Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the first step on the journey, and now it is time for you to post until the journeying cows come home.

Sorry I missed your birthday yesterday, DR Jennifer. I hope you had a marvelous celebration!

I really enjoyed your use of words in your poem, DR Dan M.

So good to see Jane's wonderful new community. Wishing you both much happiness there!

For fans of Leonard Bernstein's Mass, an interesting article in advance of performances in Philadelphia this coming weekend:

Results vibes for DR DAN M.

Private Reading Success vibes for MR BK & Sami & Co. Although I guess they ARE the company.
-
I am feeling better, thank you.
We have 4-hour run throughs the next three nights....then we are off on Thursday....and then Friday and Saturday performances. So, I will work on my lines today.
I am still not sure how this is going to go. I think I will know more AFTER tonight's rehearsal.
-
I certainly won't know LESS.
-
Good morning, all! I had this long dream that I was back at the Drama Book Shop, and I was told that I had to be in Atlanta the next morning for an important meeting at 10:00 with a regional theatre company. Is that the Alliance? I was in a car heading to the airport, eating a peach yogurt when the alarm rang and I woke up.
I need to hear from Joshie on his day at City Center. If he needs me, I will head down to 56th Street. If not, I will do the laundry and wrk on the long Moross number from Gentlemen, Be Seated! Act Two.
-
Good Morning! How did it get to be Monday again so soon?
-
DR Singdaw, at least two i my ROBERTA Collegians are in that production of MASS: Kevin Vortmann is playing the Celebrant, and Tim McDevitt posted a photo of a rehearsal. Sarah Uriarte Berry is also in the production.
-
Oh....I misread the schedule. We rehearse Monday and Tuesday....dark on Wednesday and performances on Thursday and Friday......
-
Great gambling news from TCB! Congrats.

And the word of the day is: OS!
Is this as in Operating System?
-
Thank you DR Ginny. We are looking forward to someone else doing the hours and hours of yardwork.
-
So good to see Jane's wonderful new community. Wishing you both much happiness there!
Thank you :)
-
Monday morning greetings! I have two - count 'em, two - AAUW meetings today. The first one is with a committee to help them prepare the report they'll present to the board tonight. I will be so glad to turn this responsibility over to Nita soon!
-
DR Jennifer we don't go to sports bars very often. I guess I never want to go when a big game is on.
-
Ginny, kind of like how we feel letting someone else do the work here. It isn't just the house. Keith maintains the road too since the neighbor above us doesn't help like the previous people did.
-
Good morning, all.
I had an okay but weird (as usual) dream, the main gist of which I can't quite get a handle on. (I'm not entirely sure I had a handle on it while dreaming it.) I just remember moments of it.
Finally, a blessed day off. And one which I will try to use to best advantage.
-
Break-a-Leg vibes for a good and productive reading tonight!
-
Ginny, kind of like how we feel letting someone else do the work here. It isn't just the house. Keith maintains the road too since the neighbor above us doesn't help like the previous people did.
I hear ya, DR Jane. The more difficult it's gotten with my Mom, the harder it has been for me to keep up with my AAUW work.
-
Thanks DR George, the building feel more like being at a resort than condos. We hope having neighbors is nice cuz we sure have enjoyed not having many.
-
Without traffic we will only be 15 min from the airport.
-
Jane, are you concerned about airplane noise?
-
You probably already said, but which airport is it, DR Jane?
-
Josh needs me tomorrow, so I have the bedding in the washers.
That takes care of the next 90 minutes of my life.
-
DR Ginny, I've had several strange encounters this weekend with a mutual Middletown Facebook friend!
-
DR Ginny, I've had several strange encounters this weekend with a mutual Middletown Facebook friend!
I think I saw those, DR Elmore...
-
Jane, are you concerned about airplane noise?
Actually we enjoy watching the planes. For the most part the landing and take off noise isn't right next to us. The reason we went with building 7 is that they learned from earlier buildings how to reduce the sound so you don't hear it from inside.
We had been warned about the military jets. We have them here and they are LOUD. Here they fly so low it can be scary, while cool at the same time. What we didn't expect was how often the military jets fly over the condo area. At least they stay up high :)
The hotel we just stayed at was in the area and we spent hours walking around and were fine with the outside noises.
-
You probably already said, but which airport is it, DR Jane?
Portland.
-

