Well, you've read the notes, the notes were special and a treat, and now it is time for you to post until the special cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ALAR!
-
First post after BK!
-
good morning to all
-
tod
I would have to go back and look them up as i would need to know the titles.
I would have to say most anything that was done by Elizabeth Montgomery after Bewitched.
Many of these movies were also pilots but probably we didn't know it at the time and would be interesting to why after the fact they never were made as a series,
-
Good morning
-
I have nothing to ad to that at the moment
-
Good morning, all.
-
An epic dream early this morning.
Epic.
Could I write it down? I probably could, but documenting every possible reference would put us on page fifty-three. Or I could just do it for myself. But I'm not going to make the effort. This is one I'll be remembering for a while.
-
Can't do it right here, but I will watch that Jack Benny later. Looking forward to it.
-
Don't recall that S.F. movie but would love to see it. That's the very year I first went to the west coast and saw both L.A. and S.F. Most exciting and rewarding trip ever.
-
Those TV movies are such comfort food now. I have just a few here, probably ones that Warner Archive has issued. Wish I could remember all the ones I saw. Would love to see a bunch now, for sure.
-
Vibes for the friend of DR JANE.
Condolences to DR MATTHEW.
-
Good morning, all! I slept late, then I lost my glasses and spent 30 minutes looking for them around my bed. Because I'm nearly blind, I go into panic mode. The last pair of glasses is six years old (yes, I knowI'm overdue for new ones) so I put them on. Just as I was debating calling Joshie and insisting he come over to help me look, I found them under my bed, a full mattress length from where I usually keep them in my night stand. Poltergeist? or my encroaching senility?
-
I am watching some things on the new GET TV channel which I now have....along with COMET which has some SciFi things on it.....or did I tell you that already?
Chili Win Vibes for DR VIXMOM.
No more annoying EMAIL vibes for MR BK.
-
DR Matthew, I'm sorry to hear of your friend's passing.
-
Jack Benny......I could watch his show all day....and sometimes I almost do!
It was one of those TV things that really seemed part radio show - Burns & Allen was another one....strange.
The set up with the three beautiful women seemed to peak with their second appearance....but it was a set up for a third that brought the house down! LOL....and Toni & Jack were hilarious!
Some of the late night hosts try to go for this TYPE of set up.....especially Jimmy Kimmel....and sometimes they are successful.....Jimmy Fallon tries it as well.
-
The probably fell and BOUNCED DR ELMORE.....sometimes mine do that.
-
LOL at the Jack Benny show. He is my all time favorite comedian.
-
Yesterday was a good day. The morning band rehearsal read down all of the new things Joshie and I worked on for the past week and a half, then Rob ra through the gebinnings and endings of most of the numbers, giving the band cuts and changes.
Before the session, I had a lovely visit with my beautiful friend Leigh Beery, who's Mrs Jonathan Tunick. We've been friends since 1981 or so, when Steve Ross introduced us. I had been in love with her since her glorious "You Have Made Me Love" from the Christopher Plummer musical Cyrano.
At lunch, she, Jonathan, and I talked about our friendship. She said I knew her longer than she had known Jonathan, and I met Jonathan through Leigh and John McGlinn, when Leigh was playing Sue in McGlinn's 1986 concert of the 1925 scores for No, No, Nanette at the Carnegie Recital Hall. Then we talked about Brahms, Dvorak, Hershy Kay, and told musician jokes.

TOD:
THE DEADLY TOWER
DUEL
The extended version of DUEL on DVD is a disappointment. It was much tighter and better when it was originally shown on TV.
-
I like the cast of Cabin in the Sky a lot. I had never met La Chanze before, and she's really wonderful. "Taking a Chance on Love" is quite delightful. I've known Chuck Cooper since Finian's Rainbow and I really adore him. I met Norm Lewis at a Library of Congress concert of Vincent Youmans music and we later did the "Jule Styne in Hollywood" recording for PS Classics. I didn't know the actors playing Georgia Brown and Little Joe, but they really impressed me.
-
We watched BRIDGE OF SPIES last night.
Enjoyed it, but I felt it was a bit disjointed. It was really 2 movies: one dealt with the trial and the other with the prisoner exchange.
I wonder if it might have worked better as a 2-part mini-series.

