Ditto.
She is hoping to be a co-worker with former DR Jason
I would like to read the Maguire novel again. Some of the book changes really bothered me. I did feel the book and the musical were playing to two different groups: the novel is a fascist allegory for adult readers of the Oz books; the musical is aimed at fans of the 1939 film.

I should have stayed home. The play was 90 minutes of torture I can never get back. I thought the premise was really good, but I didn't believe half of what the characters uttered. It wasn't good.
Most of the time I felt I was watching several good community theatre actors who needed to learn that not every line is important, that much of acting is knowing what to toss off, and that their characters are not always sincere and earnest.

What was it again?
I remember an ABC Movie of the Week that had two married couples Alan Alda and Barbara Feldon and Doug McClure and Connie Stevens.
They decided they wanted to switch partners. It was called Playmates, and was really pretty funny. What DR ELMORE wrote reminded me of my favorite part. Alda was kind of a pretentious guy who was trying to "educate" Stevens....who tried her best. Finally she snapped:
"And what about that play you took me to? I couldn't understand any of it! A girl came out a screamed 'I'm forbidden to love my brother', and a guy came out and yelled 'I'm forbidden to love my mother' then everybody started screaming....all I could think of was I'm forbidden to leave this theatre!!!"
The couples got back together.....Feldon was an artist and painted a naked picture of McClure which was pretty sexy....and the last scene was Alda back at the amusement park trying to pick up another young girl.....
I read a few things - lots of laughs, happily. Then a good writer named Dennis Etchison came and asked if I'd speak to his writing class after the signing. So, I did that for twenty minutes and that was also great fun for me.
I suspect The Vixter will land a job rather quickly. She has lots of food service experience, always helpful in a pinch, and has a good work ethic.
Vibes it goes smoothly and she's happy with the move.

This afternoon we saw the tour of 42nd Street. Lots of fun.
Thank you all for the kind words and vibes for my friend, Tracy, and her family.
I found out a little more information about Felis' son and grandson, and it makes me even sadder. It appears that her son, Mark, went to the hospital with H1N1. When his girlfriend wanted to visit him, she couldn't find anyone to take care of their 7-month-old son because the few people they knew were afraid that he might have the virus, too. So, she took the baby to the hospital with her. The baby seems to have gotten the virus while he was in the hospital and was dead within a day.
In the morning, I'm going to SeaTac for some union treasurer training. It starts at 9:30 am and is scheduled to go until 4:00 pm. In the past, it's ended early, so hopefully, it'll end early this time, too. I'll bring my tablet, but I don't know if I'll be able to check in at all. We'll see.

Well, I'm at the theater. I never had a chance to check in to HHW while at the union treasurer training. It was very informative and even though I've gone to it before, I feel like I not so much learned some new stuff, but realized that some things are not as difficult as I had remembered them to be. That's a good thing. :)
I always thought that Mary Kay Place should have had a bigger career. I have loved her in everything I have seen her in, but especially THE BIG CHILL.

It's been a crazy day. Had to replace the works inside one of the toilet tanks. Don't know what happened there. But those parts are too flimsy. I have to replace one or the other every year it seems -- and it's not like they get a lot of work. Maybe it's the hard water locking them up. Who knows.

The high was only in the 60's, but it was sunny.

Glad the show wrapped up on a great note, George.
The reading went really well - I really fixed act two I must say - it's still a bit long - must take out at least five minutes. There's one song that was on the verge of being cut after the first read through but I kept it, wrote a little speech before it, and hoped that would clarify its intention and make it easier to "get" - well, one minute into it tonight and we all knew it had to go. So, happily I had a song waiting in the wings - a Sherman Brothers song that no one's ever heard about Christmas in LA - it's much better for that slot and is short and sweet and fun. In the very long monologue Doug wrote, which he himself read tonight, he knew it was still too long and we already both pretty much agreed on two nice lifts that will bring it down by a minute or so, which will really be helpful. I was concerned about how the end of act two would play, structure-wise - there's a very long sequence, which is monologues and a song interspersed throughout them - it's called We Look Ahead and is about the gay culture in LA from the very bad days of the 1960s right up to now - Doug did a beautiful job creating a character for the sequence, whose story we follow and Robert Yacko read it so beautifully. It's a very powerful number that ends with the full cast doing an anthem like ending. The concern was it's not the end of the show, nor can it be. But I made a really audacious choice to follow it with the Bruce Vilanch sketch and it worked like a DREAM. The sketch is VERY funny, just one nice laugh after another, and then that's followed by what really is the final song of the show, which works perfectly.
Then we went and saw two show choir performances. I've never been or seen this kind of thing and it's a really fascinating world that I'll talk about in the notes.
