Well, you've read the notes, the notes were long-forgotten and starred me, and now it is time for you to post until the long-forgotten cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FLOCCINAUCINIHILIPILIFICATION!
Smoke on your pipe and put that in!
-
Good morning, gentle DRs.
-
Nothing new to report since last evening.
-
Sorry to have been E &T. The real estate closing shift are booming as schools close for the year everybody wants to close and move before the 4th of July as they all have planned can huge parties at the houses they don't yet own
-
Do they invite me to join them in their swanky new 2nd home in the hamptons for a celebratory barbecue?
-
No, they do not
-
Do they invite me to drop in to their Central Park west penthouse for afternoon tea?
-
No, they do not
-
Their loss, DR vixmom. It seems to me that you'd be the highlight of any party you were invited to.
-
One thing I have discovered in this job is that there is a lot today money out there
-
And I don't have any of it
-
In my next life I will stay in school and become a physician, or a stock broker or a medical insurance executive
-
So how are all of you?
-
Elmore, if you truly do not have a home for the binder and paper cutter and have no need of them yourself would you be willing to donate them to my church?
-
Congratulations to George on 50,000 posts!
-
Well I should be going. Generally I have already been at work by this time. But I actually left last night with no crises on my desk and my closing packages for today completed
-
What the hey maybe I'll only get to work an hour early instead of the usual 90 minutes. Maybe I'll leave on time at 5:30
-
Maybe I'll sprout wings and fly away
-
Learned yesterday the co-worker that has been out since early Nivember and was to be back in January has another 3 weeks before she meets with her physician for an evaluation as to whether she will be allowed to return to work.
-
I sympathize strongly with her health issues but this continuous" I'll be back in 3 weeks" kept the boss from hiring a replacement
-
Sorry I am starting the day with whining and complaining
-
:-*
Their loss, DR vixmom. It seems to me that you'd be the highlight of any party you were invited to.
:-*
-
Congratulation to Elmore on the new door opening may it lead to a long term and satisfying employment
-
Bk it has been most interesting hearing about the putting together of the Sami show. I look forward to hearing about future developments. What was her feeling about the evening?
-
Where is Ben this morning?
-
Where is Elmore?
-
chas I am drinking coffee with vanilla caramel creamer....delicious!
-
Have a lovely day one and all
-
And also all and one

Don't leave us hanging at post #29, DR Vixmom! :)

Nice idea, vixmom. Perhaps the binder and cutter can transition to more leisurely work on the Giland.
Binder and Cutter, Attorneys at Law.
-
good morning to all

off to PT
-
an evening of pain and discomfort. Painkiller did not work
-
Sorry for the bitching
-
Good morning, all! I had to sleep in. I am exhausted. The trip to Toyland is about an hour on a good day and I am tired of schlepping down there every day and waiting around while people come to take things. Now that I have no computer, it's even more boring and frustrating hanging out there.
Today, I will go in shortly and see the photocopier go off to the building's super. What I really want is to get this office evacuation off my back. At his point, it's an irritation wearing me down.
-
DRs vixmom and ChasSmith, the binder and paper cutter are fine here. I just need to put them away. Thanks for your offers.
-
Good Morning. It's supposed to be cloudy later-- I can't wait!

Getting off work on time vibes for DR VIXMOM.

I think DR LAURA had met Ginger from RuPaul's Drag Race...the contestant who should have won....
-
What did you win for first place in the talent contest, MR BK?
-
Yes, I am finding that BAD SEED (the title of the script) plays much better than it reads. I have about 3/4's of a very good cast....so I have a bit of work to do....
7 B 4 7 B opens tonight.....on Sunday the tempi were all v e r y
s l o w and I guess that's the way it's going to be.....whew! It seems to be more of a challenge stroll than a challenge dance....but it is still fun.

Me neither. Bummer.

