Well, you've read the notes, the notes were Spartacus, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're Spartacus, too.
-
And the word of the day is: ALEXITHYMIA!
-
First post after BK!
-
That sounds like a really interesting play, DR George! Looking forward to your full report.
-
~ ~ ~ VIBES, VIBES, & MORE VIBES ~ ~ ~ for DR elmore3003 this morning!!!
-
Very interesting notes today, bk. I don't know much about film, but I certainly enjoy reading about it.
-
Good morning, all.
Must get going soon. It's about time for: Pancakes! Bacon! Coffee!
-
Here's to a very great day for DR Elmore!
-
Today's moment of Zen:

I will hopefully get to revel in SPARTACUS this weekend.
-
Good morning, all! I slept in this morning. This is The Big Day with The Big Event tonight. Keep those vibes coming!
-
I will spend today at Randy & Jo's working on tonight's presentation. I have the gist of it, but I need to prepare a few more note cards and try to run though what I think I will say.
-
Yesterday at Wright State I had a wonderful session with the musical theatre history class on orchestration and arranging. We listened to Twiggy's "Dancing on the Ceiling" and I praised BK for his monaural 78 to stereophonic bloom idea for the song, why the arrangement was so 20s dance band inspired, etc. we also listened to Kim Criswell's "The Boyfriend Back Home" as an example of period recreation based on what clues you've got to work from. There were lots of questions and I liked the interaction between me and around 20 students.
-
Then I went to a song preparation class; there were two singers ion the hour: a girl who sang a very dark song about serial killing and erotic compulsion called "Circus" (I think) and a boy who sang "Joanna" from Sweeney Todd. They both took direction very well, although the boy was amazing at his speed in selecting things he was offered when he sang the number again. That really impressed me.
-
After lunch, I drove home. Then I spent my evening with DR Ginny, Richard, Rob, and Mary Linda. We had Shaddock's pizza, which iI love, and it was a lovely visit. My drive home was shaky because it's too dark in the country and I completely missed Randy's house. I finally got home and went straight to bed.
-
This will be quite a chapter in the memoirs.
-
BK, your name was mentioned several times. I gave the students some of your CDs: Rebecca Luker, Jason Graae, Liz Callaway, Unsung, and Lost In . . .
-
I'm very glad to hear that DR Jeanne is okay. Thanks, BK, for the update!
-
DR TCB, I want some photos of you in your lethal scooter. I hope you are mowing down any jerk in your path.
-
This will be quite a chapter in the memoirs.
Only if I survive tonight!
-
We had a wonderful stormy day yesterday-- big thunder- big dumping of the water! Wonderful!

RE: SPARTACUS
I recall John Ireland telling me that his role in the film was originally supposed to be a two week job. He was supposed to be killed when Spartacus and the gladiators broke out of the gladiator school.
But, Kirk Douglas liked John and he insisted on keeping him on the film until the final big battle scene.
How's that for an unimportant film fact?

Try not to get tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail! :D

Vibes for DR Jeanne!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
The best of vibes for DR ELMORE on his presentation tonight....I am sure all of the students you have already met will be there for you!
Maybe Randy needs a reflector on his mailbox.
-
Ohio vibes for DR CHAS SMITH.
Philadelphia vibes for DR VIXMOM.
-
I like SPARTACUS, but I am sure that I haven't seen it as it should be seen. I think I had/have the restored video, but haven't watched it all the way through.

My question for ASK BK DAY:
Have you signed up for Medicare yet? You could save some money!!! And you get some of your health care costs covered. You paid for it. Get it!

That would help a lot!

I think Pam Myer, who first sang the great "Another Hundred People," will be there. She just asked me how to get a ticket.

Checking in from one of the local homeless shelters...

Glad to hear DR Jeanne is doing well after surgery.

Good morning from The Big Apple!
Give our regards to Broadway, DR KevinH!

Not necessarily in that order.

Send her a message or can you reply to one of her posts about tonight?

