Well, you've read the notes, the notes were ephemeral and kept time, and now it is time for you to post until the ephemeral cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DELITESCENT!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
I thought Overdrive worked the same for everyone. I didn't realize a library could set it up to make returns impossible. What a silly way to operate. If I finish a physical book I always return it before the due date. I should be able to do that for e-books as well.
-
Good morning! One week until the end of tax season. There are good things to the incredibly busy season being almost over, but also so many things I'll miss about the busy season.
-
I recall being at summer camp at eleven or twelve years old, and they were supposed to be showing us the family movie "Lad, a Dog" but they got the prints mixed up. So all us pre-teens ended up watching "Imitation of Life" and not quite getting all the issues but seeming to enjoy it a great deal.
-
And the word of the day is: DELITESCENT!
A deli with florescent lighting?
-
And the word of the day is: DELITESCENT!
A perfume you really like?
-
I woke up an hour ago already thinking of what awaits me ;I may as well head in
-
Thanks for the vibes,George
-
Have a lovely day, everybody!
-
Problems-getting-resolved-easily vibes for vixmom.
-
good morning to all
-
from yesterday
Married To Broadway.
I thought it would make a good reality/scripted tv series. I embellished on some of the facts taken from the patter and added other to give some conflict and others so the the personalities wouldn't have a sameness. I have no no idea what channel would even buy the idea.
-
Good morning, all! Last night was a round of three crazy dreams. but this morning I only remember the one that ended when I awoke around 12:30 this morning.
The dream took place in the house on Goldman Avenue where I grew up and lived until 1979. I remember little of it now but two things, simething about the ghosts haunting it and the end, in which my mother and I stood across the street and watched the house burn up. I remember there was some amazement that the fire had not disturbed the neighbors.
-
I look forward tp seeing ON THE TOWN again tonight. The performances should be settled in by now and the orchestra should sound great.
I'll head in to City Center around 11:00am, see what work Joshie has waiting for me, then see the show with him.
-
Good morning, all.
I had a house dream, too. But not one based on a real house. In this type of house dream. it's my house that I and a bunch of people are in, but it's nothing like any place I've actually lived.
-
I get to go to the dentist this morning. Isn't that exciting?
Just trying to compete with DR Elmore's exciting day!
-
Coffee!
-
I have yet to see ON THE TOWN. Must make it a priority. Must must must.
I like saying must.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Good Morning.
-
We watched BIG EYES last night.
Good movie!
-
I've started work on a new play in THE HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS series.
Like the last two, it will have multiple characters and involve a major Hollywood scandal.
-
Better Day vibes for DR VIXMOM.
Dental vibes for DR CHAS SMITH.
Surviving the Tax Season vibes for DR FJL.
-
Sami Eviscerated the Plate is the title of a song in my new musical.
-
Is the Broadway "Something Rotten" based on the short-lived television series of the same name?
-
I enjoyed BIG EYES, too DR DRUXY.....
-
Last night at we had a "goof" rehearsal, which I have never been a part of. I don't know if it is peculiar to or to this director. I was a bit skeptical, but I must say that it was most entertaining and the cast was fun to watch.
The most creative of them came through in a BIG way. It was also a good bonding experience.....and it was very nice to see the people "outside the box" so to speak. The lines and blocking had to be exact, but interpretation in voice and movement could be anything the actor cared to try.
Interesting.
-
Is the Broadway "Something Rotten" based on the short-lived television series of the same name?
Nope, completely new and original.
-
Thanks DR BEN, there are probably not a lot of us who even remember that show.
-
DR TCB - HAWKE was a Warner Bros. movie, so I doubt that the staircase was the one used in Universal's PSYCHO.
-
It's about the first musical in Shakespeare's time (1590) and how it all comes about. There is rivalry between Will Shakespeare (a God/Rock Star in his time) and Nick and Nigel Bottom, brothers running their own theatre after touring the provinces w/Will (who has become an arrogant, pompous boob).
-
My question for ASK BK Day: have you heard any advance word on Cindy Williams' autobiography coming out May 1?
-
I thought Overdrive worked the same for everyone. I didn't realize a library could set it up to make returns impossible. What a silly way to operate. If I finish a physical book I always return it before the due date. I should be able to do that for e-books as well.
I agree that I think that you should be able to return a borrowed e-book early. Since I cannot borrow e-books from my library (they don't do kindle in Canada) I looked up if you could return library e-books early. And this is what i found. This is exactly what i do to return a borrowed e-book from amazon early.
*******************************************
Return a Library Book
To return a library book before the loan period ends, visit Manage Your Content and Devices.
Since the length of a book loan is determined by the library, check with your public library to find out when to return a borrowed book. You'll receive a courtesy reminder e-mail from Amazon three days before the book is due and another e-mail when the loan period has ended.
To return a library book:
Go to Manage Your Content and Devices.
From Your Content, select the Actions button next to the book that you want to return.
Select Return This Book, and then select Yes in the pop-up window.
-
DR TCB a number of my friends have taken a class at the library to learn how to use the Overdrive app and download free books from the library. You might inquire if your library offers those classes. It saves a lot of money on books and you can do it from home or anywhere with wifi.
I don't know why you should understand the conversation if you aren't currently using Overdrive.
-
From DR Ben:
That wasn't what I meant by my comment. I know that Overdrive works with Kindle. I'm saying that Overdrive lets you return e-pub ebook files which are different from Kindle book files. You cannot return a Kindle ebook once it's checked out but you can return an e-pub book when you've finished it. It's why I will not take a Kindle ebook if I have a choice between Kindle and e-pub.
Got it. Yes, another reason I do not like using the Kindle app. I read a popular book in several days and then it sat there for the full 21 days. I felt very bad about this.
-
From DR George:
It must be the way my library has set up their OverDrive account, because once a title is checked out no matter what format (Kindle, pdf, epub, etc.), it can't be returned. You can return a title after you hold is placed and you've been notified that it's available, but not once you've actually checked it out.
That's terrible. These books take so long to become available as it is. I thought the OverDrive app was the same everywhere, not by state. That seems odd.
I can set my books to automatically check out. Can you do this? Also I was told that the OverDrive library was for all of Oregon, though sometimes my library has extra copies or none at all. Is that the same in Washington?
-
This will all be important info for me if we move to Washington :)

