Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of quince and chintz, and now it is time for you to post until the chintz cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DYSPHEMISM!
-
First after BK!
It is way too early to be up.
-
good morning to all
-
feel better quicker vixmom
-
DR lechienfou mentioned baby dolls the other day.
Here's one that would make her swear off them.

Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, good day,
How are you this beautiful morning?
Isn't this a beautiful morning?
We're stylish...
Okay, enough of that. Enough, I tell you.
Coffee!

TOD:
House of Pies, now and forever. Raisin, banana cream, peanut butter, custard, the old standbys like apple, cherry, all the other berries... and many, many more.
The cherry pie (what else?) at The Cherry Hut in Beulah, Michigan, capitol region of the greatest cherries and cherry pies.
The strawberry pie at The Brown Derby in Cleveland Heights (no relation to that other Brown Derby), may it rest in peace.
Apple pie with melted cheddar, rum raisin sauce, and vanilla ice cream at the Hamburger Hamlet.
I know I'm forgetting one or two.
-

NEW RULE: No selfies on haineshisway.com. :D

Today I prepare the Music Room for the return of the large keyboard and all, and I must decide on something to take for the closing night potluck par-tay.
-
I so wish I could see INSIDE OUT.
Did I already ask BK if there might be some video at some point?
Probably, since that is my wont. And I am a person of many wonts. But here's another vote, if we may vote twice.
-
More coffee!
-
And enough from me for a while. I must get some kind of a start on my day.
-
I like pie.
-
LOL DR VIXMOM - thanks, but I am not convinced. And Kevin Spacey is not quite as great as he thinks he is.
-
I am hoping I receive a call this morning telling me to come and get my repaired automobile.
It has been at the shop since Thursday at 1 p.m. The shop closes at noon today, so I if I don't get it before then.....it won't be ready until Monday.
I have tickets for a show tonight DEAD IN DENMARK - Zombie Hamlet.....it would be nice to have transportation to get there.
-
Good morning, all! It's a rainy, gray day in Manhattan, and I want to go back to bed. For a long time. The weather matches my current mood.
I have one final bit of work for Paint Your Wagon to do this weekend, and I'll turn that in on Monday for the band to read down at the 12:30 rehearsal.
-
DR Ron Pulliam, I did not mean to sound flippant about Keith Carradine last night. There would be no reason, unless someone asked him, why he would bring up his brother's accident. He was having a great time listening to everything and I think he just loved hearing the orchestra play. He's got a show to open this week, and he was very gracious.
-
I like pie.
Me, too, particularly apple and pecan. My dad's favorite was banana cream pie.

Happy Pi Day!
My favorite would anything with fruit, especially cherry, but over the years I've also made hundreds of chocolate-pecan pies, which are served in Louisville on Derby Day. They were my go-to Christmas gift for years, and I could make three at a time.
Here's a recipe, plus recipes for 10 more favs.