I went through that with my glasses a few weeks ago. Fortunately I have a second pair, so I went and got them. Looked all the HELL around and under and behind the bed. Nada. It's a platform bed and I began to think I'd have to start disassembling it and I didn't even want to think about that. I gave it a rest for a couple of hours.
Tried again later. Still nothing. This time I moved a couple of things on the little shelf that I always tuck the glasses into at night. And there were the glasses. They were behind the TV remote instead of in front of it. I'd glanced at the shelf first thing, but...
Poltergeist, incompetence, senility. Oy! Could I try door number four?
-
Today and tomorrow are publisher days. I need to make the corrections to my "Appalachian Carols for My Father" and mail them back to the publisher on Monday. The fee will cover most of the Ohio property taxes, which will be due on Feb. 25 or so.

Once the Ohio taxes are paid, the next check is going to an optometrist.

More coffee!

This Cabin is sounding mighty wonderful, DR Elmore. I'm sorry to miss it. Next week is just crazy.

DR TCB thank for the vibes for my friend.

When I loose my glasses at night it is because I dozed off before putting them on the night stand. I have a fear of breaking them. At least I have contacts I can wear.

;D. Missing items are often where they belong, just slightly out of place and missed at first glance.

They were literally -- and I do mean literally -- one inch from their usual spot.

{{{hugs}}} and CONDOLENCES for DR Matthew!

Glad that you had such a great audience last night, DR TCB!

I'm up, I'm up - weird dreams and not enough sleep.

Happy Saturday to One and All.....the latest edition of the Broadway Radio Show is now up on this here website for your listening pleasure. This week I had the treat of interviewing opera singer Rolando Sanz, who is the Co-Founder and Producing Artistic Director for a wonderful organization in the Washington DC area called Young Artists of America, which provides training and mentoring for young musicians and performers. They have a new symphonic concert version of Stephen Schwartz's Children of Eden coming up on March 13th. Sometimes these interviews happen in the strangest ways....in this case, I was hanging out in the pool at our hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico last month and started chatting with this very friendly woman named Gina....she was a delight and turned out she is the Executive Director of YAA....once she explained the work and mission of YAA, I knew I wanted her on the radio show....she recommended I chat with Rolando instead and that's how this radio show came about (never fear, I coaxed Gina into coming on the show in a few weeks to run down her 12 favorite showtunes -- she has quite an interesting background herself!) Give the show a listen and enjoy your weekend!
-
Continuing RUN vibes for DR GEORGE and DR TCB on their respective theatrical endeavors.
We should all have such nice days DR ELMORE.....as often as possible.
-
Ah yes.....the eternal struggle -- how do you find your glasses without your glasses?
-
Thanks for the Bridge of Spies report DR DRUXY.
-
Just for the differing opinion on Bridge of Spies - I thought all of it was terrific - certainly in my top five of the year, and I found nothing wrong with its structure other than it doesn't really conform to screenwriting 101, a good thing, in my opinion.
-
~ ~ ~ VIBES OF HEALTH AND COPING ~ ~ ~ for the friend of DR Jane!
Thank you. I've been told she doesn't want visitors or to talk on the phone. I will have to wait for news. Right now I don't even know where to send a card.
-
Glad that you had such a great audience last night, DR TCB!
Yes, and I fear our audience didn't laugh as often which is good for me. I would have missed much of what was said if they did. I think just because there isn't a lot of loud laughter it just means people are listening better. :)
-
Ah yes.....the eternal struggle -- how do you find your glasses without your glasses?
I feel for them, and I walk very carefully as not to step on them.
-

I agree with you. I thought the transition from the trial to the bridge unraveled beautifully.
-
Good afternoon!
-
I'm back from the post office (to pick up a Barbra 1994 Concert mug I ordered from ebay), the library ( I got Michael Riedel's book, "Razzle Dazzle--the Battle for Broadway") and the supermarket.

