Well, you've read the notes, the notes were your valentine, and now it is time for you to post until the valentine cows come home - they're currently singing they're favorite valentine song MOO Funny Valentine.
-
And the word of the day is: CANOODLE!
-
First post after BK!
-
From Tom from yesterday: our audience last night was a little sedate. They didn't laugh much, not that there's a lot of humor in the show, but there are moments. The house was about a third full, but today's matinee is supposed to be sold out.

How many seats does the theater have?

About 75 to 100 or so.
-
Good night!
-
Good night, Tom.
-
I'm off to bed, too.
-
Good morning!

Happy Valentine's day!

Good Morning To All
-
As Edith Bunker once said.
Happy VD Day!
-
BK
What exactly is a music quote that is one of the perks.
-
Good morning, all! I hope to finish up my taxes this morning, I worked until 6:00 last night, then put everything away. Today, I need to tally up one item, check all my forms and proceed from there. I hope to be finished by mid-afternoon.
-
Seven years ago, on Feb. 14, 2009, the body of my former friend John McGlinn was discovered when the police broke into his apartment. The neighbors were aware that something was wrong. He was 55 years old. He had died from a heart attack several days earlier, but the actual time of death is unknown. By a lucky coincidence, his sister Lorin, her husband, and son had come to Manhattan from Colorado on vacation and were leaving on the 14th.
The police called several numbers in John's address book, including Russell Warner and Dan Langan, who called me with the news of John's death and connected the police with a cousin of John’s. She contacted Lorin in Manhattan. On Saturday afternoon, Lorin identified her brother's body while her husband and son flew back to Colorado. On Sunday evening, I met Lorin, and we both got very drunk reminiscing about John and his horrible treatment of family and friends. He was a complicated man whose personal demons too often got in the way.
Since then, I doubt there's not a day that passes without my mentioning or thinking of John. BK, The New Amsterdam Theatre Company, the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus, and John McGlinn were responsible for whatever career I’ve had, and some of my favorite projects happened because of John. After his death, I cataloged his estate, I worked until 2013 in an office surrounded by his scores, books, orchestra parts, and I swear that, when I was alone there, I would occasionally hear him walk through another room of the suite. I heard footsteps, doors open and close, and I called out, Is that you, John? He never answered, thank God.
-
So, while I work, I'll listen to a few of McGlinn's recordings. I listened to SHOW BOAT, which is his best, yesterday, but I find that one too emotionally painful to play again.
-
Good morning, all.
It is -9 degrees Fahrenheit with a wind chill factor of -24.
That's my little song. I hope you like it.
-
It's quite chilly here, and it brings back a lot of memories of the frigid winter 30 years ago, when I was finishing up JUBILEE for its March 5, 1986 premiere.
There were too many wintry mornings of my running about the Upper West Side in the cold to deliver or pick up music from several copyists who were helping me finish.
-
I need some coffee and some food.
-
Thank you for that, DR Elmore.
Here's to Mr. John McGlinn. I will listen to a recording today.
-
And here's to JUBILEE. Perhaps I can do likewise.
-
Good morning, all. And Happy Valentine's Day.
-
I'm doing something atypical, I guess, for Valentine's Day. I'm ushering for a play called The Amish Project, which is about the aftermath of the mass killing of Amish girls in a Pennsylvania community. It supposedly explores how the women in the community were able to forgive the killer and his family so easily after he had slaughtered their daughters before killing himself.
-
George, congratulations on the mention in the review.
-
Congratulations to BK on the major contribution.
What an ordeal. How wonderful that it paid off royally.
-
I will most likely play McGlinn's Brigadoon today or his Busby Berkeley album, if I get a chance later,
-
Congratulations, BK, on passing the 50% mark.
-
It may not be a perfect choice for Valentine's Day, but Sandy and I will probably watch THE DANISH GIRL this evening.
::)
-
I want to hear some of those Percy Faith albums. I don't know if I ever listened to any except for the Pal Joey. I'm depraved on account of I'm deprived.
-

Salty is such a cutie!!! I love that photo DR JANE.
Congrats to MR BK on the big donation!! I like all of your ideas for perks. Perhaps I will win the lottery this week, and then I can participate!!!!
-
Happy Valentine's Day.

While I finish my taxes, I will listen to two of John McGlinn's better unreleased 2001 recordings for the Packard Humanities Institute:
-
DR Jrand65:
What's the best song and the worst song you heard today DR CHAS SMITH?
DR Elmore:
Good question, DR JRand65!
It really is a good one. I should have kept my own notes.
They were very happy with a potential Luisa, Matt, and El Gallo for THE FANTASTICKS, and a Madame Hortense, Nikos, and Widow for ZORBA. (Zorba is already cast.) These afforded some nice highlights for all of us.
Lowlights were a fellow who whispered/sang at about a -65 dB level, another whose "Impossible Dream" was probably heard for a five block radius, and now we all know that "Soon It's Gonna Rain" makes for a particularly insidious earworm.
-
Happy Valentines Day to all Drs and especially BK!!!
-
So now, back to SPELLING BEE with rehearsals starting Tues. night. I have to program it for the second time. Last time I played it I'd saved my setups to a PC that I recall had not been very dependable in the MIDI environment, and it corrupted half the file. Oddly, and fortunately, I can probably use the half that survived. From now on, it's all Apple, all the time.
-
Happy Valentine's Day to all our DRS and especially to BK!!!
-

