Title: RECONSIDERING MY DICTUM
Post by: bk on October 13, 2004, 12:05:02 AM
Well, you've read the notes, you now know all you ever need to know about my dictum and now it is time to post until the cows come home or, at the very least, until the cows have reconsidered their various and sundried dictums.

Friends calling late on the night of our first anniversary?

This could only mean some sort of publicity coup.

(in reply to a post from yesterday)

Dear DR Dear Reader Laura:

I'm fully aware that we'll end up with more lads and lassies on our hands than we're planning.  That seems to be part of the scheme of things, when fostering dogs.  Or cats.  Or humans, from what I hear.

Der B is already working on the problem.  He's observed the others in the pet rescue group, and has noted that, while they're very good at getting the pets out of bad situations, they're not very good at finding new, good situations for them.

He figures that a lot of this has to do with public awareness.  People don't know how to contact the rescue group, or worse don't know the group exists.

To this end, he's proposing that we take dogs out with us, sort of on display.  He's looking into getting us sweatshirts with logos on them, and bandannas for the dogs that say "Adopt Me!" on them.  He's also trying to get good photos of all the dogs, that we can print up and keep in a book, so people will know that there are more dogs out there than just the ones we've brought with us.

Once we get going, there's newspapers to contact, and to keep in contact on a regular basis.

The other part of the problem is screening the perspective owners.  Some of the people in the rescue group are, well, shall we call them anal over-protective?  Sure, I understand not wanting to hand a dog over to someone who just wants to keep it chained in a yard, or to someone who will abuse the animal.  But the grilling that der B and I went through from one of the rescue people bordered on the intrusive.  (Fortunately, the woman who came to check out the home environment was very easy to get along with, and we stop by her store regularly to chat about how things are going.)

It was supposedly shipped on Saturday.  We shall see.  If it doesn't arrive by Friday, they get another negative, and I apply for a refund from paypal, which will get them kicked off that service.

Countdown to 70,000 posts - a mere 140 or so to go - could happen this very day, say I.

I just finished watching YOU WERE NEVER LOVELIER, and Rita Hayworth and Fred Astaire kissed several times in a few of the dances.

I thought he and Ginger had a thing about not kissing....and they did it only a couple of times in ALL their movies.

What was different about Rita?  Well, besides the obvious.

DR Jose-  I am glad to hear that you enjoy the "Farmdale" plays also.  I have never seen a live production of one.  Considering all the theatres here in Los Angeles, you would think someone would do them.  But I guess people are only interested in doing "vanity productions" (unless it is quality material like WHAT IF? of course!) :)

Haven't read the notes; haven't caught up on the posts, but had to say that it was a treat to read Peter Filichia's column today.  (Yes, there are things I read BEFORE signing onto HHW!)

DR Noel, all of our partnerships should be celebrated in such glorious fashion.  Congrats on being subject of today's diary!

As if you needed another reason to listen to Donald's radio show (if you are able, I know some DRs can't hook into it for various technical reasons), you get 4, count em, 4 selections from the National Theatre production of Night Music including Judi Dench doing Send in the Clowns!

DRNoel,  wow!  Immortalized by my pal Peter Filichia!  That was wonderful.  What a nice way to cap the day.

I had this awful dream last night about my stolen bicycle and bagpipers and Scottish dancers on an airplane.  There seems to have been a bit of WEST SIDE STORY delinquents as well.  From this summary, I hope you've deduced I slept very badly.  I think it has to do with THE WICKER MAN, but I've been wrong before.

I needs me some Eubie Blake and Victor Herbert (that combo is is weird as my dream) to get my day right.  If I think of a BK question, I'll ask it later.

Good Morning!

Thankfully, I'm not as sore as I thought I would be after yesterday's class/warm-up/workout, but we'll see how I am tomorrow morning after today's class/warm-up/workout.  -The second day always seems to be the clincher/killer.  And I slept rather well too, so I'm guessing that helped.  In any case...

For ASK BK DAY:

Did you ever go through a "video/computer game" phase?

Myself, I still remember playing Atari for hours at a time when I was younger, but I've never had any interest in Nintendo, Playstation, X-Boy or any of the latest batch of computer games (Sega, etc.).  -And the few times I've tried to play those games, I've found my fingers aren't coordinated that way.  ?!?!?  Sometimes I'll play word and strategy games from time to time, but I've never been drawn to adventure nor sport games.

Yourself?

