Well, you've read the notes, the notes mentioned both Minsk and Pinsk, and now it is time for you to post until the Minsk and Pinsk cows come home.

The storm woke me up.

The dog was crying so I let him out of his room and is no with me.

I would sing My Favorite Things but I would scare him more.

There was a movie that got 0% this past year. That schmuck kid from Growing Pains "Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas". Subtitled:"Put Christ back into Christmas".

He tried to get his "followers" to artificially inflate the percentages but it didn't work.

Good morning, all! I have another day with Joshie at City Center.  I will head down around 9:45.  Before I go, I must call my doctors office for the address of the ophthalmology clinic in Washington Heights that I must visit tomorrow fr my 9:30 appointment.

At City Center, I'll turn over my trombone parts and see what else Joshie has for me to do. Tonight 'm having dinner with one of my foundation colleagues who's also been disconcerted by the sudden closing proceedings of the Man from Philadelphia.

DR Elmore warned me that the movie is sad, but I watched ZORBA THE GREEK last night and of course he is totally right.

I don't suppose I'd seen it except maybe once in the intervening years since its release.  I saw it in the theater as a teen who most certainly didn't pick up on the real grit of the story then.

What a beautiful film.  They don't make 'em like that.  And it's on a fine Blu-ray.  I'll spin it again soon to listen to the director's commentary.

After the reading of Sami's show on Monday, Mark and I stopped at a deli in Calabasas for a late night meal. As Bruce mentioned, there's a part of Sami's show that mentions sex education, which prompted Mark and I to have a discussion about whether or not we had to attend such a class in school. Mark did, but I did not. My 7th grade biology class did have a section on reproduction which covered human reproduction as well as other animals, so that's the closest I got. Mark on the other hand took a formal sex ed class which actually required he have his mother sign a permission slip allowing him to attend. In that class they showed a short film called "Teenage Father" all about the evils of teenage pregnancy. He said the film was almost over before he realized the starring pregnant teen in the film was Suzanne Crough. The film won an Oscar. I was so surprised and saddened to read about her passing the next day after we had just been talking about her.

Several years ago, I saw the musical version of "Zorba the Greek" at ULCA as part of the Reprise! series. I don't remember much of it, other than that I enjoyed it. And I don't remember it being bleak. But I understand the musical can be very different from the movie.

DR Elmore --

I wonder if you ever knew a local friend of mine, Arnie Gross.  He's been retired for a while now and is battling some health issues.  I don't know the extent of his work on Broadway, but I knew he'd conducted ANNIE for a while, so I emailed him about replicating the sound of the "RMI".  Here's his reply.  (When I respond I'll have to tell him the current MTI materials are more bloated and unhelpful than he knows...)

Hi Charles -

Yes, it WAS an RMI - which had only 2 basic sounds, each was available as 8' and 4'. The closest sound to the opening of "Hard Knock" would be a mix of 8' harpsichord and 8' lute.

Have fun - it's a good score.

BTW, the show was originally written for 3 reeds, 2 trumpets, 1 trombone, guitar, bass (doubling tuba), Piano (doubling RMI and celestette (a terrible "clangy-sounding" miniature keyboard made by Jenco), 2 percussion, 1 SOLO violin, and 1 SOLO cello. Any parts beyond those were added for subsequent productions, and are unnecessary doublings. (All the flute was originally on Reed 1, but I understand that there is a separate flute book included with the rental, which is nothing more than a copy of the flute parts on reed 1.)

Arnie

I am waiting for the Roto-Rooter man. Never a good thing. Yesterday I found dirt all over the bathroom sink several times during the day. I always leave it clean. Apparently, when my neighbors use their bathroom sink the water is backing up into mine. Sigh. At least it isn't the Neanderthal Plumber who is coming.

So much for my plans for the day. Hopefully, he'll be done by noon and I can take care of an errand I wanted to get out of the way.

My very close (not varicose) friends who have all but officially adopted me since my Mom passed away in 2007, their Mom just passed away. I got to know her for almost 6 years, the time I've been here in Arizona, and she was quite remarkable for her 100 years, although there's no contemporaneous birth certificate.