My notes are organized and I am informed. Still scared shitless, but informed.
-
I meant to mention last night's paranormal activity last night at Randy & Jo's. I haven't felt anything spooky here since 2006, but last night, just before I headed to DR Ginny's, I saw something walk past me in the living room. at first I thought it was Jo, but she was outside with Randy who was mowing the field.
Then, this morning, around 2:30am, something banged loudly on the closet door in my bedroom. That really creeped me out.
-
And Randy told me on Saturday that one night not long ago, as he was driving for a pizza, he saw an apparition dressed in buckskins and holding a musket standing in the middle of the road. In summer 1969, around midnight, I saw an apparition of a woman on Route 73, walking into the middle of the road. I nearly hit it.

Randy's big German shepherd Blaze has been sleeping outside my door. He will protect me.

Breathe, DR Elmore, breathe!
-
We're fine so long as I do not vomit on the floor.
I'm beginning to see the humor in this.

My question for ASK BK DAY:
Have you signed up for Medicare yet? You could save some money!!! And you get some of your health care costs covered. You paid for it. Get it!
Not yet, but soon.
-
I'm up, I'm up - weird dreams and maybe eight hours of sleep.
-
Glad elmore is having FUN!
-
July 28th my new desk and chair were delivered.
-
August 3rd, after two days of attempting to reach a live person in customer service, I finally communicated with someone that I could not roll my chair around.
-
Today someone is finally coming out to fix it. I have little faith that the new wheels sitting here to go on the chair will make a difference.
-
The repair person is also supposed to have the parts to fix one of the doors on our new buffet. I will be pleasantly shocked if those parts arrive with the person.
-
Good afternoon, all.
-
I am Spartacus.
-
Great selections, Elmore, for the orchestrations class. Love both of those cuts.
And I'm so glad you're having a great time. Enjoy all of it.
-
More vibes for DR Jeanne and anyone else in need.
-
I seem to have wrenched something in my lower back. No dancing and not much walking for me tonight.
-

Always thought Pam Myers would have sung the hell out of Leona in Do I Hear a Waltz?

Glad elmore is having FUN!
Yesterday, yes. Today, I'm having a nervous breakdown. I leave in an hour and I don't know what I'm doing!
-

Yesterday, yes. Today, I'm having a nervous breakdown. I leave in an hour and I don't know what I'm doing!
Yes, you do. But enjoy the anticipation, the buildup, the anxiety, the being alive part. Remember: Someone in your audience is going to be going commando. You get to decide which one it is.
-
I also haven't showered and dressed yet because I do not want to get dog hair all over my suit. Pray for Rosemary's baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Did you get a new suit?
-
I will reply to Miss Pam on your thread DR ELMORE.
-
Sending you the BEST vibes for a successful evening DR ELMORE - I am so excited for you - fun!