DR SWW - As for "The Chocolate Bar" and "Frenchy's Chicken"...

-I've already taken the pocket guide out of the magazine.

and

-The addresses have already been Map-Quested.

:D

-Now I just to find when I'll actually have the time to check them out.  We start tech on Saturday with a 10 out of 12, so...  But I'm sure I'll make to at least one of those establishments while I'm here... plus a few others.  And after driving around a little bit more, I've noticed that there seems to be quite a good number of eating establishments of various culinary origins here in Houston.  One of my other culinary missions while I'm here is to find out what is and try a "kolache".  I've noticed a bunch of "kolache" restaurants and stands around town, and since my curiosity has now been peaked/piqued...

Ginger's reputation was also one of steely professionalism, but from what I've been told, she was not well loved in the industry and while she made immortal many dances with Astaire, I understand she was a slow, agonizing study and something of a thorn in  Hermes Pan's side.

One never hears a bad word said about Rita, that she was (especially at that period of her career) a dream to work with and full of humility and gratitude to have become an audience favorite.

Grand papa and Nana Grace (as DC - dear canine, in internet lingo - Morgan calls them) must be up and about already!

Here's a blatant plug:

The father and step-mother of DR Jay and myself are visiting with him prior to embarking on a two-week Panama Canal cruise, arranged by yours truly.  For though arts administration pays the bills, DP John and I have a sideline business as cruise travel agents.  We love cruising!  (Watch it, peanut gallery!)

So if any of you are even thinking about taking to the high seas (for some romance, with or without Dottie Day), feel free to let me know.  I would love to help make those dreams a reality.

And now, back to our show.....

Not in the sense that you're talking about, no.  I was quite fond of Frogger but only played it at Hef's mansion every week, in the days when I was on the "A" list.  And I play Free Cell when I need to relax, but that's about it.  I've never had my hands on a Playstation - don't even know how it works.  My darling daughter had Atari and I'm sure we must have played something on it, but I can't remember.

Winning something is always fun, but having been beat out for a Grammy already, it didn't bother me at all.  Grammy, like anything else, is based on name recognition - if a legendary rock producer somehow produced a cast album, he will win.  End of story.  If some awful thing like Riverdance is up for cast album (it shouldn't have been, but was) and is playing nightly all over the country as well as on PBS, it will win (over Rent).

Oh, I was recognized often, and people did stop and ask for autographs.  I was on all the right shows - shows that were hits and were watched by a lot of people.  And it still happens when reruns are shown.  I was recognized a lot for The Partridge Family, and when the Dinah Shore CBS series was on, it happened a ton of times.  Also, there was one year where I had like ten commercials running and people stopped me a lot cause they recognized me from those.

I'm relieved to see that most folks here aren't flaunting their dictums.

There's much too much of that in the gym shower rooms.  And it's becoming something of an occurrence on TV in shows like "Manhunt"...and don't get me started on the "Real World" cabals.

No, I belong to that group that thinks dictums should be safely tucked away until the situation for hauling it out and making a statement comes along.

And no putting anyone's eye out, either!

Speaking of cruises, there were only 2 things that I didn't love.  One was that the rooms are so small.  And the other is the turbulence.  But I'll bet the newer bigger ships have solved a lot of the second problem.

My favorite part was the food.  I have never tasted such good food in my life.  I mean I was literally stunned that they could make such high quality food at the dinners (the buffets weren't as good).   Since the dinners are mass-produced I thought they would be just average quality.  But the things we ate were so delicious I was truly stunned.

And since you can order as much as you want, everybody at our table took to ordering two or three desserts, so we could easily find out which one was best. :)

I actually saw the paypal story on yahoo news.

Does anybody else have this problem?

Yahoo is my home page.  Anyhow sometimes (like yesterday) I will see a story headline that interests me.  Then when I finally go to read it (maybe 30 minutes or more later) it's gone.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a place where they kept the headlines from the last few hours.  Or maybe there is and I just don't know about it.

The sad thing is that I couldn't remember the title of the article I wanted to read.  If I had remembered it was "paypal" then I could have just typed it in "search".

Oy.

In one of my classes today, the teacher was talking about What's-his-name Swinburne while all these pictures of Swinburne were being projected on a screen behind him. Swinburne looked just like Carrot Top. It was really hard not to laugh. And then my teacher said the word "interloper," which always makes me laugh (It's a long story) and I just couldn't hold it in any more. I got the giggles right there in the lecture hall.

Wasn't that a great story?

