Title: KRITZERLAND AT STERLING'S 61
Post by: bk on September 07, 2015, 12:46:12 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Kritzerland at Sterling's 61, and now it is time for you to post until the sixty-one cows come home.

Well, even though I have the day off from work today, I don't have the day off.  Every Labor Day, the local Labor Council holds a picnic for union members and this year, I volunteered to help (we always do the cooking).  This year (every year?) it's held at Stan Hedwall Park park in Chehalis, which is about 25 miles south of where I live, so I have to get up early enough to get there early enough so that I will actually be there on time, which is officially at 11:30 am.

Have a good day, all!

But I wouldn't go anyway.

I've got some work here today. I'd like to finish the score layout for "I've Got To Get Back To New York."  Most of my week will be tied up with transferring my notes on Moross orchestration from my score of Gentlemen, Be Seated! to the score for the copyist. I'd like to get that mailed to him by the end of September.

I like almost all nuts. I think there's just one nut I don't like, but honestly I'm not sure what it is. The problem is if I'm eating a handful of mixed nuts, and put several in my mouth at once, I can't isolate what was the nut I didn't like so I can avoid it. I should just eat them one at a time.
I've been eating a quarter cup of raw almonds every M-F for a few years now to help my cholesterol. I prefer them roasted, but I believe raw is supposed to be healthier.

Last night's Krizterland show was fabulous! I know I haven't written about a show in a very long time and I'm sorry about that, but I'm always in a rush to get to work the next morning. But today is Labor Day, so I'm going to have a very relaxing day and maybe just do some yard work, which is desperately needed.
The accidental gift that Bruce referred to in his notes was that his voice went up kind of high unexpectedly and his inner Don Knots came out. And, as he said, he went with it and did several very funny Don Knots impersonations.
Often Bruce likes to ask "Who has been here before?" and "Who has never missed a show?" To the second question, there's only one person who can applaud and that's Adryan Russ, so there's really no point in asking the question because if there's someone who's been to every show and they're absent that night, then they've now missed a show, so... .  It is always amusing though to hear Adryan clapping by herself, and I guess that's the point. :-)
The "What If" was very funny. I think it was longer than most, but wasn't too long at all. And you really didn't have to be all that familiar with "Pacific Overtures" or "Peter Pan" to enjoy it. You only needed to know what Bruce explained at the beginning about the plot of "Pacific Overtures". And if anyone in the audience doesn't know the plot of "Peter Pan"...well...then...you know. The funny thing was that I told Mark we should be listening to "Pacific Overtures" in the car on the way to the show, but we didn't have time to look for it. Instead, we had the "Stages/Together Again" CD in the car and we listened to that, which was also very good because we were familiar with those songs by the time we heard them in the show. Anyway, I am more impressed with Jenna Lea Rosen every time I see and hear her. Being Sondheim, the melody seemed complex and difficult, and she was so great with it. I'd like to see her in a show of her own sometime.
"The Dressing Song" has always been one of Mark's and my favorites from Michelle Nicastro's CDs. I couldn't imagine someone so young being able to pull off all those lyrics, but Hadley Miller was amazing. I walked past her after the show and told her how great she was and said "what a lot of words!" to which she rolled her eyes and exhaustingly said "Yes!"
Sharon McNight's "Haiku" was laugh-out-loud funny and Bruce mentioned that she picked the song herself, which was interesting. Jason Graae's "Mimi" was also hysterical.
"The Man I Love" is almost always done unbearably slowly, but this jazzed up version was soooo much more enjoyable. It's the first time I've ever really liked the song.
And everyone seemed to really enjoy "Note to Boys". Or at least Mark and I really like that song and the sign language goes so nicely with it. Bruce doesn't usually do a lot of his own material in a show, but with this song and the songs from "Stages", this Kritzerland show probably had more of Bruce's material than any other, which was fine by us. I really like quite a few songs from "Together Again" (now that I've finally heard it) and it would be nice to hear some of those songs in future shows as well. Note to Bruce.

I think i may be making it worse by biking, but i'm not willing to give that up. My new bike has different handlebars. Does it feel better when you run warm water over it?

Thanks everybody for the thumb vibes.

Hmm, I think you need to protect it somehow so you stop jamming it.  Bubble wrap it or put it in a sling so you can't move your hand around, depends what you are doing that you are most likely to hit it.

I have tried everything. I have tried wrapping it. I have tried icing it. I have made a sling. And it felt good while it was in it. But then it was hurting a lot when i took the sling off.

I think i may be making it worse by biking, but i'm not willing to give that up. My new bike has different handlebars. So i don't need to grip it with my thumb on the other side of the handlebar.  I thought by just keeping my thumb with my other fingers that it would not put pressure on it. But now i think it might be putting some pressure.

:(

Does it feel better when you run warm water over it?

You might have to go to to the doctor if it doesn't get better, if only for a referral elsewhere or to be give a proper hand support for it.

Yes I will probably have to have someone look at it. The weird thing is that it doesn't hurt at all if i don't use it. And even typing ... you wouldn't even realize that there was a problem.

We all know, or I think we do, that peanuts are legumes and not really nuts. While munching on pistachio nuts I thought I would be clever and divide "nuts" into their proper name group.

Doing so turned out to be far more complicated than I expected.  There are also seeds, drupes, and angiosperms, depending on which site I read.

I don't care for whole almonds all that much and sometimes they can still trigger a slight allergic reaction.  As a child I spent many a miserable time drugged up on allergy meds and cold clothes on my eyes after accidentally touch an almond with my mouth.

I buy slivered almonds and toast them.  I put them in salads, eat them whole, add them to baked foods and fudge this way.

Drove out of town for lunch with friends to a place that I've been wanting to visit for years. It's been in business since 1929, first as a dance hall, then as a restaurant since the 1980s.

We got to Po Po's and I started to feel ill. I soon had no appetite, even for the burger that I had been craving for awhile.

When I got home, I discovered I was running a fever. Took some aspirin and have been sleeping off and on ever since.

I haven't felt that well today. I think it's the high humidity.  I did mow the yard and got the laundry done.

You don't need to, DR FJL - I was just teasing.

I'm hoping we get some of the rain that's heading our way, maybe it would get the humidity out of the air

Life has just been crazy busy.  I'm still way behind at work and spending time with mom and dad Friday night and Saturday really drained me.  I think if I was there all the time it may be easier that to see how they've failed since I was there last.  It's very hard

Thanks for the vibes. Am enjoying a filmed production of The Rivals tonight. It is about as light and frothy as I can pay attention to.

Sorry Cilla.  You see them fairly often so it must be faster than you would expect.

Just realized if we win the semi final and make it to the championship series, I'll have to choose between an evening with Audra McDonald with the orchestra or the baseball game.....I didn't even have to think....baseball.   A year or two ago the answer would have been completely different

Sorry Cilla.  You see them fairly often so it must be faster than you would expect.

I speak with them every day, but I haven't seen them since my surgery.  I try to go once a month, but it's been a little less often than that.  I really only speak with my mom on the phone, rarely to my dad, so he's the one who surprised me the most.

As for me I have been battling a kidney infection for the past five days. Waiting to hear back from test results. Since kidney disease runs in the family I am a little concerned.

Just got news that a family at church has been in a rollover that left the 42-year-old mother dead. Her husband who was driving apparently fell asleep at the wheel. Their daughter and an aunt were also in the car and sustained injuries. Really sad news.