Last night, we had a goodly crowd at the Cathedral for our program of the organ and choral music of Charles Marie Widor (who wrote that famous toccata that seems to be known as THE organ piece). The choral music was all for choir with TWO organs, so that limits the number of places that the music can be performed. The Cathedral was a magnificent setting. But since it seats 3,000, you need to have a lot of folks to make it look even partly full.
-
Wowie, gee! PAGE THREE!
-
My condolences, DR Matthew.
-
Looking forward to the Bowl tomorrow--the Puppy Bowl, that is.
-
Enjoyed the Jack Benny video, BK!
-
Today is the first day I have had completely off in over a month.
I am catching up on laundry and dishes. Also walking and playing with the dog, and preparing music for various performances and rehearsals tomorrow.
This past week I had to finalize all my interviews and editing of articles for the winter issue of the MN American Choral Directors Association newsletter. Glad to have that out of the way!
-
Looking forward to the Bowl tomorrow--the Puppy Bowl, that is.
Me, too! :)

Enjoyed the Jack Benny video, BK!
As did I. Modern sit coms (with a few exceptions) don't have a patch on entertainment of old.

Thank you DR Kevin.

I thought the 2nd half was a bit slow and lacked tension. But, as I said, overall we enjoyed it.
-
Got blurb one from Richard Sherman. I'll put it in the notes, but it's great.
-
And he absolutely loved the book and said he laughed out loud from page one right through to the end.
-
That is excellent. Truly.

Yes, truly :)

This happens at least once a week. I click again and my post works.
The following error or errors occurred while posting this message:
Your session timed out while posting. Please try to re-submit your message.
It isn't a big deal, just strange.
-
Obviously it hadn't taken me long to type "yes, truly" that my session would have timed out, plus the message shows up immediately after I click on post.
-
The Appalachian Carols work is finished, so tomorrow I can photocopy the edited score and mail it on Monday. The fee will cover most of the Ohio tax bill. Tomorrow I will go back to the Jerome Moross score.

For me there was nothing slow and the tension was tense, but that's what makes horse racing and I truly appreciate any film or script that isn't slavishly emulating the stupidity of Robert McKee and Syd Field, two jerks who have done more harm to moviemaking than just about anyone.

Had a good rehearsal this morning, then had an omelet and a bagel.

I would truly love to hear them in their spanking new edition.

Perhaps your new Chorus will perform them?
-
I hate it when the only channel worth watching is PBS and all they're showing is the kitsch-y reruns of the dreadful Lawrence Welk Show. You need to be in the mood for really bad camp or drunk on your ass to sit through it.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
DR FJL, what nice comments about your work on the NYT! It's hard to imagine a nicer compliment.

Condolences to BK on the loss of his friend. I'm glad his daughter notified his friends. That doesn't happen a lot.

Tonight, I am attending a neighborhood paella party.
I don't know what all is involved, but I am thinking perhaps there will be paella.

Perhaps There Will Be Paella...
A great title for something or other.
-
Enjoy your day off DR SINGDAW.
I now have BRIDGE OF SPIES and i shall watch it in the next few days. We shall see. I remember the story from the newspapers at the time, and it was a very tense time, but I did not understand why it was so important....then.
-
DR Matthew, I'm sorry to hear of your friend's passing.
Thank you, Larry. And thanks to all of you for your kind words/prayers, etc.