HELLO!  HELLO, ALL!  HELLO!  YO, HO!

(I'm internetting from the House of Mom, where there is no high speed connection, and I want to be sure y'all can hear me.)

Question for BK:  is there a TV variety special from years back that you would like to own on DVD?

Just yesterday , I received from Amazon the Merman/Martin Ford 50th Anniversary Duet DVD, along with the Bell Telephone Hour Cole Porter Tribute (also w/ Merman) that Ken Mandelbaum reviewed about a week ago at Broadway.com.  Looking forward to watching these later in the week.

But what I really want to see is a Mary Tyler Moore special from the 70s called Mary's Incredible Dream.  It was a musical romp though the Books of Genesis and Revelations, co-starring Ben Vereen, Doug Kershaw and The Manhattan Transfer.  It was such an odd piece but entirely entertaining.  I have a well worn audio recording somewhere.

Today may be the day I find my new home, DRs. Here is the front of one charming house I found. A treasure from the 1920's in North Hollywood. Totally fixed up -- as a project of love, not an investment -- with brand new everything. Including ALL the appliances. I'm just not certain about the area. I have one more to look at this afternoon which is right here in the City of Studio. It costs more than the charming house, but it's more house and is right where I want to be. BUT, I'd have to purchase fridge and washer/dryer. We shall see. Anyway, here's the front of the house from this morning...

As we all answer some of these questions, I will do so:

The Bette Midler special from about '75 or so, on which Cher was a guest star, and during which they both wore (at one point) some Bob Mackie creations adorned with 45s bobby-pinned to their hair as hats.

Also that Anne Bancroft special.  Annie and the 7 Hoods?  or something like that....

Re Jose's question... When I was pregnant with DD, I became totally addicted not to pickles and ice cream, but to a hand-held Mario Bros. game in which they had to load their wheelbarrows with bricks and deliver them somewhere within a certain time-frame or all hell broke loose. I played it for HOURS on end. After DD made her appearance, I lost interest in the Brothers Mario and their fershluganah wheelbarrow.

Is that the one in which she did the hilarious "I Say Tomato...You Say Tomato" audition bit?

Hmmmmmmmmmm.....my question for ASKBK day (with the exception of ROSEMARY'S BABY talked about last week) - which film for you was a perfect picturization of a book?  ....looked like you imagined it would....or was cast perfectly?

And of course....the opposite.....

Funny, the minute I read this question I immediately thought of two Meryl Streep movies.  I loved how The French Lieutenant's Woman was brought to the screen.  Though the modern day movie-making scenes were created for the adaption, they were a terrific replacement for the novel's narrative device.  On the other hand, I didn't care at all for Sophie's Choice.  Kevin Kline and Peter McNicol were miscast and the film's overall doom and gloom tone all but hit you over the head with the notion that this was going to end tragically.  It's a shame because, IMHO (internet lingo!), Styron's Sophie's Choice is one of the best novels of the 20th century and should have spawned a movie that was just as classic.

Maybe it was Fred's habit of eating entire heads of garlic raw.  Since Rita loved Italian food, she didn't have a problem with this habit, but Ginger was an ice cream soda fountain sort of gal.

As we all answer some of these questions, I will do so:

The Bette Midler special from about '75 or so, on which Cher was a guest star, and during which they both wore (at one point) some Bob Mackie creations adorned with 45s bobby-pinned to their hair as hats.

Actually, it was Cher's special, her other guest being Elton John (and maybe someone else, too--a non-musical guest--I'm not sure).  It was sort of the pilot for her own Sonny-less show.  I liked it a lot, too--another show that I have on an audio cassette somewhere.

Today's helpful hint:

When reconsidering one's dictum, the use of two mirrors facilitates matters greatly.
I prefer using a Poloroid camera.  Or digital.  But don't keep the evidence.

I once had a spinal injury, lower back, and when I saw the x-ray I was better impressed than I thought I would be.

I had a lovely morning.  My hiking group went to one of Echo’s favorite places, along a creek.  Then Keith & I gave her a nice shower after her breakfast.  None of us enjoyed that but now she is clean.  Since I was the one in the shower with her, I also needed a second shower.

Feeling very happy I turned on the computer, pleased to find my niece (my sister’s daughter) had written.  I was happy until I read it.  She and my nephew lost their half 19 year old half brother in a motorcycle accident Sunday.  I didn’t know him but my heart goes out to my nephew and niece and their father-and of course all of their family.

