One of my favorite Truffaut films is La Nuit Américaine/Day For Night a movie about making a movie. It won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film. Valentina Cortese should have won for Best Supporting Actress according to the winner Ingrid Bergman in her acceptance speech.

Good morning, all!  I slept an extra hour; I'm slowing down, I fear.  I need something to recharge my life and five me a reason to get out of bed,

And enough self-pity.  I am really shocked by the Amtrak derailment last night, and I'm hoping that no one I know is among the dead or injured.  That Northeast Corridor train is my usual route to Boston or to DC, and it's such a wonderful trip.

DR vixmom, you need to get a velcro strip and close that damned drawer before you kill yourself.  I am very happy you are okay.

Well, today I must prepare for my all-day drive to Cincinnati tomorrow.

I'm taking a couple of hours to relax after the crazy day and evening that yesterday was.  I didn't watch or listen to any news last night and only saw mention of the train derailment here, so I shall now ketchup here and elsewhere and face that bit of unpleasant music.

Coffee!

Very inspiring notes today, Mr. BK, sir.

I wish I could say my own history with Truffaut was more complete.  I'm thinking that my first reading of the Truffaut/Hitchcock book might have been my introduction to the man!  My goodness.  Could that be?

I don't even know what my first film was, and I don't think I went to see Adele H. (I do remember seeing a trailer here and there), but won't know for sure until I watch the Blu-ray.  I've actually been accumulating the films as good editions come out, so I will get started on a little chronological Truffaut festival one day soon.

BK mentions there being no real revival houses around the mid-1960s, which initially surprised me until I thought about it.  By the time I was living in L.A. they were everywhere and going to them was a way of life.  My gut guess is that they were reaching their peak in the early-mid 1980s which would coincide with cable and home video really taking off.  But man, were those the days.

Oh wait, this can be an Ask BK:  Someday, please please please raid your stash of "L.A. Neighborhood" movie listings (I think you said you have some) for sometime in the late 70s, early 80s.  I'm thinking of that beautifully concise but thorough block listing in the Times, but anything would be of interest.  I would treasure seeing a few samples of what we so took for granted then.

Wednesday morning greetings!  Sorry I never logged in yesterday.  Monday evening I presided over my last AAUW Middletown meeting, at which we honored our scholarship recipients and installed our 2015-16 officers.  It went very well, but I was exhausted.  All I did yesterday was grocery shopping, reading, napping, and cooking a nice dinner for Richard.  There are some transitional things to do before my presidential responsibilities are fully over, but the bulk of my work is done.

I liked Truffaut's The Wild Child (1970) which I saw with Herzog's The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser (1974). Both are based on fantastic true stories and lend themselves to the philosophical question of "who is the savage?". An idea that was taken up by the film Greystoke which itself was a noble failure as it had pretensions for greatness.

Thanks.  They sent two nice packers.  I prefer not to have more than that.  We are still packing suitcases for our stuff.  We got rid of all our food and the head packer said the guy who gave us the evaluation was wrong.  We did not have to get rid of our non-perishables, and we had a full pantry of them.  We donated most of it which is fine.  On the upside, they will now pack the items we were taking with us.

There may be a recording yet of the Duck Dynasty show.  Question is whether it will happen this week in Las Vegas or here.  The show closes on Sunday.  I had a great visit with Steve the orchestrator and Don Oliver, who hired me to proofread. I got some more dish on the hated conductor of the Broadway hit. Fascinating!

The pollen count appears to be very high today' my eyes are scratchy and I am very sleepy.

The news on the Amtrak crash is that the curve where the derailment occurred should be taken at a speed of 50 mph; the train was running at 102 mph, 22 mph faster than the speed limit before the curve. I wonder if the driver fell asleep.

I brought my car in this morning and the shuttle driver got back from his previous run about a half hour later than what I was told.  When he finally did arrive, he had to drive one lady to her work, then pick up one guy from his home and bring him all the way back to the dealership...I was in the shuttle for almost an hour!  He was a nice guy, but everything just took too long today. :P

A couple of hours ago, I got a call from the dealership and they had a car that took longer than expected and asked if they could keep my car overnight.  Well, since I was actually expecting that, I said okay. ;) A co-worker dropped me off at a local restaurant for my lunch (it was sprinkling by this time), and picked me up when she was done with her shopping.  She said that she could also drive me home, if I wanted.  If it's not raining when it's time to leave, I will probably walk.  I did bring my umbrella, but my jacket is a light, nylon wind-breaker.  We'll see what it's like at 7:00 pm tonight.

I guess I shall peruse my CD collection and see what is there.

What about music from other MGM movies of the early 1950s?

I am trying to imagine what pre show music should be for 7 Brides for 7 Brothers....I don't want to use music from the show, but I can't find anything I like.  I tried American Folk Music, but that wasn't quite right.

I guess I shall peruse my CD collection and see what is there.

The song stylings of Seven Darden?

LOL DR FJL.

DR ELMORE I am trying to avoid movie music from the era just because it seems strange to me the let them hear movie music they are not going to hear in the show......I like the idea of the Percy Faith tunes.....maybe I will see what I have.....

Too bad their isn't a 101 Strings LP of 7B/7B songs.....

Good evening.  Had a productive day at work, went to the Meet the Team dinner for the Explorer's baseball team and then came home and mowed the yard

I tell you those Boys of Summer are really nice looking.  Of course I'm old enough to be their mother, but I can still look :)

And on that note (B-natural), I'm outa here.  My co-worker is driving me home, so I don't have to walk home in the rain...but I might have to walk to work tomorrow morning.  We'll see.

Until later!

Well, I am about ready to call it an early night.  Have to get up at an ungodly hour in order to hit the road.  I just hope I can sleep through to my wake-up call (i.e., old clock radio) without waking up in the middle of the night thinking about how important it is I get sleep, which is guaranteed to keep me awake.

Ditto. Good-night's-sleep vibes, too. When I know I must be up at a certain time it does tend to keep me awake. The last thing I need! Hope that doesn't happen to you.

I remember the Story of Adele H opening when I was in high school before I was old enough to see it. It fascinated me though when I finally caught up with it. One of my favorite Truffaut films.

Yes, I often used it, too. A very popular route.

Thanks Jeanne.  I saw one of the sons outside tonight.  He said his mom is really having a bad time.  I'm glad all her kids live here in town, she certainly needs them now and they are here for her.  She knows I'm here if she needs anything.

So, had that low-cal Cobb salad (with vinegar, a Cobb is really under four hundred calories) - and a cup of chili (also under four hundred calories) so I could eat a little something now - the question is what.  No pasta or anything like that.  Probably could do a Subway something or other.  Or get a little cube steak and fry that up.

I admire your keeping to your diet. I never had to before I learned I had celiac. My volunteer helper from the American Cancer Society had to go on a strict diet of no sodas, no sugars and no wheat products, for a different reason than me. He's a 70 year-old man and he looks 50. He said he was back down to the weight he was when he was 20 or so. He said he lost around 75 pounds. If I make it to 70 I would hope to look as good.
