Well, you've read the notes, the notes were west when they should have been east, and now it is time for you to post until the westerly easterly cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: AVER!
-
We took a lovely long walk in the woods of a nearby state park yesterday afternoon with my best friend from high school who is visiting here from north of Seattle. Great weather for it, too.
-
Sporadic thunderstorms are predicted for today.
-
We have two dinner parties to attend today - one mid afternoon, one tonight.
-
It is going to be quite strange not having Memorial Day weekend on the last weekend of this month.
-
I did not catch the Kentucky Derby yesterday.
-
Has anyone else been listening to Josh Groban's new CD of show music, Stages? I'm not sure yet how I feel about the arrangements.
-
The Jerome Kern Facebook page says:
Jerome Kern was possibly the greatest melodicist who ever wrote popular songs.
Is melodicist a word?
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
BTW, Monumental Miracle May (the topic) is not locked. A drive by poster could drop in and post something there. Just sayin'
-
A drive by poster could drop in and post something there.
What kind of a scoundrel would do something like that?
-
Soon will be making another attempt at sleeping.
-
Lovely photo from Ginny last night!

Good morning, all Even though Staples screwed up my plans at Toyland yesterday, I must go there this morning and deal with an emergency for my Jerome Moross co-editor. I hope I can be finished by early afternoon.
Last night's bizarre dream gave me a reincarnation jolt, like did this really happen 300 years ago? I dreamed I was in New York for an audition (!) and I went to Lincoln Center to see a rehearsal of Moliere's wonderful Tartuffe. The ticket cost $231 and nearly bankrupted me. Anyway, there was a string orchestra accompanying the comedy, and the cast was all dressed in 17th century costumes. It wasn't a Tartuffe I recognized: the plot was there, but the orchestra kept playing, and there were interludes with songs and actors speaking to the audience. Perhaps I actually saw this production in another life?
-
I will taxi down to Toyland, since i'm carrying a storage box and too much other junk. The earlier I leave, the less traffic and lower the fare.
-
Last night I watched the 2012 film of "Great Expectations." There were good moments but David Lean nailed it, and Martita Hunt holds the monopoly on Miss Havisham and Helena Bonham Carter gave the role a good try.
Still, given the plots and subplots, I think, like most Dickens novels, it needs more than two hours to give enough time to the setup, overall plot, the eccentrics, and the unraveling. I did like a lot of the actors, especially Ralph Fiennes as Magwich and Jason Flemyng as Joe Gargery. The moody sets and costumes were good, but I'm not sure the director told the story well. This was the smoke signals narrative.
I read this book over 50 years ago, and I was amazed how little I remembered. Time to reread it.

Sunday morning greetings! Because I chose not to stay in the conference hotel, I am not entitled to their free breakfast. The hotel where I did stay (for free with reward points) does not offer complimentary breakfast, so here I am at the McDonald's across the street. It's much quieter here than in a hotel lobby full of women, I'm sure.
-
Today's agenda goes until about 3pm, so I may be E & T until I get home early this evening.
-
Yesterday afternoon, I watched a couple of movies on TCM that I hadn't seen for about 65 years:
THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN with Mickey Rooney
KIDNAPPED with Roddy McDowell and Dan O'Herlihy.
Enjoyed the first very much. The second was just so-so, but it was fun seeing my late friend, Dan, in one of his earlier roles.
-
good morning to all
-
did get to watch a flicker last night. 9 to 5 is still a good film
-
Good morning, all.
Last night on the way home from Norwalk, I gave in to a rare sweet tooth craving and picked up several things at Dunkin' Donuts for a late night snack and this morning's awakening. I even splurged on a box of DD K-cups. So here I am, opening my eyes with various and sundry delectable treats for which I shall surely pay later in some way or other.
-
Yum.
-
Yesterday we had CAKE pictures and BABY pictures!
-
Show vibes for MR BK & Co.
-
I am preparing my reports for the May Bored Meeting.....
-
Good Morning! It seems to be a nice one.

That sounds lovely.

Greetings from Toyland! I had a major crisis when I got here, but I think all is relatively good now.
-
Major Crisis is the lead character in my next hilarious sitcom.

Quasi TOD:
Mr. BK raises an interesting if unintended TOD. What films have you seen that did a poor job of disguising the fact that they were not shot in the environs they allege their story to be set in?
I can think of many movies and TV shows that are supposed to be set in NY and have been obviously shot in Canada or L.A. with some very careless cover shots to give some illusion to sense of place.
-
DR ELMORE your dream does indeed sound like a mix of past performance memories that have melded into one......

Today would have been my mother's 99th birthday!

It was a helluva trip home. The City has blocked off Sixth Avenue for a bike marathon so that the buses are detoured and i could not pick it up to get home. I took a tax to Eighth Avenue, but i didn't know where the bus srp was and missed the bus. I had to wait 20 minutes for another, and of course the goddam bus stop has no bench for waiting. It took me about an hour and fifteen minutes to get home and around 6:30 I have to head back to midtown for David Lutken's hootenanny.

