Well, you've read the notes, the notes were at long last short, and now it is time for you to post until the short cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: STARETS!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
First post after Dino at the piano.
-
Happy Purim!

Good morning, all! The alarm was set for 6:00, and I was anticipating the alarm ringing isnce 4:30am. At 5:30, I figured, to hell with it and got out of bed. In another 90 minutes I will board a bus to 23rd Street to see my podiatrist. I like her a lot; she's a very sassy doctor.
-
BRIGHT STAR opens tonight, and I wish it a long and happy run, no matter what the old couple next to me thought. I like the cast and the fluid, wonderful staging. If I have a quibble, the educated, sophisticated Alice Murphy's lyrics have the same non-rhymes and near-rhymes of the young Alice Murphy 23 years earlier. Beyond that, I canot sing the praises of this lovely show enough.

I need to hit the market. I need milk for my coffee!
-
DR John G, when I was watching "Under the Greenwood Tree" at Christmas, I kept thinking, are all of Thomas Hardy's plots about two or more men circling a pretty young woman?
-
More coffee!
-
good morning to all

Good morning, all.
Coffee. Much coffee!
-
Twenty-plus years playing the same show???
Most interesting. Truly amazing.

It is supposed to snow today. Fingers crossed it will less than what is expected. I hate driving in the snow. :(
I thought we were done with snow for this year. :(

I'm reading The Well-Beloved now and it's about a man who's horny for just about anything in his path. Whenever a new skirt passes by, he claims it's the spirit of the well-beloved and goes after her. Of course, that's all dolled up in late 19th century prose that is rather laughable.
Jude the Obscure was about the destruction of the soul. Wasn't any lust for life in that horror. Even the sex was more out of some animalistic need than because of love.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I'd rather be asleep. We had a huge thunderstorm in the middle of the night that kept me up too long. Looks like lightning struck the big oak tree next door to me.
-
Thank you, George, in advance for the DVD.
-
I wonder why we say thunder snow but not thunder rain.
-
Thursday morning greetings! It's Maundy Thursday and Fr. Richard is off to Lima for his busiest 4 days of the year. I'm staying home to cat-sit and prepare a nice Easter Sunday dinner - something we haven't had at home since 2009.
-
I wonder why we say thunder snow but not thunder rain.
Don't we say thunderstorm?
-
And I am home. Last week my trip t 23rd Street to see the orthopedist took me 70 minutes. Today's trip to the same location took 45.
-
I discovered a phone message from a person I'd prefer to never deal with. What fresh hell?
-
Good morning, all!

The long national nightmare is over - Jackie finally went home on Hell's Kitchen last night.

DR CILLA LIZ posted some scary SNOW pics on BookFace! Who knew? I wonder how much snow DR SINGDAW ended up getting?
It's here now, but in the form of RAIN.

One of the news stories that's made me the most angry was the morning radio jocks who were running a contest for who could drink the most water without peeing. A nurse who happened to be listening to the show called in and told the jocks that people could die from drinking too much water, but they ignored her and just joked, "Did everyone sign their release forms?" The contestants couldn't hear the broadcast from the room they were put in, and never got the warning. Sure enough a young woman died, orphaning her three young children. She was trying to win a Nintendo game box for her kids that only cost about $350.00. The radio jocks were fired, but frankly, I think they should be in prison. It was just such a ridiculous tragedy that was completely avoidable.

I'm up, I'm up - not really possible to sleep due to hammering and noise from these jerks building all over this neighborhood. Maybe seven hours of sleep.

And I am off to River City.

My hubby and I had great friends over yesterday for dinner.
We served meatloaf, scalloped potatoes and mixed veggies. Our friends gave us Polish cheesecake to serve for desert. It was delicious.
A good time was had by all!!!

Maybe because you rarely have thunder snow.

thun·der·snow

noun
noun: thunder-snow
snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
"thundersnow happens in Iowa about once every winter"

I had to look it up-lol

There's a "new" musical version of Roman Holiday with Cole Porter songs stuffed in. Sounds depressing.
I remember Porter writing songs about Paris, not Rome.

From DR Ron:
I've read, on Facebook via The Masquers Club of Hollywood, that actor Peter Brown has died. This is not "official" as there was no link to an obituary. One of the members who knows Brown notified the club.
As of yesterday it is official :(

He passed away on Monday from Parkinson's.

I've never heard of thunder snow. But then here in the PNW, we rarely have thunder of any kind, at all. :-\

I once read an article about a fraternity hazing where they had pledges drink a lot of water (instead of alcohol) and one pledge died, also. :(

I loved The Ghosts of Versailles when I saw it years ago on Live from the Met. Now, it seems that the Wolf Trap opera company is showing a video of its own production online for the next six months.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/style/wp/2016/03/22/new-opera-online-wolf-trap-opera-plunges-into-the-stream/?hpid=hp_hp-cards_hp-card-arts%3Ahomepage%2Fcard
This is not a Live from the Met-type production, according to the notes, but more cinematic. I'm looking forward to scraping some time together to watch it.
They plan on taping future productions, too.

The author of the article has not seen the show. The nudity within the show is not titillating, but people are curious and will (hopefully) want to see attractive people naked for 22 minutes...we could really use the money. ;)
-
Actually, the actress drops her robe and then sits down in a chair and is hidden for 21 and a half of those minutes. The actor, on the other hand, disrobes and pretty much faces the audience for most of that scene. He's the one who's really exposed, literally and metaphorically.
-
The chair that she sits in is kind of like this, but not leather:
The chair is place sideways facing off left, so she is completely hidden.

Now, I don't mean to minimize her apprehension in any way, nor to imply that he shares her discomfort with playing the nude scene (which he actually doesn't), but it seems that people are much more concerned about the woman being nude than the man, when there are two people who are nude on stage, not one.

Back from a walk-through for the sound person - a young fellow but seems very on top of his game. Then I had a cup of soup and a sandwich, picked up a package and am now home. Heard the latest two Lanny orchestrations, which are fab. Waiting for him to call to chat about a couple of things. I had an idea last night - the song I wrote for What If and put in during the third week of its run - Born Too Late (the disco song that's on the second Guy Haines CD) - I was not feeling strong about opening act two with a "soft" reprise of an act one number - it would be cute but it's really not a way to start an act - although some shows do like to gentle in with the opening of act two. But Born Too Late we've done twice at Kritzerland and it always stops the show because it has the dance section in the middle and people just look back on the era with such fondness. And I can open it up in the middle just before the dance, and talk about LA's great discos, like Osko's and others. What do you think? Kind of a neat way to start act two - but I also have the option of starting act two with the melting pot number Grant is supposed to do music for and then I'd put the disco number in act one where the melting pot number is - those are easy flips.

Apparently the cherry blossoms have not quite hit their peak. They should do so in a couple of days.

There is snow. And now it is freezing rain. They didn't plow the roads at all.

As to Roman Holiday - it's been kicking around for fifteen YEARS - they did it at the Muni - same guy who did the book for White Christmas. He's not a writer - in fact, he's terrible.

It's a great number that's proven to be successful. Otherwise not knowing the show, I would think that it would be a great second act opener, but since it's an easy flip, you certainly can try out each number and see which actually works best.

Hello, everyone.
-
Hi, Vixmom.
A shorter day today, I hope.
-
I was just about to relax for a bit when my bank called, asking if I'd written a check to a person I've never heard of. No. And none of my checks are missing, so someone counterfeited a check. Oy! I've spent the last hour talking to my bank. Tomorrow I'll have to drive over to the bank and open a new account. Naturally, I wrote a utility check just the other day and it hasn't cleared yet. I'll probably get hit with a fee for that, since my account is now frozen. Gawd!
-
:oToday was not a good day.... I left the office at 6:30 in sheer disgust... I'll have to go in around 6 to get everything done for tomorrow

Vibes you can replace the check before you are charged!!
Did the bank also call the police?

I went to church for Maudy Thursday... I desperately needed it. This year we had "dinner church" soup And bread by candlelight while we listened to a sermon . Shared bread and wine and then processed into the sanctuary singing "what wondrous love " then knelt in silence for the stripping of the altar

The bank said they do not notify the police and since the teller was suspicious and called me, no real crime took place.
I spoke to the utility company and they just told me that they'll reverse the charge if I have something from the bank saying why I had to freeze the account, so that's good.

