Well, you've read the notes, the notes were beautifully designed, and now it is time for you to post until the beautifully designed cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DIEL!
-
First post after BK!
-
good morning to all
-
Congratulations on the NYT shout-out, DR FJL! That's super!!
-
Good morning, all.
I read that as "NYT shoot-out", DR SingSpiel.
-
Sorry to hear about BK's old chum. Sixty-five is no age to be dying.
-
Very happy to hear about vixmom's day yesterday. May there be many more along those lines.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Around 3:00AM, I woke up, fretted over a situation for about an hour, wrote an email to my publisher, and returned to bed around 4:15.
-
Congratulations on the NYT shout-out, DR FJL! That's super!!
Thank you so much, singdaw!
-
TCB - thanks for your comment last night!
-
Good morning, all.
I read that as "NYT shoot-out", DR SingSpiel.
There's a basketball game going on?

I remember a strange dream that took place in the house where I grew up. There was a huge storm, the attic was flooded, and water was leaking all over the ceiling. I went to check and found a cat with five or six kittens that I brought downstairs. There was no sign of water, everything was dry, and my brothers and I played with the kittens. There was a dog in the dream as well.
-
In another dream, my goddaughter Charlotte and I were riding a bus to Carnegie Hall.
-
Coffee. I need coffee.

TOD:
In the morning, I'd watch TV. Usually they played an old serial, like THE CLUTCHING HAND or DAREDEVILS OF THE RED CIRCLE.
Later, you'd find me at Seattle's Roycroft Theater for the Saturday matinee: cartoons, a serial and a double feature.
What happened after that, I have no memory.

Closing weekend vibes for DR TCB & Co.
Opening weekend vibes for DR GEORGE & Co.

Very excited to read about how the book is coming along! I look forward to it very much.
-
Good news from DR VIXMOM - continued good days vibes.

DR ELMORE the Dream-O-Matic 6000 says that your dreams indicate a desire to help others with problems while neglecting those of your own. Take care of yourself first, other things will take care of themselves. You also feel a bit out of place in a particular situation that mixes business with friendship - that, too, will take care of itself. Move ahead with all plans and leave worries behind.

When I was ten, we lived in the COUNTRY, so Saturday meant a trip to town. We all had our allowances and so we visited Foster's Five & Dime. The back right corner of the store was devoted to toys and books, so that is where we all headed.
And then it was home to play with or read the new treasure. I would also help my younger sisters if they bought something that needed assembled or cut out. In the summer there was much riding of bikes up and down the driveway - which was about 1/4 mile long. Sometimes we continued past the house and down the hill to the field. But riding back UP the hill was so hard, I didn't do that very often.
The Saturday afternoon paper delivery was anticipated because it contained the TV listings for the next week, and I could check out which movies would be on the Morning Movie, the Afternoon Movie (Channel 8 and Frances Farmer Presents), and the Late and Late Late Show.... Friday night on Channel 8 was always science fiction or horror films so I checked those titles first. Saturday afternoon on Frances Farmer Presents was usually a Japanese or Italian sci fi film about which she always had amusing things to say:
"And now we return to 'Caltiki the Immortal Fire Monster' because....well...we must."
Dinner on Saturday was always sandwiches, potato chips, and salad. And then of course it was NBC's "Saturday Night at the Movies." Late movies followed sometime, if they were good.

I do love that Dream-o-Matic! As soon as my ship comes in, your Paypal account will never be empty.
Of course, there's always that dreadful possibility that when my ship comes in, I'll be at Penn Station and miss it.

Good morning, all.

Thursday morning greetings from beautiful downtown Overpeck, Ohio! I'm sitting in my car outside the warehouse where our AAUW book sale stuff has been stored since last spring. When it's my turn, they'll load boxes into my car and I'll deliver them to the site of this year's sale. We have quite a caravan here...
-
My sympathies on the loss of your friend, BK.
-
Ginny, you can just divert those books to my house for a first look.
-
TOD:
When I was 10, I would usually try to watch cartoons on Saturday morning, but that was the day of chores around the house, so I would, more often than not, be called upon to help Dad with something. It was usually something that I couldn't help him do, so I would sit there bored while he worked.
The rest of the day would likely be spent reading or watching something on TV or bicycling through the neighborhood.
-
Ginny, you can just divert those books to my house for a first look.
The first few loads are pick-up trucks taking our tables, so with my smaller vehicle I probably will end up with boxes of books - and we only save the "good stuff".from year to year.
-
Two!
-
Additional condolences to MR BK on his friend's passing.
-
Of course, as I got into my teens....Saturday also meant American Bandstand.
-
TOD: At age 10, my Saturdays would be a mix of room cleaning, helping my mom with dusting the house (a weekly ritual) and then going outside to play with my Cocker Spaniel (Toby) and to ride my bike and play with other kids.
-
My sympathies on the loss of your friend, BK.
Ditto!
-
I got through another Moross number this morning. I would swear that I saw recently the full scores for his film score The Proud rebel, but I've been looking for them this morning and I have no idea if they are here or not.
-
...and I'm home! We had enough vehicles that each only had to make one trip. As soon as they got mine unloaded, I left. Committee members are not communicating well and, since I'm no longer president, I don't have to put up with that stuff anymore.
-

