Well, you've read the notes, the notes waxed and waned, and now it is time for you to post until the waxing and waning cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SPONDULICKS!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, all.
Coffee!
-
Ah, hamburgers. One of my favorite things. I shall have to respond when more fully awake.
-
Perhaps I will have one today in honor of the TOD.
Unfortunately, it can't be one of my favorites, as none of those exist in these here parts. But it will be decent.
-
No, I take that back! One does indeed exist nearby. Not only that, but I was just thinking recently how I am overdue for it.
-
It's not more than five minutes outside my usual sphere of travel, but I just don't think of it as often as I should.
-
Okay, back later. Thursday vibes to all!
-
Good Morning. Since DR Laura has jury duty gain, I'll get to see her again at lunch.
-
TOD:
There used to be a drive-in in Seattle called BurgerMaster. I don't know if it still exists, since it's been many decades since I've been there. It was located out beyond the UW.
They had the greatest hamburgers; messy as hell, but they tasted terrific.
-
We watched THE LAST OF ROBIN HOOD last night.
It was okay; not terrific. The 3 leading performers were superb, particularly Kevin Kline as Errol Flynn. I'd love it if he would do my Errol Flynn one-person play.
My problem with the movie was the script. A lot of the dialogue was bad and the story really had no focus. Not sure if it was about Beverly Aadland (Dakota Fanning) or her mother (Susan Sarandon).
-
In honor of today's notes:

And she of course played Betty Monroe Hapschatt in SHOCK TREATMENT!

-
Just dropping in to say I'm sorry for being so E&T lately.
-
Good morning, all.
Have I said how much I hate Daylight Savings Time? I just can't get moving in the mornings these days.
-
Thursday morning greetings! AAUW Middletown's 59th annual used book sale opens at 5pm today - whee!
-
TOD:
When I first moved to Los Angeles, I worked in downtown L.A. for about a year (and never again, thank goodness). In an alley near our office building, there was a food truck that only made hamburgers which were very good.
The burger places that are near are home now are Five Guys Burgers and Fries and also Freddie's Steakburgers. They're both good, but we like Freddie's a little better. It's nice the way the burgers hang out over the bun and they're not perfectly round, they're sort of sloppy-shaped. Anyway, what's annoying about Five Guys is that they don't serve shakes at all, which is odd for a burger place. I once asked them if they get a lot of requests for shakes and they said they do, and also requests for ranch dressing that they don't have. Freddie's not only has shakes, but they have "custard" which is really ice cream with all sorts of fun toppings, which they'll make into a sundae or mix it in, known as a "concrete".
The burger I recently had at The Boneyard was also very good.
-
Good to see both Amy and Lechienfou posting.
-
George, this is for you:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUDUIRTpnmY#t=76
The great David Carroll singing Anthem in Chess. I get goosebumps every time I hear him sing this. And after hearing Josh Groban perform the same song, I realize that the reason is the singer.
-
DR GEORGE's monologs in LAUGHING STOCK are hilarious! I am sure he will be an audience favorite in this show!
-
My favorite hamburger used to be the Brawny Lad from Frisch's Big Boy....1/4 lb. of beef, onion slice, rye bun....with cheese.
Right now I like the BK Double Cheese Burger at Burger King......have it your way.
-
Love burgers. Love, love, love burgers.
I had readers who used to claim that I spent too much time waxing rhapsodic about better burger joints. But, say, what you will, burgers are as Texas as enchilada plates, breakfast tacos or chicken-fried steak. They are a food people hold dear.
My favorite is usually the one in front of me. I don't need too much on a burger, though I did have one earlier this year with an Irish big breakfast on top of the beef patty: a banger, fried egg, blood sausage, broiled tomato, rasher of bacon and cheese. Everything but the baked beans.
Here in San Antonio, we have the bean burger. It's refried beans smeared over the patty with melted cheese and Fritos. Some have taken to adding jalapeno slices or salsa on top, which I think brings a freshness and brightness to each bite.
I love a chargrilled burger most of all, and there's a place in town, Big Bob's, that does the best. Plus, his beer-battered onion rings with a little caraway seed rule. He has a regular 50/50 burger that's half bacon and half ground beef. On special occasions, his math gets the better of him and he does a 50/50/50 burger, which is half bacon, half ground beef and half smoked brisket, if you just accept his math.
For a chain burger, I'll generally stick with another local favorite, Whataburger, because it's chargrilled, too, and the bun tastes fresh.

