Well, you've read the notes, the notes didn't get to take the day off, and now it is time for you to post until the taking the day off cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: INFRANGIBLE!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
I can usually "translate" DR vixmom's iPad posts without much effort, but some of last night's entries still have me scratching my head. :)
-
I am hoping that her inhumane working schedule does not continue.
-
None of the books I've read recently were really good enough to share.
-
I see that J.K. Rowling is releasing the third book in her detective series - the one written under her nom de plume.
-
I don;t think I've ever said this before - third after singdaw!!! And before 7 a.m.
-
And now it is Tuesday.....more lines......
-
I do have a bit of shopping to do, since I didn't do it yesterday.
TOD:
In addition to MR BK's tomes
Death at SeaWorld - very interesting if difficult
Famous Enough - Diane McBain's autobiography, interesting
William Gillette: America's Sherlock Holmes - another interesting biography
-
Good Morning. It's Tuesday --right?
-
Good morning, all.
An incredible thunderstorm rolled through here at 4:50 AM. Just incredible. You can see it just off the coast of Cape Cod now.
-
First -- after Kerry after Jrand64 after FJL after singdaw after Ben after BK.
It does a fellow proud.
-
I should read that Gillette book.
-
I haven't even visited the castle.
-
Good morning, all.
-
A Benedryl helped me get through the night. I just hope Im not hopelessly groggy today. So far, the sneezing has stopped.
-
TOD: last week I finished The Negroni about my favorite cocktail (equal parts gin, vermouth and Campari) and Kipling's The Man Who Would Be King. I'm now listening to Turn of the Screw and reading a new novel called The Unfortunates, about the trials and tribulations of the 1%. Also reading occasionally Balzac's A Harlot High and Low, the 1902 Lone Star Cook Book and Nathaniel's Nutmeg, about the spice trade.
-
Good morning, all! I had a horrid night: restless, sleepless, stomach problems, to AC or not. Then, when i'd finally dozed off, the storm landed and a huge thunder clap woke me. When the alarm rang at 6:00, there was no way in hell I was going to get out of bed. Around 8:45, I awoke with the feeling Genug ist Genug.
I am not happy that I missed ther Columbia trup this morning, but I've decided that I will go to the Lincoln Center library at noon and do some Moross research there.
-
I never keep track on the number of posts. I really missed 35,000 yesterday.
-
DR vixmom, why is it that your real estate work is so horribly busy and that goddam Ohio property sits like dogpoop on a sidewalk and does nothing but aggravate?
-
I can usually "translate" DR vixmom's iPad posts without much effort, but some of last night's entries still have me scratching my head. :)
.
Ditto ;D
-
I am hoping that her inhumane working schedule does not continue.
DITTO! And that her parent's be well!
-
None of the books I've read recently were really good enough to share.
I know that feeling. I have ready a couple of Georgette Heyer's books that were fun.
-
I see that J.K. Rowling is releasing the third book in her detective series - the one written under her nom de plume.
My Ashland library never got the first one in. I now have it on my Vancouver library wishlist. I haven't put any eBooks on hold yet as I want to finish up with my Ashland books fist before I change the library on my overdrive aap.
-
I stopped reading the Anne Perry Thomas and Charlotte Pitt mysteries; after 20 or so mysteries, I stopped caring at about the point where i think she did, too. Still, I liked most of the 20+ I'd read very much.
I've been on these recently, all very good:
Hugh McDonald's new biography of Georges Bizet
Nigel Simeone's new bio of Sir Charles Mackerras
Jean Pierre Aumont's memoirs
John Lahr's biography of Tennessee Williams
-
Congrats on your milestone, Elmore.
-
Sitting at one of the Cove marshes this morning was an uncommon sight this far north, a Great Egret.

Pretty bird.

I never keep track on the number of posts. I really missed 35,000 yesterday.
Happily, George caught it and posted it for your memory book!
-
Before I go one post too far:
Hey!

-
I slept much too well last night. Much, much too well. It was a wonderfully cool night...mercifully cool, as far as my condo goes. No trapped heat despite the outside temp being quite nice.
-
We have a partly cloudy and partially sunny morning going on. The clouds are quite definable (i.e., definitely not Marine Layer fog).
-
Tuesday morning greetings! I'm off soon to the grocery to stock up before I get really busy for the next several days. This evening AAUW Middletown is participating in our city's National Night Out event and starting about noon tomorrow I will be in the northern Cincinnati 'burbs for Stampaway USA 2015 (http://www.stampawayusa.com). I'm taking several papercrafting classes and, on Saturday, attending the trade show. I'm only staying overnight on Thursday because I have a late class that day and an early one on Friday morning. Otherwise, I'll be driving back and forth and sleeping in my own bed.
-
Right now my reading is confined to The Game's Afoot or Holmes for the Holidays by Ken Ludwig....
Yes DR CHAS SMITH he was a most interesting man and had some great ideas for life onstage and offstage.
-
Pretty bird.
I saw it last night while walking home and thought the female swan was looking a bit on the thin side. This morning we looked at the Blue Heron through the telescope and then at the matching Egret. As soon as I saw a close-up view I realized my error last night. Of course if I had seen the female swan last night I would have known there. I only saw the male. This morning they were both out with the heron& the egret.