Isn't that a pleasant feeling?
-
I watched the commercial DVD of The Wiz, Live! the other day. I think that's the only way to watch it. No commercial interruptions, etc. I missed the immediacy that a live audience would bring to it, and I find a lot of the material second rate, but, man, does that show have something indefinable that makes it a favorite that I go back to fairly often. I'll probably stick with the sorry movie, simply because it's what I grew up on, but the songs "Home" and "Brand New Day" always get to me. And Stephanie Mills singing "Don't Lose the Feeling" was spectacular.

Wonderful!!!
-
Good morning!
-
I'm home on vocal rest. However, if you need someone with a Harvey Fierstein singing voice for your next voice over, I'm your man.
-
TOD: Mostly I can remember just riding my bike, or working in the yard on Saturdays.
-
I'm up, I'm up - about seven hours of sleep.
-
I was led to believe my SAG pension was beginning Feb 1 and it did, only they're not sending Feb 1 until the end of the month along with the March check.

Bruce, condolences on the passing of your, too young, friend.

DR Jrand your Saturdays sound like something Norman Rockwell would paint.

I had to think hard about exactly where we were living when I was ten. It was our last house in Columbus - Bexley, actually - which we were only in for one year before we up and moved to Florida. I loved that house and the neighborhood and everything about it, and I drive past it whenever I'm passing through Columbus with a little extra time on my hands.
Anyway, I don't have solid memories of Saturdays, but I have to think Saturday morning TV was involved, and I definitely remember going to the five-and-dimes and/or other stores. My sister and I were started on our first allowances right then, and that allowance was given on Saturday morning, so we had a little bit of money burning holes in our pockets.
The family wasn't going to a lot of movies then, but those we did get to were likely on Saturday afternoons - or nights, if at a drive-in, and we were big drive-in goers both then and through the following years in Fort Lauderdale. I tend to think of the Hayley Mills movies in the context of this house, and it looks like POLLYANNA would be the one definitely seen on first run while there.
Wish I had more to recall. You know who I bet would remember a lot of detail? BK. That's right, our very own BK. Why, I bet he could write a book...
-
Unfriended the second person this week for their endless barrage of political crap that shows up every five seconds. I don't care about anyone who feels the need to be relentless like that, and especially posting bogus stuff about the candidates they don't like. Believe me, all these candidates have said real things that will dig their own pits, so why it's necessary to post fake stuff is beyond me.

TOD Re-visited: Just before my 9th birthday, my parents moved us from the small town of Johnston SC (where my mom now lives and where I plan on retiring) to the city of Greenville SC. Johnston had one movie theater (and now has none). Greenville had 4 on the main street alone (all of which are gone...they're all in shopping centers now), plus another 4 or 5 drive-ins (also all gone).
In Johnston, my Saturdays always included the children's matinee at the local theater. I was given $.25 with which I gained admission and had money for popcorn and a coke.
In Greenville, however, I was not allowed to go to theaters alone at age 9. In Johnston, everyone knew everyone else. In Greenville, we barely knew anyone.
My mom would take me to see movies like "Old Yeller", and she arranged for me to see "Sleeping Beauty" on a Saturday afternoon with the older-than-me son of one of her co-workers. Funny thing: I guess he wasn't too happy baby-sitting a 10-year-old (my age at time of "Sleeping Beauty's" playing in Greenville). He never showed up...although he later claimed he did show up and that I wasn't there. I went into the theater before the movie started (having waited outside well past the time he was supposed to be there).
From that time, my parents weren't too worried about my being alone in theaters on Saturdays, but getting to main street WAS a concern. I was still too young, in their minds, to ride the bus alone, so if one of them had time to take me (and pick me up later), I could go. I don't recall missing any of the Disney films I wanted to see. Once I had to start taking a city bus to get to school (when I was 12), all the prohibitions ended and Saturdays became my "holy days for films".

One of the former Wright State students now living in Manhattan came over this morning. I looked over what he had written and gave my opinions, and I think I will be tutoring him in orchestration and arranging

We moved here to Washington in October 1976 (40 years ago this October!) and I turned 10 in May of 1976. I don't remember much of anything about my Saturdays. Probably just either stayed home and watched TV or went up to my school (literally one block up a hill) and played on the school grounds. We never had a regular movie day, we only went if there was a specific movie that we wanted to see.