Thanks, Sing! I don't know what the run time is, but I should be able to report back before the end of today.
-
Checking in to send last-minute BREAK A LEG VIBES to DR Elmore!!!!
-
Very interesting notes today, bk. I don't know much about film, but I certainly enjoy reading about it.
Ditto and ditto! I'm going to Costco at my lunchtime to see if they have it in stock. However, they don't really seem to have very many DVDs or Blu-rays anymore. :-\
It seems to be the end of that era.
-
I seem to have wrenched something in my lower back. No dancing and not much walking for me tonight.
~~~Better Back Vibes for DR John G.!!~~~
Always thought Pam Myers would have sung the hell out of Leona in Do I Hear a Waltz?
Her version of "What Did I Have That I Don't Have?" from Lerner, Loewe, Lane & Friends (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Lerner-Loewe-Lane-Friends-1998-STAGE-Benefit/4843/) is my absolute favorite version. As much as I love me some Babs, I LOVE Pam's version of that song. :D
-
And speaking of Spartacus, does anyone else have THIS (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Spartacus-1992-Studio-Cast/1521/) studio musical version from 1992, featuring Catherine Zeta-Jones (who sounds really good on it) and Anthony Hopkins as Spartacus? (Don't worry, it's a spoken role. ;) )
Back from a patty melt and no fries or onion rings.
Ouch! Vibes you are much better by tomorrow!
Good news from MR BK on the ASK BK DAY question.
Reporting in from the Fitton Center! There are photos on Facebook that someone might be able to post here. Can't do it myself with my phone. So far, so good!
-
Thanks DR Ginny. I will go to facebook to see them :)
-
The sign is very nice :)
-
If the photo of DR elmore can also be lightened up before posting it here, that would be great. :)
Thank you DR Singdaw. I can see our dear elmore, looking very dapper indeed, much better now.
-
Larry, I'm glad to see you wear your cap even when all dressed up in a suit. I love the look!!!!
-
Great photo!!!
-
Have fun at the choir DR SINGDAW
-
Great photos. Thanks, Sing, for sharing them.
-
George, that Spartacus musical looks scary to me. Very scary.
-
Five!
-
Watching the filmed stage version of Driving Miss Daisy with Angela Lansbury, James Earl Jones and Boyd Gaines. The beginning is fun. Should be a good 90 minutes.
-
George, are you planning on taping the upcoming versions of Show Boat and Chita Rivera that are going to be on PBS?
-
Hey, I guess the world didn't end today.
-
Well, we have four more hours in my time zone.
-
George, that Spartacus musical looks scary to me. Very scary.
Originally, my niece found out about the 45 that featured Catharine Zeta Jones on the front and found it on eBay. She asked if I would bid on it for her and she'd pay me back. I think the final cost was over $40 (she wanted it and paid for it). She didn't know about the whole recording until I searched eBay and came across it. I got that for myself (and it only cost me about $35). My niece had no interest in Anthony Hopkins or the whole show. Anyway, the recording is okay and didn't really hold my interest. But of course, I would never get rid of it.
;)
I hear ya. Got quite a few of those myself.
-
Well, it's time for me to leave so that I can usher. I'll have a report when I get back.
Until later!
-
Found a movie at the library today called "My Old Lady" with Kevin Kline, Maggie Smith and Kristin Scott Thomas. Has anybody heard of it? With a cast like that, I'm surprised it's a straight to DVD flick.
-
Back from philly
-
I saw ads for My Old Lady but if it actually mDe it to our local theatre I missed it but then again as I get to the movies maybe. Once or twice a year you really can't go by me
-
Well I woke up at 5:30 and got showered and dressed and the Vixter got up at 6 and drip over me to the bus pickup site
-
The ride in was uneventful except for a bingo game in which I won $2 and a string of red mardigrasx beads
-
There were a couple of disappointments We were supposed to have at least 90 minutes (which would not have been long enough) and we only had 45 minutes and instead of the promised lunch at reading market we ended up at a second rate overpriced Chinese buffet with lukewarm food. The supposed reason for the change was that this allowed us to walk to see the liberty bell after lunch (which we did get to do) but my suspicions were aroused by the glowing recommendations prior to the lunch "best selection of food in the city!" The fact that the tour guide was joyfully greeted by name by the staff and that she didn't pay for her lunch. I may be uncharitable and jaded but I suspect she collects an envelope each week based in how many tour group she steers there
-
Also wonders of the Vatican tour and e spend 45 minutes in the exhibit and. More than an hour t lunch ?
-
Great photos. Thanks, Sing, for sharing them.
Thank DR Ginny - they're her photos! :)
-
That being said there were such beautiful things there to see
-
Maybe I should just drive down and see it again on my own
-
I am looking forward to hearing all about Elmore's big night
DR vixmom - the thing I like about Philadelphia is that it feels old - well, old for America. You feel like you're closer to the history there.
-
The candlelight street tours at night are quite fun.
-
John g I had occasion to mail several envelopes from my workplace to yours in the past two days.
No wonder he's put his back out.
Larry, I'm glad to see you wear your cap even when all dressed up in a suit. I love the look!!!!
LOL! I had meant to make a joke about the cap before the presentation got into swing, but I was so nervous I forgot!
-