Jeanne I am sorry about your bank problems, but no crime was committed? Forgery? Fraud? I would think they could come up with something to charge the person.
-
Vixmom, you just can't go on working at this job.
-
Tomorrow and Saturday we may have a little sunshine.
-
But Sunday we will have on and off showers.
-
I want to eat some bunny ears - chocolate, of course.
-
I talked to Sandy for a couple of minutes today.
-
DR CILLA LIZ posted some scary SNOW pics on BookFace! Who knew? I wonder how much snow DR SINGDAW ended up getting?
It's here now, but in the form of RAIN.
I think we got a lot more than Singdaw. Officially we got 14.1 inches of snow. They just cleared my street at 9:00 tonight
-
He is going back to his own place rather than staying with someone else.
-
OMG what horrible weather! My key won't fit in my car side door (frozen). But at least i was able to get in by the passenger side. And the driver's side door will unlock and open. I just can't unlock it with my key!
There is snow. And now it is freezing rain. They didn't plow the roads at all.
Hmmm, DR Cilla it sounds worse than your weather.
Well, we had rain, hail, thundersnow, 14 inches of snow, slush that will freeze tonight......
-
He will wear a First Alert device.
-
His son insisted or he couldn't go home alone.
-
Hi TCB
-
His next chemo is scheduled for a week from today.
-
Those First Alert device are good things. I can understand wanting to be home.
-
Now he knows what symptoms to watch out for.
-
He sounds very worn out.
-
And I can't go and visit because he has stairs leading to his place.
-
I couldn't go anywhere today even if I wanted to as the street wasn't cleared, but I ended up taking the first nap I've taken in years and slept for three hours. Boy did that feel good. I wanted to get some work done, but apparently I needed to rest

I talked to Sandy for a couple of minutes today.
That's great!
-
And I can't go and visit because he has stairs leading to his place.
Darn.
-
And I can't go and visit because he has stairs leading to his place.
But you can call him to say hello and chat so even though he's alone he knows you are with him.
-
And now, we're done! Appropriately good applause with no automatic standing o, which is a good thing.
-
Be back later.
-
I will try to eat something and wind down. I'm still feeling rattled.
I am sure, especially if you know the person. I hope you don't.
-
:oToday was not a good day.... I left the office at 6:30 in sheer disgust... I'll have to go in around 6 to get everything done for tomorrow
Sorry to hear that. I do hope you can find a new job soon. I'm sure this got old long, long ago.
Ditto!

Gawd!
Vibes you can replace the check before you are charged!!
Did the bank also call the police?
The bank said they do not notify the police and since the teller was suspicious and called me, no real crime took place.
I spoke to the utility company and they just told me that they'll reverse the charge if I have something from the bank saying why I had to freeze the account, so that's good.
No real crime took place? Are they for real? What a joke.
I know.

Good.

I guess not.

His son insisted or he couldn't go home alone.
Smart son. Will he have help at home?
-
And I can't go and visit because he has stairs leading to his place.
Not good for himm either if he is too week to walk the stairs. I hope that doesn't happen.
-

A 3 hour nap, wow. You must have been tired.
-
Whoops, sorry.
Hi, Cilla!
-
Time to switch over to the iPad.
-
Working on the LA show - wrote a set-up for Paul Gordon's song, which I think really helps it, but also moving the number that was opening act two to just before it REALLY helps. And putting Born Too Late at the top of the act is just a fine idea, I think.
-
Where did everybody go?
-
No offense to you, BK.
-
Your not part of everybody, because you run the place.
-
You are kind of the Norman Bates of HHW!
-
He left!
-
Perhaps I didn't explain that well.
-
He took all the Guests with him.
-
In a little while from now,
-
If I'm not feeling any less sour,
-
Hello, 1 Guest! What's your name?
-
Hi, Tom!
-
And I'm home now. ;D
-
Hi, George!
-
Let's get to page seven.
-
It shouldn't take long.
-
We both just need to push.
-
C'mon George!
-
We are almost there!
-
One more shot and we have done it.
-
Seven
-
Way to go, George, we did it!