There is a lot of Norman Rockwell in the comments today DR JANE.
I can't help but think how BORED today's ten year olds would be at the wonderful memories we are posting today.......

Welcome to my world! Are you getting Social Security?

Time to think about dinner. I am tired of my chicken stew, I must admit.
This weekend, I will go to market and buy the goods for either chili or pasta sauce. I'm thinking chili.

MR BK is this your house across the street - or had Annette moved to Encino by the time this photo was taken?

About as bored as I am with the activities of 10-year-olds, probably. I do not understand the appeal of electronic games. Other than sudoku, of course. :)

And you, Jane?
-
BK, you should see if the dining section at the Los Angeles Times or Daily News is interested in a story on the new book. All of the nostalgia surrounding many of those restaurants could make for a colorful feature.
-
While we walked I asked Keith what his typical Saturday was and he said the movies. He either walked or road his bike. While I often went to the kiddie Saturday matinee with my friends it wasn't a given that we would go. The day was usually spent with friends, however, what we did varied. We just might play and one house or the other, ride our bikes. roller skate, ice skate, all sorts of different activities. I also played tennis with my tennis friends.
-
Taking about the children's matinees while walking naturally flowed into a discussion between the difference in the snacks sold. Back then the boxes were smaller, and a more appropriate size, and well priced. Even with inflation the cost of snacks today is ridiculous.

That is a good idea.

MR BK was talking about TARGET EARTH the other day. Isn't that the movie where you lost your shoe?

Home, briefly, to let the dog out and feed her, then off to a rehearsal.

I am ready for another inspector Lynley mystery and bed.

My condolences on the loss of your friend, BK.

I believe that's Studio City - if you panned to the right you'd see my house. The house you see there, the kind of green house, is the house that was torn down and replaced by a monstrosity next door.
-
Page three? Really?
-
Spent ninety minutes with Grant entering the final fixes - even as we did so, we found three more things. Go know. Tonight I'll spend a bit of time just going through it one last time, but I think it's probably ready to be locked now. Cover looks great and we're just now waiting for the blurbs, which will hopefully come by Sunday. We did a couple of style adjustments, at my request.
-
Then I went to Hugo's and had a small Caesar and some pasta papa.
-
Then I came home and met with a musical director for the LA show and I've hired him.
-
Then it was an unexpected but delightful two-hour visit with Nick Redman. We've got a Fox soundtrack package that we just decided to do and it's probably going to be my favorite release of the year.
-
Good evening. A busy day doing what I can't even really remember now.
-
Fox soundtrack package = Excellent!

I, for one, am greatly anticipating the availability of the new recording of William Finn's A New Brain, available tomorrow. Just love that score!

We received a piece of mail, that caused us great concern

Thanks to a good friend who kindly accepted a late call And took the time to explain that we did not have to be concerned Vixdad and I I will sleep easier tonight

the Fedex man brought my Dads urn to the office today.

Since We did not have a funeral home we are handling things ourselves that they would normally do

I think "I'd Rather Be Sailing" is my favorite of Finn's songs.

That sounds like a big relief.

That's ok, I never remember.
-
Watching another Antonioni movie from the library. This one is called "Identification of a Woman." It's from 1982, and the story so far is engrossing. It's also sexually explicit.
-
Good night, all.
-
Page five? Really?
-
Gave the book one more once-over - found one bad break that was introduced when another problem was fixed - normally I make sure that when we fix one thing we don't cause another problem but I missed this one - easy fix, though. And then thankfully I realized I'd never checked the spelling of one restaurant that's referenced in the book - luckily I did and I had it wrong in the book, so that will get fixed and then we're locked.
-
Good evening!
-
Home from a rockin' performance.
-
There were a lot of friends at the show tonight.
-
They all seemed to love it.....except
-
Jed posted on Facebook that he was at the performance, but if he was there I never saw him.
-
I hope he didn't hate it, or me.
-
Perhaps he was in a hurry to get home.
-
Or something.
-
My condolences to BK on the loss of his friend.
-
Hugs to Vixmom during this difficult time.
-
One more post.
-
SIX!
-
And on that note (F-natural), I'm home.
:)
-
We had a good show for our final dress rehearsal. Several friends were in the audience and I only spoke to one person about how she felt...and she didn't like it. :-\
-
Other people in the audience did laugh a few times. There are some moments of humor, but it's not anywhere near being called a comedy.
-
Does it make any more sense?
-
Does it make any more sense?
A little...it's definitely a slice-of-life kind of show, where you just see what's happening in these moments (which is fine), but I guess I just don't care about what they're going through.
-
And this is being done at OLT?
-
And this is being done at OLT?
Yup. I think the director came across the script and brought it to them. She has worked with them a lot before, and used to be on their board.
