Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of another replacement, and now it is time for you to post until the replacement cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BELVEDERE!
-
First post after BK!
-
At 3:22 this morning, left coast time.
-
I think that is correct. Frankly, I am so messed up on the time at home and the time on the East Coast.
-
Hopefully we have finished jumping ahead on this cruise.
-
It is almost 11:30, and i have had a cup of very strong coffee, and I have had a large mocha.
-
Together they should keep me going, but they shouldn't keep me from my afternoon snooze.
-
It is rather foggy at the moment, but it looks like the sun will break thru at any time.
-
We were promised calm seas, and that is what we had last night and this morning.
-
There is an art auction this afternoon, but I rather doubt I will attend. I haven't seen anything in the art gallery that I would want to bid on, but they may might have a few items that I haven't seen.
-
Instead, I may check out Name That Tune, Broadway! Or I will just curl up in a deck chair with a good book on my Kindle.
-
But first, I should search out some
grub fine cuisine.
-
Or, at least a burger.
-
It is now afternoon and I still haven't eaten anything. Nothing sounded very good this morning. Maybe some fruit!
-
Good morning, all.
On this fine DAY OFF. :)
-
Not that I have nothing to do today.
Because I have plenty to do today. Lots to catch up on and get done.
-
But it's all good stuff. Or at least not horrible stuff.
Then tomorrow, it's back to the trombone show.
-
good morning to all
-
DR CHAS SMITH color copies will be fine and dandy.....thank you.
DR VIXMOM - I especially like the ENCORES Playbills with pictures of the actual Historical Person and BIOS with the actors' information....most excellent.....
-
We are really getting the political ads on TV now.....why doesn't anyone tell Ted Cruz what he looks like? And talk to John Kasich about whatever is going on with his dentures?
-
Good morning, all! Did I sleep late.
-
DR TCB, you are now in the England-Ireland time zone. Wave to my friends as you pass Dublin!
-
BK, what awful news about the cast member! I hope you can replace him (her?) today.
-
I'm not going to City Center, unless I hear from Joshie. I'll do some serious work on this Appalachian requiem.
-
DR Elmore -- is the requiem something you're actually composing?
-
Last night I had a way too log dream about the Miami University Library and my collection. I have a serious problem with the finding aid and I am not sure how to handle it.
-
I especially like the ENCORES Playbills with pictures of the actual Historical Person and BIOS with the actors' information....most excellent.....
I loved that they did that.
-
DR Elmore -- is the requiem something you're actually composing?
Partly, but it's all based on Appalachian folksongs and hymns. Several items in the piece are set and some are still in flux, determined by what I can find. The hardest part is finding something funny about death.
The layout is something like this:
1. Lonesome Valley - Chorus
2. The Unquiet Grave - Solo, Chorus
3. Something funny?
4. Murder ballad? - Solo and chorus
5. Poor Wayfarin’ Stranger - Solo, Chorus
Other options:
I am a Poor pilgrim of Sorrow
Conversation with Death
Kingdom Come
Amazing Grace
If I can't find something funny, I may take the text for "Conversation with Death" and write my own melody. I don't much like the ones I have, but i like the text.
-
More coffee! And food!!!!!!

What a wonderful idea. Original and fascinating.

Just paid a couple of ugly bills.
Oh yeah, they was ugly. Trust me.
-
Since my fixed income is about $200 less than my monthly bills, they're all ugly!
-
DR Elmore, where do you get your caps like the one in your avatar?
Alby Potts wears something like that when he's playing. Hey, maybe that could be my Ask BK.
I need one but have no idea where to look and know they're of halfway decent quality.

I purchased a couple in a men's shop in the Towne Mall in Middletown, OH. the shop is now dead or I would have purchased a new one last October.

-
It's the Wool Blend Newsboy Cap.
-
Nice stuff, all of that. Thank you, sir!
-
Too bad about the Middletown shop. I could have gone there on the eleventh of May!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Casting vibes for BK.
-
Elmore, is there an Appalachian take on Go Tell Aunt Rhody?
-
Listening to Sondheim at the Movies while working. Nice work, BK and Elmore.

Of the Landed Gentry.