It helped sitting here reading all the posts.

The Bette Midler special was called "Ol' Red Hair Is Back" (in a swipe at Old Blue Eyes Is Back when Frank Sinatra came back from retirement.) It won the Emmy that year as the Best Variety Special. I think this was Bette's first Emmy.

The Anne Bancroft special was called "Annie: The Women in the Life of a Man" and it also won the Best Variety Special for its year. I believe that was her first Emmy as well (and possibly only Emmy, not sure about that.)

I have to respectfully disagree with you, DR Dan (the Man). I think SOPHIE'S CHOICE is a classic and, not having read the book, had no idea how it was going to end and was thus heartbroken and teary-eyed all over again even after the grueling concentration camp scenes.

I only knew going in that Sophie's choice was going to involve a tragedy, and I had no idea that she made several choices during the film, all of which were devastating.

DRPanni, nice house!  Is it your first choice of the ones you've looked at?  I wish you many good vibes in landing it!

Of the ones I've seen so far, it's my first choice. I can have it if I want it, I think. But in about an hour I'll be looking at one right here in the neighborhood (actually on the street where bk's house was). It looks lovely from the outside. It rents for more than I had wanted to spend, but sounds like exactly what I was looking for. And it's exactly where I want to be "location-wise." But I'd have to purchase some major appliances for this one, I believe -- so it's a big outlay of funds. In other words -  we shall see. I wish I were not doing this alone, it's a big decision.
They are not sure at this house I'm to see about renting to a pet, but said they are willing to meet the animal in question. (Their ad actually stated "No pets" -- but that didn't stop me. And as it turned out, they didn't totally mean it.) I'm hoping that if I want the place, Abie can charm them into submission. And I also have to pass credit-muster. I've put together an impressive portfolio of references - present landlord, former landlord, William Morris Agency, etc. - but if they're really fussy, who knows what they'll decide. I'm not exactly Donald Trump. (Although we have some similarities in our credit histories. Not in the positive sense, unfortunately.)
So the good vibes are much appreciated - please keep sending them my way today.

What a crap morning I've been having.  I come down after breakfast and walking Tewkes to log on quickly to visit my sites on the computer (Haineshis way...always first!).  My homepage SBCYahoo does not come up.  Oddly enough this page does come up.  I go back to the homepage.   Still not up.  Neither are any other pages coming up.  Go back to this one.  It's now not coming up.  I try my laptop.  Same thing.  There is an internet connection but no pages can be displayed.

So I call SBC tech support.

This is a pain in the ass in itself.  Since I can't go online.  I can't find the number.  So I call SBC general information line in the phone book.  They lead me through a convuluted automated procedure of options, that finally leads me to the message, "we can't handle DSL problems from here, you have to call SBC DSL.  Of course, they give you no number for that.  So I called SBC again, just picked any option that would finally get me to a human voice...and politely explained the problem, "I hate to bother you, ma'am, with something that's not your bailiwick, but...".  A very nice lady not only gave me the number for SBC tech support for future reference, but also connected me directly.

I then spend the next twenty-thirty minutes with a woman who seemed knowledgeable and polite, but had a very heavy Hispanic accent which made it difficult to understand all the various numbers and letters she was asking me to type out.  I felt embarrassed and a bit of fool constantly asking her to repeat things.  She also asked me to start pulling plugs from the router, etc.  That made me very nervous regards what my computer guy had set up.  But by plugging the cord going from the DSL modem into my laptop instead of the router, we found out the trouble stemmed from my router...

...which, of course, she could not help me with...

So I ended my conversation with her, thanked her for her help...and checked my router connections.  All working.

Nothing left to do but to call my computer guy. I'm envisioning days without an internet connection and expense, which is why I had avoided calling him in the first place.  Foolish me.  Fortunately, we were able to fix it over the phone.  All he had me do was unplug the router for a few seconds, then plug it back in.  Everything worked like a charm once again.

My morning shot for a two minute fix.

DRSWW, it all depends on the how you mean it.  I had a very good friend, whose birthday was the day after mine, and we had a falling out Thanksgiving weekend 1986 or so.  He lived in my hometown and I always thought at some point we'd patch things up when I was back on a visit because we had so many friends in common.  He died of a heart attack, and now we never will.  It's true I had many years to fix the friendship, as did he, but I never thought death would get in the way.

Here's a question for everyone: Is there someone who used to be an important part of your life, who left without the two of you ever really saying goodbye.

