Well, you've read the notes, the notes certainly made turnips popular again, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently trying to find some damn turnip soup and wondering why I didn't use that wonderful photo with Henry Diltz in my book.
-
And the word of the day is: PARAPRAXIS!
-
Those are great photos in today's notes, BK.
-
Yes, the photos were great!
-
Good morning, all! For all of it's being chilly outside. it was too warm in my apartment and I slet poorly. Still, there were tons of dreams, the last one being all about "Evaline McCook" from Babes in Toyland, which has been big in my thoughts the past couple of days.
-
I have a simple day: Joshie and City Center. I am currently in the middle of "But Mr Adams." Joshie is a Finale madman, and I think he told me he only has four numbers left to copy. He's way ahead of me.
-
The only bad thing is that my leg - after the prodding, poking, and pummeling yesterday - is in a great deal of pain. But we go on.
-
A big group "thank you" to everybody who wished me a "Happy Birthday" yesterday. I tried to post an individual "thank you" for everybody, but I might have missed one or two of you.
BTW: Did you know that you can now sing "Happy Birthday to You" without having to pay a royalty? A few months ago, the courts ruled that the song is in the Public Domain. And, it really has been for years.
Also, next year, since I will be 76, I believe that the proper song to sing on my birthday is "76 Trombones" from THE MUSIC MAN. And, I will expect a parade.
;)
Again, thank you all.
-
Good morning, all.
A rather nice sleep was had, with but one silly dream at the end which of course wanted to go on repeating itself ad nauseum and infinitum.
et cetera, et cetera, et cetera
Coffee!
-
EXCEPTIONAL PICTURES, BK.
What a treasure trove. You should publish a book of them.
-
That STOP THE WORLD is stunning. Made me want to run and put the record on. And so I shall today.
Shirley Jones, beautiful.
The Weekday Heroes almost had me thinking for a moment that I could stand to live my childhood over again.
-
I'm now in my 30-minute wait before I head out, and it's such a bore with nothing to do but wait to leave.

Pipe Bursts at Drama Bookstore. Enter ‘Hamilton’ Creator to Drum Up Business.
A playlet in four acts, set in the Drama Book Shop, 250 West 40th Street, near Eighth Avenue, starring A BURST PIPE as the villain, and LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA, the creator of “Hamilton,” as one of many heroes.
Act I. Time: Early morning, Feb. 15
SHAWN VERRIER, a manager, arrives to open the store for the day. Sees that the front windows are fogged up. Looks puzzled. Unlocks the door. Looks up at ceiling. Sees water dripping — a lot of water. Sees a sheet of ice on the floor — water that had frozen after pouring down from A BURST PIPE upstairs. PIPE’S motivation for bursting is unclear.
MR. VERRIER senses that this is a catastrophe for the shop, which bills itself as the oldest performing-arts bookstore in the country. Tears up. Sobs...

Those are great photos in today's notes, BK.
I agree.
-
What GREAT photos!!! Thanks to MR BK for sharing them! That's why I take lots of photos.....they are not interesting today....but in a couple of decades - priceless!
-
Sending thoughts to DR TCB. Have you tried Mrs. Murphy's chowder?
-
We are expecting rain turning to sleet turning to SNOW. I do not think I will be traveling down the road to the meeting for LITTLE WOMEN.

21st CENTURY OLDIES
Volume 2: CLIMATE & GLOBAL WARMING, SUNG TO THE OLDIES
Sing-along parody lyrics by Fred Landau
21st century current events
sung to the tune of classic popular music
-
Good morning, all.
-
Congratulations, Fred, on the new book. Do you benefit if we buy it through Amazon?
-
Love the photos, BK, and now I want some soup. But I might prefer apple-parsnip to turnip.
-
Wednesday morning greetings! Another night of being awakened every hour or so by my cough and sleeping in my recliner from 3am on. I am no longer amused.
-
Because of my cough and the snowy weather forecast, we are not going north this evening for the dress rehearsal of Dayton Opera's OTELLO. My friend Sharon is in the chorus and gave us her free tickets.
-
Vibes for Ginny, TCB and anyone else in need.
-
ChasSmith, you are to blame/credit for a slew of Criterion discs coming my way, including a pair from my teen years that meant a lot to me: The Emigrants/The New Land.

Bummer.
-
No coughing vibes for DR GINNY. I am on a Tussin regimen that helps somewhat.
-
Tonight's LITTLE WOMEN meeting has been canceled, and I didn't have anything to do with it.
-
Congratulations, Fred, on the new book. Do you benefit if we buy it through Amazon?
Yes, but for the HHW regulars, glad to just send a copy!
-
Feel-better vibes to Ginny!!!
-
And more vibes to TCB!!!
-
Thank you for the vibes, DRs John G, JRand, and FJL!

