Just finished reading The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo by Michael Butterworth, the novel which inspired the musical Lucky Stiff. It was a delight from start to finish.

Here's the blurb:

Kritzerland is proud to present a new limited edition world premiere release – four great scores on one CD:

VICTOR YOUNG AT PARAMOUNT VOLUME II

THE PROUD AND PROFANE

FOREVER FEMALE

LITTLE BOY LOST

MY FAVORITE SPY

Music Composed and Conducted by Victor Young

Paramount and Victor Young – one of the greatest studio/composer relationships in history.  Over the course of his career, Victor Young received an astonishing twenty-two Oscar nominations (in 1940 and 1941 he was nominated four times in the same year!). But he would not win the golden statuette during his lifetime – he won the Oscar for Best Music (Dramatic or Comedy Picture) posthumously for Around the World in Eighty Days.  Some of his themes are among the most beloved of all time.  For this CD, we are proud to present four world premiere releases.  They are a diverse gathering that beautifully illustrates how he could write for any kind of story.

First up is the 1956 Perlberg-Seaton war film, The Proud and the Profane.  The film was directed and written by George Seaton, and starred William Holden, Deborah Kerr and Thelma Ritter.  Young wrote a memorable and beautiful main theme for the drama, which weaves in and out of the score in many guises.   It’s a wonderful score and classic Young.

Next up is the 1953 film Forever Female, starring Ginger Rogers, William Holden, Paul Douglas and Pat Crowley.  This time it’s Victor Young in full-out sparkling mode, beginning with a lilting and lovely waltz that then morphs into some fun big-city music.  The score is like a glass of champagne – bubbly, effervescent and sophisticated.

Also from 1953 we have another George Seaton film, Little Boy Lost, a drama starring Bing Crosby.  It’s a compelling film about a World War II correspondent whose French wife was killed by the Nazis, returning to France after the war to try and find his son.
Little Boy Lost has a superb Victor Young score, right up there with his best.  Originally there were only three surviving cues from this brilliant score, but in a last-minute bit of serendipity, almost all of it was found and so it’s a real treat to be able to present just about everything from this Victor Young classic.  The score has just about everything that made Victor Young one of the greats.

Finally we have My Favorite Spy, a great 1951 Bob Hope comedy, directed by Norman Z. McLeod (who also directed the Marx Brothers’ Horse Feathers and Monkey Business). Young’s music suits the film perfectly, underscoring the comedy and intrigue with panache and a grand sense of fun.

All scores have been carefully transferred and restored by Chris Malone from the elements in the Paramount vaults.

Victor Young at Paramount Volume II is limited to 1000 copies only and is priced at $19.98, plus shipping.

CDs will ship by the third week of December, but we’ve been averaging three to five weeks early in terms of shipping ahead of the official ship date.  To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

HA!  This is will be my first Kritzerland release to be paid for by my GoFundMe donation.  I forgot about it for the previous release and paid.....

Oh well!!!

Sounds wonderful!  I like FOREVER FEMALE except for the exaggerated way Ginger Rogers says "allimuny"....she sounds like Ricky Ricardo.

Good morning, all! I am in much discomfort today.  I had a very restless night, thanks to this bum leg, with many strange dreams.  I remember only bits now.

I do remember that between 12:15, when I woke out of a deep sleep, and 2:45, I was wide awake in much pain and unhappiness.

Tonight is the FULL MOON so watch out for the .... uh .... moon crazies.

So with this strong Gemini Full Moon and its challenging square to Neptune in Pisces, we have to re-align our mind with primal truth.

This square can seem to dissolve our reality but it offers us a chance to see a deeper reality.

At this Full Moon, our Gemini minds want to play with possibilities. Our Sagittarius soul wants to find meaning and purpose. When the two unite, the possibility of finding Wisdom is profound.    :D

I received a package today.  But I was not expecting anything.  I brought it inside - and it was addressed to 20 Fairwood Ct. NOT 20 Fairlane Drive......  This is the cul-de-sac around the corner from my house.

I put on my shoes and took it over to where the mailman was pulling stuff out of the back of his truck and handed it back to him.  He seemed a bit put off.....but I thought at least that would save him from having to pick it back up at my house and carry it around for the rest of his route until he got to Fairwood.....