TOD:
From age five to ten I lived in a cul-de-sac across the street from my best friend who was only six months older than me. I think the most fun adventure I had with her was spending a week with her relatives in San Diego and learning to ride a horse for the first time. I'd never done anything so exhilarating and enjoyable as riding a horse. But honestly, my strongest memory of our activities together is watching The Partridge Family on her little black and white TV in her bedroom. Naturally, her parents wanted to watch something else on the big color TV in the living room. But we didn't care, we enjoyed it just as much on her TV. Every week, we just couldn't wait - it was big deal back in the day of no VCRs, DVDs, or DVRs.
-
CRANBERRIES!
-
And I don't have any of it
Me neither. Bummer.
Okay, so, if DR vixmom doesn't have it...
and DR John G. doesn't have it,...
and I most assuredly don't have it...
WHO'S GOT THE MONEY?!
-
Don't look at me.
-
:)
-
And, while we're at it...
Who let the dogs out?
-
Do they invite me to join them in their swanky new 2nd home in the hamptons for a celebratory barbecue?
They should.
-
We really lucked out with our realtor though she is not the first one to take me on fun excursions after we moved in. Her husband, our contractor, is equally great.
-
Tuesday she took me to the newcomer's meeting and Monday we will be hiking with her and the Monday hiking group. They are only going for an easy 4 mile hike. The Friday group, which I hope to do one day, goes for a more strenuous 9 mile hike.
-
This may be it for the day. I have very little computer time and owe tons of emails which I don't know when I will get to. I only average 2-4 chapters of reading a day.
-
DR Elmore:
Do you know what was used for harpsichord and organ in the original "1776"?
Could this be another RMI/Rocksichord situation?
-
Another hellish morning: long wait for the 104 bus, so my trip took 90 minutes; and in the 30 minutes I waited for one of the three No. 7 uptown buses scheduled for 11:32, 11:42, and 11:52 to arrive, only one did, and it was packed. I had to wait another 10 minutes for the next. Then, traffic was so awful it took a 30 minutes to get from 27th Street to 34th.
At the office, the super and a co-worker came by, pulled a lot of electronics, a window fan, miscellanea, and other supplies. Joshie is set to arrive on Tuesday morning, and Chelsea Music is coming by on Saturday. I will be greatly relieved when this madness is over.
-

I haven't seen the full scores, but i'm guessing an RMI rocksichord.

TOD:
In elementary school my best friend, Butch, and I would experiment with his dad's Super 8. His dad worked for Bell & Howell, so their house was full of these products, many cameras and something that was like a filmstrip projector with a record player. At that time, Willie Mosconi and Minnesota Fats were all over TV, and Butch's family had a pool table. So, I learned how to play pool. Never once did I rip the felt, either!
The best thing we used to do was my little playlets. We'd all gather up anything that could be a character, dolls, toys, stuffed animals. I'd get all the playsets and doll furniture and other "props". These I would rig with thread so that it looked like the doll puppet was making things open or move. Or, if we were going for a dramatic crash or earthquake effect, as Bela Lugosi might say, I'd pull the strings. I had to have voices, so many of my friends would play parts, and I had to have music and effects. Those I would play on the portable record player. I loved sound effects records and had a few. One was given to me by the school librarian who was thinning out their records. It was full of sound effects that I played over and over to try to tell which were real and which were created. If I thought they were created sounds, I would think of how those sounds could have been made. My playlets were really improvised, but we'd come up with stuff that was so hysterical. Later, I would write what I later learned was a scenario, and we'd improvise off of that. This was all in elementary school.
When I got into high school, I did a video project which I had fully scripted and used sound effects and music, but this was all done live to tape. No editing or fancy stuff as we didn't have that equipment. It was my version of how everyone kept bothering Betsy Ross and coming up with ludicrous ideas for a flag. We had a lot of fun with that.
-
TOD: Part the Second:
Also in elementary school, I think Third Grade, I would collaborate with my friend Joe, in creating these little books. I guess it was our version of the Golden Books, but funnier. My friends and I all loved Looney Tunes, Tex Avery and Mad magazine, so we thought we knew funny stuff. Joe was good at drawing so he's pick sections of the story he liked and drew them. After we thought up a story, I'd write it with dialogue and so on. I guess I was the letterer and he was the graphics guy. Our teacher encouraged what we did, and when we exhausted this phase, I think we had maybe 10 or so books, made out of craft paper, construction paper, lined paper, oaktag, whatever the classroom had. The assistant principal was a nice lady, but she lost our books. Since I was only 7 or 8 I never really knew all the details, but I remember her saying she was sending some to Johnny Carson because he used to show school kids' things. I don't know if that ever happened. All I know is that the books went missing, lost for all time. When I was older, she was still working at the elementary school, and I asked her. All she could say was that she was sorry and didn't remember what happened to those books. I was mad, but what could I do. She seemed well-intentioned, but I didn't know any better.
-
Enjoyed the notes on '1776', BK.
I think I'm most stunned at the difference in running time between stage show and movie, both played straight through. Half an hour!?
Fortunately, there is plenty to love. But man oh man...
-
Thanks to the wonderful transfer, this bit of trivia revealed itself to me last night:
In Jefferson's room, his music stand holds -- not a piece by J.S. Bach, or any violin work at all, but a page of vocal parts to "Sit Down, John".
-
Break a leg, Jrand!

TOD: Part the Third (Epilogue):
With what I've written, you'd think I would have gone into something creative. I didn't unfortunately. Another hint cropped up in college. I was working at that time in the student union as a food server/kitchen help. I hated it but there weren't any "good" jobs left that semester. My way to get through the drudgery and dealing with spoiled brat kids (ahem, fellow students) was to joke around, do impressions and just riff off of what others had said. I defused many potentially bad situations because some of these students really acted horribly as spoiled kids are wont to do.
One of my co-workers, he was a slightly older student. I may have been a sophomore and he was either a senior in a 4 year program or he was in an accelerated 5 year program. In any event, he was working on his thesis, but it was a project for the MFA in which he was learning how to be a director. This fellow, I don't remember his name, but I’ll call him Len, really liked me and said I was perfect for being the star in his "production". My best friend at that time was also my roommate and he said I should try it, what the heck. Len’s instructor was David Feldshuh, the brother of Tovah Feldshuh, so the name rang a bell, but I didn't have any context at the time to understand everything. I tried to beg off many times, but Len would have none of that.

They were meta before meta was even trendy!!!

I am sorry you don't have access to those old "books," DR Dan M. What fun they would be to reminisce over!

Back from Uncle Bernie's deli in Encino. This took over Froman's there. I'd eaten at this place once before with Barry Pearl, and I remembered it being good - but I was just kind of grossed out by it this time so shan't be back. I had a sky high pastrami with cole slaw and russian dressing but it was just heavy and weird. Had some kishka on the side - it was good but the gravy was terrible, so I only ate a little of it, but I feel like I've eaten three meals instead of one.

Trouble connecting today. Anyone else having that problem?
Yup...earlier, I couldn't get on HHW for about 15 or 20 minutes. :-\
And I only had the problem on HHW. It all seems to be okay now.
-
Trouble connecting today. Anyone else having that problem?
Yes. Sometimes can't get on HHW. Sometimes through link at Kritzerland. Sometimes not at all.

Here's the epilogue to the epilogue (couldn't post it earlier due to website problem?):
Len’s play was theater of the absurd with no props and no scenery. I had never acted, knowingly anyway. Len gave me a crash course for about 10 days. I learned the script. I was the show. Len had an offstage sort of narration, but other than that, he couldn't give me any clues or shown to be coaching me. I guess it was part of what he had to prove to Professor Feldshuh as his final project/thesis. We were the last to go on. I was very nervous and for some reason when I get like that (or maybe at that time) I would go into another register of my voice, deeper for some reason, but something just took over and it got me through my fear. Anyway, it must have worked because I later learned that Len received an A and received special notice from the professor given that I was a "raw talent" that he shaped for his play. I found out that everyone else used acting students in their projects.
I had very low self-esteem in those days. As an example, I was taking a fencing class; never had I fenced before. Each time, the instructor (with the perfect last name, Gillette) would make me come up front and use me a demonstration partner. I thought he was picking on me. What turned out later was that I was reacting perfectly to his moves, although I was using moves we didn't learn yet. I just thought I stunk at it. If only I had thought positively, who knows what could have happened?
Anyway, back to the MFA project. After Professor Feldshuh evaluated Len’s project in front of everyone, it was my turn, and I dreaded it. I was like, I'm no actor, I have no right to be here. I braced for the worst. But, the professor said that I was quite good especially that I really was raw to begin with. He even said that I should contact him and change my major, etc. It all sounded great, but being shy and low on self-esteem, I enjoyed the spotlight, but quickly shrunk back to the wallpaper. After the fact, I found out that such praise coming from David Feldshuh did mean something and that was a serious offer, but at that time I was far too dense to appreciate and understand. I could've been in theater, or something.
Now, I have this second chance at life. Maybe I need to revisit these brief forays into creative fields. It's always been there, I was just too stupid to see what has always been right in front of me.
-
I am sorry you don't have access to those old "books," DR Dan M. What fun they would be to reminisce over!
All I have left is a vague memory.

Had some kishka on the side -
A Little Kishka on the Side - sounds like it should be a line from something

Kishka involves intestines, so i steer clear of it.

Trouble connecting today. Anyone else having that problem?
Yes. I did around 4:00 EST. I could not log on for about an hour.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
I had a long lunch with my friend Jan today. That was nice. She is conveniently taking a yoga class each week at the YMCA across the street from a restaurant I frequent. When we walked in today, the guy at the counter looked at me and said, "Veggie burger?" No, today I had the tilapia on fresh kale and spinach. Actually, I was there yesterday and had the veggie burger.

I was able to read the Notes earlier, but couldn't access the posts. Strange server hang-ups.

Trouble posting again. But why is it letting me now but not a moment ago??

Perhaps you could charge a commission, a percentage of the sales price of the property. While you're at it, fire your boss and make your own hours.

Nice idea, vixmom. Perhaps the binder and cutter can transition to more leisurely work on the Giland.
Binder and Cutter, Attorneys at Law.
Wouldn't that be nice. Vixmom could be an entry-penewer.

I snuck up on that last one and it took.

DR Dan M, I enjoyed your early theatrical story. I do feel you should explore some creative pursuits. Full-time or part-time. I think it would enrich your life.
Of course, posting on HHW is a creative pursuit. :)
Even more so when your posts post.

My favorite Boynton is the one of the two cats. One cat says to the other, "If I had two dead rats I'd give you one." Such love!

Finally! I tried to made that last post about 6 or 7 times.

Echoing DR Jeanne, I had a dental appointment today...
You see, over Memorial Day weekend I became convinced that there might be a problem with my last molar on the upper left. My 6-month check-up is scheduled for June 16, but that's the day before I leave for 2 weeks in California and I didn't want to wait in case something like a crown was needed. So, I called at 9am on May 26, explained the situation, and was told today (June 4) was the soonest they could see me.
Sure enough, the tooth and the old filling in it are both cracked and he wants to put a crown on it. Suddenly, it's a big, hairy scheduling problem because I want the work completed before I leave on vacation. I stood my ground and pointed out that if I hadn't had to wait a week and a half for today's appointment there wouldn't be such a tight time frame. I have an appointment first thing Monday morning...