Elmore, I was inspired by your post to go to EBay and find McGlinn's Showboat on CD
-
I did find it and now it is mine.
-
For the bargain price of $6.34 including shipping
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! I had a very rough night last night, coughing until about 3am and sleeping for only about 5 hours in my Momcave recliner. Richard went to church in Dayton, but I decided no one would want me sitting behind them. Dozed a bit and finally managed to get myself showered and dressed.
-
For the bargain price of $6.34 including shipping
Is that the complete 3-CD set? I know it's no longer in print and that surprises me since it's one of EMI's best sellers.
-
Cough be gone vibes for Ginny

I have it on cassette because DR Elmore gave it to me so long ago I didn't have a CD player yet!
-
Cough be gone vibes for Ginny
Thank you, DR Vixmom! Any home remedy suggestions?

as soon as the overture begins, I tear up, and by the end I'm completely devastated. Very few recordings get under my skin the way this one does.

I like to take a large ceramic mug cover the entire bottom with a thick layer of honey, cot a thick slice of lemon Being sure to remove the pips) and put that on top and then fill themug with really hot really strong tea.... And to help you sleep a liberal drop of whiskey ... Skip the whiskey if you want to stay awake

I am looking forward to it I must make sure I can listen to it in one go with no interruptions

When it was released, I first bought the LP box set, then later the CD set.
I play the CDs, but wouldn't be without that lovely LP box on the shelf. Certain things like that just can't be let go.
-
It was so cold today ..... We had to cancel coffeehour and Sunday school and a party this afternoon because the pipes froze and we had no water
We hAd a baptism at the second service.... We were able to find enough bottled water so that thebaptism could go forward
-
I'm listening to OH, LADY! LADY! now, and I think I'll move on to the unreleased BABES IN TOYLAND next.
I have finished all my tallies and my final step is to clean up all of my account sheets that I give to my accountant with my expenditures and questions.
-
Great find, Vixmom.
-
off to the theater, but first ...

Three!

I wanted to try tea with honey yesterday, but our honey was all sugary and wouldn't even come out of the bottle. If Richard calls on his way home from Dayton, I'll ask him to get some. I think there's a lemon in the fridge.
-
Thanks DR Vixmom for playing my movie quote game.
You guessed right!!! Paul newman, one of the handsome men of our time!!!
-
You guessed right Vixmom. Thanks for playing my Movie Quote Game.
Paul Neuman was one of the most handsome men of our time!!!

Ops, I didn't mean to post twice. Though it does bear repeating that Paul Neuman was one of the most Handsome actors of our time!!!

There a two LP box sets on eBay now both from foreign sellers. There is also a brand new cd set for $3o on eBay. Now I wonder if the set I am getting will have the booklet

If you set the honey bottle in a pan of hot water it should regain its original consistency. From what I hear honey doesn't go bad

Yes, I have successfully revived honey a couple of times.

DR Elmore: What were the circumstances re the unreleased McGlinn recordings? How many are there?
There are five recordings of various degrees of performance level, one suppressed show, and fragments of two others:
Babes In Toyland
The Lady of the Slipper
Oh, Lady! Lady!
Have A Heart
Leave It To Jane
There were the silent film score of Gloria's Romance, songs by Kern for The Girl From Utah and Peter Pan that sit in limbo along with a complete Oh, Boy!.
-
The circumstances of the recordings not being released are complex and probably libelous if I relate them as I recall them!
-
More fodder for the memoirs
-
Hurry up and start writing... The movie rights will take care of your retirement
-
There is a jaws marathon going on on one of the movie channels
-
Jaws I , II, III, some 3D one that took place at sea world and now jaws the revenge
-
Thanks for the honey advice, DRs Vixmom and ChasSmith, but I threw it away in disgust.
-
Just as well. If I had something to throw away in disgust right now, I'd do it in solidarity. :)
-
Thanks DR TCB. I pretty much slept through the night and then took dozed off again in the morning.

I figured someone would beat me to mentioning honey and hot water. I still prefer fresh.

Keith and I don't celebrate Valentine's Day anymore. We are just glad he isn't traveling for work and is home.
-
George, congratulations on the mention in the review.
Thanks, John!
-
The taxes are finished and ready for tomorrow. Relief.
-
I'm up and have to go. First thing that I have to do today is the matinee of "Circle Mirror Transformation." We were told that it's sold out for today!
-
Right after that is done, I have about 45 minutes to get something to eat and get downtown (less than two miles away) to work concessions for an event at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts, OLYMPIA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA: LOVERS LOVE GREAT MELODIES (http://www.washingtoncenter.org/upcoming-events/2016/2/14/olympia-symphony-orchestra-lovers-love-great-melodies.html).
-
Since TAO's "On the Verge" doesn't have a matinee today, I'm bringing my Kindle and my tablet with me so that I can post every once in a while...if there's wi-fi wherever I am. Hopefully, there will be.
-
But...