My father when I was five. He was in the hospital and suddenly died the day he was supposed to come home. I wasn't allowed to go to the funeral. In fact, I wasn't officially told he had died. I "found out." So there's never been for me - for the lack of a better word - closure. Apparently he and I were very close. The way I dealt with it at the time was to forget him. I guess anything else would have hurt too much. I have not one single memory of my father left. Not a moment. And almost anything of his that I had, I lost. Including the teddy bear he gave me before he died. I dragged it with me across the border to Vienna -- and promptly lost it there.

School was like a very strange dream. There were so many people standing or walking around shouting and waving signs around. I almost got trampled trying to go get lunch. Walking through this crowd, for some reason, was somebody dressed as Lucky the Leprechaun. So lots of people were getting their pictures taken with Lucky. I was just sorry that I hadn't thought to bring my Swedish Chef hat. And then in the middle of all this, there were a bunch of Chinese people doing Tai Chi.

And I think I saw a Secret Service guy. He might have been a Blues Brother, though.

Evening all.

Sorry to have been E & T the past couple of days but as I explained to Jane on the phone, I’ve been having some issues to deal with and I know people don’t like to always hear somebody whining about their problems---especially if they don’t have any cheese or crackers to go with the w(h)ine.  I figure it’s best to stay away when that happens.

I’m not a drinker but maybe some wine would help the whine.  Anyone know what kind of wine goes with whine?  Red?  White?   :)

Thank you so very much, DR Jane for the phone call.  It did make me feel ever so much better but as it has been a very long and tiring day and tomorrow won’t be much better, I think I am going to go get some rest.

Good house vibes to Panni and to all that need them.

I was glad to hear about DR Elmore’s MRI.  Did you try the memory foam pad?  I am totally hooked on mine even if Bear won’t sleep with me anymore.  I don’t know why he doesn’t like it but he has the couch.

I did watch LOST.  It is  now one of the three shows I make time to watch.  Joan of Arcadia and JAG being the only other two that I pay any attention to.

Pleasant evening to one and all.

Less than ten posts to 70,000 posts.  I don't think there is much question that we will achieve our new high water mark this very evening.  Let me just say that what I'm seeing on this debate is not worth my watching time.  I see two people who will never deliver on their promises.  One of them is probably more dangerous than the other, but I, in my history of watching debates, have listened to the (usually) empty rhetoric ad nauseum and then watched whoever came into power not deliver on what they assured us they would deliver on.  So, call me cynical, but I don't think there is a winner to what I'm seeing on TV tonight.  I see two people who are saying what they think people want to hear (in their own ways), and saying what they need to say to sway votes and get themselves elected.   And neither of them inspires my confidence, although Mr. Kerry seems like a decent sort.

I don't totally agree with you, BK, because I do believe their ambitions are genuine.  I will never know the compromises that go on in politics, between lobbyists, promises to supporters, etc.   I believe our president may be no more a figurehead than Queen Elizabeth, and that the government is run in the houses, but I'd rather have a figurehead that I think speaks for himself and myself over a figurehead I consider a front to threats to human rights and the constitution.

Annette used only "Annette" for her recording career and "Annette Funicello" for her acting career.

So if you are searching on EBAY for just her records, sometimes you don't get what you want by using her full name.

In 1940 W.H Auden ended his operetta PAUL BUNYAN with this litany:

From a Pressure Group that says I am the Constitution
From those who say Patriotism and mean Persecution
From a tolerance that is really inertia and disillusion
     Save animals and men

From entertainments neither true nor beautiful nor witty
From a homespun humour manufactured in the city
  From a dirty-mindedness of a Watch Committee
    Save animals and men

1939, Auden clearly saw ths as a Nazi threat, but I think there's relevance today in this country.  End of soapbox.

So, concerning our intellectual discussion of VANITY FAIR several weeks ago, I just bought a copy of the novel and I'm going to reread it.  I did learn something interesting in the foreword to the POenguin edition:  Dobson is based on Thackeray himself, and Amelia was based on a married woman Thackeray loved from a distance.  His own wife was insane and institutionalized, and in 1853, the year VANITY FAIR was published, Thackeray was very emotionally wrought over the whole shebang.  By 1856, he was bitter, believing she had used him and led him on.  The foreword also points out Thackeray's influence on WAR AND PEACE.  No mention of GONE WITH THE WIND.  I guess the Penguin editor didn't consider it a classic book.

