A Very Happy Birthday to DR Elan!! :D
-
A whole book about Patrick Bronstein is a great idea! Can't wait to read it!
-
Topic of the Day: in my CD player AND my DVD player: The Bloody Irish! (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B018RZ7VA6/) I just happened to come across it on PBS a couple of months ago, but I'd missed the first hour. I'd search Comcast's OnDemand and PBS's website every once in a while, and PBS finally made it available for purchase (although, I actually bought it from Amazon)! But it turns out that you get both the DVD, which is about an hour and 25 minutes, and the CD, which is only about 33 minutes long...what's that all about?? Anyway, it's mostly traditional Irish music. This is from the booklet:
Set in Dublin during the Easter rising of 1916 -- the event that set the match to the fire of Irish freedom and forged the Ireland of today -- The Bloody Irish! uses rousing tunes like "The Foggy Dew," "The Minstrel Boy," "The Rocky Road to Dublin" and "The Tricoloured Ribbon," to illustrate the mindset of those who fought in the rising -- the volunteer fighters, men and women, the squaddies of the British army -- and the Dublin civilians, who hunkered down and endured it with gallows humour.
-
This seems almost like a follow-up to "The Irish...And How They Got That Way" (recorded by our very own BK), but just in the sense that it tells of the Irish through their music in a theatrical setting. :)

Hello from Fun City!
-
Glad you made it to North Carolina, DR vixmom !
-
Good morning, all! I am home today. There will be work tomorrow and Sunday for Monday's rehearsal.
-
DR vixmom, I gather from your encoded message last night that you and vixsas made a wise decision. I'm happy to know ypu are now south of the Mason-Dixon line
-
Well, my flight was delayed almost 2 hours but I arrived only an hour later than scheduled since they always says it's going to take longer than it does.
-
DR TCB, your friend's blurb on your show reminds me of several ensemble comedies from the 1980s and I wish I could see you in it. The photos are great.
-
I will shortly head to market for some staples and thngs for chicken stew. I plan to sped the remainder of the day cooking.
-
A friend and I saw Hamilton last night. it really is great. When I first heard about it I didn't think I'd be interested but I'm so glad I changed my mind Jonathan Groff is hilarious as King George and is a wonderful singer.
-
I see that the federal government is closing at noon today in DC. I imagine it I'll be closed Monday too
-
DR George, The Bloody Irish is coming from Dublin into Manhattan in April and will play at the Neil Simon Theater for two weeks. Several of the Orchestra of Ireland players are in the band and I look forward to seeign them.
-
I'm concerned that my flight Monday will be canceled so I'm making a reservation on Amtrak for Tuesday just in case. I'm using rewards points so I can always cancel.
-
TOD:
I was sent a review copy of BURNT with Bradley Cooper, so we'll probably be watching that.
-
Glad to hear the topic of BK's book. Sounds like fun !
-
Good idea for the book, BK. He is a fun character.
-
DR singdaw, Huckabee and these jerk GOP candidates of his ilk catering to the lowest mentality of red neck American hatred and prejudice are completely detestable. I'm sure Eva Braun thought Adolph was quite personable, too.
Much as I dislike Christie from observing his rants and ridiculous, childish behavior for the past several years, I really admired his handling of the hurricane mess. I felt the same about petulant Mayor Giuliani, who became the epitome of poise under pressure following 9/11, Then he went back to being a fool.
-
I think it's great that our DR ciillaliz is seeing every candidate and taking advantage of the ability to do so.
-
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday to Our DR Elan !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Sleep well DR Vixmom and enjoy the rest of you vacation. Thanks for letting us know you are safely past the storm.
-
Well, my flight was delayed almost 2 hours but I arrived only an hour later than scheduled since they always says it's going to take longer than it does.
Great :)
-
I've got a few little outdoor chores to finish up today before the snow comes tomorrow morning. Thankfully, we'll only be getting several inches, compared to the dump the Mid-Atlantic will be taking. Hmmm, that doesn't sound right...
-
TOD
Good question. Yes, that's a damned fine question.
-
I have been awake since 4:00.
-
Good news about the book! It sounds great.....right down my alley and up my street!

I'm FJL and I approve of that message.
-
Good morning, all.
I feel much better after having gotten close to 9 hours of sleep. I should try that more often.
-
Happy birthday, DR Elan!
-
Glad you made it safely to North Carolina, Vixmom. Vibes the rest of the trip is good.
-
I doubt I'll get the change to think about watching a video until Sunday night, but in the meantime, I'm listening to various recordings of Pal Joey and enjoying it, especially the studio cast with Harold Lang and Vivienne Segal.

TOD
Good question. Yes, that's a damned fine question.
That's a very interesting question
No one's ever asked me that question
Would you mind repeating that question
Say that question once again!

Friday morning greetings! It's cold and cloudy here in SW Ohio, but we're north of the "snow line," I think. Stay safe vibes for everyone in the path of today's storm!

I wonder if I have time to run to Staples? It can always wait till Tuesday.

So, BK, is this new book going to be like Little Me? Will there be photos? It's too bad Cris Alexander is dead. You and he would have been a hoot working together.
-
Looks like the Lumberton area still has some mix coming down, but it's moving out, as are the storms in central Florida. What a wild wacky ride. Those vixes should just take it easy the rest of the way!

I just ate a muffin - waste of time and calories :-(
-
Looks like I'll need to go back and read the second to last Hofstetter novel and the newest novel (which I haven't read yet) and refresh who Patrick Bronstein is. I'm horrible when it comes to remember things I've read.
-
Who are you again?
-
Hi DR Elan. I figured you would stop in on your birthday. I hope you are having a nice day.
-
He left while I was typing ;D
-
Hi DR Elan. I figured you would stop in on your birthday. I hope you are having a nice day.
Not doing too badly, thanks!
-
My copyist, Scott, on Gentlemen, Be Seated! lives in Durham, NC. He just sent me a note about the score and mentioned that the storm is really bad in Durrham with lots of ice. I think DR vixmom was very smart to leave last night.
-
The stew is finished and almost all pots, pans, utensils are washed and ready to be put away. The stew looks really good and smells terrific.
-
Is it snowing in NYC yet?
-
We just finished a lovely lunch at Cracker Barrel
My tummy is full of chicken n dumplings and sugar cured ham and meatloaf and sweet potato and carrots and baked apples (yes Chas I went for the sampler platter)

DR vixmom, at least you are now below the storm, I think. The food sounds deelish. I love chicken and dumplings. My dad's mother occasionally made thaqt when we went to visit in Kentucky, but that's been over 50 years ago.
-
Back from a visit with Grant - he's working on the cover - he had an idea and he's mocking it up. I'll probably have something to look at by the end of the weekend.
-
Then I had a sandwich and soup and proofed another chapter.
-

I'm pretty sure we cleaned off our cars before driving, however, I had no idea not doing so was dangerous.

There are a lot of things I don't agree with him about. Not going to support him, but took the free coffee

I think it's great that our DR ciillaliz is seeing every candidate and taking advantage of the ability to do so.
Thanks Elmore. I have to tell you, you really learn a lot about them seeing them in person as they appeal to their core voters. Sometimes I hear positions on issues I either really agree with or disagree with that I wasn't even aware that person had. I think I'm going to skip Ben Carson prayer service tomorrow. I'm not going to caucus for him and I have a headache.
-
I am also enjoying reading DR CILLA LIZ's posts about the political goings on in Iowa.....it's better than what we get on the news!
The news doesn't have a clue. I can't remember the last time I talked to someone who actually answered a poll. It's going to be interesting. Unless something crazy happens in the next week, I think I know who is going to win on both sides, but we'll see.

Interesting. I suppose you are going to wait until it is over to say if you were right or wrong.
-
Ben Carson's thing tomorrow was going to be a revival/prayer meeting to pray for saving the earth or something like that with Kirk Cameron and some Christian rock group. Now it's being billed as a prayer service for his staffer who died in a car accident on Tuesday. Carson is very religious. The interesting thing is there are a number of candidates who may split the so called evangelical vote. The biggest split will likely be between Cruz and Carson. That will help the Donald, who I still think will win

LOL, that's all he has. He does have a lot of sympathy right now. The car accident was very sad. I'm guessing they had someone driving who didn't know how to drive on snow and ice

He talks about God and religion more than anyone. He seems like a very nice and intelligent man, but I don't see him as president.
-
You did say who you think will win. :)
Yeah, I wasn't going to do that, but Ive talked to so many people who like Christie or Kasich or Fiorina or even Rubio but instead of giving them a little support to go on, they are voting for Trump because they do not want Cruz. They all have other reasons to vote for Trump, but the conversations always starts "Well I really like _____ the best, but..."
-
I only know a couple people voting for Hillary, most Dems I know are for Bernie
-
Vixmom, I am very happy that you are as far south as you are and are safe.
-
I wish Kasich had campaigned here. He basically gave a pass on Iowa, so I don't really know anything about him
-
And that's the politics for the day.
-
I saw the movie Spotlight this afternoon. It was a good movie.
-
I thought it would be the other way around, people voting for Cruz over Trump.
-
I have new running shoes and am about to go for a walk. Maybe I will run a little bit to test them.

I fon't think he has a brain, considering that he's a surgeon with little scientific knowledge.

I heard from my friend with cancer who had a session in Philadelphia this week to see how things were progressing. He reported:
I didn't get horribly sick for the first time, so we were able to get out of Dodge quickly and well ahead of the storm. Unfortunately, I have to go back in a month because there were some minor complications (non-threatening, just annoying) that prevented them from doing the whole treatment. But the good news is that they said they could see visible shrinking of the tumors that they treated last month.
Please keep those vibes coming!

I am now on Season 4 of Pie in the Sky. Much as I like it, I think this season's showing signs of running out of steam. God knows how bad the final season will be, but I'll find out in about three more days when I finish Season 4.
I think then I will finish up Season 15 of Midsomer Murders before tackling Broadchurch 2.
-
Thanks for the Vibes! My goal is a clean report in February.

I was just watching the kids Kritzerland videos I had not had a chance before. They were great!

It's going to be warm here tomorrow...in the 30s for the first time in ages.

DR elmore, excellent news about your friend. Continued Vibes!!!

It was 55 degrees here today and sunny. We haven't seen so much blue in a long while. I went for a very long walk this evening. There were lots of people out enjoying the later sunset and then the full moon.
-
I'm hoping it will be sunny tomorrow It's been above zero but cloudy and damp, so it's felt very cold.

Tonight, somehow I didn't get the door into the garage completely shut and Ricky got out. The outside garage door was shut, so he was in the garage. I didn't know he was there and closed the mud room door. It was quite a while later I heard him scratching to get in. It was a BIG adventure for him. I have no idea what he got into. He thought he was in trouble, but he isn't. I never leave that door open, sheesh! He's sleeping on the chair now. I'm sure he'll be bragging about his adventure to his sisters

I'm hoping that isn't the case. It could be media hype like we've seen before with the weather. I'll worry about it tomorrow when I try to get to City Center.

Back from an casual meal at the burgerjoint/bar down the road. Nice burger with thick sliced applewood bacon and provolone on fried Texas toast.... Oh it wouldn't have taken me that long to miss him. He sits in the chair with me at night. I actually think Boo was trying to tell me he couldn't get in from the mud room. I thought she was hungry. When I gave her food she must have forgotten all about Ricky
-
I'm just glad the garage door was down. He wouldn't have been able to get outside. He could have gotten in the mud room, just not gotten in the house. I always check the temp in the mud room before going to bed. It's also the laundry room, but only has a small electric heater so I have to check the temp before going to bed. There are coats etc in there and a cat carrier. He would have been fine.
-
I haven't done this in a long time, but tonight I just settled myself down in front of the TV and, in between catching weather updates, I've been watching those Diners, Dives, Burgers, 'Que, etc., food programs.
But just before doing that, I'd had this HUGE piece of brandy-soaked fruitcake...so it's not that I'm hungry now. I'm really not. But the kind of foodstuffs I've been seeing and hearing about, including vixmom's scrumptious sounding repast, can still get the juices flowing.

Hello, everyone.
-
Hello Jeanne
-
Add me to the chorus of those who were worried about Vixmom. I diligently checked the East Coast weather first thing this morning, then saw her post. I hope that after such a rough start the rest of the vacation goes very smoothly indeed.
-
Larry, so glad to hear good news from your friend. I wish him the very best.
-
Mom and Dad have received more than seven inches of snow in Louisville and it continues to fall. I tried to get Mom to forget about shoveling the snow away, but I don't think I succeeded.
-
Hi, Cilla. Or should I call you our DR on the ground in Iowa?
-
Hi, John.
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to DR ELAN!
-
Dance vibes to John G.
-
Performance vibes to TCB. Interesting photos.
-
speaking of the girls in the video, that Hadley Belle Miller is quite the little dynamo. They're all remarkable.
-
I was very pleased when I learned about the subject of the new book. Isn't it interesting that out of sixteen books, this is the first comic novel BK's written?
-
I've been watching season 2 of THE HOUR, the BBC series from a couple years ago. I loved season 1 and season 2 doesn't disappoint. Such wonderful dialogue.
-
Stay safe, stay warm.
Good night.
-
Dance vibes to John G.
Thank you, Jeanne.
-
Stay safe, stay warm.
Good night.
Yes, good thought. Stay warm, y'all.
And good night.
-
Grant sent me his mock-up of the cover - it's a lot of fun.
-
Back from a very exciting dress rehearsal at Orchestra Hall.
-
Belated ~ ~ ~ OPENING NIGHT VIBES ~ ~ ~ for DR TCB!!!!!!
-
I am somewhat amused at the Broadway-con thing. As TCB may or may not remember (although I have all the e-mails), our much missed den mother, he, and I were trying to do that very thing about fourteen years ago.
-

Whew! I am pooped. Need to go sleep.
-
But.
-
Since we're so close.
-
PAGE EIGHT?? REALLY??
-
Hi, Cilla. Or should I call you our DR on the ground in Iowa?
Sure. Seriously, you never know what's going to happen here on Caucus and thats part of the fun
-
Weather channel just said 300 cars stranded on interstate 75 in Kentucky. DR John G glad your folks are at home.
-
Tonight, somehow I didn't get the door into the garage completely shut and Ricky got out.
I'm sure you would not have gone to bed without him, glad he is ok.
Oh it wouldn't have taken me that long to miss him. He sits in the chair with me at night. I actually think Boo was trying to tell me he couldn't get in from the mud room. I thought she was hungry. When I gave her food she must have forgotten all about Ricky
It is easy to forget when food is involved :)
-
I haven't done this in a long time, but tonight I just settled myself down in front of the TV and, in between catching weather updates, I've been watching those Diners, Dives, Burgers, 'Que, etc., food programs.
Now I want a piece of your fruitcake.

Ditto!!
Oh, my goodness! :o I can't imagine being stuck like that, let alone living in an area that gets that much snow.
-
I'll stick to the south Puget Sound, thank you very much!
-
Good evening!
-
Home from a great opening night.
-
Ending with a standing ovation!
-
We are kind of the dark horse candidate of the local theater scene.
-
No one knew what to expect from this play.
-
And we just blew them away!!

But no longer.
-
But no longer.
Hang on a minute....
-
Here you go!

Thank you very much, George.

Now, back to bragging about my show.
-
Now, back to bragging about my show.
Please!
-
I am somewhat amused at the Broadway-con thing. As TCB may or may not remember (although I have all the e-mails), our much missed den mother, he, and I were trying to do that very thing about fourteen years ago.
Yes, I remember very well. I think if she hadn't been forced to leave here, we might have succeeded.
-
Almost every funny line landed.
-
The audience was with us from the word "go."
-
All of the cast members were on their game tonight
-
How are all these cliches, Mr Goldstone!
-
At the opening night reception, the audience members kept saying that once word gets out about this play, we are going to be SRO.
-
I will confess that I am surprised.
-
Before Tuesday night's rehearsal, I figured it was going to be just an okay show.
-
At the opening night reception, the audience members kept saying that once word gets out about this play, we are going to be SRO.
That's great! I'm glad I get to see it!
-
But after Tuesday's run-through, we were all looking at each other wondering if everyone else was getting the same vibe.
-
NINE!
-
Of course, I had better not oversell the show to Jane and George.
-
So I had better shut up.
-
But I am bouncing off the walls!
-
I even stopped at Mickey Dee's on my way home
-
And now I may have some shortbread cookies.
-
I even stopped at Mickey Dee's on my way home
Did you get a Sausage McMuffin (with or without a egg)?
-
And now I may have some shortbread cookies.
That sounds good.
-
I even stopped at Mickey Dee's on my way home
Did you get a Sausage McMuffin (with or without a egg)?
Yes, I went with the idea of getting two without egg, but I was celebrating, so I got one with egg.

Did you compare and contrast?
-
Did you have a preference?
-
And was the one without the egg only $1??

I only got the one with egg. I still haven't tried the one without.

I see.
-
But I did try the mozzarella sticks with the marinara sauce.
-
But I did try the mozzarella sticks with the marinara sauce.
I like those. What do you think?
-
The first time that I got them, they had evidently cooked them a little too long and all I got were three empty tubes of breading. :P
If I hadn't gotten them from the drive-thru, I definitely would've taken them back!
-

I like those. What do you think?
Well, the fine dining establishments of the world have nothing to fear, but I thought they were good.
-

I had one that had thrown up its cheese, also.

Fortunately, it only happened again one time after that, and with only one stick, too...well, so far. It could still happen again.
-
But McD's tricks you. They are on the the 2 for $2.00, but they are only a buck if you buy two sale items.

Yup...so I get the mozzarella sticks and the Sausage McMuffin (with no egg)!

So, the no egg is currently on sale for $1.00?

As far as I know, the regular price is just $1...at least here in Tumwater.
-
But the mozzarella sticks are $1.39, unless you get two of the 2 for 2.
-
Why are we having this dumb conversation??
-

Oh, that's right. I don't know what I was thinking. ::) Dopey me.
-
Why are we having this dumb conversation??
Because we can.
-
And to get us to...