Good afternoon! I've been working on the yard the past couple days, getting it ready for summer. Lawn furniture in place etc. Today I planted a forsythia and some more hostas. I also planted some seeds for flowers for the monarchs, as recommended by DR Laura. Just before I planted them, I was in the back yard watering some plants and what popped out of the bushes.....a monarch! I was so pleased. I made sure to plant the seeds right away. It's supposed to rain off and on all week, so I wanted to get the plants in the ground and the seeds sown
-
I'm up, I'm up. Got up at eleven, but just stayed in bed until thirty minutes ago. So, not much time to kill before being on my way to The Federal - usually leave at three-thirty.
-
I'd noticed that thread wasn't locked just before coming to see the posts - so, it's locked now.
-
Page two? Really?
-
...and I'm home!
-
Have fun tonight DR elmore.

I'm so tired, I doubt I will be there long. I've invited some of the PAINT YOUR WAGON cast that I think might be good possibilities for "Christmas Up The Holler." I want to be there if any of them show, although i suspect they will know others there from other casts.

Another smoke filled day due to the controlled burns. I won't miss these days.
-
I'm watching "The Dust Bowl" on PBS. I've seen it in the past, but it's been awhile. I love Ken Burns docs.

Look we had "Ken Burns" and "controlled burns" (aka Ken Burns's rarely mentioned brother who scratches 35mm film to make it have that vintage look).
-
I'd groan but that's not allowed here :)

The THIS channel just started about 19 mins. ago THE BOND FROM THE BEGINNING MARATHON. As many times as I have seen the Bond movies, I can't help but watch them even when I catch them somewhere in the middle. Not all are great. I stopped following them closely after Pierce Brosnan. I've seen the Daniel Craig ones. They're just not the same. I think they're more affixed to the 60s/70s. Roger Moore's began the trend toward cartoonish reliance on gadgets. Timothy Dalton was dreadfully unwitty. I just think there's now too much reliance on CGI that the charm of the earlier films is gone.
Much of the miniature work in the 1960s/70s Bonds was handled by workmen/craftsmen who had perfected miniature effects working on the Gerry Anderson Super-Marionation extravaganzas such as Stingray, Thunderbirds and Joe 90. CGI still can look very fake. Well-done miniatures done in proper scale may still not look that real but they are real in the sense that they really exist in space, and so that is captured by the camera.

I would rather have the controlled burns than the dust Burns was telling about.
-
Major Burns from a controlled burn or from M*A*S*H would not be any fun either.
-
I must have made my 1100 millstone yesterday.
[In Jack Benny's voice:] Oh George, would you please record my millstone? I know it's not major, but it's a round number, and I like round numbers.

Vibes to BK!

We have also done a lot of yard work today....well my brother did. It's looking very nice.

Does he prefer getting paid by the yard or by the yard? :D

I know, I'm a groan-inducing bunny pastard today, don't know why. ::)

You are entertaining today DR Dan. Does this mean you are feeling good?
-
It was 77F today. I biked wearing shorts. Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
You are entertaining today DR Dan. Does this mean you are feeling good?
Today's the first day since my surgery on the 23rd that I've had any sustained energy. My left forearm is still feeling like it was bruised inside. That's where the IV was placed. Seems to be slow in healing. Since my white blood cell counts are still lower than the low normal average, my healing takes extra time, but I do heal thank God.
Could be why I'm having fun today. ;)
-
Fun is good DR DAN M.

I also just put a load of laundry in the dryer. I have more to do, but I don't think I'll get all of it done today.

I do have to wash my blankets and sheets, so those will definitely get done.

Tonight's dinner was an experiment. I just combined a bunch of odds and ends from the fridge. Not sure what to call it. Wasn't terrible, but was definitely missing something.
Had somewhere between one-quarter and one-half pound of ground beef, 80-85% lean, an orange bell pepper, about a half of a sweet onion. Mixed with salt, garlic, pepper, steak seasoning, cumin, parsley and more black pepper. When browned and cooked through, added one can of tomato paste, organic Roma tomatoes. Served over whole grain rice.
Just something I made up as I was at the stove. It definitely lacked something.
-
I do have to wash my blankets and sheets, so those will definitely get done.
LOL, that's all I didn't do today. I can do that after work some night
-
DR Laura----- I saw a monarch today
-
So I posted on facebook that I saw a monarch
-
One of my friends who lives about a mile from me said "I did too"
-
Another friend who is about the same distance in a different direction said he saw one too.
-
I'm also encouraging people to plant the same thing you recommended - seeds at a local farm and home store
-
It was in the mid to upper 80s today.
-
I was hoping for rain but it went north and east and south and west of us
-
Seriously
-
So Ricky is on guard to the west looking out the window into the dark
-
Boo is on guard to the south looking out the window into the night
-
Callie is on the floor looking up at the tv. I assume she's watching it, but who knows
-
I turned on my air conditioning for a little while today. Glad to know it worked before I really need it.
-
Does anyone watch Grey's Anatomy? I was really surprised at the regular they killed off. He said he signed a two year contract but apparently Shondra decided to kill his character off. Don't know that I believe that.
-
Only a few more posts
-
Before we can turn a page
-
Jennifer, glad you had a nice day today
-
This should do it

