Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of session one, and now it is time for you to post until the session cows come home.

I was going to post this last night (actually, just a few minutes ago) but the day got locked, so I couldn't and here it is now:

Sorry that the antenna didn't work, George.

Thanks, Tom.  My sister's boyfriend can have a try and he will have more time for him to experiment with it.

Well, I need to go to bed.  Today at work will be our annual All Staff Training Day.  All the libraries will be closed an everyone (who doesn't use a day of vacation) will congregate at St. Martin's University for a day of guest speakers, a free lunch and snacks, break-out sessions, hand-outs, employee recognitions, free stuff from some companies, free pre-publication advance reading copies of books, etc.

Today's keynote speaker is a former CEO (I think) of Disney (this is correct).  HOWEVER, this one man has been scheduled to speak for, get this...TWO-AND-A-HALF HOURS! :o What could one person talk about to a captive audience for two-and-a-half hours??

He'd better be good.

Post by: George on September 16, 2015, 12:40:50 AM
One of the break-out sessions that I'll be attending is about e-readers and other devices, and the different options for getting downloadable material from the lbrary.  We were told to bring our devices with the apps for OverDrive, Zinio for Libraries, Freegal, and Hoopla already installed, which I do.

So, since I'm bringing my tablet, I might be able to post during the day.

I can see about Sami and I signing - if anyone is interested just send me a private message.  We'd have to open the packaging to do it, but if you're okay with that I think we can make it happen.  Oh, and I'd say this is kind of a rave review:

Good morning, all!  The Social Security payment has landed in my bankl account and for the first time in a week I have some money. So, first thing this morning I see my barber. Following that, I shall stop by the apartment of the recording's musical director and drop off the score that raised all the neuroses over the weekend. When I get home, I will finish up the last Moross number and prepare to return to Columbia tomorrow.

I am singing a funeral this morning at a cemetery chapel. I didn't know the deceased. She was an organist and lived to be over 100.

The family has requested "You Raise Me Up" (think Josh Groban) and "On Eagle's Wings."

My colleagues were kind to be flexible so that I could get away from work for a few hours.

It never stops, does it?

I am still recovering from my ankle surgery, and we got word from the doctor yesterday that my wife, Sandy, will be having another neck/back surgery (her 5th) next month.

They are going to remove/replace 4 discs in her spine.

She will be in the hospital for 4-5 days, then wearing a neck brace for 2 months after that.

What a goddam frustrating morning! I got to Staples to make my copies only to be told the photocopiers were down. I wasted that time getting to Fed ex to use their.  The 104 bus was late, and the No. 5 bus was not only running late but it was packed because of that. That meant a long really lousy ride to St Patrick's and Rockefeller Center. I saw my barber and then waited 20 minutes for a  crosstown bus that was due at 9:33. I got to the music director's late and dropped off the music with his doorman, then went out to the bus stop and waited for an uptown 104 bus, but because of construction, the buses are not stopping there. I So, I had to find where the MTA asses had moved the stop; they never give any information.

I am very glad to be home.

This morning I had a friend request on Facebook.  To preface:  Those who've read Kritzerland, the middle book in the trilogy, may recall a character in the last twenty pages called Betty Bremers, someone Benjamin becomes friends with in junior high school, and hangs out with after his only "friend" shines him on.  In fact, he shares his first real kiss with Betty in the back row of the Four Star Theater seeing Where the Boys Are.  I have, over the years, searched for the real Betty but no luck - and yes, I used her real name for the book.

Well, this morning's friend request was from Betty Breemer - no wonder I've never been able to find her - I'd lost an "e" and added an "s" - the latter probably because of the singer Beverly Bremers.  And yes, it was THE Betty.  I accepted her friend request, then went to PM her and she'd sent ME a message that had gone to my "other" folder on Facebook - I do not understand the purpose of the "other" folder and find it extremely irritating.  She remembered me well and spoke of a date we had seeing West Side Story.  I of course remember that, but also reminded her about seeing Where the Boys Are in the back row of the Four Star, leaving out the part regarding the kiss.  She wrote back immediately and said she remembered Where the Boys Are, adding "My first kiss."  Isn't that funny?  We're talking something that happened fifty-five YEARS ago.  I told her about the Kritzer books and will be sending her a set.

Over in England, there's a new version of Anthony Trollope's novel, The Duke's Children, which is the last of the Palliser novels, if you watched the TV series.

It's double the length of the original version, so it's like having a new Trollope to tempt us.

Unfortunately, it's only in England now.

Well, he was good, but he wasn't a former CEO.  His name is John Formica (http://www.johnformica.com).  He worked for Disney in their hotel division and helped create "the Disney experience" for visitors.  It was all about the total experience, not just being happy.  He was very successful and eventually left Disney to become a very successful motivational speaker.

I agreed to be a docent for a neighborhood house tour tomorrow night. There will be 10 houses on the tour altogether; the house where I'll be volunteering is a lovely old Victorian - 6,000+ square feet, built in 1907.

I read that as " I agreed to be decent for the neighborhood".    I was beginning to wonder if there had been a petition

Nope.  I was wrong about the CEO part, but he was very good and I was surprised that I was engaged the entire time.

That's so sweet. :)

It's raining here in Tumwater, and has been for about an hour or so.  Not a huge downpour, but still needed.