Elmore, is there an Appalachian take on Go Tell Aunt Rhody?
I had never thought about dead geese. I was hoping for something funny about dead people. i wish there were something like "Massa's in the cold cold ground."
-
Listening to Sondheim at the Movies while working. Nice work, BK and Elmore.
Thank you! I wish I felt the same. I think that album is my least favorite of all I worked on for BK. Outside of "Back In Business," I think my work is not as good as it should have been. I cannot put my finger on what bothers me, but the cast is good, BK did fine, but . . .
-
Larry - Does it need to be a public domain song?
-
We were promised calm seas, and that is what we had last night and this morning.
☺
-
Finding aid vibes for DR elmore!
I'miss not sure I worded that correctly but you know what I mean, at least I hope you do.
-
Larry - Does it need to be a public domain song?
Yes. I'm looking for an Appalachian folksong.
-
Yes, I'm thinking I may use the photos/paintings in my BIO slides for the 1776 cast......
-
I just read all the reviews for "Tuck Everlasting." I didn't care much about seeing it, but I want to see the final ballet which got most of the praise from every critic.

Excuse me while I look for my magnifying glass!

I had never thought about dead geese. I was hoping for something funny about dead people. i wish there were something like "Massa's in the cold cold ground."
I just read all the reviews for "Tuck Everlasting." I didn't care much about seeing it, but I want to see the final ballet which got most of the praise from every critic.
I'm reading The Great American Whatever by Tim Federle, who wrote the Tuck book. It's not my favorite of his works. But it's okay.
-
DR TCB, you are now in the England-Ireland time zone. Wave to my friends as you pass Dublin!
I believe that will be late Friday or early on Saturday.
-
I am very sad to inform you all that actress Madeleine Sherwood (http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/madeleine-sherwood-star-of-tennessee-williams-classics-on-stage-and-screen-dies-at-93/ar-BBseIba?li=BBnb7Kz) has died.
My favorite film performances by her were "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" (as Paul Newman's greedy, fertile sister-in-law) and her brief, but very vivid and memorable performance in "Resurrection" as one of the people Ellen Burstyn's character heals.
-
Just paid a couple of ugly bills.
Oh yeah, they was ugly. Trust me.
One of my credit card payments is a day late. I am sick about it, but it is my own fault. I meant to post it the day I left on the trip. Damn it!
-
We are almost ready to turn the page.
-
Perhaps Ron would like the honor.
-

My only criticism is that Gary Beach is a little too florid for my tastes.

Natalie Babbitt wrote "Tuck Everlasting." I was given the book for my 30th birthday, a year after it was published. Or did he do-write the libretto with Claudia Shear?

He co-wrote the libretto.

It is 4:30 in the afternoon, and as far as I know, Ken is still in bed. I called him at 1:00 and he was sleeping. He said he planned to go back to sleep when I got through with the conversation.
-
Perhaps I shall return to my cabin for a bit of meditation.
-
"XXX is a little too florid for my tastes" would be a wonderful title for a book
-
"The Flamingo is a little too Florida for my tastes" would also be a great title for something.
-
Perhaps I shall return to my cabin for a bit of meditation.
I read that as "medication"...twice.
-
It's difficult to imagine TCB being 8 hours ahead of PDT.
Of course, I spent much of my Navy career in time zones 9 hours ahead of West Coast time. But at that time, I had no internet with which to keep in touch with folks.
And then I had family and friends who could not grasp the time difference (usually 6 hours vice 9) and would call me in the wee hours of my mornings.
Oh, well. I never turned a single caller away or made them feel they were interrupting my sleep. In almost each call, they would "get" that it was only 3 a.m. where I was. By then, however, we'd have said as much as we needed to say.

Wednesday afternoon greetings! Richard's GI procedures are complete with clear reports on both. We are home, he's had a sandwich, and is watching War Games.
-
DR Jane I did not go out to dinner yesterday. I did go out on the weekend (my niece had swim team yesterday and really didn't want to miss it).

