Well, you've read the notes, the notes returned to the valley of the normal world, and now it is time for you to post until the return of the cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ETERNIZE!
-
Yesterday was a day of me pretty much doing nothing. I did take a shower and go out to eat, but otherwise I only did one load of laundry.
However, I did read my physical book of "Murder at the Hollywood Division"! After going to Taco Del Mar, I came home and starting reading. I read the whole book and only stopped a couple of times! HERE (http://www.amazon.com/review/R3FO7DQJVEZSJ6/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm) is my review on Amazon.

Regarding last night's posts: Scott Bakula did do SHENANDOAH in 2006, in which he was reportedly quite excellent.

TOD:
I was 5 years old when Sesame Street first started to air on public television. I vaguely remember the hoopla about it at the time, and I believe that I did watch it then, though probably not regularly.

Good morning, all! It's going to be a hot day today, and so I will run over to Tams-Witmark very shortly, drop off this Golden Apple score and parts, and head home ASAP. That finishes up this project.
I first met Mr Bakula around 1981 or 82; he had just returned t Manhattan after playing Domenique ("Proud Lady") in the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park production of The Baker's Wife. He was also in Marilyn and Is There Life After High School?
And I have to catch a bus.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Hope everyone is feeling better. I haven't read any of the previous posts for the last few days (and I most likely won't). It's been very, very busy at the office and we were on LI for the Memorial Day weekend so I didn't check in at all.
Good vibes to everyone.

DR Michael says that he has developed pancreatitis. :'(

And the word of the day is: ETERNIZE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: FOREVER YOUNG

Or perhaps THIS was the REAL reason...

Monday Tuesday morning greetings! In half an hour I will accompany Richard to a routine medical check-up that includes fasting blood work. We'll go out for brunch afterwards.
-
Good morning, all.
Monday Tuesday, indeed. It was already seeming like it would be like that yesterday, as I continually thought it felt like a Sunday.
-
...

I'm pretty sure we saw that...

TOD:
To this day, I've never seen an episode or a movie of SESAME STREET or MUPPETS. These never held any interest for me. For AVENUE Q last fall, I figured out or had explained to me a few obvious references, all of which were amusing and worth knowing, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that others are still flying right over my head.
-
Vibes for DR MICHAEL.....
-
Glad to hear that MR BK is feeling better. Life goes on.
I have replaced Miss Fern in BAD SEED, so DR VIXMOM and DR GINNY can relax. I am still looking for a Kenneth, but I will probably put the stage manager in for him. He is in the first scene and the last scene, so that will work.
Tonight I am taking a few publicity photos for Seven Brides for Seven Brothers in order to meet the deadlines for the weekly publications.
-
My sister Molly was born in 1971, so she was a Sesame Street kid....I would watch it with her now and then.....
I was not a regular viewer of the MUPPET show, so I will have to see what everyone else lists as favorite episodes.....
-
TOD: My younger brother and sisters were toddlers just as Sesame Street and MisterRogers started, so I "had" to watch it while babysitting them. I got to watch the shows from the very beginning. The fact that I continued to watch those shows (and got other adults to watch the shows) even after I moved out of the house is of no concern here. And then I started watching Sesame Street again when I would babysit my niece and nephews.
-
And I am home from Tams-Witmark! The entire errand took me a little under two hours. I am havng a little breakfast, then I will begin the laundry and my carton search.
-
Good morning, all.
Wish I could wake up more fully.
Vibes for BK, Michael Shayne and anyone else in need.
-
TOD:
I love the original Muppet Movie and the more recent one with Amy Adams joining the Muppets.
As for the TV show, which was a favorite because of the special guests (Madeline Kahn, Ethel, Liza), I was surprised at how good Garth Brooks was. He was the most natural performer with them, and he really made fun of himself and that weird Chris Gaines alter ego he had back then.
I was a little old for Sesame Street by the time we had a TV set.
-

I wouldn't be taking such a laid back attitude about this, DR Jrand64. You might do well to cast these ladies as understudies. One never knows...

GOOD HEALTH VIBES TO ALL!!!!

Here's a fun photo show of places in San Francisco that have been captured on film but are no longer in existence.

You are probably correct DR CHAS SMITH
-
His track record is pretty good. :)
-
We are back from Richard's uneventful doctor's appointment, a nice brunch at Cracker Barrel, and a little grocery shopping. First thing we did when we got home was close the windows and turn on the AC, because it's so-o-o-o-o humid.

