Well, you've read the notes, the notes were going once, going twice, and then they sold, and now it is time for you to post until the sold cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CLAIRAUDIENCE!
-
First post after BK!
-
Topic of the Day: I don't think that I've ever been to a genuine live auction...other than auctions that were fund raisers for charities. And I know that eBay doesn't count.
;)
-
Now I shall say good night, George.
-
Good morning. First post after TCB!
-
Good morning to all
-
TOD
The NYCPL Theater Collection about 15 years ago auctioned off a lot of the memorabilia. The best thing I got from the collection I got (and bid on it by accident) was a playbill with Cole Porter's autographic from his flop show Around the World in 80 Days.
When I was a kid I went to Vermont and there was farm auction and I usually bid on old 78's and books. I got a lot of stuff for 25 cents at the time.
-
In case I missed it.
Dear former reader Anthony Dale's mother passed away earlier this week.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I hope this morning's therapy does not leave me a wreck all day. My Oxford, OH, friend Roy is in the City with his wife, who's attending something at the UN, and I hope to visit with him this afternoon before we go to the theatre. I'd like to know I can walk to the bus after the show!
-
DR TCB, I meant to mention your new avatar yesterday. Very nice photo!
-
I dreamed about the Lortel Theatre, THREEPENNY OPERA, and Jo Sullivan Loesser last night. There were other dreams, but that's all I remember.
-
Good morning, all.
-
That sounds like some pretty good dreaming there, DR Elmore.
-
I've enjoyed a couple of solid, peaceful sleeping nights in a row, which is damned nice for a change, and the dreams have all but disappeared by the time I'm up.
-
Other than eBay, my only experiences have been a couple of silent auctions for silly stuff, and for a couple of years, several visits to a nearby rural-ish auction house. That was a great deal of fun for browsing various and sundry things, occasionally bidding on something, watching the auctioneers, and soaking up the general atmosphere and camaraderie.
Then they decided they could do better as an online auction house, which I thought for their general range of goods and activity, was inappropriate. It destroyed the regional feel and the whole social "real life" experience of it all. (This was nothing like the kind of venue or level that BK is talking about.)
I've never sold anything at auction, only bought a few things, but I think auctions are fascinating and an exciting experience. If you haven't tried one, even as a spectator out for some spectating fun, do it sometime.
-
I have also only participated in online or silent auctions.....I have attended a few farm or household item auctions....but nothing was very interesting.....
Not the same thing - but this is my favorite song about sales:

There wasn't a ton of snow but it is still everywhere. And now I will have to wear winter boots and look at a winter wonderland outside. :(
I am really not understanding this weather. It can be 60F, then snow 5cms, then rain, then 40s. Crazy. And not in a good way.
-
Bruce-- what kinds of things were you selling at the auctions?
-
Last night I listened for my first time ever to the original London cast recording of The Music Man with Van Johnson and Patricia Lambert. Fascinating and well worth having. I could have done without the put-together Finale, but overall, I was really liking it. This Sepia CD is a bargain, with its inclusion of Meredith Willson demos.
-
Good morning, all.
-
TOD:
I've participated in a few charity auctions, but, frankly, I just don't have thousands of dollars on hand to bid. I limit myself usually to the silent auctions.
-
Good Morning All:
TOD:
No I have never participated in any type of Auction!!!
-

Most people don't say "winter wonderland" followed by an unhappy face. I get it but it sill gave me a chuckle.
I think it was our 4th April on the East Coast that it snowed and we were thrilled. The neighbors found our joy annoying and said just wait a few more winters and then see how we liked it. They were right. I don't ever want snow ;D

Does ebay count?

Van Johnson, hmmm. Is he good?
-
I think it is safe to say I did not have a reaction worth mentioning from yesterday's treatment :)
-
TOD:
I just don't have thousands of dollars on hand to bid.
I think fifty or sixty bucks, a few times, was about my speed.
-
Home from therapy, I'll see how I feel in a couple of hours.
-
I have the LaserLight version of the London Music Man. Van is okay....but my version doesn't have a lot of songs, only 12 of them.... The Sepia doesn't have a track list on Amazon, so I don't know if it has more of the songs......
Both are available on Amazon.