I just had a thought. Maybe DR George can't do it because he doesn't turn wifi on.
-
I don't believe I can return the books from my computer. I always do it from my Nook.

When I read e-books I I only read them on my device so I don't have library books on my PC. I put them on my tablet (Android)
-
I may just be saying that since this here site is searchable.....maybe....I might.
-
LOL I didn't know you could borrow books from Amazon. I thought you had to purchase them.
-
Kindle books come from Amazon. When Anthony borrows books from the library and chooses a Kindle, he is redirected to the Amazon Web site and the book is delivered to his Kindle Fire from there.
-
I knew about that but it seemed DR Jennifer was borrowing them through Amazon and not beginning with her library.
It is much easier to borrow an e-Pub book from the library.;D

-
DR ELMORE I look forward to the ON THE TOWN report tomorrow.
-
My question for ASK BK Day: have you heard any advance word on Cindy Williams' autobiography coming out May 1?
I haven't, other than her having called me a year ago to tell me she was writing it and asking me some Nudie questions.
-
Phone rang at ten-twenty, so that was that for sleep - about seven hours thanks to some tossing and turning.
-
And I am back with a numb front of the mouth, having gotten a teeny filling on the back of a front tooth. At least I think that's where it is. Weird spot. Anyway, I'm waiting till the numbness (I almost typed numbnuts!) completely goes away before eating something. I don't trust my lower and upper teeth to keep from knocking into each other yet.
-
I got to City Center, Joshie had no work for me. So, i'm home and I'll meet him tonight at the theatre.
Nap time!
-
Looking forward to your follow-up report on the show, DR Elmore.
-
Thanks DR BEN, there are probably not a lot of us who even remember that show.
I don't.