...before I go...

Happy Valentine's Day!

More snow expected for the DC area tomorrow. It will turn to sleet and then rain on Tuesday. 3-5 inches of snow/sleet.
-
Feel better vibes for DR Ginny!
-
Same here - feel good vibes for Ginny!
-
Elmore - so glad you're ready with time to spare!
-
I'm up, I'm up - eleven hours of sleep I think, and I really needed it.
-
Shayne, a signed musical quote is where the composer writes out a bar of music to one of his/her songs, and then signs below it. When I've asked Mr. Sondheim for such things for various charity events he does an entire page.
-
Dinner cancelled due to Sami's being sick. Next weekend.
-
Heard the voiceover for the book trailer - very funny and very in the style, done by a guy who's been doing some big movie and TV stuff for the last three years.
-
Good Afternoon!
-
And Happy Valentines Day
-
Making another batch of Wacky Noodles for Valentine's Day. Then I'll do a jog later this afternoon.
-
All these LA idiots who went out and stocked up on stuff because of the worst El Nino we were ever going to have, well, it's been like summer all week. So much for the worst El Nino we're ever going to have and all weather people should be summarily fired.
-
"There is a 96 percent chance that El Niño conditions will remain through March, scientists at NOAA and Columbia University reported Thursday, and a 62 percent probability they will continue through May."
It gets worse - one guy actually warned people to get their roofs fixed and stock up - then he joked "Wouldn't it be funny if this whole thing didn't happen?" Then he goes on to say how certain it is and would be worse than 1998.
-
Thank you, DRs KevinH and FJL! I just took a 2-hour nap - much needed.
-
I'm thinking it's time to close the window. I am freezing.
-
It was just starting to snow when I fell asleep and picked up while I slept. Glad everyone's home here...
-
Congrats to DR ELMORE on completing his end of his taxes!
EL NINO!!!!
-
We have had about 3 inches of snow here - causing traffic havoc of course. I went to the store about 8 a.m. so I wouldn't have to go out tomorrow morning.
Weather mavens are predicting temps in the 60's by Friday.
-
The 3-CD set of SHOWBOAT was one of my first CD purchases......the booklet is a must DR VIXMOM, so yes I hope yours is included. There is no reason why it shouldn't be.
-
It's intermission and the show is going well. We were told that the show was sold out but only about two-thirds of the house is filled. Oh, well. I assume that they got the money anyway.
;)
-

Be back later.

So - what exactly are Wacky Noodles?
-
Not really a good Valentine's Day movie, still we went to "24 Years". I can't recall, has anyone seen this and commented?
-
Thank you, DRs KevinH and FJL! I just took a 2-hour nap - much needed.
A luxury I'd like to have.

You can find the recipe at the back of Murder at the Hollywood Division (http://kritzerland.com/murder_hwd_div.htm) as written by BK.
-
The Amish Project was a one-woman show in which she played more than a half-dozen characters. It was prompted by the shootings in Pennsylvania, but it was not based on fact. I was deeply moved and the actress was riveting, but I actually found the original story more horrifying.
-
Five!
-
I hooked up my new router as well as Blu-ray and now I can watch netlfix, youtube, etc on my TV!
-
I think my internet problems may be solved by the new router--fingers crossed.

-
Well, "Circle Mirror Transformation" is done for this second weekend. We don't come back until Thursday. I'm now off to get some food then concessions work.
Until later...again. :)
-
This theater has had an interesting season. THe first play featured an Italian puppet theater troupe's production of Pinocchio with 10 different puppets portraying Pinocchio. The Amish Project featured one woman as half-a-dozen or so characters.

DR VIXMOM - I has been my Goodwill experience at the stores and from Amazon Goodwill sellers, that the merchandise is very good. Mostly I think it's stuff that heirs give away.....or folks who are forced to downsize when they reach an age when they have to move.... A lot of it is very well cared for - and looking for a new home.
-
Mixed in with worthless and worn out junk - of course.

Season 4 of Inspector Lynley is finished and I am off to bed. I have to be up at 7:00 to leave by 9:00, and I hope to be home by 12:30.

Watching a bootleg of the Encores! production of The Bandwagon. It's not as good as the movie, and the first act only soars during the I Love Louisa number, but it's not the flop that the reviews made it out to be. The cast is game, especially Tracey Ullman, and the Dietz and Schwartz songs are still outstanding.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
-
I hope that everyone enjoyed a pleasant day and evening.
-
I think I will go to Walgreens tomorrow and buy myself a heart-shaped box of chocolate. I do love myself (at least, at half price).
-
I met my friend Sandy at the Emerald Queen in Fife for their Sunday Brunch. Today the line was clear down the hall at 11:00 am. It was billed as a "Special " Valentine Brunch. Except, it was all the same foods at the exact same price that they serve every Sunday. What a bargain!
-
The food was all good, but I saw nothing special about it.
-
They do have great corned beef hash and eggs Benedict.
-
That was it for the day.
-
My left knee was very sore today.
-
I came home, took a couple of muscle relaxers and a Vicodin, and went to bed.
