Nice to be saying that at home again.

Good morning, all!  I will shortly head down to Tams-Witmark and begin work n the full orchestra score for The Golden Apple.  This full score, which is the conductor's 1954 Broadway score, needs to be reassembled with the 1970 revisions that Jerome Moross made to the score.  These revisions are in the published vocal score that I edited, but I had no idea that Tams-Witmark had sent the full score to Texas.  This explains some of the discrepancies between the vocal score and the forthcoming recording, and should have been nipped in the bud.  It only increases my dislike for the conductor of that production.

Beyond that, since I have no idea how long I will be there today or how much time this project will take, I'll come home, wrk n a few projects here, and wait for whatever fresh hell rolls down the pike.  tomorrow is another toyland day.

Well, folks, I got me a fine Monday morning welcome home howdy-do a little while ago.

Turned my computer on (I generally leave it on but had turned it off before leaving town), everything was fine, and then I went to look up something on IMDb... and picked up a nice case of Adware/Malware.  Of course I really don't know what to blame, but crap started happening as soon as I clicked on my search results there.

It had been quite a long time since that happened.  Control Panel Uninstall saw some new stuff and supposedly removed it, Revo Uninstaller saw a couple more things and supposed removed those, but the crap was still happening when I opened a browser.  Had to download Malwarebytes (which I thought I had, but it must have been on a former laptop), ran their scan, and it quarantined some 130 threats.  Incredible.  But I'm back in business.

There is a Peet's Coffe, Keith's favorite, across the stree in Fred Meyer's.  It is rather convenient to get coffee and shop at the same time.  I ordered my hot chocolate as usual, double chocolate and no whipped cream.  For the first timeit had too much chocolate.  As the barista showed me, double there is a lot of chocolate-lol

I'm up - got exactly eight hours of sleep.  My iPad hasn't been connecting to my wireless network for a week, and therefore has used up an entire month of data plan, which I will not pay more for.  I shut it off and restarted and it found the network - for thirty seconds, then it was gone.  Then it found it again.  Did the latest update and hoping that will fix it, otherwise I have to call Apple.

Too warm and muggy today.  i just napped for an hour.

Muggy NYC is as uncomfortable as all get out. Subways are like steam baths. Many memories of getting all duded up and having to wait for subway trains, late of course, crowds billowing, making it hotter and more uncomfortable. Then, you get to your destination looking like you were caught in a downpour.

Did a complete rewrite of Sandy's patter for the It Might Be Fun show, which I think she wants to do in DC and New York.  After we premiered the show here, I was not happy with a couple of things in the show order, and I was completely not happy with the thrust of the patter, so I changed almost all of it to be less about me (she thought it should be about me) and more about the songs themselves and how they relate to her.

So much better than the movie!  When I was in the play in high school our drama teacher wanted us to see the movie.  Of course this was long before home video, so he arranged a field trip for us to the studios of CKLW-TV in Windsor, Ontario (across the river from Detroit) for a private screening.  The girl in our cast who played Mrs. Daigle said Eileen Heckart sounded like a typewriter when she talked.

No, ever since I was hospitalized he's been living on my friends' farm. DC Minny still remembers me when I talk with him on the phone and, of course, when I am there in person. I would love to have him back here, but it would break my heart even more to take him away from what he's become accustomed to. I can't do that to him. It would be selfish to move him from the country back to a small apartment.

I may get another kitty. After my upcoming surgery, provided that all goes A-OK, I may look into getting another cat. I would like that.

I may get another kitty.

I sure hope you do!       :)

As long as the new kitty adopts me as its person. ;)

Lol.

We collected our first mail today out of our new mailbox.  :)

Congrats!  Just one in a long line of firsts at your new place. ;D

And now, it's time for me to leave work.  I need to go shopping for a few things before I go home, though.

Until later.

DR Dan, the love you have for your cat is obvious.  I'm glad you still can visit Minny.

