Well, you've read the notes, the notes were hefty, and now it is time for you to post until the hefty cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CHILIAD!
-
First post after BK!
-
Jane, Katie is still with us. She ha rallied some, and her fever has broken.
-
But she is not out of the woods.
-
I will tell Sharry that you asked after her.

Here is a section of the big opening number of OLD FAITHFUL. And bk is right; it has to be seen to be believed! :)

Speaking of aerobics :) - always worth a look is Barry Bostwick, Gwen Verdon, Paula Kelly, Sandahl Bergman and many others doing JUMP FOR MY LOVE

-
Barry Bostwick was of course playing George Washington at the time, so it's several years back.

I'm so glad the Peeps are Gluten free, for the health-conscious.

Good morning, all! I waffled about Columbia while i stayed in bed for another hour, then I remembered our building has no water between 9AM and 2PM and decided to go in and examine some Moross files.
-
I have no news to report this morning. I deliberately avoided the debate last night and watched more episodes of MAPP & LUCIA.
-
Netflix just sent me three more discs of FOYLE'S WAR, so that's a big part of my weekend.
-
BK, thanks for the tip on the new book. it's now on my amazon wishlist.
-
Time to head north.
-
Good Morning to all.
-
And another clips with laugh and applause track added. This one is even stranger.

-
Thanks for sharing that, DR Michael. Wild and weird. I like the laugh track!
-
Speaking of aerobics :)
How limber Mr. Bostwick is!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Most excellent WHAT IF in the comments yesterday. LOL.....
I have never heard of "Old Faithful", but the clips are horrifying......
-
Thanks for the alert about yesterday's posts, Jrand. Somehow I'd clicked off something and it didn't remind me to finish reading yesterday.
Really delicious What If number in the posts, BK! Made me laugh quite a few times.
-
Speaking of aerobics :)
How limber Mr. Bostwick is!
He was limber then
He was good at climbing trees
(since we're in a Pacific Overtures mode)
-
Or about his teeth as George Washington:
They were lumber then
-
OK, that's a stretch, but we have to get to page 2 before 10 a.m.

Not sure why but I think we must

Nice link DR FJL.
And I like George's lumber teeth.
And of course....something I read yesterday that made me laugh:
I'm so old Abraham Lincoln stayed home on my birthday.
-
DR George I fell asleep before I could say goodnight. I didn't stay asleep but I didn't turn my Nook on again.
-
Jane, Katie is still with us. She ha rallied some, and her fever has broken.
I am very relieved and pleased. Continued good vibes for Katie. May is soon be out of the woods!

Thank you.

There is a balm in "chiliad".
-
Hey!
-
What debate? I know Megyn Kelly was front and center, dressed as though she were competing for Miss Galaxy or some such, but was there truly a debate?
-
It was more an appearance by Insane Clown Posse.
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep. I read a bit of the book last night - my section completely, riddled with typos. Read the section on Lost Horizon - basically even when he's dealing with a terrible film he's a cheerleader. And obviously no one looked at one word of the book in terms of proofing - in the Lost Horizon section he says that Paramount's casting of the film really let the film down. That's fine only Paramount had nothing to do with Lost Horizon - it's a Columbia film.
-
Hey, all! Hope everyone's well.

A brass land/sky telescope was delivered today. It is stronger than our current land scope and will look nice since it will be in the dining area. I hope it works as well as the write-up on it.
-
All our tile work is completed. The electrician needs to put in the new outlet/plug covers and the contractor is making a special door for a shelf in the kitchen and then we will be done and ready to take photos.
-
Of course my office is still a mess. I need to finish putting it together.

I'm getting there.

Tomorrow's one of my favorite days of the year: Rambling Rose'. I'll be on a series of panels about rose' wine and the wonders of drinking pink. (That's the dry stuff, not white zinfandel and its ilk).

Friday afternoon greetings! I was home from my Cincinnati overnight in time for lunch, after a fun class this morning in which we made a Two-Folds Tag Book using 5 each of 2 different kinds of envelopes.
In about an hour we will see Rob and Mary Linda off to the Dayton airport. She's flying to England tonight with a co-worker for about 10 days of providing some kind of training. Her husband and her housemates are very jealous!

I took a look at the first few pages of We Can Be Who We Are on amazon.com. The author misspells Busby Berkeley's name on the second page. Not promising.

