Last night, I went to a Theater Artists Olympia board meeting and things were discussed and decisions were made.  It was short and sweet.  After that, I went to rehearsal for "Laughing Stock."  We got through a couple of the longer scenes a couple of times each and it all went quite well.

Post by: George on March 11, 2015, 01:57:44 AM
After rehearsal, about 10 or so of us went to a local bar/restaurant and just hung out and chatted and laughed and drank.  I had BK's favorite, diet Coke.  Stories were told and dirt was dished...I certainly learned a few things that I did NOT know. ;)

I came home and watched last night's "Cougar Town."  I really like that show and will miss it when it's gone.  This is the last season.

Tonight, we have rehearsal again, then I'm done until either Saturday (rehearsal at all on Saturday is TBD) or Monday...hopefully, Monday.  It would be nice to have the extra days to continue to work on memorizing my lines.  It's getting there, but slowly.

DR Singdaw, sorry about yesterday's disappointing news - hang in there!

Indeed.  Because the next one will be yours.  Or the one after that.  :)

And then that castle will be yours and the rest of us will have a place to vacation and par-tay.

What the HELL am I going on about?!

Today's pleasures include not only some music study, but...

(wait for it)

Cleaning out the garage!  Well, part of it.  Getting all the crap in there organized, for starters.  And preparing a full trash can of recyclables to go out this week.  But this is our warmest day of the week (low to mid 50s - can you believe it?), so I anticipate it being a pleasant task.

Good morning, all!  I have a free day, so I slept late and I have hopefully worked this damned time change malaise out of my system.

DR SINGDAW it has been my experience with State positions, that by law the job MUST be posted even if there is someone already in the department who is interested in it....and they go through the motions of interviewing, etc., when the position is practically filled.

Not EVERY position is this way - so keep trying.....  And keep watching that job, the person might not work out....it might be reposted within the next 3 or 4 months or sooner.

DR vixmom, I haven't thought about that BBC series in years. Thee was even a nice coffee table book about the series, which I have somewhere on a shelf.  The works are cut to a length of 90(?) minutes so snippets atr made in he music, but I thought they were a great intro to G&S.

I do have several caveats:
  1.  some of the "star casting" is pathetic
  2.  a lot of the singers in the leads were cast for voice and no for looks

Damn! Damn! Damn!

On March 3, just before the last threat of a huge snow, I posted my Medicare check, due on March 7. Some months that damned check clears within three days.  It is now March 11, and there's no sign of it.  All I do not need is my insurance cancelled and this really pisses me off.

I liked both NIGHTCRAWLER and WHIPLASH

I do agree that the final drumming sequence went on too long, and that the ending was a bit unclear.

Yesterday, since it was available for streaming via UVerse, I watched TWO RODE TOGETHER with Jimmy Stewart and Richard Widmark.

I recall seeing it when it was first released in 1961 and, frankly, I wasn't too impressed back then.

Watching it again, I felt that the movie had a terrific basic story, but I couldn't help thinking how much better it could have been if it hadn't been directed by John Ford.

Are those fighting words?

Johnny Depp IS Dumbo!!

I read this item abut a "Dumbo" live action and thought, how the fat hell will those elephants like being in flying harnesses?  Another dumbo Disney concept, I suspect.

DR John G, I'm sorry about the insurance.  Sell that second edition!  And that is great news.

Back from a patty melt and no fries or onion rings.  Have done some work on the ALS benefit, written the first half of a new monologue and put the song together that follows it - the first part of which is new, and the second part of which is the old tune and lyric I'd written along with the new verse and finish.  When I'm done with this section I'll be about forty pages into what will end up being a sixty page script.  That may seem short, but you have to factor in the songs, which will all average out to a bit over three minutes per and there are currently twelve of them.  Right now, the show is meant to play in one act at about eighty minutes.

I'm now to my rehearsal.  We are going to rehearse my two mini-big scenes.  The first of these scenes has me reading part of the will of the benefactor of the Playhouse's property...there's a catch and it's written into the will! :o

Thanks for the vibes.  I'm getting better now.  I'm not very good at being sick. I keep thinking, "Ok, I'm ready for this to be done now" and start doing something and then realize...."Oh, wait, maybe I'm not well yet"  Very frustrating.  I don't get sick very often, and can't remember the last time I was this sick. I missed three days of work. That's a lot for me.

If you had come here the first day you were sick, we could have given you enough vibes that you would be totally well by now!

I did enjoy Robert Irvine Live.  The challenges etc were a bit silly but the pre show stuff was great and he is really an incredible person.  He did stay after the show and posed for photos or autographs with anyone who wanted one. Which was really cool, especially for those who didn't want to or couldn't do the meet and greet but really wanted to meet him

I must be totally out of the loop.  I have no idea who Robert Irvine is.

T.O.D.

When a musical is being written, is the Oveture written at the same time?  Or does it change based on what songs the audiences like the most?

I just got an e-mail from the ADT Authization Compny.  It is a very long message and it is written in all Japanese characters.  I hope it isn't for me.

Hello, late to this discussion.  Baby doll nighties, sadly I don't think you can find them anymore.
Hope everyone here in HHW land is well.
