Good morning, all!  In another 46 minutes I will head to my HMO for a test, fist attempt to decipher this lump in my neck.

Last night I finished reading Donald Spoto's biography of Alan Bates, which I really enjoyed. I did get very angry abut Bates' refusal to acknowledge his crazy wife's erratic behavior, which was certainly harming their children, but I finished the book with a great deal of admiration for his artistry and graciousness to everyone.  So, now I'm going to watch a lot of his films.

Today, I will begin GREAT EXPECTATIONS, my first crack at the novel since 1963 or so.  I now I've reread A TALE OF TWO CITIES in the past 35 years, but I cannot remember when that was.  On the 1980s, I think.

Last memory of reading Dickens: summer 1978, OLIVER TWIST.

I actually was a baton person in the 4th and 5th grades.  Since there were two of us boys, we were always placed in the center of the gymnasium on the school logo during the demonstrations.  It was most interesting and fun.

I may in fact still have my STAR BATON someplace.....but I doubt that I could do a toss and turn today.

I am going to make an appointment with the therapist today to try to get this pain to go away.....no sleep last night.

Precious was insistent that we take our walk this morning, but I had to cut it short.  I did finally sort of fall asleep about 8 a.m. - just in time for the street workers to show up and start their drilling ....

As you know, I wanted to drive up and over to see yuz all while in Cincinnati late next week -- but this trip, being a family thing with a wedding and all, well, the reality has set in and I'm afraid it just ain't happening.  I'm coming back that way again in the near future -- perhaps late June -- and it will not involve family, so I will let you know about that in the hope we can do it then.

Did you drive around the areas described in the book or did you use a map to help you describe the areas mentioned in the book.

I made a long post about that yesterday - but yes, I always go to the locations and take notes for each book unless I already know them really well.  Hoping you'll do the Amazon thing.

Today my hiking group went to Lithia Park in the Plaza.  The creek was flowing nicely and the flowers on the trees were in bloom.  It was especially beautiful and perfect for my last hike with them.  They then took me out for coffee/breakfast/hot chocolate.  It was wonderful.  One couple gave me a bag of the Mexican hot chocolate I enjoy, and now won't have to stop to buy more.  Another friend gave me a mug her daughter in-law made that says Ashland, OR.  The design on it is the symbol for the Trinity Church, which is the group I have been hiking with for almost 17 years now.  I choked up at this and became rather teary eyed.  I will be taking these with me.

Two of the women in the hiking group are also in my book group.  Tuesday is my goodbye meeting & lunch out with them.

Sigh.  Today is the first day I have become emotional about leaving.

TCB, you mentioned possibly moving to a mobile home. When I was growing up there were a number of mobile home parks around LA. It was a way for people on limited means to have a place to live. Some of these were quite nice. All the ones I know of have given way to unaffordable apartments and condos. I'd very much like to see a resurgence in affordable housing. I don't expect to see mobile home parks returning to LA--the property here is too expensive and I don't think that's what people here want. Are there many options of the nicer sort in your area?

I'm back from the Laurie Beechman Theatre and the Wright State Senior Showcase. I heard some nice monologues, a few songs I knew, several songs I'd never heard before and wouldn't mind hearing again, and a few that I never want to hear again!  A nice surprise was a ypung couple doing the popcorn number from LITTLE BY LITTLE, which BK recorded. here were some really talented graduates strutting their stuff.   I had a great time.

Those kids need some advice on dress, though.  One too loud zaftig blonde should never be caught on the streets in what she was wearing today. Awful.

I'm watching "Here's Lucy" on "cozi" tv.   I can't help but think how much better "I Love Lucy" was.  Ricky and the Mertzes are sorely missed.

I am on hold with Netflix.  I need to suspend our account.  We have the last disc of season 3 for "Call the Midwife" and "Wild" arriving tomorrow.  We don't want them to send anymore to this address.

DR Ginny I decided I should replace my very worn Vera Bradley bag before we move, and don't have to pay sales tax.  They didn't have it anymore and I can't find it online.  I love the style because it fits comfortably on my shoulder, and the back side has a compartment that is the wallet.

And now for something in a happier vein, I'm now leaving to go to another birthday dinner, this time with my friend Shelly.  We're going to a local Mexican restaurant called Plaza Jalisco.  It's very good. :)

Be back later.

Always hilarity in the soundtrack community.  I had a bet with someone whether one week could go by after we announced our Kritzerland a GoGo campaign before another label would just have to post that they had Golden Age scores coming up after almost a year of nothing but eighties and nineties scores, plus announcing THEIR anniversary.  I won the bet today, a day ahead of schedule.  :)

The Lucy Show is not too bad. But, Here's Lucy looks like a badly performed stage play where everyone is projecting to the nosebleed seats. Even the way the actors are blocked makes everything look unnatural. There's so much overacting, bad plot contrivances to shoehorn guest stars, and Gale Gordon. I guess he was considered a good actor, but he was also out of place during the final season of Dennis the Menace, not that Jay North was still the widdle kid. I always saw him as too much bluster. I never saw that much yelling until All in the Family came along.

Not a surprise. I guess there's an audience for almost anything. If I'm thinking of the same label much of the 80s and 90s scores they feature sound like nothing less than previews of video games. Especially since much of it can't stand apart from the movies, and in the movies function like sound effects.

I never got to see all of the 1980s Newhart, I blame college on that, but I've gotten hooked on the show. My vague memories of the show when it first ran was that Pat Summerall would say what was up next on SEE-BEE-ESSSS, 60 Minutes followed by Newhart and that wacky Linda Lavin and Kiss-My-Grits on Alice. Of course, those were the days I still followed the NFL.

Archie Bunker's Place I watched only because I loved All in the Family, but in retrospect, that was an awful sequel to a classic show.