Well, he can try...
-
I too have turned on the AC, and I finally was able to put the laundry into the washers 25 minutes ago. A rather eccentric fifth floor neighbor had them tied up all morning.
On my way out this morning, I posted a note by the mailboxes that I was abandoning a 4-drawer filing cabinet soon, should anyone want it, and i've had an offer from another peculiar fifth floor neighbor to take it.

DR Michael says that he has developed pancreatitis. :'(
Prayers for recovery to DR Michael! No more complications, just vibes for fast recovery!

A classic Grover as waiter sketch. Grover is Frank Oz, of course:

I'm up, I'm up. Not quite seven hours of sleep. Feeling almost better, I think, although it's hard to tell in the mornings. Lunch is twelve-thirty, so I have a bit more time than I thought.
-
My daughter loved Sesame Street and knew all its songs. For me, that's where the show excelled - original songs that were not only kid-friendly, but well-written and friendly to adults and didn't really pander. I credit a lot of that to Joe Raposo, who was a terrific songwriter.
-
TOD - Our son Rob was a SESAME STREET kid. In fact, he "graduated" from pre-school the day Jim Henson died. One of our favorite characters was The Count. On THE MUPPET SHOW, I always liked the Swedish Chef.
-
I think I need a nap after waking up before 7 this morning. In my dream, I was being chased by 3 black dogs and, no matter how loud I screamed, no one would help me. Richard says he didn't hear me screaming, but I had no interest in going back to sleep...

My first LP was the first Sesame Street album, which I have a copy here (not my old copy unfortunately).