Hello One and All.....You may have noticed there hasn't been a new Broadway Radio Show for the past several weeks -- that's because I was on vacation in Scotland and Spain, but I have now returned and just posted the latest edition of the radio show. This time we are catching up with 8 new cast recordings released this summer -- Fly By Night, Pageant, Jon & Jen, The King & I, Finding Neverland, Misia, The Scottsboro Boys, and Seven Brides For Seven Brothers. Lots and lots of great music for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!!!
-
Donald your trip sounds very nice.

Hey, everyone!
TOD: Just read "The Girl With All the Gifts" by Mike Carey. It's a zombie-apocalypse book, which is not normally my genre of preference, but Carey's one of my favorite writers, and he quite ingeniously blends the genre elements with a retelling of a Greek myth (I don't want to say which one, although the title might give it away) and his own quite excellent character writing. It's also being made into a British movie featuring Glen Close. His graphic novel series, "The Unwritten," is also quite excellent.
-
I'm up, I'm up. I think I got eight hours of sleep, maybe a bit more.

I just added it to my Washington eBook wish list which I will get to one day.
DR Jennifer is this something you would read?

I am 21 books behind my goal to read 140 books for the year. 140 books should be nothing to me, boy has my life changed this year :)
Next year I will challenge myself to only read the number of books I read this year.
-
I used to read like that, Jane. Wish I could now, but that's for the future.
-
Apparently I no longer read like that-lol. I can't seem to speed read either. On the upside I am sleeping better most of the time. Mostly I'm just busy doing other things. :)
-
I have begun reading Schulberg's What Makes Sammy Run?, which I've wanted to read for ages, since I once worked for a person in the recording industry who could be the model for Sammy Glick.
-
I had a nice trip and visit with friends at the NYPL.
-
I've started that one one on a couple of occasions, DR Elmore, and never stuck with it for some reason. I'm pretty sure that wasn't any fault of the book's. Looking forward to your report.
-
I never keep track on the number of posts. I really missed 35,000 yesterday.
DR George, I didn't thank you for preserving the occasion. I'm sorry.
Thank you.

My library has as an e-book download, so I went ahead and placed a hold.

Welcome back to BROADWAY DONALD....a new recording of 7Bfor7B?
-
Does anyone here play Trivia Crack?
-
I am pretty busy today, but I'm pausing for a meal break. Salisbury Steak w/Mac and Cheese. Really, it's a spiraled pasta and cheese. It's a Boston Markets frozen lunch. It's filling if not nutritious.
-
Last night, I had some breaded/fried pork medallions, fried okra and fresh tomatoes. I LOVE SUMMER!!!
-
Lay's Potato Chips - 4 newest flavors
Anyone tried them?
I've had the Southern Biscuits & Gravy: Pretty darned tasty
I've had the Greektown Gyro: Not so much.
And I'm currently tasting the New York Reuben -- Yum!
& the West Coast Truffle Fries -- Interesting, but I've never had the actual truffle fries so I don't know how it compares.
Anyone tried 'em/have any preferences?

The goodreads blurb sounds interesting. But they don't mention anything about zombies, which i really dislike.

I always set my goal lower, then increase it if i am reading a lot. You could adjust your goal now if you don't think you can read 140 books.

I tawt I taw a puddy tat?
-
I did! I did taw a puddy tat!
-
But, he did not follow me here.

-
I think the New York Reuben chip and the Southern Biscuit and Gravy chip are the best of the batch.
Frankly, though, I've not been bowled over by any of the flavored chips Lay's has introduced (suggested by fans).
I still believe my "Potato Salad Potato Chip" suggestion would have been better than any I've tasted, so far! ;)
-
I see that J.K. Rowling is releasing the third book in her detective series - the one written under her nom de plume.
"Career of Evil" by Robert Galbraith. My library has it on order. I've "recommended" (it's a function in OverDrive) that they purchase the e-book. :)
-
Topic of the Day:
I am currently reading (for the very first time) "To Kill a Mockingbird." Excellent books (well, books that I've really liked) that I've recently read (in alphabetical order):
Academ's Fury (book 2 of the Codex Alera)
The Martian (by Andy Weir)
Murder at the Hollywood Division (an Adriana Hofstetter novel)
A Red Herring Without Mustard (a Flavia de Luce novel)
Small Favor (a novel of The Dresden Files)

Back from a jog. We put up the next Kritzerland show for reservations ninety minutes ago and half the tickets are gone.

Hmmm, I've never done that. I just use epub. Once I am done with the books at the Ashland library I will begin placing holds from my Vancouver wish list.

I think it is funny watching how many books I am behind schedule. Based on my past years I could have set it to 150 books and expected to beat it. If I felt pressured to read more because of the numbers I would change it.