Okay here I am in 1970 at age 20....in the back row with out of control hair and glasses. Also in the back row from left cousin Stan, my brother Mike, and my cousin Steve....who was the Indian Mascot at the Indian Creek High School Basketball games around this time.
In front, two of Stan's boys, my three brothers Kent, David, Dane (in glasses), and a little boy I don't remember.
Scott....the first little boy on the left in the front row....a few months after this picture....was waiting for the school bus. His homework fell out of his notebook and he ran into the street to get it and was killed by a passing car.

I'll admit I'm not a big cheeseburger fan. I find the chemical aftertaste of American cheese food to be rather repulsive. And that ruined me for Swiss or other cheeses on top.
I fall in to the late James Beard's category of preferring the cheese to be stuffed inside the patty, so that it sort of melts into the meat or at least provides this gooey center when you bite into it. There's one place in SA that features this style of burger. Timbo's calls it a Yellow Submarine.
I want one. Now.
-
What a sad story, JRand. Must have been a shock when it happened.
-
Ou est Monsiuer Elmore?
-
Why are we still on page one?
-
Will somebody come do my work for me today?
-
I want to play in the sun.
-
Let's move on.
-
Two!
-
Good morning, all! I slept late. Very late. I would have stayed in bed all day, but I am not that depressed.
I'll be back when I'm feeling more chipper.
-
Yes it was a shock and very sad DR JOHN G.
The newspapers reported that the kids had been pushing each other into the street as a sort of game.....but NONE of kids told their parents that.....it's kind of a mystery, but I believe it happened the way his brother said....
-
Terry Pratchett has died. I never read his books. I don't read a lot of fantasy, but I followed his fight against early onset Alzheimer's disease, which he called an "embuggerance." What a great word. It's like something the Sherman Brothers would've coined.
-
I'm up, I'm up - fourth day of nine hours of sleep.
-
From DR John:
The man who has the desk next to me at work has this posted in his area. I love it.
;D :)
-
From DR Vixmom:
Jane , these are some of my Chili contest decorations
Those look fantastic!!! I can't tell that you made the labels.
-
Again from Vixmom:
and a guy was selling these on Craig's List for $20 for the lot
Those are cute, and a great find for $20. You had better win this :)
-
DR TCB I am very happy for your kind friend Diane. Does she know about making sure a cat doesn't escape?
-
DR lechienfou you found an excellent pic of a baby doll nightie.
-
DR GEORGE's monologs in LAUGHING STOCK are hilarious! I am sure he will be an audience favorite in this show!
If I get them all memorized. ::)
;)
-
BK wrote in his notes that "Both films were a complete waste of time," but that he "recommend them highly."
That doesn't quite make sense...to me, at least.
-

Thanks, John G. I totally agree. I like Josh Groban, but to me he has one sound...he doesn't seem able to "act" with his voice, just sound pretty.

Great picture, Jrand, but that's terrible about what happened to Scott. :(
-
I've been to our local Miami campus, drumming up business for the book sale. In a little while, Richard and I will go to the venue to help with some last-minute set-up before the 5pm opening.
-
Well, back to Maraczek's tonight! Three to go.

I agree, on both counts...
-
Well, back to Maraczek's tonight! Three to go.
What do the audiences think of the show?
-
As far as I can tell, they're liking it a lot. I learned via a couple of friends who attended last week that I REALLY don't have the slightest idea what the production is looking like. We're, like, right on top of it, and I can't see the MD's monitor. I'm hoping they'll be willing to share a video later.