Since she sent me the friend request, I could not decipher her ramblings about who are you? Has she been showing signs of mental problems?
-
Even before we began dating Keith would take me to a road that was between the LA airport and we would watch the planes land over our heads. I think it was called Airport Blvd or Aviation Blvd. Bruce or Jeanne do you know?
Watching the planes take off and land across the river brings back those good memories.
-
Meeting and Mom vibes for DR GINNY.
-
Exciting to finally see old classmate, Loretta Lynch, with whom I went to law school, finally sworn in after all these months.
-
DR Jane, as an old L.A. airport watcher, I had a few favorite spots at LAX:
The one on Aviation Blvd. was right across the street from the eastern end of the south runways. You could stand there right underneath the jets on their last few seconds of landing approach. (Jeez, did I use hearing protection when doing that??) As I recall, there was just enough space for a few cars to turn into. I'm looking at the birds-eye views on Bing Maps, and can see that it's completely fenced off now. Things have changed around airports.
People also used to park on those abandoned streets between the airport and the ocean. More distant from the runways, but you'd see a lot of takeoffs and landings from both sets of runways. I remember one windy day, watching the large jets battling the crosswinds on landing. They have that area tightly fenced off, too, not only for security but because they've basically allowed all of those streets to crumble. (I forget the history of that -- it was obviously planned to be residential originally (which is rather incredible), but did they ever build anything or was it abandoned after only the streets were put in?)
Another spot I liked was on W. Imperial Hwy. along the southern border of the airport. You can park on a little parallel street called Imperial Ave. that is elevated and provides a nice view across to the terminal and theme building area.

I thought it had already been closed off the years you lived there or I would have included you in the question. Then it was Aviation Blvd we went to, along with all the others parking. I don't think we ever got out of the car. That would have been LOUD!
-
When we were last in Venice visiting Keith's first childhood home, which is now next to the golf course Ford crashed into, the planes from Santa Monica airport kept flying right over us and we found it rather annoying.

I think 1984 would be roughly the time I was last at that location.

I guess we moved away long before they closed it off. We hadn't been there in years before we moved. We didn't go too many times after we graduated high school.

It is good your time as a leader is ending. Have you thought about taking a break from it all together, just for awhile?
-
DR Jennifer we don't go to sports bars very often. I guess I never want to go when a big game is on.
It wasn't a sports bar. And there was no game scheduled when i made the reservation. It was just a fluke.
-
One of the most forgotten series finales has got to be the one for The Partridge Family 2200 A.D.
-
The final show of Quantum Leap sort of made that into the sci-fi Highway to Heaven.
-
None of the Krofft shows had any true series finales. Each were usually 17 episodes made to endlessly repeat.

I'm up, I'm up - a little over nine hours of sleep. Sami apparently still has the remnants of her bug so keep sending vibes and xylophones for her and me - don't want to get it. She's fine now - stayed home from school and they think it's because she ate pasta that was too rich.

Vibes to keep Bruce and Sami healthy and to keep that bug far, far away.
-
The laundry is finished. It's the bedding that kills me. I'm too crippled to wrestle with mattress pad, contour sheets and blankets. I am very happy it's finished.
-
Maybe I'm not sophisticated enough to get "it" but I never liked the finales for Seinfeld or The Sopranos. Sometimes it's better to just let the series end with no definitive ending.
That's one of my biggest gripes for All in the Family when the decision was made to kill off Edith. Somehow that was too bleak for the series. Then, the follow up series Archie Bunker's Place was overkill and the follow-up follow-ups were even worse like Gloria and 704 Houser. When a show is beloved, just let it go and it's not always necessary to put a fine point on it.
DR Michael picked the best finales. Both Bob Newhart series were great. I liked his later efforts but none were as memorable as his first two series.
-
TOD
The St. Elsewhere and Newhart ones were the best ever.
Oddly enough, I never saw the All in the Family one. Probably not even the last season or two. (That was a couple of years in which I was watching hardly any TV.)
I'm haven't been too happy with contemporary ones for such series as The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, and Big Love. Of course most people hate the Sopranos one as much for what it failed to do, which was tie up at least a few loose ends. For Six Feet Under, I always felt the decision to end the series was premature (I forget why, now), so that colors my view of the otherwise pretty damned good finale. I loved Big Love, but felt they had gotten themselves into a trap (the election to office thing) from which there was no way out -- since most of the goings on prior to that had roots in reality, and I think such a campaign and election could never have gotten that far in real life.

None of the Krofft shows had any true series finales. Each were usually 17 episodes made to endlessly repeat.
"Mr. Rogers" never had a real finale, also. I'd read that he said that kids of the age who watch his show wouldn't understand why everyone is saying goodbye, but then be on again the next day, so his last show was just a regular show.

That's how I think most shows should be. The characters can live on in some alternate universe. While I agree that Mary Tyler Moore or M*A*S*H each had a great finale, there are natural points in the evolution of a long-running series where the writing or story line or loss of an actor creates a sort of close or ending, or network interference. I know that this can only be assessed in hindsight.
-
Of course, with the purposefully short-series like McGoohan's The Prisoner, it's almost necessary to have a conclusion. But, what I like about that one as well as the two Newhart series, is that they are gordian knots and do not detract from re-viewings.
-
One recent short-lived show, Magic City, which was told it was shutting down near the end of its second season, pulled off a series finale that tied up its story lines AND was somehow still a good episode otherwise. Of course those of us who liked it would have stood for another season or two, easily.

