Well, you've read the notes, the notes had little to no pith, and now it is time for you to post until the pithless cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: RUGOSE!
-
First post after BK!
-
Jane, what are potato chip cookies? They sound gross.
-
T.O.D.
I have caller I.D. And if I don't recognize a phone number, I just let it go to voice mail. If they don't leave a message I figure it was either a wrong number or a solicitor.

I do the same thing. On average, I only get a few blocked or unknown calls a year...probably not more than four or five a year.
-
Jane, what are potato chip cookies? They sound gross.
Cookies made with crunched chips added, instead of something like oatmeal.

I probably get two to four unknowns per day.

Aren't they pretty salty?
-
Sweet and salty. The ones I had were not too salty.

Okay

I think I might be able to fall asleep...'night.
Happy to be able to help!
-
George, have you not been feeling well?
-
George, have you not been feeling well?
I feel fine...why do you ask?
-
Well, I'm off to sleep. Good night, Tom.
-
George, have you not been feeling well?
I feel fine...why do you ask?
I don't know, I was just wondering. You went to bed so early last night.

I never really get enough sleep, mainly because I usually just stay up too late. So, if I just get an urge to make myself go to sleep and not linger on-line, I go to sleep. I'm never consistent about when I go to sleep.
-
Well, good night, George.
-
Good night, again. :)
-
I guess I should probably go to sleep, too.
-
That doesn't mean that I will.
-
TOD: Especially during December, lots of evening calls from non-profits looking for donations. That seems to have calmed down for the moment.
-
TOD:
I hang up.
-
Good morning, all! There were too many dreams last night, but the last one had friends from past and present: two lesbians who owned a bookshop in Oxford, Ohio, who were very much like my friends Pam and Shirley from Middletown, OH; our E&T DR Jose, and others.
-
I have few plans today; I'm mainly waiting to hear from Joshie about going to City Center to proofread whatever's ready. This may not happen until tomorrow but it would be nice to finish some of the work today.
-
Good morning, all.
I know there were dreams, but not one is coming into focus.
-
Coffee!
-
TOD
We get spam calls every day, and can readily identify the likes of them with Caller ID, and we try never to pick them up. You get to the point where you can recognize the type of phone number and "name" for the absolute bullshit they are. I'd say they average two to four per day. There's the occasional day when there are none, and I begin to think the phone is broken.
-
Since I am rarely home , I miss any calls that may come through as they all go to voice mail. I rarely have any solicitation messages left, so I guess if they are calling they are not leaving messages. I give my cell # to people I want to hear from, because that is the best way to reach me, since ,as I mentioned before, I am rarely home.
-
And I am back from the dentist. They open at 8 today so I called at 7:45 thinking I would leave message... The dentist picked up himself, said he had just had a cancellation and he could see me right way. His office is just a few blocks away so by 8 am I was sitting in the dentist chair

LOL, it was late.
-
DR Vixmom it sounds like he was able to fix your tooth without the need for a return trip.
-
Good morning.
TOD: I don't answer the phone and we don't have caller ID. If anyone wants us, they leave a message. We also turned off the ringer, so we don't even hear the phone ring.
If you know me, you probably have my cell number.
-
DR Vixmom it sounds like he was able to fix your tooth without the need for a return trip.
It's a temporary fix. Another crown is in my future
-
But first a couple of root canals, a couple of implants and a permanent bridge
-
I believe I am now our dentists favorite patient
-
Since it appears I will singlehandly be paying for his son's bar mitzvah
-
I had better receive an invitation
-
I'm up, I'm up, only five and a half hours, but I guess I'll try to zone out later and get another couple of hours.
-

Too bad. At least the next visit won't require an injection to numb it.
-
HA!
-
But first a couple of root canals, a couple of implants and a permanent bridge
I either forgot or missed the part about root canals. You have my sympathy.