Good evening. I have been out of town for a while.
John G., I know Ginger.
Waaaay back, many many years ago, when we fostered cats and kittens, we ran out of names for them. So pretty much everyone we knew got a cat/kitten named after him/her. A feral white and black kitten came in for me to tame, and he was named Joshie. Said kitten growled at everyone at adoptions because he wanted to come home to me. So he came home and has been a happy lap cat ever since.
So Joshie is named after Ginger, whom I met in some theater forum somewhere on the innerwebs when he was a still a teen, I believe. My son worked for an airline at the time, so for the price of a motel room, I was able to fly out to see him perform in his community theater. He is very talented.
He's playing Franknfurter. Should be fun.

Thursday evening greetings!
Trouble connecting today. Anyone else having that problem?
Yes, that's why I'm not here until almost 9pm!
Better late than never!
-
Good evening, everyone.
Back, from wherever in the hell I was.
And yes, same here, couldn't access the sites for probably close to an hour this afternoon.
-
Is anybody there?
Does anybody care?
Does anybody see what I see?
-
Well, it is kind of late here on the right coast, and I should be calling it a night.
"It is a night."
There. See? I did it.
-
My posts aren't posting.
-
It is late and I am tired, but I wanted to post this before I forget it.
DR Dan M, do you know about Ira Progoff and his Intensive Journal process? I think it would interest you. He died some years ago, but others carry on his work. If you have the opportunity to attend one of the Intensive Journal workshops, do so. (They're often on university campuses.) If not, then the book, At A Journal Workshop will suffice. It's a way to get in touch with your creative side, and is especially good for writers, I think.
-
Finally!
Adios.
-
We were down for a bit - all is well now.
-
Finished with my viewing and my viewing is finished.
-
We really lucked out with our realtor though she is not the first one to take me on fun excursions after we moved in. Her husband, our contractor, is equally great.
Your realtor and her husband have a very convenient and complementary arrangement. Does she specialize in homes that need considerable work?
No, and some people might not have felt this needed work. I think they agreed with us about the changes we wanted to make. It was livable as it was but it was best to do things that would soon need doing before we moved in.
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
Listening to the original cast album of 1776.
-
Today in the mail, I got a renewal notice for my cat's license. :(
-
It was actually the 2nd notice. The first one was just a few weeks after my cat died. I set it aside (the notice) and forgot about it. I just e-mailed them, saying that I wasn't going to renew.
-
I hope that that's good enough. I don't think I need to waste a stamp for that bit of information. We'll see if they respond.
-
Get me off this damn page.
-
And on a happier note...one of my DVD burners crapped out on me at the end of April (this isn't the happier note part) and I eventually took it to a local repair shop. I knew that this shop was more expensive than other places, but I really didn't know of any other local shops and I wanted to get it fixed...my TV was still working at this point. Anyway, I took it in on May 6 (I still had the paperwork) and I've been waiting all this time to hear from them. I finally called them today and the guy said, "Yeah, we've got it right here. It'll be $122.40."
-
:o $122.40?? I didn't think it would cost that much! I think my surprise came across in my voice when I said "Thanks" and that I'd come pick it up in a bit. I went at my lunch time to pick it up and when they brought it out, I said that I never got a call or anything from them saying how much it would cost before they did the actual work, and that I don't think I would've had it done if I had known that it would've cost that much (they really didn't call and I really don't think that I would've have had it done for that much).
-
The guy was VERY apologetic and said that that wasn't the way that they do business. They always call people and he would make it right. He typed a bit on his computer and then looked at me and said, "$32.64."
-
Again, I was shocked...but in a good way! "Really?" I asked. He said that that was the minimum that they would charge (with tax) if they inspected a device and let a person know how much the work would cost, but the person said no. I said a big, genuine, "Thanks!" and paid right then. He was very nice and I think he knew how grateful that I was for that. He even carried the DVD burner to my car.
Now THAT'S customer service! :D
-
So, now I have my two DVD burners again, but only one TV...for now.
-
So...
-
...why wait?? ;)

This is the model of the DVD burner that I have...actually, I have two of these. They don't make them anymore. I bought both of mine used on eBay.
-
My co-worker who told me about them actually has four, herself. And two are new in the boxes! She's going to keep them as long as she can.