I've been through 3.5 hours of hell.  Reminder to self: never be on the streets looking for a cab in rush hour the night before Thanksgiving.  Traffic is absolutely scarier than the film, and because of the traffic trying to get the hell out of Dodge at 4:309, a taxi ride to Charlotte's from the theatre usually costs with tip $7-8.00.

the taxi ride cost me $22.00.  Color me not amused.

So, I got home and my computer was down.  After 45 minutes with Time Warner, the very nice young lady suggested, after determining that it was not the ethernet or the Wi-Fi, suggested I call AppleCare.  Three hours later, after a 30 minute dinner break, my computer is running smoothly, thanks to two nice men from Apple.

Charlotte and I enjoyed Victor Frankenstein, which was quite interesting and nicely acted by James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe.  There are a few gross moments, a few scares, but it's mostly a very black comedy about the insanity of friendship and how to create life.  I laughed a lot, wished there were not such reliance on CGI, and enjoyed the ride.  Under the laughs, I could hear Mary Shelly spinning in her grave.

We also saw previews for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, due in February.  That really made me laugh.

Speaking of computer issues, our very own BK has been rather adept at system admin lately. Out of necessity, methinks.

I understand that Apple Care will take calls now, free of charge. It used to be that if your Apple Care had run out they would still help, but bill you. The guy at the Apple store told me there's no charge now. Much better!!

Today the hose for our kitchen faucet arrived.  The company forgot to mention that the old one would not simply slide out of the hole.  After an hour Keith finally got the old one apart and removed it.  Then installing the new hose was fairly simple.  Washing the dishes is much easier now.

The second set of new doors for our buffet, to replace the damaged door, finally arrived.  Once again they are the wrong color.  At least this time they sent new hinges with it.  We will have those, or just one, replaced and live with the door as it is.  You really don't notice it is broken until you open it.

I am very glad I decided to stay home for Thanksgiving.  We are under a winter weather advisory tomorrow that will start with drizzle then freezing drizzle, maybe some freezing rain and then about 3-4 inches of snow.  I will be here alone, but that's fine.  I have had my turkey thawing in the fridge for a couple days.  It's still partially frozen, but I can finish that off in the sink if need be.   I'll stuff the bird then cook it in a Reynolds cooking bag.   I'm going to make cranberry sauce, twice baked potatoes and some broccoli.   I'll make sweet potatoes on Friday or Saturday to eat with left overs.

Went out with friends tonight for an annual Thanksgiving Eve bash. It was fun, except for the service, which was atrocious. The kitchen screwed up several entrees and the server disappeared for 30-minute stretches. No water glasses refilled, no drinks refilled, etc.

The main difference is not the size of the scooter, but the fact that this new sccooter has three wheels rather than four.  That allows the scooter to turn on a dime.  But, yes, it is a little smaller.

It is beautiful out today and we have a lovely view of Mt. Hood.   With the full moon I might be able to see it on m evening walk, depending if the clouds cover the moon or not.

Our local forecaster just showed a satellite photo and there is not a single cloud anywhere over Washington State.

the service, which was atrocious. The kitchen screwed up several entrees and the server disappeared for 30-minute stretches.

I am always unsure what to do about the tip in these situations. It has to be pretty bad for me not to leave 20%, but sometimes I really do want to leave a clear message that the experience was not OK.
On the other hand, kitchen screw-ups aren't always the server's fault.

A dilemma.

The three-wheeled scooters are the only kind I had ever ridden, until I bought the four-wheeled one.  I suppose there is some decrease in stability, but once you get used to it, you never think about it.

The one time I went to New York in 1995, we were told to always tip the waitstaff because they were probably starving actors and needed all the tips they could get.  If we ever had bad service or food, we should tell the manager.

My idea was to keep the one scooter in the apartment and the other one in the trunk of my car.  But with the current Olympic-sized swimming pool in my trunk, neither one can go into the trunk

Will you be able to get the water problem fixed?

I hope so, but not before the reading next Thursday.  I need every hour that I have left.

I considered backing out of T-Day at Sharry's, so I could work all day without interruption.  But I must go and meet my new nephew, Frasier.

Maybe next Thanksgiving, we can have a nationwide HHW get together in your fair city, and finish off the day with a turkey dinner in your home.

If that were to happen, I would darned well learn how to pull it all together.