Ditto!
-
DR VIXMOM's display is most excellent.
Yes, I agree with DR JANE....those figures were quite a bargain at $20. On EBAY they sell for between $18-$49 each and UP!
-
DR TCB, Robert Irvine is a chef on Food TV. His shows are Dinner Impossible and Restaurant Impossible. on RI he goes in and tries to save failing restaurants and gives them a 10,000 makeover. He has an 84% success rate for the restaurants he helps. They get 2000 requests a week to help restaurants. Pretty amazing. They Obviously don't do that many.
-
Page two, eh? Well.
-
He has been on some of the other food competition shows but said after he thought Anne Burrell's contestant on Worst Cooks cheated against his contestant by using a premixed tempura batter instead of making one, he doesn't do competitions shows any more. Who knows.
-
One of our lowest posting days yesterday. Page two as of three my time and six east coast time.
-
I went to work for most of today. I do pretty well the day, but I'm up at least once an hour all night coughing. Just want to get some sleep
-
I've never slept in my recliner, but I may try tonight
-
Well let's get to page three then
-
close
-
Ta Da
-
It's 78 degrees here right now. Nice
-
But its windy. We have a fire warning. I have the windows open, but it's pretty dusty, so I think I'll close them

A show like this, or this one, was planning to save a local restaurant. We don't know if the show was ever filmed, the restaurant however is now closed.
-
I've never slept in my recliner, but I may try tonight
The only way I can ever get rid of bronchitis is by sleeping sitting up. The recliner is worth a try.
-
FEEL MUCH BETTER VIBES FOR DR CILLA!
-
Impressive, a 95 year old woman just joined our local Y. She looks very alert and healthy too :)
-
DR TCB I am very happy for your kind friend Diane. Does she know about making sure a cat doesn't escape?
Trust me, she knows the meaning of indoor-only kitties.

I forgot to ask yesterday, but BK, will there be another seson of OUTSIDE THE BOX? And if so, when?
-
Good evening!
-
I am abstaining from the TOD since I'm a vegetarian.
-
Post 72!
-
Robert Redford to receive Chaplin Award from the Film Society of Lincoln Center, His co-star from The Way We Were to present it to him.
-
I am abstaining from the TOD since I'm a vegetarian.
How about veggie burgers?
-
Some of my friends are going. Not sure if I will.
-
I am abstaining from the TOD since I'm a vegetarian.

I never really have them, TCB. I'm afraid the restaurant will cook them on the grill right after cooking a regular burger!
-
I pretty much like about any burger or cheese burger, but not the fancy once. Lettuce, tomato, onion and bacon are ok, but the other "creative" toppings are a bit much for me.
-
Fast food/....I like Culver's butter burgers with cheese
-
Temps in the 50's and 60's the next few days. What a difference a week makes!
-
The cherry blossoms should be blooming in a few weeks.
-
T.O.D.
I must confess that the hamburger I had recently at the restaurant in Bass Pro Shop was pretty damn good.
Having grown up in Tacoma, I have to include the burgers at Frisco Freeze, although they are an acquired taste apparently. You either love them or you don't understand the fuss. One of our state's former governors instructed his chauffeur to always pull off the freeway and head to Frisco Freeze any time the governor passed thru Tacoma. However, I know for a fact, that the governor's limo was not the only limo that ever pulled into Frisco Freeze.
-
Some of my friends are going. Not sure if I will.
If you don't show up, you better expect a phone call from Barbra asking what is wrong.
-

No burgers topped with truffles?

You really are strict. I never thought about that and I don't plan on asking, however, now that you have put the thought into my head.... :P

It's a burger on a buttered toasted bun

I agree.

Page 4!
-
and it wasn't a stupid question, I used to wonder about that too
-
I've never slept in my recliner, but I may try tonight
I have a co-worker who has back issues and when she has a pretty bad day (back-wise), she said that sleeping in her recliner is really comfy and helps. Granted, it's a different problem that what you have, but she likes sleeping in her recliner. At least, you might also. :)
-
Fast food/....I like Culver's butter burgers with cheese
I suppose this is a stupid question, but what is a butter burger?
Jack in the Box has a couple of new "Buttery Jacks" with "melted garlic herb butter." They're not bad, but not worth the price...almost $5 each.
-
There's no butter on the burger, just on the toasted bun
-
I keep reading instructions and looking on my Canon printer/copier/scanner, but I cannot figure out how to scan ONLY the area of a photograph and not include a scan of the entire scanner bed.
Instructions keep saying to find a PREVIEW function.....but I can't find it on my screen......grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
-
There's no butter on the burger, just on the toasted bun
The JitB burgers also have butter on the bun, but if they're freshly made and very hot, the butter melts and gets everywhere, including on the burger and my hands and the cardboard container that they're served in.

