Title: ELEVEN HOURS
Post by: bk on April 13, 2015, 12:11:20 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not eleven hours long, and now it is time for you to post until the eleventh-hour cows come home.

Good morning, all.

Damn, that last dream was interesting, and it was cut short a little bit.  Well, you won't think it was so interesting.  But I did.  It was about me just having finally discovered the secret for keeping my desk (and all its drawers) clean.  Isn't that pathetic?  I was especially sad to wake up and see that there was my desk, piled high.

Coffee!

Chas I have often had dreams wherein I suddenly notice a door in my house I never noticed before. When I open it I find , to my great joy, empty rooms perfect to for putting all the extra stuff which doesn't fit anywhere

Along the lines of the TOD, I definitely could have used more sleep.

This is one of those mornings that I feel like whatever I utter -- whether it be "good morning" or something more complicated -- is going to come out totally garbled and, put to paper, look like a vixmom post.

Oh!  Hi, vixmom!!    :D

Oh my, aren't those the SADDEST dreams to wake up from?

Believe me, I've had more than my share of them.  They're incredible.

TOD. There have been multiple times over the years when I was up 24  to 36 hours straight , unfortunately towards the end of that time period you rather start to feel drunk or drugged

I have always, since I was a small child, resented the need to sleep.  Think of all I could get done if it was not necessary

Most of my long sleeps have been the result of being put under for an operation...I am apparently particularly susceptible to whatever they use to put one to sleep.  When I had my thyroid removed it took them 12 hours to wake me up again when they told Vixdad i'd be awake in one

Yes!  Or you're just poking around someplace and you begin coming across more and more loose change (quarters, then half dollars, silver dollars...) lying about the place, and there are more and more piles of it -- it's like a slot machine spilling its guts to you -- and just as you decide to get something to put it in so you can carry it out of there...

Oh, the heartbreak!    :)

Good morning, all! My computer lamp just noisily died.  I was afraid for a moment that a fuse might have blown.

Thus morning, at 10, I meet my new primary healthcare giver - I really detest that nomenclature.  I'll have a report on Dr Teng later.  i g directly frm there to City Center to help Joshie prepare for tomorrow's orchestra reading.

I have nothing more to report at this moment.

TOD:

Since I nap almost daily, I don't know the shortest I ever slept.

However, I think the longest I've ever gone without sleep was when I came back from Ireland after shooting THE DOORWAY.  I got up before 6 am, so we (me and the cast) could do the 2 hour drive to the airport in Shannon.  The cast was on an earlier flight, but my flight didn't leave until 1 pm.  I didn't sleep on the flight to NY, not during the 2 hour layover before the flight back to Los Angeles. Didn't sleep on that one either.  I walked into my home in Calabasas 24 hours after I first woke up in Ireland.  It was another 2-3 hours before I went to bed.

Don't say "extension" around tax people.  They'll get the idea that you'd rather go on extension than get your return out by the 15th.

I didn't much like MAD MEN last night.....I am annoyed that NEW people keep being introduced when I just want to see the regulars.  If you only have seven hours or so to wrap up six years, I would think you need to dedicate every minute to the people we know.

TOD:
I think a couple times I've slept for 10 hours after pulling an all-nighter the night before.

The shortest of I've ever slept was 90 minutes, which I did TWO nights in a row, working on a project for work. It gave me a splitting headache and a sour stomach. I left work early the second afternoon to go home and sleep. My mom called wanting directions to my house, but insisted on calling me back an hour later to get the actual directions. I don't know why I didn't just tell her I needed to sleep. Well, it didn't matter because even though the phone was right by my bed I slept right through all her ringing. She thought I was mad at her and just not answering.

TOD:

I think the longest I've ever slept was the weekend I started life without caffeine. I started on a Friday and had the worst headache from the withdrawals. Then I went to sleep early Friday and stayed asleep for most of Saturday and Sunday. I think I was conscious for about 12 hours the whole weekend.

Monday, when I went back to work, the headache was still there and I was exhausted. I slept for about 10 hours a night for the next week.