"Career of Evil" by Robert Galbraith. My library has it on order. I've "recommended" (it's a function in OverDrive) that they purchase the e-book. :)
I don't seem to have that option on the Washington overdrive. I'm going to double check this as I don't know why yours would be different than mine. It is possible I don't think it is there because there isn't a link to see which books I have recommended. I have one on my Oregon overdrive.

My WA eBook library does not show this when I did an advanced search. So far I have not found any books doing an advance search that were not found doing a regular search.

I haven't been tempted by any of the flavors DR RLP.....all I can think is: THESE were the best ones submitted?

32 seats left :)

I am quite embarrassed that I forgot "Murder At the Hollywood Division"; it was the last novel I've read this year and i really liked it. Oy!

First, it's not Washington's OverDrive versus Oregon's OverDrive, it's each particular library's OverDrive. Each individual library system contracts with OverDrive and sets their own parameters and options.

Second, when you do the advance search, make sure that you select the option (it is probably at the very bottom of the screen just above the search button) "Additional Titles to Recommend." This is the option that searches OverDrive's complete database, and not just your library's purchased titles. That should bring up any title that is available for your library to purchase. Now, whether they choose to buy it is another issue, but at least you will know if OverDrive has it.

Just watching a movie and relaxing. In about an hour I'll leave for dinner at Ruth's Chris!

I wasn't sure. I don't know about the Overdrive aap but I was told the books were through the entire state. Sometimes there would be a check mark on a book. Highlighting it would show my library might not have the book where other libraries did. Other times I got a book faster because my library purchased extra books just for us.

Thanks for your help DR George.

DR George IS very helpful, isn't he? :)

Yes he is :)

Very interesting. I guess your new library doesn't want its patrons suggesting titles to purchase. :-\
I would think that it's a financial decision, although the library's selectors would still be the ones confirming the purchasing of said selections.

Keith stopped at the market today to get butter and bought all sorts of stuff, except for butter. ;D

Be back later.

I'm off to the theater.
Isn't there a song in Applause about that?

Where is DR FJL with a great "But Alive" parody when you need him?

Butter makes better batter.
Betty Botter bought some butter
But she said this butter's bitter
If I put it in my batter
It will make my batter bitter,
But a bit of better butter
Will surely make my batter better.
So she bought a bit of butter
Better than her bitter butter
And she put it in her batter
And her batter was not bitter.
So t'was better Betty Botter
Bought a bit of better butter.

JRand, I think this is the first commercial release of the stage version of 7B for 7B. Wonder what took it so long.
-
Back from too much dance practice. So very tired.

Watching the first part of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. Sophia Loren is really incandescent.

How many Sophia Lorens does it take to change a lightbulb?
-
I dunno, Slapjack. How many?
-
Can we get off this page?
-
Hello, 1 Guest.
-
I guess I drove everyone away.
-
But here we go.
-
Five!
-
Hello!
-
Anybody home?
-
I guess not.
-
I did not see George's parents today.
-
At least, I don't think I did.
-
Or the
sister aunt nun
His aunt!
-
Of course there were a lot of very strange people to check out, so I couldn't go around saying, "Are you George's mother?" "Are you a nun?"
-
The buffet was totally underwhelming.
-
The mac and cheese had no flavor. I would have preferred Kraft's.
-
My sister said the prime rib was like shoe leather.
-
My brother-in-law went to the pasta bar. He ordered fettuccine alfredo with shrimp. He said it was good, but they added into the sauce, cheddar cheese, or maybe even American cheese. Gross.
-
I know what they used to build the additions to the casino. The meatloaf.
-
It is still sitting in my stomach like a rock, or a boulder.
-
There was some good things on the buffet.
-
They had a good Kung Pao Chicken which was very tasty.
-
That was served with stuck rice.
-
I should have had the mashed potatoes with gravy.
-
The sautéed shrimp were very good.
-
And I am sure the salmon was good; if you eat that sort of thing.
-
I was a good boy and skipped all of the desserts.
-
My brother-in-law said the carrot cake was very good.
-
The place seemed really empty. Maybe it was just that they have increased the size of the place so much that it just seemed empty.
-
Pill poppin time!
-
I suppose I should finish the page.
-
If I could think of anything to say.
-
I have to think about the Topic of the Day.
-
Was it novels? Or just books?
-
I haven't been reading much while waiting for my eyes to heal.
-
One more post.
-
Six!
-
Back from a spectacular dinner at Ruth's Chris. My friend was working tonight, so she comped us on two sides and dessert AND gave us a $25 off coupon. My tummy is a little woozy from the richness of the food - I've been eating nothing but sandwiches and salads and stuff for three weeks.
-
Nice library, DR Jane!
Thanks. If I find better photos I will share them.
-

It must have been terrible.

TOD: Lots of Roman mysteries. Currently reading Lindsay Davis' DEADLY ELECTION, which is the 3rd in her series of new Roman mysteries following her long series with Marcus Didius Falco. These feature Falco's adopted daughter from Britannia, Falvia Albia.
-
Twelve seats left in less than twelve hours - pretty good. If we sell out by morning this will have been our fastest ever sellout. Once that happens, we'll decide whether we want to do a matinee or not - I'm not actually sure I want to.
-
That's great news, BK!
