Title: THE POGO STICK
Post by: bk on March 20, 2015, 12:19:49 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes jumped like a Jew on a pogo stick, and now it is time for you to post until the pogo-sticking cows come home.

I'm trying to remember if I had a pogo stick as a wee young 'un or if it's a figment of my imagination.  I seem to think I did, but that's not a memory I'm willing to trust any farther than I can throw it.  Maybe my sister will remember if one or both of us had one.

The very fact of this afternoon's and evening's snow is a depressing and discouraging one for everyone around here.

At least I have a great time in the city to look forward to, and I am grateful for that.

I need to take a book to read on the train.  I'm not in the middle of anything, so I wonder what it shall be.  I've certainly got plenty to choose from.

I have no idea what I will watch this weekend.

Last night, I watched PANIC IN THE STREETS, one of the great thrillers, and the night before I viewed THE RED VIOLIN, which I also enjoyed.

I'm tempted to watch my Criterion copy of HEAVEN'S GATE, but I'm not sure I want to make a 4+ hour commitment.

I did not have a pogo stick when I was a kid.  I don't remember very many kids in our neighborhood having them.  We may have just missed the fad by a couple of years.

Good morning, all!  It's a strange day for me: I do not go into Chelsea Music until 2:00 today to proofread one number for "Duck Dynasty." I like to work in the morning, come home and chill out and I hope I can stay awake, since my nap slump is usually around 3 or 4.  The only good thing is that my space of time between the work and meeting DR ChasSmith for dinner before he sees PAINT YOUR WAGON is small.  I'll probably finish up Chelsea around 5-5:30, then bus up to 57th Street.

I'll spend my time until non working here in the apartment.  I'll go to Toyland tomorrow morning, then head to City Center, watch PAINT YOUR WAGON from backstage, hang about for the talkback, then see Rob Berman's fantastic parents before I head home.

I think any show that has a chorus come out and sing "Eternal dooo--oooom" about ten times is aces!

I am in just such a show!

Here are the light man and our assistant director.....Billy the light man is also directing the Accountants musical....Miranda is a very pleasant young lady.

Bruce, it sounds like the pain in your calf that you wake up with is a muscle spasm. I get them in bed sometimes when I'm just stretching in the morning (while on my back) and pointing my toes downward too hard. I used to just massage the muscle and wait for it to pass, but then my sister told me to flex my feet - you know, point your toes upward as much as you can. I tried that the next time, and darn, it worked like a charm! The pain went away instantly. I can't wait for you to get another excruciating pain in your calf so you can try it!!  :D

And I had a call from the publisher telling me my usual guy wasn't working on this book - I lit into this guy like nobody's business - one of those people from the Philippines - and told him that before my main guy even called me to do the deal he'd already insured my guy would be with me again - with my guy everything gets done instantly and the whole process is through in a day.  I am not about to start with someone I don't know who will muck it all up and cause me weeks of distress, which is what used to happen before my guy came along eight books ago.  So, I called the main guy and left a message.

Nicky's vacation may be over before it even got started.  The half hour drive to my friend's house turned into an hour and a half drive due to the heavy rain.  Nicky cried the entire time in the car.  I was not even half way home when I get a call from my friend.  Nicky peed all over himself inside the carrier.  the room she put him already reaks of urine and will need to have the carpet cleaned.  He is still crying once in a while, but she doesn't know if he is going to continue to urinate in the house.

She is supposed to call me back at any time to tell me if I need to come pick up Nicky and take him home.

I don't think my friend knows what it is like for a cat to be put into a new environment.  New smells, new furniture, and new people.  I had a cat that hid for the first forty eight hours in my house.  I knew he was okay, because he cam out and ate his food, but that was it.

I got pretty behind at the office when I was sick.  Tonight I went in and got three applications put together and ready to express mail in the morning.  Good start, but lots more to do.

Tomorrow the library is having a lecture about a WWII prisoner of war camp in Iowa.  It wasn't too far from my home town, maybe 40 miles.  It housed 10,000 German prisoners of war.  I'm planning to go as I heard a lot about it when I was growing up but haven't really heard someone who knew what they were talking about

We had an internment camp about 20 miles from here.

Before the war and again after the war; the camp was the home of the Washington State Fair.

And now, it's time for me to leave work.  It's raining here and I left my jacket in my car.  I hope my non-water-proof watch and Kindle don't get too wet. :-\

Until later!

Do you have a plastic bag or something you can put them in?

Actually, I did.  And it wasn't raining very hard, so I didn't melt or anything. ;)

Lord love a duck, I am home.

Dinner with DR Elmore and an incredible Encores! show = a perfect evening in the city.

And all of it somehow happened in the worst kind of weather imaginable.  I don't mean tornado or hurricane type of disasters, just the most miserable wintry crap you could imagine walking around or driving in.  At the train station back home it took me fifteen minutes to get my car windows scraped off enough to begin driving.  We got the full three inches of snow predicted.  Fortunately, the roads had been plowed and I still have my snow tires on (I very nearly had them swapped out for the regular ones this past week), and our neighbor had plowed the driveway so I made it up in one attempt, and without having to get out and do any hard labor.

Lordy.

Keith Carradine and new-to-me Alexandra Socha are just incredible in PAINT YOUR WAGON.  Really, everyone is.  And there's nothing to say about the orchestra and the conducting except the same old same old.  It's perfection.

I almost feel like I got some windburn on my face, which can only be from walking many blocks through the city in the wrong direction -- i.e., against the direction of the wind and the stinging wet snow it was blowing against everyone.  If you were walking north on an avenue or east on a street, forget it.