I am using the OLD OLD OLD Apple G4 computer.....and it is slower than a stubborn mule.
I am not sure I will be able to post much until I get my computer back. The man said probably TUESDAY!!!
He said there were more problems than he thought....which is about what I thought.
So we shall see. I shall return......
-
As I was posting the post above the phone rang - this time the caller ID identified them - I think next time I'll pick up and tell them I'm reporting them if I get one more call and reference the huge fine and payout they're having to do. I will also tell them I'm recording the call - that's one trick to get them off the line instantly.
-
Good morning
-
TOD - I never answer the phone unless I know who it is - and even then.... well, nevermind.
-
I'm off to a Jerry's Girls vocal rehearsal. We'll see how they all sound as a group. Individually, they are are top notch. There are 16 of them!! Of course, a few have conflicts today, but that's how theatre works now.... and this is why I've grown to not like doing it!
-
I've been searching for photos of the interior of the original Tower Records store, and they seem to be quite scarce. Scarcer still is anything on Tower Classical across the street (I've found nothing so far on that one). But I found this page with a photo and two videos that, in spite of their primitive quality, are priceless:
http://psychrock.com/tower-records-on-sunset-in-1971/
Edit: Those videos didn't fully load for me on Firefox, but worked fine on Chrome.
-
BK, have you watched the documentary "All Things Must Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Records", and did you comment on it at some point? If you did and I'm forgetting, I want to go back and read it.
I'll of course watch the thing with hope that it will be worthwhile, but this type of thing so often leaves much to be desired.
-
Also, BK, do you have any photos of the record store in Beverly Hills you loved as a kid -- the one in the Kritzer books, and where I think you started on Brubeck?
I guess we could say I'm in record store mode today.
-
And I get very pithy about record store closings.
-
Today, out of the blue, the post office delivered the two packages from Monday and Wednesday, after amazon refunded me the full amount. So, I had to contact Amazon and ask them to bill me again for them.
They're killing me!
-
Had a good and quick work session, did a tiny bit of futzing and finessing, had a slightly irritating e-mail that will hopefully turn out fine, and had an omelet and a bagel.
-
In a completely irritating turn of events, next week's Kritzerland show is moving to a slightly earlier time that day (the 17th). The club took a last-minute booking that paid a lot of money and so we can't do the evening. If it had to happen on a show this one is the least problematic. So, doors will open at three, show will be at four, but the good news is there will be NO food or drink minimums. Unbelievable really, and perhaps the end of our time at The Federal, unless they are willing to abide by what I want should this happen again, which is that if they cancel or change us less than three weeks ahead of a show, they will have to pay for the singers, musical director, me, and the co-producer. I think if there's a cost involved they will think twice about this crap.
-
I'll see if I can find any photos of the record store - I've never actually looked. Haven't seen the Tower documentary.
-

If you want them to hang up quickly, you could answer the phone with, "Hello, you're on the air!" That would probably scare them. :))

Don't they know expenses are involved?
Vibes the change goes well and maybe even to your benefit.

Ditto and Ditto!!

I don't feel the need to engage in conversation or offer explanations or threats when I answer a sales call I just hit the disconnect button and go on with my life
-
Hello, everyone.
-
MEGA dental vibes to Vixmom!
That includes lots of $$$$ to pay for it.
-
Did you know that the average dentist makes about $400,000 per year? That figure is actually several years old, so I suspect the number is higher now. They earn more than many doctors.
-
I am thankful that I receive very few sales calls, which I attribute to the fact that I have no landline. I occasionally receive one on my cell phone, but not often (once a year).
-
They really gall me, too. You'd think that at some point I'd become immune to them, but I haven't. A while back they started saying, "This is a courtesy call..." Oh, really? I'd respond, "This is a SALES call and there is nothing courteous about it!' Arrgghh! How dumb do they think people are?
-
I don't mind an email offering services of some sort, but I really hate the phone calls.
-
Bruce, I'm surprised and again galled that The Federal is so inconsiderate. That is YOUR slot! A pox on them!