Breaking news: President Obama has nominated
Dr. Carla Hayden to be Librarian of Congress (http://on.fb.me/1oHneMc)
A real librarian - what a concept...

Feel better vibes to DR Ginny!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thanks, DR Jennifer!

Okay, I got out the STOP THE WORLD album, and upon really thinking about it for a bit, had to conclude that I probably hadn't heard it in over thirty years. Ouch. So I put it on (this is the LP we're talking about) and listened to the first couple of tracks. Which led to me listening to the next couple of tracks. Before I knew it, I'd played the whole thing.
You probably have to be in the mood to enjoy it like I just did, but we'll blame BK's photo for putting me there! :) What a unique sound. It was downright refreshing. Do people do the Newley shows these days? It seems like you could pull it off, but I'm a poor judge of that.
I don't know if it's ever been remixed/remastered/reissued, but the recording leaves something to be desired. But that could also be this American pressing of a London LP. London recordings made in England were wonderful, and I wonder if I can find a British one of this. Anyway, a perfect trip down memory lane.
-
I, too, enjoyed your photographs, Bruce!

Nice!

I am home from City Center and ready for a nap.

Oy! Dr Phil has the world's dumbest whore on his show today, a former high school teacher who's suing the student she was banging.

I just love how you tell it like it is!!!!

Good Afternoon
-
We'll dispense with the lack of "Good Morning" and move on
-
Today, I'm heading down to Anaheim to attend the annual Religious Education Congress. I've been going since 2000. I used to go every year, and look forward to going, etc... but recently it's been every other year. Last year, my Pastor actually asked why I didn't go (expecting me to go) so I figured I'd better go this year. So, I'm going... however I kinda don't want to. But... I'm going. I'm sure it will be great, but as of now... I'm not into it.
-
I'm leaving at 4:00pm. That's part of the reason why I'm in a funk about it. Right in the middle of bay area traffic. AND the possibility of leaving later is possible (as I'm not going alone, but driving a few others who have the "Time" issue today) So, I will NOT be a happy camper if I have to leave after 5:00pm. But that just might happen.
-
Hello All;
Bk, I enjoyed your photos. Your right Shirley Jones is beautiful. You look good also!!!
-
TOD:
Would you ever consider writing a screenplay for a drama ?
-
MY QUOTE OF THE DAY:
"The musicals had a good happy feeling, saying that the world is a better place. They say it's not reality, but who cares? There's too much reality these days."
ANY GUESSES DR'S???
HINT: BK worked with this person.

LOL!

Driving and convention vibes for DR MATTHEW.
-
I read the description of the DR PHIL show.....and didn't think I could stand it....DR ELMORE validated my feeling.
-
It is now snowing.
-
It is now snowing.
Which is why Richard and I dashed out this afternoon to buy cookies and deliver them to Mom. She was a lot more chipper than I feel.
-
It is now snowing.
It's in the low 60s here today, but there's a horrible wind out there. So, you're seeing everything from winter wear to shorts at the supermarket.
-
Just off work. I need to hibernate.
-
I read the description of the DR PHIL show.....and didn't think I could stand it....DR ELMORE validated my feeling.
The woman is clearly an idiot, but to take this case public, blame the student, and expect to be validated and pitied for having sex with students and promoting it. As I said, the dumbest. whore. ever.
-
It's way too warm here. This weather is ridiculous.
-
Page two? Really?
-
Had an omelet and a bagel - at noon - Jerry's was empty. Yesterday, same time - jammed.
-
Picked up no packages.
-
Working at the piano, recording two more songs for Mr. Sheet Music guy.
-
Lights are completely out in the kitchen - not a breaker or fuse problem. There's a short somewhere - they've been flickering on and off occasionally for the last few months, and I guess it finally just gave up. Called the handyman who hopefully can get someone here today.
-
Great photos, BK!

We had a tornado warning an hour or so ago. There was a thunderstorm for a short time and it seems to have stopped for now.
-
Congratulations on your book, FJL!

My question for ASK BK DAY
When you were doing episodes of television shows at Columbia and Fox and other studios.....did you have your makeup done on the set/soundstage - or was there a studio makeup department in another building? Who was the best makeup/hair person you worked with on TV or movies?

Make-up was always done on the set, unless it was location and then there'd be a trailer. Mel Berns was makeup on the Partridge Family - he was great - did bunches of stuff at Columbia with him. I also did a few shows with one of the Westmore folks.
-
Wow....Mel Berns has some list of credits!
-
Congratulations on your book, FJL!
Thanks, Kevin!

I'm thrilled to tell you that orchestrating the LA show will be Lanny Meyers. As you all know, he orchestrated many albums for me, and did all my songs on the Sandy Bainum album.
But so you also know, I went to our very own elmore first - but for various reasons, that's just not viable for him on this particular project.