Ok Page 4

Dan, I didn't get a chance to record 1100, but if you post another 5 posts (as of this posting), I'll get your 1111th post! Repeated numbers are cool. :)
-
George, Dan, I see you....let's at least get this to page 5
-
Dan pun away
-
Hey George! How are you?
-
Dan 1111 is a cool number

I was just about to post that I just watched that episode. I'd read that even though he signed a 2-year contract, he wanted off.

"GA" was very good and all that, but in the preview of next week's episode, they show Derek's sister (played by Caterina Scorsone) saying, "I never got to say goodbye...because of you." I HATE that kind of resentment that seems to be common in "Grey's Anatomy." When Callie cut off Arizona's leg to save her life, Arizona couldn't stop being angry over the fact that Callie cut off her leg...even though it saved her life! I hated that plot device. :P

Can't find the article, but one of the articles said that his hiatus for several episodes during the year may have been tied to his personal life (the actor's, that is) but he didn't want to talk about details about that.
POSSIBLE SPOILER IN THE LINK
Update: here's the article that dealt with that.

Busy day and I actually got some things done
-
Not as much as I intended
-
But some things were done
-
Oh and the builder and the mason came over and rebuilt the wall that fell off the house
-
Did I mention that the brick wall on one side of the house had come away from the house?

I think that most movies that are supposed to be set in Seattle are filmed in Vancouver, B.C. They just use an establishing shot of the Space Needle.

Ah the joys of home ownership

Yes, a palindromic number.
-
Oh and the builder and the mason came over and rebuilt the wall that fell off the house
Sounds like that could be the beginning of those story jokes:
A cowboy and his horse walk into a bar . . . .
Two knots walk into a bar . . . .
Two carrots are in the hospital . . . .
Zsa Zsa, Cher and a spackler walk into a bar . . . .
Regis, Donald Trump, Burt Reynolds and a toupee walk into a bar . . . .
A nun, a priest, a rabbi and a Zen master go sailing in a barge . . . .
Crocodile Dundee and Richard Simmons ride on a subway train . . . .
Rachel Ray and Martha Stewart walk into a Jazzercise class . . . .
-
Maybe I'm late to this, but today I learned of an African proverb recorded in 1960 by Malian writer/ethnologist Amadou Hampâté Bâ:
"In Africa, when an old man dies, it's a library burning."
I think it's very true. What prompted me to look this up was a mention on a show but I didn't catch who it was attributed to. Reminded me of my friend's 100 year old mother who just passed away. What a library of information she would have been!
-
Oh gosh, we still have a way to go.

II was just about to post that I just watched that episode. I'd read that even though he signed a 2-year contract, he wanted off.
That makes more sense. He was making it sound like he had no idea he was going to be killed off. Maybe he didn't know how he was going to leave, but he had to have a clue his days were numbered

Goldfinger just started about 20 mins. ago. I think that's the Bond where it all jelled. I bet Maurice Binder who wound up doing the majority of the Bond series' opening titles regretted not having done the title sequence for "Goldfinger". Robert Brownjohn's titles are good and are the ones we Bond fans have become accustomed to, but I would have liked to have seen Binder's version. Many of the weaker and poorer Bonds, were saved by the title sequences and the cold openings, and of course the John Barry scores, even the Hamlisch one was good. Aside from the title song for "Live and Let Die" I didn't think there was much to recommend that movie's soundtrack. For me, it was the same as the George Martin stuff that was the "other side" for "A Hard Day's Night", "Help" and "Yellow Submarine". Good background/underscore music for the movies' purposes but not anything that really lives apart from the movie, other than the songs.

I gave up on following TV shows after The Sopranos. Many shows do not get the finales they deserve and I'm tired of investing time in shows that don't end "as they should" whatever that may mean. Sometimes it may be better to just end and not make a big fuss. The shows will live on forever and that way there's an unending loop. Maybe that's the Star Trek (original series) fan in me.
-
My parents lived the bond movies they would put we kids in our pjs, put pillows and blankets into the "way back" of the station wagon and off to the drive in we would go
-
We used to fall asleep son after that cartoons but I stayed awake for Goldfinger
-
I had night mares about the airplapane and car crushing scenes

Getting sleepy, listening to thunder. Time to sign off and go to bed

Interesting "Mad Men" episode tonight. I don't know what's going on with Don, but Peggy and Joan have some interesting stories.
-
I'll watch Mad Men tomorrow.
-
Back from our show, which was very good, and then some food.

Glad you had a good show, BK!