Yesterday I visited yet another eyecare center and am very glad I did. I had been there once briefly maybe a year ago and was happy with the customer service. The optician and I spent over an hour looking at frames and discussing my vision requirements. She understood my needs completely, as she also has a small bridge. She was able to explain why my three prescriptions are so different and then rigged up this gizmo that lets you see the proposed prescription. Ah! I could see wonderfully! I am now confident that the newest one is the one I want.
Finally! Here is the sort of customer service I've been looking for! Yes, they're more expensive. They don't take my insurance, but they do have promotions, so I wouldn't be paying full price. I have a number of options. This is like shopping for a new car. Oy! But I am so pleased to find an optician who knows the material and is willing to spend time with the patient, to answer questions and offer explanations. I simply cannot go back to those other, horrid ones now.

We had a run-through of Jerry's Girls this morning. It was fine. Some of the girls need to be off book ASAP. Other than that, we open next Saturday afternoon for 2 performances, Saturday afternoon and the Saturday afternoon after that.

Tonight, I am attending a neighborhood paella party.
I don't know what all is involved, but I am thinking perhaps there will be paella.
Your neighbors sound quite friendly. In some areas you have to live there for at least 10 years before you're accepted. :D
-
Bruce, did you know there's a season 3 to THE BRIDGE? No Martin Rodhe character, though. I'll miss his interaction with Saga. I find it an interesting friendship.
-
Got blurb one from Richard Sherman. I'll put it in the notes, but it's great.
The man has good taste.

Anxious to hear the results of Vixmom's chili cook-off.

Today I saw something advertised as "vegan leather." Does that mean a leatherette? I don't think I've ever heard the term "vegan leather" before.

Off to the symphony soon, which is performing Bernstein's West Side Story Suite, Piazzola tangos and more as part of their Las Americas festival.

Thanks, DR John G.
I'll be very happy when I have new driving glasses and can put this chapter behind me!

I LOVE Piazzola! I love WSS, too, of course. I've never heard Piazzola in concert.

Tonight, I am attending a neighborhood paella party.
I don't know what all is involved, but I am thinking perhaps there will be paella.
The restaurant we ate at last night does not have a great vegetarian menu. They offer a vegetarian version of paella I have been tempted to order, except I don't think I like paella even without the fish. Isn't it also spicy?
-

Same here. There is another part to the story which I did not remember. Both the parts I remembered and the parts I didn't had my complete attention.
It is interesting to read different views. I hope you enjoy the movie.
-
Has anyone been watching War and Peace? We can get it On Demand (a luxury we could not get living in the country).

That's great. My problem is finding glasses that fit, and that I like. Right now I'm focusing on new contact lenses and taking my time regarding a frame.
The new eye doctor I saw wants to put me in contacts for a astigmatism. I will try a pair later today. I'm a bit nervous they will be extremely uncomfortable, especially since I have dry eyes. She also wants me to return to have a special dry eye exam and do special treatments to help it. Considering no other doctor I have seen feels it is worth it to do this I'm thinking I will pass.
-
Vibes for DR Matthew's show!
DITTO!

Today I saw something advertised as "vegan leather." Does that mean a leatherette? I don't think I've ever heard the term "vegan leather" before.
I did a quick search and found the following:
While a few vegan leathers are cork- or kelp-based, the vast majority of faux leather has been around for ages, and is made of scary materials like polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyurethane and textile-polymer composite microfibres.
Artificial leather is marketed under many names, including "leatherette"

I LOVE LUCY Season Two, which moved from $76 to $56 the other day, is now at $81.
-
Matthew, I am sorry to read of the loss of your friend. My condolences.

Getting ready to head out to the final Saturday night performance of SECOND SAMUEL. Final performance is tomorrow afternoon. We end our show, just before the kick-off of the Super Bowl.

She also wants me to return to have a special dry eye exam and do special treatments to help it. Considering no other doctor I have seen feels it is worth it to do this I'm thinking I will pass.

Off to the paella palooza.