Yikes!
~~~Quicker Recovery Vibes for Michael!!~~~
For many years, the ABC 4:30 Movie theme was thought to have been written by Joe Raposo, but that may not be the case. For those who may not remember, it was a nifty short animation with dramatic music, appropriate for the telecasting of a former blockbuster or great B-movie, or on weekends (with a variant of the animation), cheesy horror classics:
I always thought the Muppets was the best thing on tv.
Grover's version of "Singin' in the Rain":
Beeker's Ode to Joy:
Muppet Show performance of Piero Umiliani's "Mahna-Mahna". One of Jim Henson's favorite pieces, which may have been first performed on The Ed Sullivan Show, as The Muppets were semi-regulars. Ironically, the song is from "Sweden Heaven and Hell" which is a 1960s pseudo-documentary about sexual freedoms in Sweden, so it's just a disguise for a nudie-cutie flick for 42nd St. theaters.
Here's the 1969 version from Sesame Street:
The classic Sesame Street animation of The Pinball Countdown sung by The Pointer Sisters (sometime from the Seventies):
Sally Cruikshank's animation for "Above It All". She may have worked with Talking Heads, not sure:
One of the most fun songs, the "La La La" song with Bert and Ernie (where I first learned of linoleum):
A classic Bert and Ernie, when Ernie has to count things in order to fall asleep, hilarity ensues, and a textbook Bert reaction courtesy of Frank Oz:
The original counting song, great song that I still remember, with a typical kid's joke at the end:
I'm pretty sure that Joe Raposo wrote this theme, a classic show in its own right, take notice of the cast:
Always liked TELEPHONE ROCK which was written by Christopher Cerf and Norman Stiles in the style of Elton John, I think:
The "Sign Song" from The Electric Company. I still remember it. Clips of 1970s NYC.
-
One of the great collaborations between Tom Lehrer and Joe Raposo, "Silent E":
-
Another song cowritten by Joe Raposo and Tom Lehrer, "N Apostrophe T":
Couldn't find the credit for this song, which was a favorite on the original The Electric Company, "My Broken Down Bronco Bruce" as sung by Skip Hinnant:
-
A classic Raposo, "Clang Clunk Clatter Click Clink Clank Clippety-Clop" from The Electric Company. This would be fun to sing:
Those peanut butter cookies arrived and are they delicious! I can die happy.
They were packed in two one-pound boxes containing 16 cookies each. I'll give one box to Rob Berman on Friday at the PAINT YOUR WAGON recording session.
Yum!
I always thought the Muppets was the best thing on tv.
I LOVED The Muppet Show! I never really watched Sesame Street, though.
Back from lunch meeting - really fun and I know have a little DVD to watch of the new production of An American in Paris :)
-
But mostly I'm hoping some very good things can come of this lunch.
My bootleg seller is offering that DVD for sale this month!
BK, how are you feeling today?
Feeling a bit better today and hope it continues. My star is over her cold but has given it to her mother who hopefully won't give it back to my star or me. Will have to start up with my Airborne preventative.
-
I shall shortly be on my way to rehearsal. I'll pick up packages first, should there be any. And elmore ought to post here the sound clip he posted on Facebook.
Greetings from Wisconsin!
Hello, new D(ear)R(eader) bigbuck! Welcome to HHW! Tell us a little about yourself.
-
Welcome, DR bigbuck!
Health vibes for DR Matthew.
I was born in Egypt, but moved to Winconsin in 1995, so life wasn't that bad for me. My names Billy, I have a wife but she's long gone, and I have one child, an 18 year old just finishing up high school. He loves golfing and so do I.
What I wouldn't do without an excellent guy I'm proud to live with, and proud to be with him in my life. His name is Joey, he has recently been in a 40 mile run with a bunch of people.
Life is good around here.
Well, a couple of weeks ago, I bought a recording of Bock and Harnick's Body Beautiful (http://www.soundofmusic-shop.de/s01.php?&sp=en&cur=eur&ag=1&pp=aa&bnr=15290), the "Authors' Demos and "Cover" Recordings" (on Original Cast Records) from www.soundofmusic-shop.de. It arrived today, but what I got was a plain CD-R with color-photocopied booklet and jewel case artwork. That wouldn't be so bad if they had advertised it as such (and didn't charge so much). But the worst part is is that the CD is only one track! It's a single 1 hour, 19 minute and 59 second track! WTF?? I sent an e-mail through the website asking about it, so I'll have to wait to see if I even get a response.
Does anyone else have this CD? Is it a burned CD-R like I got, or did you get a legitimate pressed CD with printed (not photocopied) artwork?
:P, I say! :P
-
On the plus side of things that I received today (I can't believe that these all showed up on the same day), I got the London cast recording of Dames At Sea (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X6GAPD2/) (this is a CD-R, but it's advertised as such, and the artwork is printed, not photocopied), the new Broadway cast recording of On the 20th Century (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V8Q8QTW/), the DVD to the French production of Follies (http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00S8KTOFG), and the Blu-ray to Les Parapluies de Cherbourg - Version Symphonique (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00UXBUP2O)!
And that's the end of my birthday money. :D
-
So, did they officially change the name to "On the 20th Century," instead of "On the Twentieth Century"? Or was someone just too lazy to type out "Twentieth" instead of "20th"?
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryEjm3k6uY0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryEjm3k6uY0) This is one of my favorites from the Muppet Movie. It's after Gonzo was in a balloon, can't remember very well, but I think it was an out of control kind of balloon ride. I just love this song
I used to have the earlier OTTC with Imogene Coca, Madeline Kahn and John Cullum. I loved when the commercials for the Broadway run would run back in the late 1970s (I think).
Don't like that. The new cover doesn't have the class or suggest the era as well as the original art, IMO.
-
There's not a word yet, for old friends who've just met... I've always liked that
