It was nice to see Christie kick some Rubio butt last night.  I am not a huge Christie admirer, but I think he's the best of a rotten bunch. After the big hurricane (Katrina? I never remember!), he did an excellent job fighting for his New Jersey contituenta and dealing with the mess. He reminded me of Rudy Giuliani after 9/11, a lousy, petty mayor who became for me the epitome of grace under pressure.  Then Christie blew it all with privatizing New Jersey's water last week, and there's still this whole Bridgegate mess.

Over all, I think the current crop of GOP candidates pander far too much to the lowest IQ levels of "Christian" white trash mentality and promote too many of Adolph's and Benito's values to make me happy.

I had a good time at the Paella Palooza last evening, where we did indeed eat paella. Amongst other things.

And an amazing flan for dessert.

The paella pan was pretty amazing. Amazingly large. The paella served 30, with leftovers. I wonder if I could even lift that cast iron pan.

Then, I think I'll spend some time tallying tax receipts before I get back to my edit of the Moross score.  My copyist Scott has caught up to me, and I promised him some work this week.

For those DRs who might be interested...  Don't forget that this morning the new editions of the Puppy Bowl and the Kitten Bowl air on television. At the same time. The former on Animal Planet, the latter on the Hallmark Channel.

I am home from another less than stunning experience at Staples. God knows the glitch, but I put the 58 pages letter-sized score to be copied in the tray.  Io should have in retrn 58 pages of copy @ $0.12/page. Well, I got 58 pages of 11x17 paper @ $0.23/page.  This of course thrilled me no end and the manager blamed it on the fact that I hadn't made sure that the feeder tray wasn't closed to 8.5x11.  I still think it was shitty maintenance of the overworked photocopiers.

So then I had to wait for mew copies made at no charge and wait while the overworked clerk and another employee had to deal with me between too many waiting customers. Color me very pissed at the moment.

I doubt it; I believe they are blatant examples of trickle down mismanagement.

The Appalachian Carols score is sealed and ready for the PO, I've confirmed which copy of the Moross score for The Proud Rebel isin my possession, and I'm ready to tackle "Fare You Well" from Gentlemen, Be Seated.

Got a question for the group:

Do you use the term "sleep in" for sleeping late?  If so, did you grow up knowing it, or did you adopt it at some time or place?

This question somehow came up the other day, and some people had never heard it and had no idea what it was supposed to mean.  Some of that group had spent their lives around NYC, so we thought it might be a regional expression - but in what areas?  I felt like I'd always heard it and used it, but I've lived in the Midwest, Florida, California, and Northeast, and I have no idea where I would have learned it or how long ago.

I am agog at the writing in yesterday's Jack Benny clip....of course Jack Benny's delivery put it over.....but everything worked and everything kept coming back to what had already been established:

The woman cutting the tie.....was Toni's grandmother.
The man with the five dollar bill....that Jack could use to buy a new tie.
The three girls bringing out the violin.....and all that followed...

I may have told this story before.  Jack Benny used to come to Indianapolis every summer and do his Jack Benny Show at Starlight Musicals.  He was always popular and had huge audiences.  One woman wrote him a fan letter and ask him to have dinner at her house when he was in town.  To her amazement, he showed up....and then continued to show up EVERY night he was in town for the free dinner.  It was a great story and there were photos in the paper....

I can't remember not knowing the term "sleep (or sleeping) in."  But to me, I would specifically use it when I would choose to not get up at my regular time.  If I "slept late," to me that would mean that I didn't wake up when I had planned to.

Good point.  So, for clarity, "sleeping late", in this instance, is synonymous with "sleeping in" -- as opposed to what happens when you forget to set your alarm.

I am reading a great book called THOSE WHO SAVE US by Jenna Blum.

It is about the life of two women in Germany during World War II.

I purchase it at my local library (used) for a dollar and it it is in excellent shape.

I prefer to read actual books rather than on a kindle or other device.   Anyone else???

Do you use the term "sleep in" for sleeping late?  If so, did you grow up knowing it, or did you adopt it at some time or place?

This question somehow came up the other day, and some people had never heard it and had no idea what it was supposed to mean.  Some of that group had spent their lives around NYC, so we thought it might be a regional expression - but in what areas?  I felt like I'd always heard it and used it, but I've lived in the Midwest, Florida, California, and Northeast, and I have no idea where I would have learned it or how long ago.

I can't remember not knowing the term "sleep (or sleeping) in."  But to me, I would specifically use it when I would choose to not get up at my regular time.  If I "slept late," to me that would mean that I didn't wake up when I had planned to.

Same here. "Sleeping in" is intentional. I believe I've always known the term.

DR Jane, an acupuncturist I know recommends a warm compress on the forehead, covering the area above and to the side of the eyes for 10 minutes for dry eyes. She says that the tear ducts sometimes get clogged. I tried it once and it did seem to help.

THE BRIDGE season 3 is apparently not available on region 1, so Netflix lists it as if there is no season 3. I think the article I'd read was written prior to filming season 3.

To all you book lovers:

I am reading a great book called THOSE WHO SAVE US by Jenna Blum.

It is about the life of two women in Germany during World War II.

I purchase it at my local library (used) for a dollar and it it is in excellent shape.

I prefer to read actual books rather than on a kindle or other device.   Anyone else???

I thought it was an excellent book.

I do you very warm/almost hot water on my eyes and it does help.  My two major problem times are at night when it wakes me up, and if I wear contacts for too long.  I loved that the humid weather on our trip kept my eyes moist.  Not once did I have trouble getting my contacts out.

I spoke for Christie at my caucus.  It was a speech sent to me by the campaign, but it was nice to support him.  I love watching CNN call Cruz a liar and I loved watching Christie and Rubio last night

I went to a friend's house last year for a Superbowl party.  There were several of us that just went to socialize and had no interest in the game.  I had a great time and didn't have to pretend to be interested in the sportsing.