I received a rather painful e-mail from a friend who did not care for the show at all. I will have to wait a day or two before I answer their message.
-
Until later!
-
I received a rather painful e-mail from a friend who did not care for the show at all. I will have to wait a day or two before I answer their message.
It happens...one of my friends who saw the preview of "Circle Mirror Transformation," told me in confidence that she didn't like it at all. She's friends with most of the cast and the director, so she didn't feel that she could tell them (and what would be the point?), but I'm separated enough from the production (and we're good enough friends) that she could tell me. I'm still not in love with the show, but I don't "hate" it.
-
I was able to stay in bed for more than eight hours and, even though I had to get up a couple of times during the night (morning), I got a good long sleep...longer than I have in a while. I get to sleep in tomorrow, too. That'll be nice. I have the show tonight, but not tomorrow.
-
Tomorrow, however, is the last Sunday before the next Theater Artists Olympia show "On The Verge (-or The Geography of Yearning) (http://olytheater.com/season14/verge/)" opens, and the TAO board feeds the cast and crew the last Sunday before the opening of any TAO show. So, I'm contributing to the feeding of the cast and crew.
-
I can't wait to see that, but I won't be able to until their final week because "CMT" has the same performance dates and times, except they're offset by a week. So when we close, I'll get to see "On the Verge."
-
Good morning, all! I slept late, then I lost my glasses and spent 30 minutes looking for them around my bed. Because I'm nearly blind, I go into panic mode. Well, I need to be going. We have our last show of the first weekend (no matinee tomorrow), and actually starting an hour before our show (so I can't go until our show is over), a couple of coworkers are celebrating their retirement at the local Eagle's club. Their party is scheduled to go to midnight, so I can at least stop by and wish them well.
Be back later!
-

To spray water in your eye? That is one I have not heard of. Does it work? I would think drops are more soothing, not that they work all that well. The doctor mentioned homeopathy methods as the first step. I notice she sells a lot of stuff and she wasn't suggesting anything without another exam-lol
-
I received a rather painful e-mail from a friend who did not care for the show at all. I will have to wait a day or two before I answer their message.
I suppose some people need to explain WHY something isn't their cup of tea. I am sorry it was painful, and relieved that Keith & I enjoyed it very much.
-
I need to do the dishes and see if I can wear my new contacts. They are torque lenses which I am expecting to be larger than normal ones. Does anyone wear these?

Saturday evening greetings! Just realized I had not checked in here today. I've been fighting with my printer all day. Last night I bought a new color ink cartridge and installed it, then the black wouldn't print. I put in the new black ink cartridge I had on hand and it still won't work. I've unplugged everything, hoping it just need to reset, and tomorrow I'll buy one more cartridge of black
unicorn blood ink. If that doesn't solve the problem, I guess I'll need a new printer.
-
Well, fighting with my printer wasn't ALL I did today. I also finished reading STILL LIFE by Louise Penny, made homemade pizza for our dinner, and did some AAUW corresponding secretary work.
Oh, and I found Page 6!
-
Good luck with your printer Ginny.
-
DR Ginny will you continue with the series?
-
DR Ginny will you continue with the series?
Yes, I think so. It's so popular with a lot of astute readers I know...
-
Getting my new contacts in was easier than I expected. The fact the contacts weren't as floppy as my other contacts made up for them being larger. I like that they are tinted a light blue. I see just fine close up and some of those tinted contacts change my eye color to blue.
The script is different and I am noticing it. I can also feel them because they are larger and thicker but I think that will be fine once I get used to them. If my eyes dry out I won't be able to wear them.

LOL, but did you enjoy it?
-
I am waiting to read the 7th book. While I like the series I don't believe I have actually suggested anyone SHOULD read it.
-
Well, most of them recommend it, so I guess, yes, they did enjoy it!
Oh, you asked if I enjoyed it. Yes, to an extent. At least enough to try another one or two. Not sure I'll make it to #10, which was last month's book group selection.