-
Good morning, tutti.
-
Ciao!
-
May I candidly confess something:
I have never -- ever -- been a Van Johnson fan.
Never.
-
I may have to get that CD DR CHAS SMITH.....thanks. My LaserLight doesn't have Iowa Stubborn or Shi-Poopi among other things.
And of course one of my favorite things is the kid in Wells Fargo Wagon who says:
"It could be the bah-nd instrumunts!"
-
If an (ahem) archival copy would do, let me know.
-
Thursday afternoon greetings! I woke up about 5:30 this morning and could not go back to sleep, so I moved to my Momcave recliner and read for a while. Finally went back to sleep there about the time I'd usually get up and slept fitfully until about 10. Goofy morning.
-
Waiting for my friend to show up.
-
Other than eBay, my only experiences have been a couple of silent auctions for silly stuff, ....
I forgot about silent auctions. I've been to a lot of those, but again, only non-profit fund raiser silent auctions.
-
Have never been involved in an auction where folks bid with numbers or hand signals, etc.
Just the online kind.
Have been very successful online-wise.
-
I'm up, I'm up, barely. Even as I was eating some of the stupidest food you could eat way too late last night, I knew I would regret it and indeed when I awoke at five-thirty in a near-vomitous state I did regret it. I never did throw up, but man my throat was burning like someone had blow torched it and it took three hours to get my stomach calm enough where I could fall asleep, which was not so easy given the morons next door - yesterday when I was up at seven, not a peep, and not a peep all day. Today they're doing the barn dance. I probably got four hours of sleep.
-
In the auction, most of my items were scripts - I decided it was silly to keep them so back in September of last year I sent them off and was given an advance.
-

This is sooooo nice. Thank you. :)
-
May I candidly confess something:
I have never -- ever -- been a Van Johnson fan.
Never.
Neither is Keith but I like him. Imagining him as Harold Hill is a stretch for me.
-
I walked with a neighbor to the coffee shop, had a snack, and then we walked back. I think, and her app agreed, it is about a 4 mile round trip. I should have reset my fitbit before we began. My iPhone app says I did not walk 4 miles.
-
I'm listening to Van Johnson do Ya Got Trouble. He is better, than anyone I've heard, than anyone else that isn't Robert Preston.
-
Thanks DR CHAS SMITH, one has magically appeared.
-
Good afternoon.
-
TOD:
I just don't have thousands of dollars on hand to bid.
I think fifty or sixty bucks, a few times, was about my speed.
At the Animal Defense League fundraiser the other day, the grand prize consisted of 6 tickets on the court to a Spurs Game, six tickets to a playoff game, access to a private lounge and six tickets to somebody like Carrie Underwood (I can't remember the singer). It went for $7,500. It was a steal since each of the ball game tickets sells for about $1,000 apiece.

This is the version I have, too.

May I candidly confess something:
I have never -- ever -- been a Van Johnson fan.
Never.
We saw him at a dinner theater back when I was in high school. And we met him afterward. He was charming. But I can't think of a single movie I went out of my way to see because he was in it.
-
Yesterday it was close to 100 degrees, today it's raining. Go know. That doesn't stop the morons from working.
-
Guess I'll venture out and attempt to eat a little something mild.

Bananas

Richard just went a little crazy and ate a hard boiled egg.
-
I like Van Johnson with Esther Williams, Lucille Ball, and Keenan Wynn in Easy to Wed, which is kind of a low energy remake of Libeled Lady.....and I like him in The Caine Mutiny.....

I went to a nice little auction house once and was able to see what would be at the next auction. I never went to an actual auction that wasn't a fund raiser.

I still find it interesting about bananas. If they aren't just right they can upset my stomach.

I can watch "In the Good Old Summertime" over and over again. I think the pairing of Van Johnson and Judy Garland is wonderful.

A couple of years ago (maybe three), TCM showed both that and "The Shop Around the Corner" on the same day. I recorded them and think that they're both delightful! :)

I agree.

If I believe fitbit I have walked 9 1/2 miles today. My phone app is much less and since it didn't give me full credit for the 4 mile walk I did this morning I will believe my fitbit.

No wonder I am tired.

Eubie is in the building and shipping tomorrow morning. Anyone get a book today?

No book...yet. Can't wait for that and "Eubie!" :D
-
Good evening!
-
TOD: The only auction I've won is an online auction of Barbra stuff. I won the wooden magazine rack that was on stage during her 1994 concerts.
-
Nice avatar, TCB!
-
I'm also not a big fan of Van Johnson, though I thought he was amusing in Brigadoon and I Love Lucy.
-
Well, I must be off. I'm going to see RAMS (http://olympiafilmsociety.org/rams/) with a couple of friends. It looks like a very interesting movie.
-
Here's a synopsis:
In the gripping Icelandic drama, RAMS, sibling rivalry results in tragic circumstances. In a secluded valley two brothers live side by side, but havent spoken to each other for 40 years. Gummi and Kiddi live on adjacent farms raising a rare breed of sheep, which has been a family ambition for decades. Highly competitive and steeped in animosity the bearded brothers bury their brooding in their work. When one wins a competition, which the other finds unfair, he decides to take revenge in the worst way possible alerting the authorities that his brothers stock may be carrying a deadly disease. As word gets out and everyone in the valleys livelihood is threatened, the brothers must reunite in order to save the only lives theyve ever known. A.O. Scott of the NY Times calls Rams, a truly remarkable, eccentric work.

