Title: SESSION TWO
Post by: bk on September 17, 2015, 12:54:20 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of session two since session one was so yesterday, and now it is time for you to post until the two cows come home.

Speaking of which, when I watched the 1972 Once Upon a Mattress the other night, whatever copy they used had all of the original television commercials, and they left them in. It was kind of fun seeing how much everything had dated. And almost every one of the products advertised therein is no longer. Including Blue Bonnet margarine.

As for the show itself - Carol Burnett was, of course, wonderful. But I wasn't thrilled with the adaptation. Many songs were cut, and the ones that remained had verses and chunks stripped out of them. The book seems to have been edited quite heavily, as well. Oh, and Lady Larkin is played by a very young Bernadette Peters.

I have watched a bit of the black-and-white 1964 version on YouTube. I'm not positive, but I think it may suffer from the same editing issues. I guess that comes from presenting a full Broadway musical in a two-hour television time slot. With commercials.

Good morning, all!  I am under the weather. I'd ratrher be sick now than the week of Oct. 5, but it's certainly cramped my style. Beginning around 1:20AM, I was up and down and restless most of the night.  So, I slept late. I should have stayed there longer.

Another night of peculiar dreams: in the first I was either in Midsomer Murders or I was watching it, it's that vague now. Then I had a dream that had to do with college or some summer theatre and a production of CANDIDE, with a lot of friends I have not seen in years. The last one had something to do with BABES IN TOYLAND and the song "Evaline McCook" AKA "She Was a Country Girl."

Last night was not The Game's Afoot, but A Comedy of Errors.....many technical cues were fluffed and some of our gang were dropping their lines all over the place.

I lost my microphone and had to keep replacing it on my ear.....

And during the struggle with the dead body, when the worst actress in the world is supposed to ring the buzzer and interrupt us....she was off being busy talking to someone....

Our lively group of college students stayed for a talk back which was most interesting.  The first question was, what's up with the blocking?  Which made me feel very good, hearing the director try to justify his "organic" blocking which left a lot of the people on the sides showing their backs to the audience.  He couldn't......

Good morning, all.

Seemingly normal dreams, but with an abstract overlay that simply can't be described -- to myself, let alone anyone else.  Wearying, too, as though the activity in the dreams was actually tiring me out.  Interesting, and at least benign, but just as glad to be up and at 'em.

Coffee!

To answer properly, I'll have to run my eye over the DVD/BD collection and jot them down.  There are the "big" ones, like 20,000 Leagues and Mary Poppins, certainly -- but quite a few others for various reasons as well.

I know I saw Twenty-Thousand Leagues Under the Sea at the Stadium and I'm pretty sure it was when it came out - when it hit the neighborhood theaters.   But I also know I saw Song of the South there and that must have been when I was five or six during its reissue.  I liked both films.  I probably saw Old Yeller back then, too.  But it was, of course, The Parent Trap that I loved best.

DR JOHN G I love the soundtrack for THE ONE AND ONLY GENUINE ORIGINAL FAMILY BAND.....but the movie not so much.

And I wanted to like THAT DARN CAT, but we don't see any of the main stars for so long at the beginning - we're bored to death by a couple of minor characters talking and talking and talking.....I want Dorothy and Haley and Dean!

re: the other folder on facebook.

It can be annoying if someone you want to hear from has a message go to that folder. But as long as you check it regularly I don't mind its existence.  I don't really want messages from people who I don't know going into my regular messages.  Women get creepy messages from men saying they want to be our "friends".

My pre-op was a bit of an adventure. Here we are, in the midst of a severe drought, and it POURED. We desperately need the rain, but thankfully it had decreased to a heavy mist by the time I needed to leave the apartment. Jan got a bit lost trying to find my apartment, but traffic was light and that helped. We had no trouble finding the parking structure, but we turned NE out of the structure (zero signage) and got caught in a maze of construction, with stairways to nowhere. As it turned out, we should have turned NW, but of course we didn't know that.

I was scheduled for two appointments: the first with the staff to take eye measurements, and the second with the surgeon. I never did see the surgeon. That appointment proved to be with a counselor, who reviewed things with me and obtained the consents. It went fairly smoothly, but there were several things which were not at all what I can expected. I was given a half dozen hand-outs, detailing what I should and should not do, but some of it was contradictory. I spent an hour on the phone with them today, trying to sort all that out.

Oh, I almost forgot. I'd been wondering if there was such a thing as readymade eyeglasses to help with distance. Readymade reading glasses, sometimes known as "cheaters", have been around for many years. What about the opposite?

I found Adlens adjustable lenses. They're inexpensive glasses, designed for emergency use, such as if your glasses break. At each bridge there's a little thumbwheel which you turn to adjust the lens. The power ranges from -6 to +3. They do not correct astigmatism. I'm a -8, with a fair amount of astigmatism, and was really surprised at how much my vision was improved. I bought a pair to help me through the time from the second surgery until I have a new exam and new glasses. The optician adjusted them to fit my face properly.

Here's the website:

Am i the only one who actually enjoy "The One and Only Genuine Original Family Band" - I even found myself humming the Grover Cleveland salute during the debate last night.

I haven't seen it since it came out but I remember it was entertaining.

If cast, I would be playing a bigot.

Someone's going to play the role.  Why not you?  It's probably a good role and you're a good actor. :)

If you get it, Maybe Jane and Keith can come up to see it and we can all have a mini-HHW reunion!  And/or Jed and Ann might be able see it, also.

Yes.  Good idea.  That reminds me.  My dear son, Jed, has been cast in the male lead role in RABBIT HOLE at Tacoma Little Theatre.  I believe it opens in October!

Busy little day.  Had a chopped salad and a bagel, picked up no packages, and then had to do a bunch of work.  We had a pick-up rehearsal and that went well, then I stopped at Gelson's and got a few drumettes for my snack, along with some melon balls.  Then I watched the two-part PBS Walt Disney documentary - I know people have raved about it, but I had some real problems with it - for me, it seemed like one of those DVD or Blu-ray documentaries.