June Haver, of course, was being groomed by Fox to take over from Betty Grable in their long tradition of blonde musical stars. Then Marilyn Monroe happened and poor June was just a limp dishrag in comparison. No wonder she left the business.

Watching LOVE NEST is almost cruel because all Marilyn has to do is walk into the frame and ALL eyes go to her.

It's not the cute one in the picture. It's very close to where I live now -- but on a lovely, lovely street. Just the size I wanted. With a guest room AND an office. A fenced backyard (a gardener included in the rent) -- and I was wrong about no major appliances. It has ALL the appliances .  A very nice house. And totally by coincidence, old Canadian friends live two doors away. It's more than I had wanted to pay, but I'm going to take a chance.

DR Jennifer - The class is "voluntary" - more or less.  However, it is a great warm-up, and it's a true dancer's warm up - concentrates on stretching, flexibility, balance, line, strength, etc.  However, if someone has their own personal warm-up, or needs to warm-up differently due to injuries or something like that, then they can do the parts of the class that work for them, then do their own thing when it suits them.

I do a "modified" version of the class, mainly since I can not touch my toes, nor bring my forehead down to my knee caps.  But I do what I can.  My crunches and sit-ups may not go as "far" as the other people in the class, but I do pretty well - especially since I'm just "the pianist". ;)

-Oh, and after only two days, I can already tell that my jeans are fitting better.  -And the "exhaustion" has also been helping me sleep better too.

There was a very enjoyable bin at WalMart today, filled with DVDs, all of which were of the horror genre, and all of which were on sale for $5.  The Abominable Dr. Phibes, Dr. Phibes Rises Again, and Theater of Blood have been added to our collection.

Since we also added Aladdin I suppose I should be watching that, but Vincent Price is so much more fun.

I did not watch the debate.  I occupied my time cooking dinner and updating our DVD database, far more practical ways of spending my time.

Good Evening!

Day Two of rehearsal - well, Day Two, for me - went well.  We finished the Tap sequence, and then ended the day by choreographing the Finale/Bows!  WOW!  It was amazing how the air of fatigue and frustration changed in the room as soon as everyone formed that final line and started doing those famous steps!  -And it was also the one part of the dance that did not need to be choreographed since everyone knew it either from doing the show before, or from learning it in some class.  I actually got goosebumps!  -And a little teary-eyed.

I did some more exploring of downtown Houston during the two-hour dinner break.  I headed over to the Market Square area where I found a nice fast-food type Cuban and Mexican place.  Pretty good.  That area of town also some other places I'm gonna try to check out.  However, like most of downtown Houston, a lot of the places are only open until 3:00 in the afternoon - it's very much a 9-5 oriented area.  And I also found a couple of access points to the "tunnel system" - kind of an underground Houston - shops, restaurants, etc.  Again, however, most of them are only open during office hours - even the underground closes at 7:00p.m.  -OH! But the major find today was the Krispy Kreme about three blocks from the theatre! ;)

But the major "news" of the day was the rescheduling of Monday's schedule.  Originally, Monday was going to consist of a "Daylight Day of Rest", followed by a rehearsal from 7:00-Midnight.  However, since we are now moving into the theatre tomorrow afternoon, the whole company will now be off all day - and night - on Monday.  Which is great news for myself and the conductor since our Sunday will be VERY long - Orchestra rehearsal from 9:00am-1:00pm, then rehearsal from 1:00pm-Midnight (with a dinner break) (that actors come in at Noon).  However, any way you slice it, it will be a long day, and it will now be very nice to have a full day off after that.  Whew!

Well... I need to get some sleep now...

Goodnight.

I don't know about bk, but I saw her at the mall on the weekend. That makes us close personal friends.

"No child left behind" I believe refers to the fact that every child in America, whether a millionaire's kid or a one living in the slums, is supposed to have an equal shot at getting a good education.
...I'm not holding my breath. (And my understanding of what the phrase means may be off.)

DR LAURA - I am sure MRBK will talk about this is tomorrow's notes.....and I am anxious to hear about it.

7Bfor7B was filmed in CinemaScope.  But since in 1954 not ALL theatres were equipped with CinemaScope equipment, a second version was filmed with a different camera.  So once the 'Scope scene was filmed, the cast re-grouped and did it all again for another camera.

There are two versions of OKLAHOMA! - and the one now available the TODD-AO (I think) version is subtly better than the "regular" version that was first released on video and had been the one shown on TV for years.  Subtle - but different!
