I am house-sitting once again in the Oakland Hills.

This time, I have Red in my charge (or vice versa).  Red is an Australian Shepherd with herding instincts that he has honed to include his human captives.

Sigh.

I think it is due to Red's presence and his attachment to me (!) that both cats are being MUCH more sociable with me.  One is getting very chummy and the other has progressed beyond running away at first sight of me (she tolerates me in order to receive "treats").

I'll have you all know I'm not ready to give up that hour tonight.  No sirree, not yet.  It's just too damn soon.  That has always been a springtime ritual.  Just like the other change was always a fall ritual.  But they've changed it, and now, at least here in the northeast, they're both a winter pain in the ass.

I hate change when it comes to "rituals".

Sometimes I hate change when it doesn't come to "rituals".

When I was looking for a leading man for ROBERTA, I contacted Damon Kirsche, who had been in McGlinn's concerts of VERY WARM FOR MAY at Carnegie Rectal Hall, as I recall.  I was ready to cast him but he was committed to something elsewhere; maybe Oklahoma or Kansas City?

I hate that my tolerance is soooo low.  It tasted yummy but I had to stop drinking it.

I thought of decorating my booth with records but could not bear the idea of my dear LPS being possibly damaged

so next week is our chili contest at church

Do you make corn bread to go with it?  That recipe I tried a while back was delicious, and a bit hit.

I just bought a bunch of cheap LPS and  45's and I am finding pictures of Beatles record labels online - printing them and I shall cut those out and glue them to the records I have

I am pondering, as I clean out kitten drawers, why there are so many containers that are missing lids, yet I have many lids that need containers.

I think that's Gibbs' Rule #86.5  (little known, but there it is).

I'll head over to the theater in about twenty-five minutes.  I'll clean up the little stuff I need to, then I'll decide if I'm staying or not.

Back.  Not exactly a full house, which for some reason surprised me, and they were an all too quiet audience.  But as far as I could tell, the show was good.

Got a manatee matinee tomorrow, then nothing till Thursday.

We have tried to trick ourselves into thinking it is an hour later.  So far it isn't working.  I liked the movie.

Topic of the Day (in chronological order):

Show People (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0019379/reference) (1928...this was just on TCM not too long ago)
Sunset Blvd. (1950)
Singing in the Rain (1952)
A Star Is Born (1954)
Silent Movie (1976)
S.O.B. (1981)
Postcards from the Edge (1990)
Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008)
The Artist (2011)

 :)

Well, my crappy memory rears its ugly head yet again.  "Show People" wasn't on TCM.  I saw it at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts with live organ music.  How could I forget that??

Almost the same list as DR George

Sunset Blvd. (1950)
Singing in the Rain (1952)
A Star Is Born (1954)
Silent Movie (1976)
S.O.B. (1981)
Postcards from the Edge (1990)
The Artist (2011)

and because it is just sooooooooooo bad

The Oscar with Tony Bennett as Hymie Kelly.

And who could forget

The First Nudie Musical

Who?  Me, obviously. :P "TFNM" should be on my list, too!

I'm really going to miss that hour tonight.  I am going to see "The Miracle Worker" in Tacoma, and the show starts at 2:00 pm, which really means that it starts at 1:00 pm.  It wouldn't be any problem if I didn't buy a ticket for the matinee, but I did.  Oh, well.  It'll be a great show. :)

Last night I went to see "American Showstoppers: an Evening of Irving Berlin" with Fred Barton and his Orchestra.  The singers were all terrific.  They included Karen Murphy, Lee Roy Reams, Karen Ziemba, Damon Kirsche, David Elder, Natasha Yvette Williams and, oh yeah, Brent Barrett.

That sounds like a wonderful concert!  I wish things like this were recorded...preferably legitimately. ;)

Tonight, I saw a two-person play called "Sunset Limited."  It's about two men, one named Black and one named White (played by a black man and a white man, respectively) and Black prevented White from committing suicide by jumping in front of a train, the Sunset Limited.  The show was about two hours long with an intermission and they talking about life and death, religion, atheism, some pretty deep stuff.

It was well done, although Black seemed to have a little trouble during the second act.  They first performed the show last weekend in Tacoma, where the theater company is based.  This weekend, they performed at The Midnight Sun.  The house was about two thirds full and everyone seemed to enjoy the show.

Have a good day, all.

In honor of their first U.S. album, you could call your booth:

or