That's great news, Ginny!
-
I think I've replaced the actor - Dennis Kyle - but Dennis had once agreed to do Li'l Abner, showed up for the first rehearsal and told me it was too difficult to get there. So, he's coming today and we'll see how that goes - he jumped at it, I must say, so that was good, and he's very talented. He just played Lumierre in Beauty and the Beast at one of the big musical houses here. But I'm going to have someone else in my back pocket just in case.
-
Good news from DR GINNY!!!
Good news about the actor and the actor in the back pocket.
-
My old OLD friend saw Madeleine Sherwood as Abigail Williams in THE CRUCIBLE in 1953, and she was so good at being evil and mean that he didn't like her in anything else she ever did.
He said her face was demonic.....
You can sort of see it in this photo....

Great news.
-
Met Madeline Sherwood once in upstate New York. She was very nice but her handler should have been dismissed. It was a retreat. Not something exclusive or hoity-toity.
-
Anything rated XXX is almost always too florid for my credulous simplicities, Ron. I think that runs more towards Elmore's video collection.
-
Goddam! I wish I were not so technically challenged. The DVD player is on but nothing's playing. I don't know if it's damaged, I've connected the cable incorrectly, or if i'm missed doing something. I hate it.
Shit.
-
Good news about the replacement, BK! I hope he works out.

Thanks to DRs George, JRand, John G, Jane, and FJL for the nice comments about Richard. We've both napped this afternoon.

Okay, you left coast, you right coast, and you in-betweeners better get busy. You can't expect all us mid-Atlantic people to do all of the work.

Larry, did you say that you got a multi-region Blu-ray player, or is it just a region-code free DVD player? I have a multi-region Blu-ray player and on mine, the DVDs from different regions automatically play without resetting the region. To play Blu-ray discs from different regions (A, B, or C), however, I have to hit certain buttons on the remote to set the specific region. Is that the same for your player? Maybe the player is set for the wrong region and you just need to change it.
Just a thought.
-
I spoke to Joshie and he suggested I replace the cables: the yellow and white look exactly the same. That did provoke the DVD screen on the TV to light up for a second, but nothing plays. Most frustrating.

DR George, yes, that is the same as my region-free blu-ray. The question is, if a US Blu-Ray is Region A, what the hell do you hit for a non blu-ray region 1 or 2 DVD?

On mine, I don't need to do anything for DVDs. It's automatic. It's only Blu-rays that I need to enter the code with the remote. :-\

Then mine should have played at once, so i am completely flummoxed and need to wait for Joshie to decide when the time is good for him to pay me a visit.

I may spend some time tonight with the instructions which always seem to need a translation back to Japanese or whatever and then retranslated into English by someone with a fair for the language. I figure at this point i can't hurt anything.

Good evening!
-
Elmore, I was going to ask why you were up so late, but it is only late for me.
-
It is 11:00 p.m. here, but George is still at work
-
I did go to Karaoke tonight. It always makes me feel better about my own singing.
-

It's 6:00 in Manhattan.
-
That seems so strange.

I think I have probably milked this time change business for all the possible posts. But that won't stop me from using more. A post is a post.
-
A post is a post.

DR TCB, how long do you get to stay in Copenhagen?

DR TCB, how long do you get to stay in Copenhagen?
Just two days, Sunday and Monday. We fly home Tuesday afternoon.
-
We will probably be off the ship by 10:00 on Sunday, so we will have a full day.
-
Congrats to DH Richard! Now enjoy a good meal!
-
DR Jane I did not go out to dinner yesterday. I did go out on the weekend (my niece had swim team yesterday and really didn't want to miss it).
Watching your niece compete sounds like a fun birthday to me.
She didn't have a meet just regular practice. And I didn't go. :)
The muscle on my right top back/neck has been bothering me a lot the past 2 days. So i was just in bed.
-
Congrats to DH Richard! Now enjoy a good meal!
Thanks, DR ChasSmith!
He wanted a cheeseburger right afterward and we just had homemade chicken pie for dinner. And leftover Jello...
-
It is practically midnight for Sponge Bob and me, so let's get off this page before I go to bed.
-
It shouldn't take too much effort.
-
If we all work together.
-
Just one more post.
-
Five!
-
We did it!
-
HA!
-
HA?
-
It is 11:00 p.m. here, but George is still at work
Why, yes I am...unfortunately.
;)
-
I did go to Karaoke tonight. It always makes me feel better about my own singing.
What did you sing?
-
Now George, you know you love your job.
-
I sang "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime" and then I sang "Piano Man" as a duet with Roslyn.
-
I wanted to sing "That's Life" but another guy beat me to it.
-
I would have sung "New York, New York," but I was in need of my pain medication, so I had to stop.
-