Is it just me? Or my computer? The past few days it is taking me over 4 minutes to log in or out of HHW.
-
I will let DR Ginny weigh in on the event. I thought there were some good laughs, some wonderful moments, and some horrid slips of the tongue and missed opportunities to be clearer. The curse of being insecure, I guess. Still, I can relax now and enjoy my last two days.
The best part was the number of friends from so many parts of my life who surprised me by showing up.
Back vibes for John G
-
I knew you would be wonderful Lar!!!
-
Started watching "Five Flights Up" with Morgan Freedman and Diane Keaton. They feel so right together that you can believe they've been married for 40 years. The quality of the script, however, is debatable.
-
I knew you would be wonderful Lar!!!
Thanks! I think DR Ginny did, too. I had my doubts.
-
The table for dinner was great: me, DR Ginny and Richard, Randy and Jo, Kim and John Minor who worked in community theatre with me in the 1970s, and Henry Cepluch who recommended me for this presentation. I thought the dinner was lovely, and I really liked the white zinfandel (sp??).
-
Very glad to hear the event was wonderful. Not that we thought it would be otherwise, of course!
And yes, you will regret the missed opportunity moments and such. I am haunted by those things all the time. Just let it go and, like you said, enjoy these next two days to the hilt.
-
I had my doubts.
In these cases it's better to have your druthers, instead.
-
And the Macbeths didn't show up and try to make a scene?
-
And a few more of DR Ginny's photos:
And, we're home from a fun-filled and fact-filled evening at Fitton Center! DR Elmore did a fantastic job and seemed very relaxed. The reception and dinner beforehand was lovely and he even ate, which he was threatening not to do last night. The house was decent and people laughed at the jokes and applauded at the end. After the first jerk who just wanted to hear his own voice, there were some astute questions and a very nice compliment from a lady sitting in front of us. Here is a link to the photos I took - remember, I'm no photographer and just had an iPhone:
Found a movie at the library today called "My Old Lady" with Kevin Kline, Maggie Smith and Kristin Scott Thomas. Has anybody heard of it? With a cast like that, I'm surprised it's a straight to DVD flick.
We watched it a couple of nights ago and thought it was excellent.
Great. I'm looking forward to it.
Paper is finished. And I'm done for. Good night, all.
-
Finished with my viewing.
Well, it's time for me to leave so that I can usher. I'll have a report when I get back.
Until later!
Well, the play was good. It's about a guy and a girl on a blind date and the guy comes to the girl's apartment, but the girl's neighbor comes over (they've been friends for a while) and he brings a woman who is wearing just a t-shirt and underwear and she (the scantily clad woman) never says anything except when she's the voice of a sock puppet named Joyce Carol Oates (not THAT Joyce Carol Oates, but one exactly like her and had written books exactly like the ones she's written), who is the girl's great aunt.
-
It's the day after 9/11 (September 12, 2001) and the girl doesn't know what happened to her identical twin sister (who is never seen in the play, so the actress doesn't have to make excuses to leave so that her twin can be there).
-
In a very weird set of coincidences (which they discuss) it turns out that they boy met the identical twin sister in NYC and probably recommended that she take a job in one of the twin towers, and that happened just a couple of weeks before the attack on the towers.
-
Anyway, they discuss the events of that day, free will versus destiny, what they want on their pizza, things like that.
-
Overall, I enjoyed it. The actors were good, the set was a simple apartment, the script was...interesting, but pretty good.
-
And I say "interesting" because the show starts with the stage manager coming out and saying that they need someone from the audience to help determine which version of the play they will start performing.
-
The audience member flips a coin (heads or tails) and every time we (the audience) hear a ding, the actors will go in a different direction. Kind of like a choose-your-own adventure play (my thought, not their description).
-
But, at the top of the second act, the "stage manager" admits that she's an actor in the play and it's all scripted and there are no actual different versions. I guess it's a riff on their "is it free will or destiny" discussions.
-
And now, I'm home. :)
-
And now, to ketchup.
Is it just me? Or my computer? The past few days it is taking me over 4 minutes to log in or out of HHW.
I have not had that problem. :-\
The table for dinner was great: me, DR Ginny and Richard, Randy and Jo, Kim and John Minor who worked in community theatre with me in the 1970s, and Henry Cepluch who recommended me for this presentation. I thought the dinner was lovely, and I really liked the white zinfandel (sp??).
That's great, Larry! Congrats on the successful talk and the reunions!
And, we're home from a fun-filled and fact-filled evening at Fitton Center! DR Elmore did a fantastic job and seemed very relaxed. The reception and dinner beforehand was lovely and he even ate, which he was threatening not to do last night. The house was decent and people laughed at the jokes and applauded at the end. After the first jerk who just wanted to hear his own voice, there were some astute questions and a very nice compliment from a lady sitting in front of us. Here is a link to the photos I took - remember, I'm no photographer and just had an iPhone:
