Good morning, everyone!

We have had some wild weather extremes here in the past few days, from rain to extreme sun to a dusting of snow.

We spent the weekend binge-watching the final season of Downton Abbey. We just have the last two-hour episode to go.

Good morning, all!  I have physical therapy first thing this morning, then a trip to my pharmacy before I stop at the optical place to inquire what's going on with my new glasses. I expected a call on Friday that they were ready.

DR ChasSmith, you are right: learning Finale is a bitch and this old dog is not learning the tricks fast enough.  The one thing i've learned is that a lot of these young computer wiz kids are good at using it but completely incompetent about finessing the product into art.  I believe that printed music should be as attractive to the eye as it is to the ear, and I see too many pieces of music and band parts that look like complete crap.  Some of what's being printed by publishers these days is an insult to the engravers who produced art on the page 100 years ago.

We had about three inches of snow but it has now stopped.  It was warm enough the past few days that the snow melted where it hit pavement.

Yes!!  The grass and trees and branches have a complete midwinter style covering, but nothing -- I repeat, NOTHING -- stuck to any part of the driveway.

It's ... an Easter Miracle!

DR Elmore, that was a welcome paragraph on this Monday morning!  I've meant to bring it up on any number of occasions over the past few years.  This has annoyed and saddened me for some time, and it gets ever worse.  As in any kind of publishing, there's an art to general layout and appearance and a multitude of details, and very few are practicing it.

In show scores, which I'm mostly familiar with in this regard, forget about it.  MTI is a major offender.  Their long-needed redone P/C scores, e.g. The Music Man, are a godsend, but the layouts and notation decisions in many of them look like raw beginners efforts.

Ironically, the Finale folks themselves talk about this.  In the latest newsletter they made a few observations. using the "house styles" of classical piano music publishers to illustrate, that instantly resonated with me.  Hell, some of the music that I haven't been able to make myself get rid of is partially due to its pure physical beauty.

I am pleased to announce ROBINSON & RAFT,  the second of two (2) new stage plays in THE HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS collection.

Edward G. Robinson (LITTLE CAESAR) and George Raft (SCARFACE) may have been Hollywood's premier "tough guys," but off-screen they were totally unalike...and their personalities often clashed.  Robinson was a man of culture, who owned a magnificent art collection, while Raft's interests were baseball, boxing, horse racing and women.

As the play begins, both actors' careers are at a low ebb.  Robinson has been affected by the Hollywood blacklist, while Raft's former Hollywood associates have pulled away from him because of his underworld connections and the Beverly Hills assassination of his friend, mobster "Bugsy" Siegel.

The script of the three (3) character play is available in both paperback and Kindle editions.  Production licensing rights are available.

Just had a weird thing happen with my MacBook - the keyboard stopped functioning.  I'd press keys and nothing would appear in my email, Google search box, or the posting area here at HHW.  Fortunately, the "mouse key" was working, so I logged out of everything and shut the computer down for a few minutes.  Upon restart, everything seems OK, but I hope it's not a sign of a dying computer.

A banner day!  But honestly, she could have waited a little longer, enjoyed having the Easter eggs on it, and then it would have been all ready to receive the Fourth of July decorations.

Thanks, DR Jane.  This commitment not only takes up our Sundays, but we don't do much on Saturday evenings beforehand and we're pretty useless on the following Mondays.  Richard will be there Thursday-Sunday this weekend, but I'm staying home to cat-sit and prepare a nice Easter Sunday dinner for all of us.

I have often threatened to leave the tree up all year and just change the decorations - snowflakes in January, hearts in February, shamrocks in March, etc.  DR Vixmom is not far behind us this year - our tree just went back to the basement last week.  The ornaments had been removed in January, though.

I just named my favorite Bogart film that he Raft turned down ;)  I didn't know or remember about Double Indemnity.

THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT was probably my first Bogart movie.  I was more focused on Bogart's story than Rafts.  As I watched more Bogie films I understood why.

I'm glad Raft was a nice guy.