-
I was a little too old for Sesame Street. I did see it from time to time, especially when at friends' houses when their sisters or brothers were watching it. I loved the Muppet Show.
Hello and welcome, DR bigbuck. Have you ever been back to Egypt to visit since you came to live in the U.S.?
Too many wonderful clips here today! I am going to have to try to find time to watch at least some of them. But that time isn't right now. :P
Hi DR Bigbuck! Where do you live in Wisconsin?
I have to be up at the crack of dawn tomorrow to pick up a co-worker and then drive an hour (plus) south of here for a healthcare enrollment event.
In Owatonna.
Owatonna isn't as fun to say as Okoboji.
I did get the York recording a couple of weeks ago, that's why I got this CD of demos. I really like that kind of thing, but I was surprised with the fact that I was sent what was essentially a bootleg copy...not that I haven't shared things like that myself ::) but should they be sold like this?
I always wanted a copy of Coleman's record titled something like "Playboy At Night" from the old TV show. I also missed obtaining a copy of what was released from the series. It was the "upscale" show with jazz legends and continued the James Bond type vibe of the era, with lots of Hef's friends as collateral stars on episodes.
Jane, no soreness from the accident? Are you 100%?
One nice bit in this Coleman tribute is that Sheldon Harnick mentioned Randy Graff's CD that BK produced.
It might have been years ago, but sadly not now. I got it from Elmore's bootleg suppliers.
Watching a nice tribute to Cy Coleman. So far, Lucie Arnaz, Neil Simon, Chita Rivera and James Naughton have been on. Really good stuff.
I always wanted a copy of Coleman's record titled something like "Playboy At Night" from the old TV show. I also missed obtaining a copy of what was released from the series. It was the "upscale" show with jazz legends and continued the James Bond type vibe of the era, with lots of Hef's friends as collateral stars on episodes.
I believe a CD version is available on Amazon. I have it on my Wish List.
Thanks John! I found it. That's the one I used to see as an LP when I was in college. There were two really quirky used book stores in the college town. One was in the upper floors of a kind of brown stone building. The guy who ran it had the name Pepper, and he was a shh-quiet-don't talk above a whisper-type. Being college guys, we naturally nicknamed him "Sgt. Pepper". He had the better organized of the two shops. I found lots of good stuff there, and he had a decent LP selection, much more eclectic than could be found at the "record" stores' used sections.
The other used book store was far more jumbled and ragtag. The guy who ran/owned it was a member of the band McKendree Spring. Persistence paid rewards though if you had time enough to search his shelves. The biggest difference was that unlike Sgt. Pepper, this book store had a wide selection of book conditions, from barely held together to barely used. I did find some good stuff here. His prices were good for a college student who made $7/hr. or whatever was the least amount per hour, considering that I worked maybe 10-15 hours a week.
Hello, everyone.
And hello from my newly refurbished Macbook.
Jane, no soreness from the accident? Are you 100%?
Thank you for asking. I'm still sore but improving. 100% is never going to happen-lol. I am slowly returning to my normal but need to get off this bed before it will happen.
LOL. We were rear ended a few nights ago just sitting at a stop light. It wasn't too hard. Aside from a mild headache Keith was fine. My already sore body felt it more. I'm getting better :)
Vibes, I've had that happen twice in my life and it's no fun, I got whiplash both times
Changing our prescription insurance from Oregon to Washington was one big pain. We sat in the car about an hour doing it on the phone. The only difference between what we had and now have is the state. What was involved to change was ridiculous.
Here's a 1940 version of "Lil' Abner" with Buster Keaton, also seems to have Doodles Weaver (Sigourney's uncle I think). The main title song is co-written by among others Milton Berle (?):
Vixmom....vibes to you, sounds like a workers comp claim to me
-
Thanks Cilla. I've had it happen so many times I can't remember how many. I could if I wasn't so tired but I don't want to. My back & neck hurt some but it has just aggravated what is there, no whiplash fortunately. I think if I had it I would know by now.
Vibes to anyone else I have missed wishing vibes to. Other than painting and workin I don't know exactly what I've been doing.
I remember the used record stores and a few used book stores back in college, still the only types of stores I enjoy going to anymore. One was large and had a strange collection of cast albums, which I, of course, bought whenever I could afford one. The other was a hippie/lesbian/book store/record store/head shop/whatever we need to sell to stay afloat kind of place. Never bought a great deal there, but the guy in charge of the record part was named Bear, and we got along well. For some reason, he and my sister got into a violent fight, though I never heard what that was about. Haven't thought about him in more than 30 years. Oy, what the mind will dredge up when it is tired.
The classic with Pia Zadora and Ned Wertimer (the Jeffersons' doorman), replete with infectious (like a brain virus) theme song by The Gong Show's Milton DeLugg (and the Band with a Thud) and trumpet by Al Hirt:
(Yes, it is laughably bad, but the director was a veteran of the show "Naked City", and the movie was shot on the site of what is known as Roosevelt Field Mall on Long Island. Many of the "unknown" actors were NY actors, either stage or daytime TV, some had appeared on "Naked City".)
Here's one to make up for the last post. REMBRANDT starring Charles Laughton in a movie by Alexander Korda. Quite a good biopic with a great Laughton performance:
Thank you DR John.
After tonight's song rehearsal I bopped over to Jerry's Deli and had a turkey sandwich - so two sandwiches in one day and no hint of nausea makes BK a happy boy.
Great news! I'm very happy you are feeling better. It's so good to get back to eating normally again.