He's so lovable. He's a scamp at times. And he likes to grab me at the ankle and play. Other times he wants me to brush him. I'm the only one who can hold him. He can't stand anyone else holding him. He does listen to my commands, reluctantly if he's not in a good mood, but he will come if I call for him, and if I say no, he will stop any bad thing he might be doing. But I will get a cat stare. Then, after a beat or two, he will lick me as if to apologize. He sure is a character.

I did (thanks!) but it didn't ( :( ).  I was going to contact them when I got home tonight to find out what went wrong.  Hopefully, it'll get resolved quickly.

We had a busy day and sorted out the confusion with the granite. The slab we wanted was sold  but there are others that are similar.  We then went to the floor store.  The woman helping us, and that sent us to the granite store, said the granite we want will be beautiful with the walnut wood floors and our cabinets.  She also said we will need a different tile backsplash but that won't be a problem and we can do that later.

We saw the carpets we pucked and are pleased.

I have been disliking their Piazza dialog/posting system. In my non-IT view, it has lots of flaws. That leads to posting assignments that are not reviewed by other students.

I really spoke my mind on my last posts after I saw some students were posting their same assignment 2 or more times, and were getting reviews, when I wasn't even getting one. Not that I am writing Shakespeare, but come on.

I received a condescending post by a fellow student that was my final straw. The main problem with the course is that the instructors are lumping experienced poets with beginners. I do not have the ability to truly take apart someone else's work, so what I wind up saying is not a deep critique according to the condescending student. She has poetry experience.

My suggestion is that there be a "class" for beginners and one for experienced writers like this condescender. Then the instructors require students to post this philosophical discussions about poetic techniques. I've barely learned the technique for a day or two, and now need to wax about it? That's too much. I don't think they appreciated my blunt comment saying that for me a lot of what I saw from other students was blowing smoke and self-gratifying self-importance. I said I don't want to sit and pontificate about "the turn" in writing poems because I barely learned about it 24 hours before. What in the world would I have to say, or even need to say?

I don't need that. I want to learn, not to be a show off. I think if I get a chance on another MOOC, maybe go back to Coursera, which has a much better platform, I still want to pursue this.

They probably didn't like that I signed off by saying: "Well, I'm going to stop now because it's a waste of my time, since none of you will read this anyway, just like for the past two weeks no one has read any of my assignments or posts." I know it may sound like a kid taking his marbles home, but it was getting to be 13th grade all over, with cliques, and students posting the same assignment at two different spots.

Anyway, that's what happened today.

DR Dan M, DC Minny is not with you these days?

No, ever since I was hospitalized he's been living on my friends' farm. DC Minny still remembers me when I talk with him on the phone and, of course, when I am there in person. I would love to have him back here, but it would break my heart even more to take him away from what he's become accustomed to. I can't do that to him. It would be selfish to move him from the country back to a small apartment.

I may get another kitty. After my upcoming surgery, provided that all goes A-OK, I may look into getting another cat. I would like that.

I hope you're able to do that.

George, I did it using the same thing I sent you (different code, though) and it worked fine - be sure you're putting in that exact number with the five zeroes.  Otherwise I can send you another code.  Or were you able to get to the download part and then it didn't work.  I got it into iBooks on my iPad just fine.

I copied the code directly, so I wouldn't make a mistake in retyping the code.  Otherwise, I was able to download it onto my Kindle with no problem.  That process worked, but when I opened it up, I got the title at the top of the screen, and the progress bar at the bottom saying I was at 5%, and the rest of the screen where the text should be was completely blank.  I couldn't page forward or back.  After about 10 seconds or so, it would kick me out to my list of book titles with this error message:
Quote
The selected item could not be opened. If you purchased this item from Amazon, delete the item and redownload it from Archived Items available in Home. (close)

I would click on the "close" button, the message would go away, and that would be it.  I tried deleting the file and I redownloaded it, but it did the same thing.  I am just about to send a message to them in their "Contact Us" page with the same information.