I think it might have been called

not
Something Rotten (http://rottenbroadway.com/)
WTWR was a 1975 Mel Brooks television show about Robin Hood. Something Rotten is about Shakespeare and Theatre

LOL I didn't know you could borrow books from Amazon. I thought you had to purchase them.
You can borrow lendable e-books from someone who has purchased the e-book. They can be lent once for 14 days.
-

I can't borrow e-books from my library (as they don't lend to kindle). I borrow a lot of e-books (the lendable ones) from book friends who have bought the e-book I want. I lend them some and they lend me some.

DR BEN is 100% correct.....I didn't even remember the title correctly! No wonder it's not related.
I am trying to decide if I want to pre-order Miss Cindy's tome......

Barnes and Noble also does that though the books are rarely something I want to lend.

Originally our library only had e-Pub books and the majority still are, or with a Kindle option. Very few are only Kindle.
-
Jesus! Two days of library concerns?
-
Bruce should be happy, it adds up the posts ;)

One time, I had to get some shots to numb my teeth for some procedure and I tried to eat something while I was still numb...NOT a good idea. I kept biting the inside of my cheeks ('cause I couldn't feel anything) which made me bleed in my mouth!
:P

My sister and I used to watch that (as short a run as it was), and she even remembers the show. I may have gotten her the DVDs for her birthday one year.

Back from a fun lunch with Kay Cole and rehearsals start in thirty minutes.
-
Wednesday afternoon greetings! I was up and out of here shortly after 9am to meet my friend Becky at Michael's for a papercrafting class. Then we went to lunch and to a new cupcake/coffee place. It was a delightful day.
-
In the not-so-delightful department, I just talked to my niece Laura, who is the golf pro at Illinois State University. That community is reeling from this news:
Plane crash in Illinois (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-illinois-ncaa-plane-crash-20150408-story.html)

I have lent and borrowed a lot of e-books. and there are tons more than i want to read that are lendable.
-
Yes, DR GINNY, that is a very sad story.
-
I get in the car.
I go to the library.
I choose a book from the shelf.
I go to the desk.
I scan the book.
I scan my card.
I go home.
I read the book.

Lend or borrow and there aren't very many of them to even have the option. There were more when I first got my Nook.

One of the men on the plane was my niece's boss, she knew 3 others, and knew of the rest. I'm glad her parents are visiting her this week...

DR Jrand64 -- that could have been 13 separate posts! ;D
-
The "goof" rehearsal is something I had never heard of - it sounds inspired! What fun.
-
I think it has a time and place DR SINGDAW.....
Yes, it could have.
But that was not my point.
-
IF I had a point.
-
That is.
-
I just browsed the current "lend me" books on B&N. There were 137 and I didn't see any I've been looking to buy. There were books I have read through the library.

Well...

Well, I am a total goon! I guess I never looked into this, but I THOUGHT that Kindle e-books couldn't be returned (unless there was a change in policy at some point that I never heard about). Because of all this conversation here on HHW, I decided to speak with our library's e-book guru Liz, and she said that ALL formats can be checked in early! Although, how they're checked in is different for the different formats or the different reading devices. So, I CAN check out a library e-book for 7 days and download it through a USB cable (like I've been doing), and then instantly return it so that the title is instantly available for the next patron! And because I don't sync up my device to my account through Wi-Fi, it can stay on my device indefinitely. That's called workin' the system.
-
So thanks, Jennifer, for starting this whole conversation!
;)
-
Wow! All of a sudden, there's a flash rain and hail storm here! It's been going on for about five minutes and it's loud!
-
It's slowing down and getting quieter, now. Darn. It was pretty cool while it lasted.
-
Rehearsals went well. Had Bruce Vilanch, Devin Kelly and Timothy Omundson (from Galavant).

Actually, I did have one book checked out and it did check in, both in my Amazon account and on the library's OverDrive page. It can be checked out right now.

Good.

Hello!

I'll have to look into borrowing books on my mini ipad. If I need advice, I'll know where to come!
-
LOL Kevin.
-
DR Ginny I feel bad for your niece and all those grieving :'(
Thank you, DR Jane. I'd like to give Laura a big hug right now, but my phone call had to suffice...

We have thunderstorms rolling through the area, so I think I'll sign off - bye for now!

I hate to continue this conversation ;) but Anthony does NOT have the option of returning his Kindle books early. He has a Kindle Fire tablet and every Kindle book that he has put on his device stays there until the loan period is over. He doesn't use Overdrive since it's a Kindle device. Perhaps that's the issue. We assumed that since you can return e-pub books that you can return Kindles as well. We looked and looked and when he tried the first time to return a Kindle he got a message saying that Kindle books cannot be returned once they are on the device. They just fall off when the loan period is over.

Very sorry to hear and read about the plane crash, DR Ginny.

Does Anthony search for titles on his Kindle Fire? After checking out and downloading a title, I logged into my Amazon account (I do this through my computer), went to "Manage Your Content and Devices," and there is a list of all my titles, including e-books from the library. There's a column labeled "Action" and if you click that box next to the title, it should have an option to "Return this book." I clicked on that, I got the message, "Are you sure you want to return this Library Loan Ebook?" I clicked Yes and it was "Successfully returned." I went to my library's OverDrive site for that title and it's again available for the next patron.
-
In other words, I just found out that I can return my library Kindle books, but through my account on Amazon, not through my device (if I had the Wi-Fi turned on), and not through my account on OverDrive.

I'm confused. Why would there be an e-book that you wouldn't want to lend? There are tons at amazon that are lendable.
Can you lend all the e-books you purchase? Of the books I purchase there are very few that offer the option to lend them. I'm sure there are more, I just don't seem to buy them.
Not all of them, but a lot of them. Plus I am lucky because I have a book friend who buys a lot of e-books and generously offers me first dibs at all the ones that are lendable.

This is exactly how i return my borrowed kindle e-books early, thru amazon on my computer not directly on my kindle.
-
In other words, I just found out that I can return my library Kindle books, but through my account on Amazon, not through my device (if I had the Wi-Fi turned on), and not through my account on OverDrive.
Yes i bet if Anthony went on his computer and into his amazon account he could return his kindle library books. it's on amazon's site as well.

Well, I need to leave work and run a couple of errands before I go home. Tonight, I need to do some laundry before we start the third weekend of "Laughing Stock" tomorrow night. I don't have any of my costume pieces, so I don't have to worry about that...I just need some clean clothes.
Be back later.

I hate to continue this conversation ;)

You are lucky to have a generous friend. I have lent and borrowed, and I can tell my Nook friends that I have a book for them to borrow. DR td had sent me books to read but that was when he worked for B&N. He isn't as active on Goodreads either so I'm guessing along with not posting here he is not reading as much as well.
-
DR Jane, when you said that 137 e-books are lendable are you saying that you think that is how many e-books B&N has that are lendable?
That can't be. I'm pretty sure that most e-books that are lendable on amazon are also lendable on B&N.
-
I see that you can search lendme's on B&N (don't think you can do this for amazon). But i wouldn't do it anyways.I just look at the books that i want to read and the books people in my book groups are talking about and i check if those are loanable.

Vixmom, I am glad that your day was better than you expected.

Hello, everyone.

Vixmom, I am glad that your day was better than you expected.
Me, too.

I am in the same camp as TCB on the ebooks issue, too--I haven't a clue.
-
I went back to the Old Actors Lunch today. First time I have been in several weeks.

Thank you, Jeanne, I thought I was alone.

I've just been watching more CALL THE MIDWIFE. There is so much heart in this show.
What strikes me is how so much of the popular music of the 1950s and 1960s were love songs. And so much of today's music is full of hate--the rap music, anyway. I hear very little of today's popular music, other than BK's songs and Broadway, which I put in a different category.
-
I think it's very nice that you have the Old Actors lunches. So many of my old friends have gone hither and yon.
-
Are you seeing more progress, Tom?

Well, it is a good excuse to go out to lunch once a week.

Has Nicky settled in?

Are you seeing more progress, Tom?
In what regard?

I think that's a good thing. Don't you?

Are you feeling better? Is the cough subsiding?
-
Has Nicky settled in?
He seems to be back to normal, but he does tend to take his afternoon naps somewhere that I can't find him. I think he is just being on the safe side.

Yes, thank you. The cough is bothering me less and less. But boy, did this episode take the energy out of me.

I know what you mean. I spoke to a friend today, whose husband is NEVER sick. He had the flu and still has the cough. My friend was sick as well. I've heard lots of stories like that from this year's cold & flu season.

It is a little late for a water search and rescue.

I'm glad you're doing better.

We get a lot of those.

I thought I had managed to make it thru the worst of the flu season. Then I go on a Caribbean vacation and I get sicker than usual.

Oy. They're finally on to you. The jig is up.

I spent a lot of time at your military base in Bremerton many years ago.

When I lived in California I was forever flying to the East Coast for business. I moved to DC and was suddenly being sent to the West Coast. The first year that I lived in DC I made three trips to Seattle. I was never home.

ON THE TOWN has settled in and the director needs to come back and kick some butt. One of the three leading ladies I didn't like last September is now so over the top that nothing she says or sings, except for "Some Other Time," has any basis in reality. To say I loathed her performance is being generous. I found her embarrassing.
As for the other five leads, theu and Michael Rupert are really good, and the choreography and orchestra are amazing. I didn't care for Jackie Holloway in september, but I think she's got her head around the part now and she's very funny. Same holds true with the actress playing Lucy Schmeeler. It's a fantastic production.
-
What were you doing in Bremerton? Or if you told me would you have to kill me?

I am glad that you had a good time, elmore.
-
What were you doing in Bremerton? Or if you told me would you have to kill me?
Something like that. I think it was the production automation project I worked on for the Navy. I recall very little of the it now. I do recall having a weekend off and we all went up to Victoria, which was a delight. I also recall eating some wonderful salmon.
-
I see that elmore's friend, Danny Burstein will be playing Tveye on Broadway next January

Victoria is wonderful. Everyone should visit there.

Agreed. I'd love to go back.

The Indian museum was quite interesting, too.

This is the perfect time of the year to go.

Perhaps I should say Native American. But in this case it was Native Canadian. Or Native North American.
-
Inuit is the correct term, I think. I've always liked Inuit art.

Not summer?

Not summer?
Either one I suppose. I was thinking of the flowers blooming.

I'm going to call it a night.
Good night, all. Have a good day tomorrow. I hope Costco calls Vixmom.
-
Good night, Jeanne.
-
Finished with my viewing.

Today was better than I expected
That's good news, Vixmom!

I just watched "ParaNorman," that I got from the library.
-
I'd never seen this and I really enjoyed it.
-
I didn't realize that Elaine Stritch was the voice of Norman's (dead) grandmother.

We, since we're so close...

I couldn't recognize many of the voices. The only ones that I recognized were Elaine Stritch, John Goodman and Jeff Garlin. I had to read the credits to find out that Anna Kendrick, Casey Affleck, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Tempestt Bledsoe and Alex Borstein were in the cast.
-
I don't recognize the names of any of the other actors. ::)
-
I did know that one of the characters (the hunky brother of Norman's best friend) turns out to be gay.