Kevin, it's so nice of Lois Chiles to come out of retirement to give Redford the award ;)

LOL That is ok. I find it a treat to have a good vegie burger and will still order them, when they can be found. Too many places just have frozen Boca Burgers-yuck.

Good evening to all
-
Spent five hours at car dealership and my phone battery died on me.
-
Hard to say what was the best hamburger I ever had is. I guess it would have to be what goes on it that makes it special
-
I forgot to ask yesterday, but BK, will there be another seson of OUTSIDE THE BOX? And if so, when?
That would be great!
-
Bruce knows what restaurant I considered as having the best hamburgers ever.
-
I think I am going to have to go the lawyer route with my knee problems
-

BK, is there any possibility of putting the "Outside the Box" series on DVD? Or does this kind of web series prevent that from happening?
-
I think I am going to have to go the lawyer route with my knee problems
I'm sorry :(
Mega Vibes!!!!
-
Vibes for DR MIKE.
-
I love Lois Chiles.
-
They are much better for cooking than Green Chiles.
-
"When I cook my dogs, I always use Lois Chiles." Rachael Ray, TV Cook, Author, Stylist, Broadcaster, and All Around Real Person.

It was nice having a quick lunch with Kerry today. However, it is our last one, as I did not get chosen for the jury.

Too bad DR LAURA. I hope you will drive into town on April 13 for the Jodi Arias sentencing.
-
There is a big case going on now that was supposed to take two weeks to choose the jury. I was afraid I would get sent up to that one. So that's a relief.

I keep promising to ketchup

which would go well with hamburgers
-
Maybe not until Sunday
-
Well, it's time for me to leave work and go home. I have a bit of TV watching to do, and I also want to work on my lines, which I really need to do.
Be back later.
-
Waiting for butter to reach room temperature. It's fun, I tell you.
-
Love Culver's burgers -- except for the one Culver's in San Antonio. For some reason, the staff just doesn't get it. Nothing tastes like it does at the Culver's I've eat at elsewhere.
-
Back. Tonight's house was about three-quarters bought out by some local Knights of Columbus, who catered themselves a li'l par-tay in the lobby and were feeling no pain by the time the downbeat was given. They had a great time, and we ended up putting on a pretty good shew.
-
The cast and audiences keep telling us how great the "orchestra" sounds. Sadly, they have no idea. Not only is this the orchestration from Hell (or one of them), but we are six little people who cannot possibly do the show justice. Our "ensemble" is finally as tight as it should be, but we make no other claims.

BUTTER BURGERS
I've never had one, but a Wisconsin butter burger is a thing unto itself. Cable TV shows like "Diners, Dives, Drive-ins" or whatever the name is will always eventually get to Milwaukee to cover the original butter burger at:
http://www.sollysgrille.com/
-
Some of the butter burger footage I've seen looks gag-worthy, and there ain't no bigger proponent of burgers, or butter, than Yrs Truly. But when the burger, the plate, and your hands are swimming in it...
-
I'm not used to having a show (except a first week brush-up) on Thursday nights, so this feels like a Friday night to me.
-
But that's how they roll at this theater. Thursday night shows. Which is all right with me. Hey, I can adapt. Just watch me!
-
I have never had a butter burger. But since I just had my annual blood draw, I suppose this would be the time to do it!
-
Yes! Check into those flights to Milwaukee!
-
Sheesh, where is everybody?
Seriously, you'd think it was 1:44 in the morning or something.
-
The new Outside the Box season has been ready to go for a year and a half now - and every time I think about finally doing it, there's just too much else going on. But I will get to it. The plan has always been to put the first two seasons on Blu-ray - but we have a lot of work to do with bloopers, cut footage and other stuff.
-
Finished with my viewing - four episodes of House of Cards' new season. The gal from The Heart Machine finally appeared in episode four and I of course remembered her immediately - the lesbian friend of the girl on the lam from season two.