It's too bad that Larry isn't able to do it, but congrats on getting Lanny!
-
And now, I'm going home.
Until later.
-
Good evening!
-
Great photos, BK!
-
Congratulations on your latest book, Fred!
-
Safe travel vibes to Matthew!
-
See you later, George.
-
I suppose I will watch the Oscars on Sunday.
-
This may be the first year that I have not seen a single nominated film.
-
Although I am going to try and watch THE MARTIAN before then.
-
I was checking out EW's list of predicted winners.
-
Not really understanding the last few days - we end up okay, but three pages at eleven o'clock Eastern time? Seriously? Really?
-
They say Leo will be Best Actor.
-
Did a jog.
-
Page four? Really? REALLY?
-
I guess I will agree, although I have no desire to see that movie.
-
They say Sly for Best Supporting Actor
-
I agree with that.
-
I don't know either actress they are picking for Actress and Supporting actress.
-
Brie Larson for Best Actress.
-
She seems a popular choice.
-
I'll have to ask George about Alicia Vikander for Best Supporting.
-
EW seems to think that Best Picture will be the big surprise.
-
They are predicting THE BIG SHORT.
-
It sounds as good a choice as any.
-
There was a time that I could do a pretty good of picking the winners.
-
Of course, it helps to see some, if not all, of the nominated films.
-
But also, reading all of the reviews and articles helps too.
-
I don't know when I got so out of touch.
-
I still read EW, but maybe I don't retain what I read.
-
I no longer watch any of those so-called "entertainment" shows.
-
Maybe I just didn't care for this year's films
-
I think I will try harder this year.
-
I miss being in the know about the Oscars.
-
I'll have to ask George about Alicia Vikander for Best Supporting.
d
I saw her in Ex Machina and Testament of Youth. She's brilliant, as BK has written about her.
-
They are predicting THE BIG SHORT.
I keep reading predictions of Spotlight. But I doubt it.
-
Watching an ancient TV murder mystery from Levinson and Link called Guilty Conscience with Anthony Hopkins, Blythe Danner and Swoozie Kurtz. The print quality is horrible, but the script is fun, reminiscent of the delightful work they used to do on Columbo. And the acting is great.
-
That's the kind of stuff I enjoy watching.
-
Maybe I will do better with this year's Tonys.
-
Even without going to New York this year.
-
I think the answer to all of the above will be Hamilton when it's Tony time.
-
Or last year, or the year before...................
-
One more post.
-
Five!!
-
I need to get some sleep.
-
Good night, TCB -- and all.
-
Good night, John.
-
Okay, what to talk about on this page?
-
Thank you for the good thoughts, my friends.
-
Entertainment Weekly is picking a song I have never heard of from a movie I have also never heard of.
-

Added a new perk: The Signed Sondheim Book Perk
Okay, Sondheim lovers, just for you we have a pretty amazing thing from the personal collection of Bruce Kimmel. Craig Zadan's book Sondheim & Company, signed by Stephen Sondheim. But it gets better: It's signed to "Ruth and Flossie Without whom... Love, Steve." Ruth was producer Ruth Mitchell, who worked on Company, Follies, Night Music and others, and Flossie was costume designer Florence Klotz, who was Mitchell's partner. An incredible association copy.
-
I have been feeling like The Lone Ranger.

I was supposed to be at yhe dentist getting a root canal tonight but the dentist called me a half hour before the appointment (called personably not one of his staff) to apologize and say that a close family fried had passed and he needed to go to the service.

DR Ginny I am glad you decided to stay home tonight.

I just heard from Sandy. They have now scheduled a liver biopsy for tomorrow.
-
Good Vibes for Sandy!

Jane!
Hi :)
-
I need to get some sleep.
So do I.
-
'night
-
And the PEPs test on Monday.
-
I'll have to ask George about Alicia Vikander for Best Supporting.
She was very good, as was Eddie.
-
They are predicting THE BIG SHORT.
It was a very good movie.
-
They say Leo will be Best Actor.
I can't remember the last movie of his that I've seen.
-
They are predicting THE BIG SHORT.
It was a very good movie.
But why not THE REVENANT? They are predicting Best Actor and Best Director, so why not Best Picture?
-
The Sondheim book perk is $400. One of a kind - both Ms. Mitchell and Ms. Klotz have passed on, and it's such a sweet inscription. We just got a contribution and I was sure it was that, but it wasn't, so everyone still has a chance.
-
Damn! That is tempting.

Good night
-
I was going to list the book even higher, but this is for a good cause and I just want to reach our goal and I'll do whatever that takes. I'll add the Byrd paintings and maybe one of the Lost in Boston cover paintings, too.

Wel, all quiet on the western front.
-
Good night.
-
All quiet on ALL fronts, apparently.
-
How did this evening get away from me. Oh, yeah, I've been working non-stop.
-
I just watched two episodes of "The Shannara Chronicles."
-
Now, I'm watching "Suits."
-
Just had to share. :)