Had I known they were delivered on Friday, I'd have come by on Saturday morning to pick them up.  The UPS and USPS sites indicated a March 22nd delivery date on both of them.

I like white winter lights on trees, not on Christmas trees left standing.

We haven't had a tree in a long while but it was always down by the 31st, the 26th if Keith had his way.

I really like the Cleopatra artwork.....that is similar to what is on the soundtrack LP....except that Rex Harrison is part of the picture.

The story goes that a huge billboard went up in Hollywood featuring just Burton and Taylor.....and Harrison's agent called Fox and reminded them that contractually, he had to be included.....and so the painters went back and added him:

Been working on the LA show second act structure - in the new version one song is completely gone, and I wrote a set-up for one that was in danger - I think it will make it work.  If I keep that one, there's only one other song that's in danger - I'd have to find a new place for that one.

I found out today that amazon.com now has its own delivery system.  I saw the truck with the amazon "A" just as I pulled in from work.  I had a feeling the driver had a package for me so I asked him if was looking for my building.  He said yes so I showed him my ID and he gave me the package.

The package contained the CD of the recent production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame with Michael Arden and Patrick Page.

Monday morning greetings!  Richard and I are taking it easy today because the older we get the harder those Lima Sundays become.  His "retirement" can't come soon enough...

Did he set a date?

Sometime around July 1...

Oh good.  I worry about those long Sunday, way too early, long drives.

Cat-sitting, a perfect reason to stay home :)

I'm a little nervous about being on my own with her for 48 hours or so.  Just this morning I had to clean up a little cat barf - for the first time in my life...

Get used to it ;)

I finally called fitbit and set it up.  The original download was hiding in my computer which is why it wouldn't accept any new downloads.

My new Galaxy S7 tracks all the same things a fit bit does.  At least I think it does.  I'm not sure I like knowing how many steps I take a day, lol.  I may have to turn that app off

Back from a cabaret show - I shan't speak of it much in the notes, for obvious reasons, since it involved fifteen-year-old girls - ill conceived, pointless, presumptuous, and other things.  When I began this disgusting trend four YEARS ago with the Melody Hollis act (when she was thirteen) the first thing I said to her and her parents was, "If we do this and we're successful, watch the floodgates open."  It happened slowly at first and now it's every kid.  Only they have no clew WHY the Melody show worked and why these others don't.  Yes, you can have all your family and friends attend and scream and yell, but if you put this stuff in front of an audience of strangers, goodbye Charlie.  With Melody's show, she could have done it anywhere for anyone and it would have worked.  Why?  Because I know what I'm doing, it's that simple.  All these other people see what we do and just copy us (James Corden being the latest example of absolute chutzpah), only they don't know how to structure these things so they work, or even what the motor of a show like this has to be.  It ain't easy.

Good to see you back, Cillaliz.

Thanks.  Been crazy busy, I've been in Rotary for 4 months and they just asked me to be on the board, I'm vice president of my PEO chapter, now treasurer of Reciprocity (sort of a central committee for the local PEO chapters) I'm on the Public Museum board, flute choir and  concert band.   OH, and on the side I run a business and just finished a criminal jury trial.   The trial puts me behind on a lot of other things, but it's all good.  Lots to do.  Better than the alternative

DR VIXMOM got the Christmas tree down!

A banner day!  But honestly, she could have waited a little longer, enjoyed having the Easter eggs on it, and then it would have been all ready to receive the Fourth of July decorations.

I have often threatened to leave the tree up all year and just change the decorations - snowflakes in January, hearts in February, shamrocks in March, etc.  DR Vixmom is not far behind us this year - our tree just went back to the basement last week.  The ornaments had been removed in January, though.

I kept my tree up thru the Super Bowl.  I didn't plan it that way, it just worked out that way.

Had to just waste a lot of time making the stupid opt-out list for Sun Valley Serenade - so sad when film music fans are stuck in their own little worlds and won't take chances on anything out of their little comfort zones - how on earth do you ever learn anything or expand your brain if you only stay in a little box?  I just don't get it.  Some of my happiest discoveries are thing I took chances on.