The final scene on the OBC, and new recording, beginning with "Buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, busy little sewing bee" to the end of the show was written for Broadway and most likely rehearsed by day while the cast was still performing the original final scene at the Phoenix theatre in every performance until the show closed there and moved uptown where they opened, and later recorded, the new finale.
-
The original final scene:
1. The sewing bee has no chorus ladies singing "Buzz buzz buzz buzz, busy little sewing bee"; it's only the three social leaders, Helen, and Penelope and they sing "Tat, knit, hem, stitch. etc. to the tune of "We've Just Begun." In this scene, the ladies sing about what they are working on and Penelope explains the importance of items in the quilt. Helen examines the quilt and declares it finished.
2. Four suitors enter with Ulysses and offer their hands, now that she's got to fulfill her promise of selecting one of them when she finished the quilt. Four of them have short solos on who they are: country doctor, village blacksmith, farmer in the dell, and Ulysses offers himself as "a wandering ne'er-do-well." She blindfolds herself and kisses the four. The townswomen are shocked by her offer and leave, telling her she's not respectable.
3. After Ulysses kisses her, he reveals himself, punches a suitor who falls backwards onto the other three like dominos, and the four boys fall down. They leave, leaving Penelope and Ulysses alone onstage.
4. Penelope's Tirade, just as the final version, leading into
5. "We've Just Begun."
-
Also in the entry on 1776 the movie, the author dismisses it entirely because it didn't deal enough with the slave issue.
He says that there had been no attempt to make lyrics, score or libretto interesting. Huh?

Outstanding, DR Elmore! The Colligan programs are well-attended - Richard and I go frequently. Do you have an exact date? We're in the "talking stages" of a driving trip in his new car and don't want to be out of town for this...

Congratulations DR elmore and good luck fitting into your suit.
-
Congrats to DR ELMORE - we will of course need photos and tear sheets of the publicity.

DEEP IN MY HEART was part of an MGM set that I had for quite awhile before I watched it....I liked some of the songs....and some of the performances.
DR JOHN G I like Jane to a point, but she has that MGM trill that LB must have loved since Kathryn Grayson also used it....it just sends me over the edge.

I think Ms Powell is perfection in "Seven Brides," something that Ms Grayson never achieves.

Yes, the trill is less than thrilling. I agree. I wonder if she were coaxed to do that excessive nonsense. Because when she just sings, like in "Too Late Now," she's lovely.

Congratulations, DR elmore3003.
It's nice to be asked.
Might they perhaps provide a small travel allowance?

Might they perhaps provide a small travel allowance?
If I accept, they're paying for the flight and accommodation. Still, I would like to stay a week and see family. I wonder if i can con them into paying for a rental car. We'll talk on Monday. I'm still not really sure exactly what I am asked to talk about.

Perhaps to read scandalous excerpts from your unpublished memoir!

Of course not. He also says we have a rape joke in Nudie Musical - really? I sure don't recall it.

While I'm always glad to be part of history and especially when it's positive, this book is just riddled with the most basic kinds of errors - spelling, factual, whatever - and how do you take that seriously.

I read the new book about the Brecht-Weill partnership. I was really enjoying it, and then the author in discussing the 1954 off-Broadway THREEPENNY OPERA screwed up the cast. Jeez, the recording is still in print and still the best THREEPENNY OPERA recording. Ever.
After that, I stopped trusting her.

I don't either.

