What vixmom said.  And no one stays home anymore when they realize they're sick.  In many cases, people are afraid to miss work.  But there's an increasing lack of etiquette about it these days.

TOD - People should stay home when they're sick, like my book group friend who attended Thursday evening with a fresh cold she picked up on an airplane (aka: flying germ factory).  Two of us there are in the non-contagious coughing stages and did not appreciate being exposed to something new.

SPELLING BEE had a great opening night.

It's being performed in a small church with the set built over the entire altar and everything -- which is especially amusing when the back panels open up to reveal the church's own cross and "Jesus" is standing there.  The church is quite willing to have the occasional musical (with erections and all) performed there, and to keep the set installed for the three-week run.  They'll be conducting their services on it.

The house was only half full, but the audience, which included a real live U.S. Senator (Connecticut's Richard Blumenthal, our former Attorney General) could not have been better.  The cast knew he was coming and would be one of the audience spellers, and that he'd be given the longest "Goodbye" so he could leave early.  No entourage or anything, just him and his wife, and I'm guessing they have a house in that area.

Like DR Jane I would never write in a book.  But the great thing about the kindle is that you can bookmark pages, you can highlight text and you can write notes. To me this is amazing, especially when writing reviews.  This is such a great feature.

I love book stores and I love real books. But didn't you say that you had never used your kindle. So you can't really say if you would like it or not.  I love reading and I was sure that I would never like using my kindle.  I was sure that I would just use it for stuff that was not available as a physical book.

But think about having all of your books with you at all times. You don't have to worry about storage or ripping pages. If you want a book on release day then you don't have to go anywhere to get it, it downloads to your device at midnight.  Sorry, but for anyone who is an avid reader I just cannot imagine them not having an e-reader.

I see that there are several comments regarding the E reader.

Don't get me wrong, I do not have anything against E Readers.  I just prefer to hold a book in my hands.  I love going to the book stores and picking out a book and paging through it.  I sometimes will pick out one based on the cover.  Of course I would have to be interested in the content first.

I definitely am an avid reader and do not need a E Book.  I purchased used copies at the library, read them and sometimes donate back.

When my friend showed me how to use a kindle, I got the general idea, and I definitely prefer physical books!

Yes, there is a place for both physical books and E Books, but for now, I am a "Old School" book reader.

I still choose books by the cover and have rarely been disappointed when doing so.  Yes, if the plot isn't of interest I leave the book behind.  I'm drawn to titles as well and admit avoiding books I should have read because the title didn't grab me.

I think people today don't have the sense to cover their moths and noses when they are sneezing or if they do they use theft hand and then touch things that others touch. Nobody carries a handkerchief anymore

Congrats on your good opening night audience!  The one time I saw the show was a local production and I was brought up to be one of the audience spellers.  I was actually chosen first and had never heard of the word I was asked to spell.  My word was "dengue (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dengue)."  I spelled it phonetically and had to sit down. ::)