Off to the Hill Country for a book signing at one of the wineries up there. Looking forward to a few hours out of town. Hope we sell a few books. Somehow books don't seem as attractive as bottles of wine when you're at a winery.
-
Loving the Stormy Weather soundtrack!
-
Pie-- always rhubarb. And Marie Callender's was one of the best. So, since Marie Callender left the state of Arizona, I try to get people coming from other western states to bring a pie with them when they come to town (or come back to town). It has only worked once so far.
-
Monday case resolved vibes for DR Cilla!
-
From Cilla:
I discovered that a recorded message when you are sick and sound sick adds lots of patience to the people who leave messages for you.
;D
Continued healing vibes!!
-
Best pie ever, my mother's Danish Apple Pie. The topping is a mix of cheese, flour, margarine or butter, & sugar. It is a crumbly mixture that is patted onto the apples before baking.
The best ever, was when I baked it with fresh cheese from the dairy farm down the road, with fresh picked Cortland apples sold on the road near the dairy farm, and then baked in our antique wood burning stove that came with our Pennsylvania home.
-
I like a good lemon meringue pie. I haven't made one in years. I'm always pleased with my meringue recipe but continue the search for a better filling recipe.
-
I'm partial to marionberry pies.
-
Banana Cream Pies are nice.
Rhubarb Pies are nice.
Lemon Cream Pies are nice.
-
When we were first married we became great friends with two other couples that lived in our apartment building. Often, on summer evenings, we would pick up a Strawberry Glazed pie from Marie Callender's. The pies were delicious and the evenings fun.
-
Stormy Weather has arrived!
Both inside and outdoors. Fortunately, the outdoor one is a deluge and not snow. Rain, I can take. I just hope it's being kind to vixmom.
-
As a kid, I loved my grandmother's rhubarb pie. I don't think I've had any since then. No, maybe a couple of times, but it was always strawberry-rhubarb. (Maybe hers was, too, I have no idea now.)
-
May the indoor stormy weather leave quickly.
-
I've had a few good strawberry-rhubarb pies. My first was in PA which also brings back memories of delicious shoo-fly pies. I would purchase little pies from the Amish at a flee market. They were very sweet and I could not eat a full pie at one sitting.
-
May the indoor stormy weather leave quickly.
Oh no! The indoor stormy weather is nicely contained on two CDs. We wouldn't want that to leave!
-
I really like House of Cards. But i'll have to wait until my library gets the dvd. Hopefully it won't be too long until it comes out on dvd (the newest season).
-
BK, this soundtrack CD sounds like a million dollars.
-
I'm up, I'm up. I didn't get to sleep until three, and the phone rang twice at ten and that was that - same person calling and obviously a wrong number. Seven hours of sleep, I guess, and kind of a fun dream. I stayed in bed for a while, then finally got up.
-
Good afternoon!
-
It's a rain, but mild day in the nation's capital area.
-
Saskatoonberry pie!!!
-
Hot apple pie with vanillaicecream and caramel sauce
-
Been spending the day getting ready for the chili contest
-
Vixdad thinks the chili is too sweet and not enough heat
-
The Vixter thinks the chili is great
-
But a little too much heat
-
I think it's ok
-
But probably not a winner
-
I'll take pictures
-
From what you've told us of their eating preferences and peculiarities, I'd venture a guess that neither is fit to judge! :D
-
Saturday afternoon greetings! Fun day at the book sale - the AAUW state president came from northwest Ohio to work this morning. She met many of our local members and 3 of us took her out to lunch. I am exhausted.
-
Well, another hour or so and I must be shuffling off to play the last several "Thank You, Madam"s.
-
My car was not returned today.....so I have no transportation to the play.....others don't seem to be inclined to loan a vehicle for such an excursion....so no play.
-
DR JRand64, that's terrible no one will lend you a vehicle.
-
I've finished the last Paint Your Wagon cue: 19 orchestra parts copied and ready to be handed to Joshie, who will duplicate them and make extra copies of the string parts.
As I worked, I listened to excerpts from Les Pecheurs des perles and Der Rosenkavalier and Kurt Weill's Threepenny Opera and Knickerbocker Holiday.
-
Now I will chill and watch a bit of TV.
Maybe think about dinner.
-

I'm sorry you have to miss the play. Is there any chance someone might drop you off and you take a taxi home, or the other way around?
-
Hmmm, I dozed off...
-
OMG, DR Elmore, you can work on music while listening to other music?
-
Greetings from Maraczek's!
-
Good afternoon. Last night was really strange. I slept a little then woke then slept then woke as I have been, I got up around 8, gave Callie her meds, decided to take a musinex as I should have before bed and a dose of cough syrup. I laid down and didn't really wake up completely until 1:30 PM. I don't think I've slept that late since I was in college and definitely not when I'd gone to bed before midnight
-
So I've been resting and coughing today. I can tell I'm on the mend, but sheesh this is as bad as they told me it would be.
-
I do have a corned beef simmering on the stove and will soon add potatoes, carrots and then later cabbage. I like a boiled New England dinner better than just corned beef and cabbage
-
I like pie. I'll go get one after I eat dinner.
-
I really want to see The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, but am going to stay home. I'm also missing a friend's art show and seeing a band some friends play in, but home is where I should be right now
-
DR JRand. Sorry you're going to miss your play
-
I just realized I don't have any butter, better go get some, I don't like boiled potatoes without butter
-
OMG, DR Elmore, you can work on music while listening to other music?
I was just copying orchestra parts from a full score.
But, yes, I can.
-
I like pie. I'll go get one after I eat dinner.
As soon as I have some money, I'm hitting the Little Pie Company for a Classic Apple. Or pecan.
Or both.
-
I really want to see The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, but am going to stay home. I'm also missing a friend's art show and seeing a band some friends play in, but home is where I should be right now
Yes, staying home is what you need to do.
-
I like pie. I'll go get one after I eat dinner.