Dear reader Jeanne apparently has not read the notes or she would have known that not only do I know about the third series of The Bridge, I watched it and wrote about it extensively right on this here site.
-
Because I only had an omelet and a bagel, I decided on a little steak for this evening, which I bought at Gelson's for six bucks. It's not huge and only has about 400 calories, so it's perfectly perfect and is being broiled as I type this.
-
I received a rather painful e-mail from a friend who did not care for the show at all. I will have to wait a day or two before I answer their message.
Unless someone forced them to give their opinion I find that beyond rude. I would just say "thanks for your opinion" and leave it at that. Hopefully they did not say they hated your performance. Now that would be beyond rude.
-
Tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday!

But not today ;)
I forgot to mention, I enjoyed the clip with Toni.

Good luck with your printer Ginny.
Ditto!!

Today I saw something advertised as "vegan leather." Does that mean a leatherette? I don't think I've ever heard the term "vegan leather" before.
its made from bean sprouts

The crowd here at "CMT" is getting pretty full. I wonder if most of them are season subscribers.

I ran out of chili ( I had used 7 lbs of ground beef and filled the 6 quart crock pot ) an hour into the competition because so many people came back for additional servings so that left me free to leave my booth and try everyone elses

Congratulations!

Well, it's going well and the intermission is almost over. We'll see if anyone leaves and it's noticeable.
;)
-
It's happened before.
-
And since we're so close...
-
PAGE SEVEN DANCE!!
-
I need different reading glasses for my nook. They actually worked better, with the new contacts, at the computer.
-
And on that note (A#), I've got to go for the night.
-
I just noticed that I forgot to charge my tablet battery (dopey me!) and the power is almost gone. I didn't think to bring my charging cable, either.
-
So, have a good rest of the evening, everyone!

I don't recall ever eating anything in Spain that was spicy during the months that I lived and vacationed there. Of course, that wouldn't prevent an American chef from putting his or her own mark on anything in the form of spice. I have had paellas here in Texas made with chiles of various kinds. But it's the way we eat here.

Has anyone been watching War and Peace? We can get it On Demand (a luxury we could not get living in the country).
I want to. Loved the book and the Russian version that Bonderchuk directed. I even sort of liked the BBC version, which seemed to have been filmed on a 50 cent budget. (I think that was the first time I had ever noticed how cheap a production was.)

great news. congratulations.

Well, I was wrong about the lineup for the concert tonight. There was Bernstein, but it was his score for On the Waterfront and the Chichester Psalms, sung by a choir of more than 100. The Piazzola piece was his concerto for bandeon, a type of accordion, and the soloist was astounding. The whole piece was something else. Really enjoyed hearing it and another piece that was new to me, Danzon No. 2 by a Mexican-American composer named Marquez. Will have to look for more work by him.
-
And with that, I will say good night.

Maybe I will give it a try and it was the fish flavor/smell I didn't like.

Most of the reviews call it pretty, as in Downton pretty, more than good.

Good evening. We just got home from seeing Jason Graae and friends in a Jerry Herman concert downtown. My daughter and I went with Kerry and his date.
-
Who were the "friends" in the concert?
-
Klea Blackhurst, Scott Coulter, Debbie Gravitte, Ron Raines, and John Boswell.
-
That's a lot of rather good friends.

Don't ask me.
-
I just don't know.
-
How can I answer if I just don't know?
-
I know that I can't answer if I just don't know.
-
I can answer if I just don't know but the answer may be incorrect because I just don't know.
-
This is what they call babbling.
-
In case that wasn't obvious.
-
What's obvious is that it was my carefully plotted ploy to take us over 200 postings.
-
The Snows of Killimanjaro fell into my mailbox today.
That is a lot of snow!
-
I can't wait to see that, but I won't be able to until their final week because "CMT" has the same performance dates and times, except they're offset by a week. So when we close, I'll get to see "On the Verge."
My friend, Dana, is in the show.
-
She was at my show last night.

Jennifer, the person said they liked my performance, but that isn't really important to me in the long run.
-
The show went well, but when I got to the retirement party, it was pretty much done.
-
Only one of the two retirees was still there, so I got to say goodbye to her.
-
And now I'm at home watching "black-ish." I like this show.