Then there are the series that don't seem to know how to end, whether it's the loss of interest on part of the creator or network interference. I don't really remember how that surreal show Get a Life ended. Looking back, the first season seems better than the second. I haven't seen that show in a very long time. Interesting that some of the best seasons of Newhart (where he's the proprietor of a Vermont inn), and The Simpsons, link to Get a Life, due to David Mirkin's involvement. I think he added the nth degree of absurdity.
Also, the original Twin Peakswas better in the first season than the second. I think that was due to David Lynch being involved in some other projects and ABC's meddling. The again, ABC's meddling in a proposed Lynch series with Ann Miller led to the movie Mulholland Drive.
-
I will state something that will be sacrilege for some. I never much cared for Three's Company. The proof for me is that I cannot sit through any reruns. I never found John Ritter funny. Sorry, but he just wasn't for me. I always felt that he was trying too hard to be like Lucille Ball. If you're funny, you're funny. If not, well then to me it seems strained. Naturally, the spin-off series The Ropers and Three's a Crowd, to me were abysmal.
-
I also was never on the Friends bandwagon. Didn't care about any of the characters. I think it's horrible that CBS has again tried to remake The Odd Couple. I tried to watch one episode. Feh!
-
But then again I like My Favorite Martian with Bill Bixby and Ray Walston.

A lull. ::)
-
I found out last night that today was supposed to be the day that The Midnight Sun (Theater Artists Olympia's performance space) would be getting interwebs (and Wi-Fi) access. I was told (because I'm the TAO treasurer) that the appointment window would be between 1pm and 4pm. Well, it's after 4pm and I wasn't called to be told that they're on their way.
-
Jacqui (one of our board members and the one who scheduled today's appointment) was supposed to be called 15 minutes before the interwebs people would be there. She would then call me so that I could get down there, also. Well, I haven't been called, which means that she hasn't been called, which means that THEY never showed up! How rude! >:(
-
Well, I'm going to leave work and go downtown to see if they'll show up anyway. I won't be able to stay too long because tonight is my condo's annual Home Owners Association meeting and I feel like I need to be there.
Be back later.
-
Trying to catch up with Downton Abbey Season Five. The writing is fairly sluggish.
-
Even Maggie Smith is sort of sluggish.
-
It's getting so warm that I may have to turn the AC on before May. Don't like that.
-
Don't think I got the job. During the interview today, I heard a series of phrases telling me in various ways that this may not be my time but that the next position that opens ...
-
Off to work.
-
But let's move on.
-
Shall we?
-
One more post.
-
Four!
-
Craig called to discuss what we can leave of his stuff and what we need to take. He never made that road trip home for the rest of his stuff as Yogi is getting old and doesn't tolerate the summer heat anymore.

Oh wow, Derek Hough is brilliant. Did anybody else see that dance? Amazing!

Happy belated DR Jennifer, hope it was a great day

I missed DWTS I had to go back to work to call the Philippines
-
Now I'm watching Baltimore burning
-
Sorry to be so E and T, I've been working and working and working to catch up . I'm not quite caught up, but I'm getting closer every day and it feels pretty good.
-
Another crazy day in at 7:30 am out by 11pm
-
Sorry folks, Jrand gave me whatever illness he had.
-
My head has turned into a marshmallow.
-
And Nicky has been looking at me like I am a smore.
-
My brain is not working.
-
I didn't sleep at all last night; and then I slept all day today.
-
Every time I woke up, the Nepal death total had gone up again.
-
I believe there has been an earthquake in my stomach.
-
One can of soup was the entire menu for today.
-
I don't even know what is wrong with me.
-
It isn't the flu (I don't think), but it isn't the bronchitis again either.
-
I don't even have a cold.
-
Maybe it is food poisoning?
-
Blah, food!
-
Perhaps when I recover, I should consider BK's new eating regime.
-
One or two posts and then bedtime.
-
I think!
-
Or maybe the night in the bathroom.
-
Sorry, I am done.
-
G'ngiht!

G'ngiht!
Hope you feel better. When you feel better you'll probably want some s'mores.

-
IT'S PAGE FIVE...FINALLY!!
-
So, the installation of the Internet access will have to be rescheduled.
-
Tomorrow, Jacqui is going to call the person she was dealing with to find out what happened...or didn't happen, actually.
-
After that, I went to my condo's annual Home Owner's Association meeting.
-
It was very informative, but we didn't have a quorum, so we couldn't vote on anything.
-
Had a good rehearsal and then the private reading, which I thought went very well.
-
The only real issue that needed a vote was for a couple of new officers.
-
At least one is going to be moving, and one other (there are three board members) has an opportunity and might move out of state.
-
Don't think I got the job. During the interview today, I heard a series of phrases telling me in various ways that this may not be my time but that the next position that opens ...
That's too bad, but it does sound optimistic.