Or both.
I'm not really a fan of classic apple, or pecan. Keith loves pecan pie. I looked at their website and the apple pear pie looks tasty. Do they sell slices at the bakery?
-
I like pie.
Me, too, particularly apple and pecan. My dad's favorite was banana cream pie.
My dad's favorite is apple. I love banana cream pie and coconut cream pie and pecan pie and cherry pie and blueberry pie and pumpkin pie and and Boston Cream pie...not necessarily in that order. ;)
I've never been a fan of strawberry-rhubarb pie.
-

Both...definitely both.

We just returned from seeing the tour of Cinderella. Lots of fun. A whole new story, though.

I never received one for Christmas.
-
T.O.D.
I am fond of almost every flavor of pie. With one exception! Apple pie. I do not like apple pie at all. When I was a kid, my friends said I was un-American because I hated apple pie, i didn't care for hot dogs, and watching baseball was a total bore. Now days, I love watching my Seattle Mariners, I enjoy a good hot dog (Costco), but I still don't like apple pie.
My favorite pie was my mom's pumpkion pie or her blackberry pie.
-
I really want to see The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, but am going to stay home. I'm also missing a friend's art show and seeing a band some friends play in, but home is where I should be right now
Yes, staying home is what you need to do.
I try my best, but there isn't anyone to go to the store for me or do that sort of thing, I'm sure I looked like a Zombie on Monday at the pharmacy in my sweat pants, sweat shirt and bedroom slippers...lol
-
I have never had rhubarb pie. It never looked good to me.
Try Strawberry Rhubarb. The sweet of the strawberry balances the sour of the rhubarb
-
I have a pumpkin pie cooling in the kitchen
-
Vixdad thinks the chili is too sweet and not enough heat
-
They didn't have any fresh pies at the store I went to, so I got a frozen one and baked it.
-
Been spending the day getting ready for the chili contest
I know someone who always put a Hershey bar in his chili instead of sugar
-

I realize you need to go for some things, though to me pie and butter would not be items to go out for-lol Dressing warm and comfortable is good. At least your weather has been good, cold temps really mess with bronchitis.
-
Vixdad thinks the chili is too sweet and not enough heat
Both my mom and my sister made their chili with a can of Campbell's Tomato Soup in it. I didn't really ever care for it thast much, but at least they never ruined it with brown sugar! ::) ::) ::)
-
They didn't have any fresh pies at the store I went to, so I got a frozen one and baked it.
LOL, I suspected you didn't make it from scratch but I did puzzle over that a bit.

Well I went to work for two days... Seriously, it doesn't matter what it is, there isn't anyone else to do it, so I go.

My car was not returned today.....so I have no transportation to the play.....others don't seem to be inclined to loan a vehicle for such an excursion....so no play.
You can borrow my car, but you have to come and get it.
-
I get it. It is playtime that has to be cut :(
-
It is warm here. It's still 58 degrees out right now and tomorrow the high will be near 80.
-
well as the Beatles sang
I'm a loser
I'm a loser
-
You're never a loser in my book, Vixmom....of course I didn't taste the chili :)
-
My pumpkin pie was quite good. It was a Mrs. Smith's but had a different flavor that usual. Not sure what it is, but I liked it
-

I have made pumpkin pies from scratch, from pumpkin. But I've done more apple. Not today though
-

It isn't.

Probably mixed with rhubarb!

