I'm up. Barely.

Temperature is down, almost to normal. I drank a hot toddy before bed and seem to have sweated it out of my system. But I still feel weak and of groggy focus.

TOD:
I have a really hard time watching movies that center around dogs. They always have such sad parts mixed in with the happy parts. The movie Bruce watched would have had me sobbing uncontrollably. I am intrigued by the Budapest Hungary aspect since I am a full-blooded Hungarian Jew (not a mixed breed). The only other movie I know of that takes place in Budapest is "Little Shop Around the Corner", which is delightful, of course. Anyway, I really can't think of a movie with dogs that I really love, except "Cats and Dogs" which really didn't have any sad parts (I don't think).

It's amazing to me how much I was able to sleep on Friday.  It was obviously a response to all the tension that had been building up during the week by the jury selection process.

For the record:  I do not mind serving on a jury.  My one experience doing so was rewarding.

BUT, and this is the big butt (!), the selection process is infuriatingly maddening!   90 people in my jury pool and about 85 of them were called and asked the same questions, had the same things explained to them.  ALL of them were asked "yes-no" questions and ALMOST all of them hemmed and hawed and then launched into verbal essays.

The courtroom is in our Superior Courthouse one block away from where I work, but across the street.  I can see the courthouse through my boss' window right now from my desk.

There are three flights of steps in between each floor.  One takes the steps during breaks because it usually takes the elevators 5-10 minutes to respond to a call on each floor.  The seats in the audience of the courtrooms are wooden.  Not comfy at all.  ALL DAY WEDNESDAY.   ALL DAY THURSDAY.

So on Friday, my body kept resisting all efforts to get motivated.  I had coffee, some brunch and then back to bed around Noon.   L-a-z-y day.

On Saturday, a co-worker treated me to weekend brunch at Brenda's French Soul Food (http://frenchsoulfood.com/)in San Francisco.  I had eggs benedict with creole hollandaise over fried chicken and cream biscuits plus a side of yellow grits with cheddar cheese!  Add three cups of coffee with chicory and that was me all over.

Sunday was quiet, as was Monday.  Watched movies, napped, putzed around, did nothing else.

Monday was a hot, hot, hot day in Oakland CA.  Temp hit 95 degrees...and that is HEAT STROKE weather in the Bay Area.  I praised myself all day for having bought two new portable AC units back in the Spring.  I thought the summer would get hot and it has not let me down.

We expect to be hot each day through Friday!

Back from a chopped salad with some avocado bits thrown in for good measure, and a bagel.  It's over 100 degrees out - the weather  this summer has been the most disgusting I can ever recall.  And it's not abating anytime soon, which means we'll have to have the air on in the theater, which I hate because it blows on people really strongly and if you make it too cold people simply don't laugh.

I can't believe what I've had sitting in the Music Room for at least a few years.

In seeking out used records I'd occasionally find something signed or inscribed, which can be just as rewarding as finding something like that in books.  Well, I just happened to be moving some sh stuff around today, which caused me to glance through a half dozen or so signed albums I'd set aside, and will ya get a load of this one.  I've never even played these, but that will be rectified.  The vinyl will get a proper cleaning and a quality sleeve, and we'll see what it sounds like.  The notes tell me that Brian Torff was Shearing's bass playing partner at the Concord (California) Jazz Festival.  The record is copyright 1980.

They should always ask if you have any medical issues that would make it difficult for you to sit through the case.  There are always breaks etc

Well then, you can register to vote and not worry about it.  Truthfully no one wants a juror who isn't going to pay attention because of medical or other issues, well unless you have a really bad case, lol

It is 99 degrees in Oakland right this very minute!   Merde!

Holy moley.

Earlier this evening it was 91 here in Danbury, 90 in NYC, and 90 in Miami.

DR Ron, I was hesitant to register to vote because I don't want to go through that.  I'm not sure a note from my doctor in Ashland would get me out of that.  My restlessness during the process might though.  I would have to get up and stretch, pace, something. My body could not stay in those seats.

They should always ask if you have any medical issues that would make it difficult for you to sit through the case.  There are always breaks etc

Without giving too much info, the note from my doctor easily got me out of it in Oregon.  I cannot simply trust breaks.
Well then, you can register to vote and not worry about it.  Truthfully no one wants a juror who isn't going to pay attention because of medical or other issues, well unless you have a really bad case, lol

I did register when I got my driver's license.  I hesitated for half a second when I was asked if I wanted to register ;D

I didn't know you and Noel were pen pals

Back from our first dress rehearsal - show itself went pretty well - some line fumfers and some dropped energy toward the end, but overall it was really fun.  Still some work to be done on the costumes but the lighting is now terrific.

Who?

David Letterman retired and Stephen Colbert got the job.