Dear me, this book is a disaster I'm afraid. He credits Blake Edwards with the screenplays of Breakfast at Tiffany's and Days of Wine and Roses (it's actually a little unclear, but hard to read it any other way). In talking about Scrooge he says "Albert Finney was in his 1930s when he made the film." I'm sorry, this is amateur writing of the worst kind - any positioning by Bear Manor Media of being a "real" publishing company is put to rest when they release a book as inept as this one. And you know what - had he sent me the manuscript, I would have proofed it for him and saved him all this embarrassment, and that includes calling the D.A. Pennebaker film Company: Cast Recording - a wonderful document about recording the soundtrack of Company. I'm afraid to continue but I shall.
-
I will also say that this Indiegogo campaign for Welcome to My World has been completely irritating to me since day one. I told everyone up front that I could not do it myself, that I'd just done our successful Kritzerland campaign and could not personally be involved in another so quickly. So, it fell to Sami's mom. I went over the perks and stuff, but basically this was all on her. And when we went live and didn't get past about fifteen percent in the first two days, I told her she was going about it wrong and what to do. She assured me she had tons of people who were going to get us funded and not to worry. After four days and no movement, I really came on strong and said there was no fun or spirit to the campaign and that if she didn't listen to me the campaign would stall and not succeed - she assured me it would all be okay. Plus she met with an Indiegogo guru who told her how to do everything and he'd never not had a campaign succeed, even though he was coming to this one late in the game. When I saw what he was directing her to do, I took exception to it and was again not listened to. It was much too relentless and obnoxious what he was having her do. I finally began mentioning it two weeks ago and tried to make it fun on my end, but the damage had been done, and she continued to make assurances and tell me it would all go up soon. But it never did - yes, we managed to get up to a bit over six thousand dollars and that's fine - but according to her we were going to fully fund without question - we got forty percent of the way there. The promised thousands of dollars from this Disney kid from Girl Meets World show being on a bonus track on the CD and a meet and greet simply never materialized at all - and he was supposedly tweeting to 700 THOUSAND followers. It was very sweet of him to do it and he's a good and loyal pal to Sami and her family.
But in the end not ONE of the promised bigger contributions happened. They know a LOT of wealthy people, not a one of whom could be bothered to contribute, despite the fact that Sami's family had always been there for and supportive of these folks and their kids. Others for whom the mom had done incredible favors also chose not to contribute. Vocal coaches and dance coaches that they've paid thousands to could not be bothered to contribute and by contribute I mean simply buying their tickets via the campaign at a nice discount. Needless to say, this was an eye-opener for the mom and she's been very upset for the past three weeks - she doesn't like doing things like this and who can blame her when people who should be supportive and at least do what they SAY they're going to do show their true colors. She will no longer do anything for those people, and rightfully so. She, like me, has a long memory. There are people in LA that I know VERY well who have not bothered to attend ONE of the sixty-one Kritzerland shows. That just frosts me and I will NEVER go see anything these people are in and believe me they have the chutzpah to ask over and over again. I tell them all the same thing: "How many Kritzerland shows have you seen? After you see one you may talk to me about supporting you."
So, they will put in the shortfall and hopefully get most of it back from the box-office receipts. I have loathed the relentless quality of the campaign, and I actually really put a stop to it a week ago. And other than letting people know about the very first press release that will go out Monday, my dictum from here on in is absolutely NO social media posts or images about the show until September and even then I will be in control of what we do about getting the word out.
One of the reasons I feel the Kritzerland campaign was successful (no we didn't fully fund but we got close to 80%) was making it fun, making people excited, having a lot of folks cheerleading all over the Internet. The mom's friends never did that. We had a few of my people do it and that was helpful. The plan was to have fun tonight in the last few hours of the campaign, but I don't want to now. I just want it to end - I don't think it will go up much beyond where it is if at all. And her "friends" should be ashamed of themselves. For example, the mom has given money to a whole plethora of Jewish families when their kids have their Bar and Bat Mizvahs - over and over and over and over again. Sami and Sarah chose not to have Bat Mitzvahs - this would have been a great way for those families to give back, but nooooo, that didn't happen because the entitlement only works in one direction. Sadly, that is the lesson she's learned.
-
That is a sad story MR BK. People.....I think the age of electronic communication has made them even more selfish and self-interested. And of course, the more you are interested in YOURSELF the less you are interested in OTHERS - except of course what OTHERS can do for you or as an audience to the said self-interest.
Everybody is a Kardashian.
-
Finished my song. I'll tell you the title because it will tell you exactly what it's about - it will be in the new LA revue we're doing next years. The title: C.C. Brown's. My little valentine to that most wonderful of all places that was an LA institution for ninety years before they closed in 1996.
-
Forgot to mention I went to Mac-o-licious today. I'd say their classic southern mac is, in style and intention, close to my Aunt Lily's, which was my favorite. This wasn't that but it was good - just too much of it, I think. I had their much lauded corn bread muffin (tiny) and thought it terrible. I don't know that I need to return.

