My morning was made the moment I saw the title of the notes.

Great, great stuff... further opening one's eyes to the world of Capitol Records.

It's High Time (RCA) that I looked over my own modest inventory of Kenton and blasted some to the neighbors.

Good morning, all!!

I slept late.  For the past two days I have been dragging through the day, and i needed to sleep. I had a very strange dream about being in a hotel/hostel/dormitory in Austin, TX although I now have no memory of why the dream placed me there.  A concert entrepreneur for whom I once wrote arrangements put in an appearance as well.  And there was a music store and an LP.

Morning, all! Happiest of birthdays to JRand & Jose!

Not familiar with the Kenton albums. Will have to take a look for 'em. I have a couple of jazz West Side Stories (Richie Cole's and Oscar Peterson's). Jazz was never really my "thing," but I've enjoyed many albums featuring alternate takes on scores that I loved.

And suddenly, there was no light.

My internal clock told me it was around (or about) 6 a.m. this morning.

My eyes told me differently.  My bedroom was dark.

I got up anyway and checked the clock.  It was 6:01 a.m.

WTH?

It was not dark at 6:01 a.m. YESTERday.

I mean, I knew it was coming, this earlier darkness, but it seems things happen SUDDENLY here in Oakland.

There is no gradual darkening...or lightening.   I noticed this a few years ago when I got off work at 5 p.m.  (I now get off at 4:30 p.m., but that's not important).  One day, the afternoon was approaching dusk and the next day, dusk had descended without so much as a how'd'ya do.

Happily, my internal clock told me that regardless of the quality of light (or the lack thereof), it was still time to get my butt out of bed.

When I departed home, I had the quality of light I was used to upon arising from bed.

I love Capitol Records!  Home of the Beatles AND The Beach Boys.

HOWEVER I hate Capitol Records for one thing.....I am pretty sure they were the company that started using that stupid album cover that had a flap the opened like a book and then you pulled the record out of the middle of the cover.

NOT a gatefold cover that was solid and the record came out the end of the back.....

I can't find a good picture of what I mean.....

Ode to Change (with apologies to song's writers):

Everything's been changed
Nothing's like before
Things I did before
I do no more
They're all behind me
Everything's been changed
Since this morning's dark...

Yes that cover DR RLP and yes DR CHAS SMITH it went THE WRONG WAY.  The Lost Horizon cover was even worse because it had a graphic on it that was cut.

The Supremes Sing Funny Girl and the Wild in the Streets soundtrack LP also had those covers.

Happy Birthday to me....I left my script at the theatre last night, and I am not secure enough in Act Two, so I will have to go down there a couple of hours EARLY so I can work on it.

Always check your bag.....always check your bag.....

We have gotten three notices that the line notes will be a little late because there are so MANY of them......she wasted her time....and now she wants to waste ours.

We're grownups....not students.....and since we did each scene twice, we'll get twice as many notes....  And she didn't bother to check with the stage manager to get the lines that we changed, so she keeps giving us prompts based on the script in those places....

I guess the Lost Horizon LP was more of an envelope type thing than a flipback.  And I guess the idea was that you flip the front all the way to the back and not just open it like a gatefold LP.

I thought it was a Capitol Records thing.....maybe I was mistaken.....it has been known to happen.

I got three pages of crap like this.  I'm leaving now to get to the theatre so I have a couple of hours to go over Act Two.  Not that it will help.

GILLETTE   16   A       Line Said: "There is no means of escape for you this time."
Actual Line: "There is no means of escape this time.

16   A       Line Said: "I'm afraid you'll have to this time."
Actual Line: "There is no means of escape this time."

17   P       Line Said: "You see, they compromise…"
                Actual Line: "Because they compromise…"

17   S       Line Said: "A young lady who made one mistake…"
Actual Line: "A young lady who made one small mistake…"

17   P       Line Said: "Get out! Now! I never want to see you ever again!"
Actual Line: "Get out! Now! I don't ever want to see you again!"

17   P       Line Said: "…we have nothing left to say except goodbye. My presumed friendship…"
Actual Line: "…we have nothing left to say but goodbye. My supposed friendship…"

A bunch of years ago I was sitting in on a rehearsal of THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA, and because of the regular person's absence, was asked to follow along and give lines or correct anything egregious as they ran through it.  I decided that Mr. Tenn. Wms. was not going to be shafted on my watch, and they got their lines tightened up damned well that night.  Everyone was happy with it, too, and with my style (I was right on them, prompter-style).  That was 1997, and I expect to be asked back at any moment.

Yes there was exactly one peanut butter chocolate donut thing left. Someone had bought one just before me and this morning some yahoo ordered over forty donuts all of which were chocolate and a bunch of which were the chocolate peanut butter thing

Well, I'm off to the movies.  A friend e-mailed me, asking if I wanted to go to the movies with him for free!  He volunteers at the Olympia Film Society and gets free tickets.  His girlfriend doesn't want to go, so I said that I would.  We're going to see Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qfmAllbYC8).

Be back later.

My friend didn't get my e-mail in time, so he never came down to the theater.

Since he was going to give me a free ticket, I didn't go by myself and pay for a ticket.

The problem with this 26-year old videotape is that there is a clicking sound all through the video. :(

I'm at the intermission section and the clicking is less noticeable than at the beginning of the tape, but it's still there.

Don't know if this can be of any help, or if the resolution would be any good, but as of a couple of years ago the entire ALNM broadcast was on YouTube (in several parts).

Damn.  I thought I'd downloaded it, but if it's here, it's on some other hard drive.

It's really interesting to see how differently the "Live from Lincoln Center" program itself is.

I had seen that too, ChasSmith, but didn't download it because I knew that I had the videotape.  Obviously, I didn't check my tape in time to record it without the clicking.

I've been watching RAFFLES on DVD. I read the stories many years ago and loved them, then purchased the video. Acorn had the collection on DVD for $10 and I grabbed it. I do enjoy these stories and Anthony Valentine is wonderful as the scoundrel Raffles.

Back from a good rehearsal.  We did run the show, but I told Sami to take it easy on her voice.  She's finally begun to get through the monologues where she was consistently going up on the same lines - I think there were only two spots where she fumfered, otherwise it was all correct.  And she really is getting the pacing of the show down, too.  Still hard work ahead on the storytelling aspect, and we're going to try a new approach to the start of rehearsals.  She's been sleeping in the car and her mother has refused to get her up until three minutes before rehearsal.  Obviously this results in a bad mood and groggy person and we can't have it anymore - I've gone on about it for weeks, including this morning, but our stage manager came up with a good idea of her call being fifteen minutes earlier than our start time.  At that point, the stage manager will take her and get her warmed up so she's ready to go at our proper start time.  If that works, everything will flow easier and be much more fun.

Watching a bootleg of Finding Neverland with Jeremy Jordan and the first American cast. What a bore.

Not all the talent in the word can save a horrible score and a lousy way of telling the Barrie story.

Listening to The Shearing Piano - what a CD - it has the original ten-track album, which was a life-changer for me, but also includes an additional ten tracks of unreleased music from those same sessions.  Astonishing.