I was trying to post some pictures right after my last post and I received an error message " Server not found at Haineshisway"

-
Although I did not win for best decorated booth or a prize for my chili; it appears that it was only the judges who were unimpressed -
Many people (including the person who won best booth) said they thought mine was better - and I was the first one to run out of chili because of the number of people who came back for seconds (and thirds) and the number who came over and said they were told they had to try mine because it was so good.
-
That's a rather zombie-looking Fab Four, Vixmom.
I like.
-
The person who won first place also won last year with the same recipe
I am afraid I didn't care for it at all it was turkey chili white beans , corn and carrots

Great photos, Vixmom.
Your description of the winning chili did not inspire me to want to try a similar version.
-
these are good friends of mine - they are not members of our church but they come every year and also really get into the spirit of the thing
I have been friends with the mom since I was 16 (and she 15) and friends with her husband ( whom I introduced to her) since I was 18 . The young man in white pointing at his girlfriend and the young man in black are twins - one is 6' 6" the other 5'8"

As you can see, I have firmly instilled the motto "Safety first" into the Vixter's psyche
-
Great photos, Vixmom.

Quite frankly he had a lot left over so I don't think it was a particularly popular choice - but we had three judges , 2 of whom were the same judges last year so they are just fans of turkey chili I guess - the brisket based chili was really really good
-

i would like to say yes but the truth is they were bought at Waldbaum's supermarket

Brisket chili sounds very good.

I don't suppose you got the recipe?

And thank you for the suggestion to use beef broth instead of sherry.

Yes. Exactly. That's what I'm talkin' about.
-
And though I just got here, I must be off to get six hours of sleep before I drive back down to pack up and bring home my keyboard. It has to be done early so they can tear down the set -- which just happens to start with the "pit".
-
There was just no way it was happening tonight.
-
Well, I must be off. I'm ushering for Masterworks Choral Ensemble's annual Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival (http://wcpa.squarespace.com/upcoming-events/2015/3/14/masterworks-choral-ensemble-harmony-sweepstakes-a-cappella-f.html). It always has some wonderful performers. It's essentially "The Sing-Off" but it's live and has been around longer. This is one event that I look forward to every year.
Have a good rest of the day, all!
Well, I'm home. And it was a good contest. There were fewer groups competing than there have been in recent past years...only five groups. I remember one year when there were 10 groups!
-
They each get 10 minutes and if they go over that, they can be penalized.
-
There was a trio of women...they won third place, but they sang at least one song that they sang the last time they were here. I would've thought that they would want to sing something different, but that's me.
-
There was a girls high school group. They weren't bad, but compared to the other four groups, they were the weakest.
-
But by no means did they embarrass themselves. For a high school girls choir, they were pretty good.
-
There was also a ladies barbershop quartet. I would've given them third place. They had very tight harmonies and sang very well.
-
The second place winners was a group of five guys. They were young, personable, cute singers. I'm glad that they got second.
-
They were very much the audience favorite. They also won best arrangement. Sometimes (but not always), groups that have won both audience favorite and best arrangement have won first place, but this time it wasn't the case.

The group that won was a Christian jazz-type group, but they were overall the best singers. They had the talent and skill to be real contenders at the national level.

I'm not a religious person at all, but having sung in choirs in school, I've had to sing sacred text...Mozart and things like that. That's not a big deal. However, I've never had to sing this kind of "Christian" music. Anyway, after the whole contest was over, I was told by a friend that a couple of other friends were upset that the Christian group won because all of their songs were Jesus-y and religious. For the purposes of a contest like this, that doesn't bother me. I felt that they definitely were the best talented and skilled group.

I have never had rhubarb pie. It never looked good to me.
Try Strawberry Rhubarb. The sweet of the strawberry balances the sour of the rhubarb
Or it might not. :P

Back from a very long day and must now write some notes.

Been spending the day getting ready for the chili contest
I know someone who always put a Hershey bar in his chili instead of sugar
A friend told me the story of when he went to a barbecue and the host was tending the big vat of chili. The host was smoking a cigar while tending the vat and my friend noticed that he (the host) had accidentally flicked his ashes into the chili! He was going to say something but then he saw that the guy did it again and that it wasn't a mistake! It turns out that that was the guy's secret ingredient...cigar ash. My friend said that it was absolutely the best chili that he had ever tasted!

Interesting...I wonder why the judges wouldn't like your chili if everyone else did. :-\

Maybe the contest was fixed!!
I demand a recount! I'm going to file a PayPal dispute!! >:(

Too bad the chili contest didn't have an audience favorite.