BK, thanks for the tip on the new book. it's now on my amazon wishlist.
I've added it to my wishlist, also...and on Monday, I'll put in a request for purchase at work. It's brand new and probably not legitimately reviewed (Kirkus, Publisher's Weekly, etc.), but maybe the selector will buy it anyway.
-
Couldn't hurt.
-
I have just been asked to be a guest speaker in October for Michael J. Colligan History Project at Miami University Hamilton and the Mad Anthony Theatre Company of the Fitton Center for Creative Arts in Hamilton, Ohio.
Congrats, Larry! Even if you don't go, it's nice to have been asked.
-
Well, my aunt is still in the hospital. :P More than likely, she'll be released tomorrow. My sister and I went to visit her today and spent a couple of hours with her. We played Phase 10 (the family's favorite game...I won!) and chatted and had a nice time.
-
I'm now just about to leave for the theater. Tonight is the official opening night for Theater Artists Olympia's "An Improbable Peck of Plays, Vol. IV." I don't know how many tickets have sold, but I'm sure that overall we'll do well with this show. We have in the past.
-
Page four? Really?
-
I have a little meeting at eight. I'm still VERY full from the mac-and-cheese lunch, so not sure what I'll have - maybe just a sandwich, or maybe something even smaller like pudding.
-
Tonight, one of the board members is having a surprise movie night birthday party for a friend. I know the friend, so I'm going after our show is over.
-
The friend just thinks that she's coming over for a private party, but a WHOLE bunch of theater folk are going to come over and watch a movie that'll be projected on the side of the board member's garage.
-
There's supposed to be another surprise for the wife of the board member, but I don't remember what he's planning for her. Anyway, it'll be a late night and a lot of fun with people I know.
-
So, I'm off. Have a good rest of the evening, all!
-
But before I go...Topic of the Day: "To Kill a Mockingbird" on my Kindle.
:)
-
And now I'm leaving!
-
Good evening from Rome, New York.
Well, I said I'd be scarce, and by God scarce I was. Do I win a prize?
Just caught up with the posts from late last night and all day today, and of course today's notes. Lots of stuff that should be commented on, and it will be, but I'm on the verge pulling a vixmom and falling asleep at this here iPad, so it will have to happen at another time.
-
Vibes of health and wealth and a very good weekend to all.
-
Page four? Oh dear.
-
This needs to change.
-
I am not really feeling very well tonight.
-
And it is without a doubt, something that I ate.
-
Today I met my friend, Sharry, for lunch.
-
We had a wonderful time chatting about everyone we know, plus a few that we don't.
-
There was a birthday party at the big round table next to us.
-
It was all men.
-
There was probably 12 gentlemen, including the birthday boy.
-
The birthday boy was celebrating his 90th birthday.
-
I would say that all of the guests were about the same age.
-
Hold that thought!
-
Page Five!
-
Back to the party....
-
It was really cool to see this group celebrating one of their own.
-
I have no way of knowing if they these men are old friends dating back many years, but I would guess they are mostly new friends who possibly live in the same retirement center.
-
They all seem to be regulars at the restaurant, since all of the employees knew them.
-
Hi, TCB!
-
Just returned to Deep in My Heart. James Mitchell and Cyd Charisse dancing to One Alone was remarkable. I knew he could dance, but that was one of these most genuinely erotic dances I've ever seen on film.

You are up late. It must be a Friday night!!
-
Do you have plans for the weekend?
-
Anyway, I would be hard pressed to come up with 12 people my own age, and I am only turning 65. Take away the age restriction and I could fill several tables, but not my own age.
-
I didn't check the age of the men, but they all seemed to be right around the same age.
-
It was cool to see.
-
I have just lost so many friends from AIDS that it would be hard to gather a group around my age.
-
We kind of lost a whole generation
-
Had a nice meeting with the lighting designer and have hired her. We now have our creative team.
-
If I was to live to age 90, I would be the only one at the table. Well, except a couple of cute male nurses, and maybe an off-duty hooker!
-
Had a nice meeting with the lighting designer and have hired her. We now have our creative team.
When do you start rehearsals again?
-
I am sorry, BK, that the campaign did not go well.
-
Then my sister and her husband told me that a friend of their has a scooter that he would be willing to get rid of cheap!
-
It doesn't come apart in pieces, so I couldn't load it in my car, but I could use it around my spacious apartment, until I get the one from SS.
-
I will find out more this weekend.
-
Do you have plans for the weekend?
I'm speaking on a panel tomorrow about rose' wine. And more dancing.
-
I am sorry, BK, that the campaign did not go well.
I am, too. That was quote the horror story of good advice not heeded and all those best laid plans ganging aft aglee or whatever that Burns chap said.
-
I don't know, maybe I should just forget it.
-
I'm off to bed. Good night, all.
-
I suppose I could buy a lift for the back of my car.
-
Which I had hoped I wouldn't have to do.
-
It doesn't come apart in pieces, so I couldn't load it in my car, but I could use it around my spacious apartment, until I get the one from SS.
Could you use it around your neighborhood?
-
It is getting late, even if it is a Friday night.
-

Could you use it around your neighborhood?
The apartment building is built on a pretty steep hill, so I am not sure I could make it up and down to the street / sidewalk.
-
Six!!
-
A table of 90 year old friends is impressive. I'm sorry you have lst so many friends.
-
Thank you.
-
Are you feeling any better, or at least not worse?
-
Are you feeling any better, or at least not worse?
I'm okay. Lunch just wasn't very good.
-
Glad you are ok.

'night
-
G'night!