Be back later.

TOD: We went to auctions when we were first married. My DH spent all the money on junk, so I wouldn't allow him to go to any more.

They really upset my stomach. I've started eating a small bit of J.B.'s banana every day to counteract that, but it hasn't really helped.

So, how many rattlesnakes were on the trail, Laura, and you without your camera?

I really want to see this. Have only heard good things about it.
-
Meanwhile, I'm watching Ant Man.
-
Oy.
-
I'm sort of enjoying it.
-
Hello, 1 guest.
-
We seem to be a bit behind right now.
-
Page three, really?
-
Really, page 3?
-
Really.
-
Truly.
-
Four!
-
It's not at nice as five.
-
But beggars and posters can't be choosers.
-
No book today, but I'm getting mine with an Indiegogo collection.
-
It's well worth the wait. It's my favorite of BK's novels.
-
But then again, it's got a lot about restaurants in it, a topic close to my waist and my heart.
-
Had good luck at the library this week.
-
They had Carol as well as Ant Man on the shelf.
-
They also had "I'll See You in My Dreams" with Blythe Danner and Sam Elliott. I've read really good things about that one.
-
Now, will somebody give me the time to watch them?
-
Gratuitous Post No. 100.
-
When I was at my other job a business across the hall, went out of business and there was a auction of all their furnishings I bought a couch for $100. That was brand new. We had it for many years
-
No book here yet, but then I am clear across the country
-
TCB I love your bones avatar. Very handsome
-
How in the world did spellcheck take "new" and turn it into "bones"?!!!
-
Work is just ridiculous. I have been leaving by 7:15 so I can get things in fedex and then going home
-
Of course things are not being done
-
Oh well
-
Vixter and the boyfriend's lease application was approved

Just one - but it was just a couple feet off the trail. Would have been a great opportunity.

Here's a story about a production of Sweeney Todd in which the shave was a little too close for comfort:

For me it would have been a great opportunity to shriek and run away

I don't mind snakes in general. Bip

I gave up on that one.

Five!

But I don't want to be near the bitey kind

Or the squeezy kind either

FedEx... Federal express.... I have to go to the FedEx depot to drop off packages if I miss the 6:15 box pickup in the building and the FedEx depot closes at 7:30

I liked Ant Man. Paul Rudd, who had a hand in writing the screenplay, kept the humor level high. Very funny.
And Michael Douglas was the best I've seen him in ages.
-
DR TCB, I meant to mention your new avatar yesterday. Very nice photo!
Thank you, sir!

LOL. Oh, I thought spellcheck changed something to fedex.

Finished with my viewing and am now uploading some videos - whatever I get done I'll post in the notes tonight.

Actually, I saw Van Johnson in LA CAGE on Broadway. He was really wonderful.

Vixdad and I were watching days of wine and roses..... It was so depressing and miserable we had to turn the channel

We ended up with Keeping The Faith with Ed Norton, Ben stiller and Jenna elfman

Whatever happened to her? She was so popular and then. *poof*. She was gone
-
I liked Ant Man. Paul Rudd, who had a hand in writing the screenplay, kept the humor level high. Very funny.
And Michael Douglas was the best I've seen him in ages.
I have not seen Ant man. But I saw Paul Rudd talking about it on The Tonight Show.. He said he was explaining it to his son (about 8 years) and the kid said "dad that's really lame couldnt you get a cool hero movie?"

Hello, 0 Guests!

I took an old friend out to lunch today.

It was nice to spend some time with him.

It was a beautiful day to dine down on the waterfront.

We didn't quite make it to 80 degrees in Tacoma, but we were close.

Thank you, DR John, for almost single-handedly getting us through to page five tonight.
-
Thanks to all the conversation here, I ended up buying the Sepia CD of the London cast recording of THE MUSIC MAN.
-
How did it get to be Thursday so quickly? It was just Monday.

Did I mention that my friend, Sandy, ended up back in the hospital as a result of his second chemo treatment?

It was very...interesting. Beautifully shot with minimal dialogue and music, it was the kind of movie that will never be made in the US. The synopsis is pretty much the entire plot of the movie. There were moments of humor, but it was definitely a drama. Also, it has an ambiguous ending. I don't always like that...but that's just me.