Here's her obituary which is in the latest edition of the once-weekly local paper, The Parker Pioneer. I was surprised by being acknowledged by her family for my efforts in arranging a traditional priest to officiate a High Latin Funeral Mass for Mrs. McCabe. I just did it as my way to honor her life and memory since I knew that I could not be there in person. Parker is about 5 hours by car, on a good day, from Tucson.

MR BK is obviously unaware that the Bulgar 101- 3 Strings Orchestra released a recording of the entire Friedrich von Lowensteinmuellermitterbech collection on a budget LP in 1961.

The entire other side contained Bulgarian covers of Elvis Presley tunes.

That was a very nice thing for you to do DR DAN M.  Thanks for the link.

Thank you, but I was just doing what I could for Mrs. McCabe. I didn't know her in her heyday, but when she ran her farm and kept her books, and did all of the things around the house, and kept everyone in line, her nickname was "Big Valley" like the Barbara Stanwyck show.

Mrs. McCabe used to do fine lace work and measured out contact paper precisely before glueing it on her shelves, which were 1940s Moderne style steel. She was Martha Stewart before Martha.

I'm not in the best of moods. I've been worried about the results and didn't sleep well last night. I awoke at 2 a.m. Started to listening to NYC radio over the internet and fell asleep until 5 a.m. Then finally woke up around 9:30 a.m. Not the best way to get restful sleep.

While I was writing this post, the surgeon's office just called and said that while the results haven't come back yet, the surgeon Dr, Gernon, said that from his visual exam of the tissue, it appeared to be free of disease.

In my building, my next door neighbor on the same level moved out for good. She was very nice, very neat and clean, and very quiet. But she finally moved into her boyfriend's house.

The tenants above her on the second level moved out last month, and that unit is open.

Unfortunately for me, I still have the stupid kid above me. He's so annoying. I've complained enough about him to the front office that they've had some talks with him, so he's not as obnoxious, but he still acts like he was living in a dorm. From the time he moved in since the beginning of December until now, I've called the police on him 3 times. Because I am outside the city limits, it's the county sheriff who answers the call.

But this kid needs to be knocked down a few notches. One thing I can't stand is arrogant people who have no right to be so above-it-all. He's at the most 20, and he gives off a vibe I do not like. I'm usually pretty good at first impressions. When I first saw him move in, I could tell he was trouble.

Some days it's like living below conceited Dracula and his stupid girlfriend. She looks as dumb as a potted plant. During the day it's like they retreat to the crypt and then after 11 p.m. it's all kinds of activity. But lately, he's been tolerable because of my words with the front office. I put everything in writing because I know that they have to put that in the file. And because I have never complained before, the front office knows that the situation warrants attention.

They really made the mistake of placing him here. He's not mature enough to live in a quiet community. I know he's just a stupid college kid. But, he's a stupid college kid. As much as I can't take a crying baby, I would take that over this arrogant kid.

I guess I sound like a grumpy old man, but I'm trying to regain my health and fight cancer, not fight some know-nothing.

Thanks for the advice. I stopped taking the painkillers because I would rather deal with that than with feeling stopped up. I'm still sore and uncomfortable from the surgery. I guess my low white blood cell counts have something to do with that. It's getting closer to low normal, but all my blood work is very slow in getting back to where it should be.

Today is a pretty exciting day for Montreal soccer.  They are the first club from Canada in the Champions League finals.  There are going to be 60K+ fans here tonight at the stadium.  If they win or tie 0-0 they will win.  They are definitely the underdogs by a lot.

Good Luck to Montreal Soccer!

I'm sorry for your loss, but what a nice obituary.  She seems to have had a good long life.

In Tucson, ANTENNA TV is the secondary channel to our local ABC affiliate KGUN. Since I can't afford cable TV, I have a digital antenna that was really cheap. I bought it at Radio Shack before it closed.

Since I have a delicate digestion due to the celiac sprue, I always keep a bottle of Aqua Hydrate because it has a high PH. There are other similar products. I'm no chemist, but it always seems to bring my stomach back to normal.

It's taken months and months, but I'm finally getting to where I want to be with my practice.  I didn't realize how many things I just set up or let Edith set up and went with it, even if it wasn't the best way to do things.   I've adjusted a lot of little things this month and they have made a world of difference in getting things done.  Being sick really put me behind and a lot hit the fan in a lot of cases all at once, so chaos prevailed, but it's calming down and gets better every day.