A G4? Wow! I'm surprised you're able to use it at all.
Computer repair vibes to you!

Jane, glad you have your luggage back. Many years ago a suitcase of mine was sent to the wrong airport. It was returned several days later, minus a couple garments. Do be sure you have everything.

I love that approach!
-
Good to hear that Vixmom's dentist had a cancellation. Perfect timing!
Vibes the temporary crown holds up throughout the VixVacation.
-
Speaking of vacations, I hope that DRGinny is enjoying Boston. Is it still considered a business trip once you're retired?
-

Thanks. I'm relieved to say we seem to have everything :)
-
I've been doing the usual around the apartment today. I didn't have time in December to do nearly as much tossing as I'd hoped. I'm trying to stay in the "get thee out of here" mood a while longer.
-
Good afternoon, all.
Or is it good evening already?
-
Been dancing too early this morning and then took a nap when I got home.
-
A few more hours of dancing awaits tonight.
-
I'm a dancing fool.
-
But we got all new routines today for waltz, tango and foxtrot. Simpler, more straightforward, but still something to memorize. And try to make look good.
-
We're getting a bit more rain. Rain was in today's forecast a few days ago, then reduced to a 20% chance. I don't think we'll get much today, but in a drought every bit helps. It won't take us out of the drought, but it does help the plants.
-

How fun! It's good exercise, too.
-
Congrats on the rain, Jeanne.

TTFN.
-
George, I've been listening to the OBC of Nine. I do have the London, the Banderas and the movie, but I most often return to the double disc version of the original.
-
Congrats on the rain, Jeanne.
Thanks, but it wasn't my doing. :D
-
Can we move this to page four?
-
Four!
-
Time for some lunch.
TTFN.
-
I had a friend on Facebook who said that if he won the lottery tonight, he'd share a million with whoever liked his post. Needless to say, I liked it. I don't even know this person.

Liv Ullmann is back in the theater? I love her. Except in Lost Horizon.

Off to dinner. Talk to you all later.

Well, I must be off. Theater Artists Olympia is having a fund raiser tonight and I'm selling tickets and concessions at the door. We have a small space, but I think it's going to be used effectively...hopefully.

Have a good rest of the day, everyone! Be back later!

I have stunned everyone into complete and utter silence.

Why do I always have that effect on people?

Saturday evening greetings! This has been a good conference day: board meeting and book discussion with the Retired Members Roundtable, a great program with author Andre Dubus III, book buzz with 3 publishers, and a cooking demo by French cook Béatrice Peltre. I had a good fish & chips dinner in the hotel's pub and now I'm snug in my room to watch the Cincinnati Bengals try to win a playoff game - Who Dey!
-
good evening to all
-
had a frustrating day. I overslept and was almost late for work. I was late leaving work and went to get to get my car and the battery was dead. Luckily I was able to get it jumped and then went to Sears to have it replaced. One would think that they would make a battery that would last more than 2 1/2 years and a car that has gone less than 20,000 miles. An unexpected expense and a missed dinner engagement because of the follies of battery. (Cut number from the Loveland sequence from Follies)