About two years prior, my staff had helped me when I gave up smoking. They said -- and I agree -- that that was fairly easy. But they told me I so horrible when I gave up caffeine that they would never go through that again.

Daniel Auteuil, who was so good in Jean de Florette, has written and directed a new version of the Fanny trilogy. Only this time, it's two movies, "Marius" and "Fanny." I watched the first over the weekend and loved it. I'm a sucker for Marcel Pagnol. And the two lead actors are gorgeous, which doesn't hurt.

Have been having an "amusing" e-mail volley with my producers on the ALS show.  We had room for another two or three numbers due to Petula not being able to do it.  So, they recommended two people I didn't know at all and I said that was fine.  I then suggested Sami do my song Annie, because I know it lands and always gets an incredible reaction wherever she does it and she'd done it a lot (it's also in the Welcome to My World show - no way we weren't doing it there).  Now, since I as director of the show have accepted many people on blind faith just because I'm a team player, and I have made musical arrangements for those people to show them off in their best possible light - well, the only response I wanted was "Do it."  Unfortunately, that is not the response I got from one of the producers, someone I've known way too long and who should really know better.  I was completely offended by the e-mail, and I was very strong in my response.  To add salt the e-mail also said that this producer didn't think Sami was a good fit and then recommended two people we had last year who really were problematic.  I think her fellow two producers would have been fine with it, but after seeing the e-mail I just took Sami off the table, as it were, and said onward.  Apologies were offered but they weren't meant and it was all about that the person hoped we were all allowed to have opinions.  I of course replied yes and that we were also all allowed to have opinions about the opinions.  It was a stupid thing to do, especially as it involved a song of mine and I'm donating huge amounts of time and energy to this thing.  But, onward we go.

Sorry to hear this, DR George.

Thanks, Kevin.

"What's Up, Doc?" is on TCM at 10 pm Eastern tonight.  I think I'll be asleep by then.

My dad asked if I could record it for him.  From my computer here at work, I was able to set up my DVR to record it, but I own the DVD, so I think I just might give him my purchased DVD.  My sister also owns the movie, so I know where to get a copy if I want to see it in a quality better than a burned DVD-R.

Topic of the Day:

The longest that I've stayed awake is probably 40 hours when I was involved with a Relay For Life team here at work.  Never again. :P (the staying awake part, not the being involved with a Relay For Life team).

I think that the longest I've slept is around 18 hours or so...probably when I was sick or something like that.  Surprisingly, I only slept eight hours after staying up the 40 hours for the Relay For Life event.

And now, it's time to go home, forage for food, watch some TV and burn some DVDs.

Be back later.

Had a good meal at Hugo's and then a fun work session.  Sami is getting more used to what I need the pace to be and she's finally getting the storytelling idea better.  I must say, some of the monologues are REALLY funny.

I honestly tried to sit down and watch a movie, but I can't.  I had to finish choosing the Kritzerland show songs, which I did - all but two anyway and those will be Berlin songs so I'll just figure those out tonight.  We're still one person shy of being cast but since I know it's a gal I chose the songs anyway.  I found a couple of delightful I Can Get it for You Wholesale songs - I never even played the CD, which I've had since it came out.  Go know.  And one fun thing will be having Maddy Claire Parks sing South America, Take it Away from Call Me Mister - her grandma introduced the song, her grandma being Betty Garrett.

Well, he is signed-in, but probably watching CASTLE.

Nope...CASTLE is a repeat.  I'm recording Michael Feinstein's PBS special from last fall from my DVR to my sister's laptop so that he can make me a Blu-ray disc.  I can make a DVD myself, but not a Blu-ray.  At least, not yet.  The plan (yet, again) is to get a new computer and have Larry put in a Blu-ray burner so that I can do this all myself.  That would be cool.
Title: Re: ELEVEN HOURS
Post by: George on April 13, 2015, 11:19:05 PM
Now, I'm recording the Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga concert.  I made a DVD of it for my dad, but Larry wants a Blu-ray of it.  I wouldn't mind one since he's going to make one for himself.  My dad doesn't have a Blu-ray player, so he only wanted the DVD.