TOD
I'm on a do not call list.
It doesn't always work, but if I don't recognize the phone # or its from a city I've never been to, I don't answer.
-
I finished futzing and finessing, and have thus far written eight pages. I'll definitely do a few more before the end of the evening - at least two, but maybe four or more if I'm feeling adventurous.
-
TOD: we got so many telemarketing, scam, and political robocalls that we finally did away with our landline. Richard and I now have different phone numbers in two different area codes, which makes it look like we don't live together. But we do :D
-
DR Ginny it sounds like you had a nice day.
-
The "do not call" list in my opinion only stops local sales people, if they have been reported in the past.
-
I had a lovely after dinner walk and now I'm falling asleep. I hope my jet lag is better by tomorrow.
-
Bryan gave me a fitbit for Christmas and today is the first day I used it. I'm not sure if it is counting my steps correctly or giving me extras. Since I put it in my pocket this morning I have walked 24,711 steps. ???
-
TOD : Don't even get me started.....I get about 6 or 7 a day for the past year, ie pre caucus time. I usually don't answer, but occasionally I think what the heck. The last few were survey, survey, survey, Carly Fiorina, Bernie Sanders and Rand Paul
-
I will not answer a survey because it's nobody's damn business who I want to caucus for.....well that and I'm not sure yet who I want to caucus for or even if I'll caucus Republican or Democrat
-
I of course have caller ID, but when, for example, you're on the phone and you get an incoming call and it's a regular number in your area code, the inclination is to think it's real. That's what these nefarious butt cheeks do now - spoof real phone numbers.
I'm lucky that most of the political parties have set up either out of state or in Des Moines, which isn't my area code. I don't get other types of calls. I think you can do the do not call list for those. Do Not Call doesn't apply to political calls
-
I don't mind an email offering services of some sort, but I really hate the phone calls.
You can just delete an email or read it if you want to and when you want to. When it's a phone call, it disrupts what ever you are doing. I think it's a lot different and agree with you, DR Jeanne
-
The "do not call" list in my opinion only stops local sales people, if they have been reported in the past.
But if you register for something or sign up to win at a home show or other thing, then they can call you
-
It's going to be the coldest night of the year. It's one degree F air temp at the moment. So I made home made ice cream. I still had the cream and whole milk from the batch I made a while ago. Butter pecan, yum
-
I must say there are times with this new book that I am having such giddy fun. I'm just typing and smiling and occasionally laughing at the antics of one of the characters. I'm coming into an especially giddy section right now.
-
I've done over ten pages so far and will now take a break, then do at least two or three more, because if I do two or three more this evening then I am officially halfway through this book. Amazing since I began writing a week ago yesterday.
-
DR Ginny it sounds like you had a nice day.
I did, DR Jane. Thought about taking tomorrow afternoon off to do some sightseeing, but it's supposed to rain and there's a high wind warning. So I'll just listen to some more publishers' previews and wander the exhibit hall.
-
I am looking forward to reading this book, bk
-
Good evening, ladies,

The follies of battery could only improve Loveland!
-
Jane, I am so happy that you get your luggage back.
-
Vixmom, I am glad you got your.... temp back.
-
I sucked royally at rehearsal today. My lines in the second act just won't stay in my tiny little brain.
-
Good evening, ladies,
I say "hey" to the ladies, and they both leave!
-
I am afraid to say anything to John or Fred.
-
Ginny, I am sorry that the Bengals defeated themselves.
-
Six!
-
And both gentlemen left. And so did John and Fred.

But one returned.
-
How are you, TCB?
-
Nephew #2 was born today!! Henry William Selenger - very serious name! He's adorable and doing well
-
Sorry about your battery, Michael. That has happened to me. Funny thing is, this battery is now better than it was when I bought it. I had to have jumped twice in the first two months. No problems since (knock wood).
-
Just in from a dinner of Vietnamese food and dancing. Well, practicing dancing. I would have liked to have danced more and practiced less tonight.
The next competition is two weeks from today. The horror.
-
How are you, TCB?
Not too bad. You must be worn out.
-
Congratulations, Matthew, on the arrival of the new nephew!

Trust me, I understand the need to unwind.

I think we may have lost John again.
-
I need to go check my e-mails
-
You've lost me now. I had gone off to do a sudoku. It's an addiction, I know.
-
Good night, all.
-
Finished with my writing for the day. Sixteen pages, and halfway through the book.
-
Jane, I am so happy that you get your luggage back.
Thank you Tom.
-
Now I'll put the motor car away, then I'll relax and listen to music.
-
I am afraid to say anything to John or Fred.