Just two days, Sunday and Monday. We fly home Tuesday afternoon.
Are you on the ship or in a hotel?
-
We will probably be off the ship by 10:00 on Sunday, so we will have a full day.
That answered my question.
-
I've noticed a few cruises where the last stop includes a couple of days on the ship.
-

We are in a hotel.
-
DR TCB who is Roslyn?
I apologize if you have mentioned her before and I missed it.
-
I would like to stay on the ship for, at least, one more night.
-
DR TCB who is Roslyn?
I apologize if you have mentioned her before and I missed it.
No, I haven't mentioned her before.
-
She is someone that Ken met onboard.
-
Jane and Ginny have vanished!
-
And George is probably doing work.
-
But 6 Guests have joined us.
-
Hello, 6 Guests, what are your names?
-
You really should join are merry group.
-
All except that 1 Guest, who is not welcome to join.
-
Hello, Kevin!
-
Hi, TCB!
-
Glad you're enjoying your cruise!

Belated Happy Birthday greetings to DR Jeanne! Sorry I missed you yesterday.
-
Glad you're enjoying your cruise!
I will hate to see it end. Like you at a Streisand concert.
-
TCB-- do you have complimentary internet on the ship?
-

That's a good one!

I think you mean Jennifer.
-
TCB-- do you have complimentary internet on the ship?
No, I paid thru the nose for unlimited internet.
-
Glad you're enjoying your cruise!
I will hate to see it end. Like you at a Streisand concert.
When you said Roslyn, I thought of her, too.

All but 1 Guest has departed.
-

No, I paid thru the nose for unlimited internet.
I was too cheap to pay for it on the cruise I took, but it was only about 4 days.

Well, it is one o'clock in the morning.
-
I started reading a new book on my commute today.
-

No, I paid thru the nose for unlimited internet.
I was too cheap to pay for it on the cruise I took, but it was only about 4 days.
I figure that some people pay three times what I paid, just for their bar bill.

That's probably true! I didn't even buy the soda package since I prefer iced tea, and that was included.
-
I started reading a new book on my commute today.
What book?
-
Oh, it was a nutty book. The guy said that someday machinery would take the place of every profession.
-
Actually it's THE book.
-
With the soda package, Norwegian makes you use this plastic mug which they pack with ice and will only fill from the gun - no cans.
-
THE book? You mean the Bible?
-
No, the book that's been discussed on this here site a lot recently.
-
That's one thing you'll never have to worry about, my dear!
Is that even close?
-
No, the book that's been discussed on this here site a lot recently.
Ohhhhh! That book. And?
-
That's one thing you'll never have to worry about, my dear!
Is that even close?
I think that's the exact quote from the movie, yes!
-
Of course I'm reading PBP!
-
Page 7? The author will be so happy!
-
You thought I missed your reference, didn't you?
-
PBP?
-
BK's latest!
-
You thought I missed your reference, didn't you?
Well, I wasn't sure!
-
TCB-- do you have complimentary internet on the ship?
No, I paid thru the nose for unlimited internet.
I was too cheap to pay for it on the cruise I took, but it was only about 4 days.
I figure that some people pay three times what I paid, just for their bar bill.
Good point. I've noticed there are booking packages that offer free perks, one being free internet or x number of minutes free. Since our holiday cruise was all inclusive, except for excursions, bingo, and gambling, the internet was also included.
-
Jane and Ginny have vanished!
No, I was just on another tab playing with the online scheduler for the American Library Association conference we'll be attending in Orlando in June.
-
BK's latest!
Oh, duh. I was trying to figure peanut butter something.

That's probably true! I didn't even buy the soda package since I prefer iced tea, and that was included.
I think if a person is drinking enough soda to pay for the soda package they are drinking too much soda.
-
I'm also cleaning the oven. Well, keeping an eye on it as it self-cleans...

Charging for the Internet is ridiculous in this day and age. I may go back to Princess Cruises. I think I have enough sea days to qualify for free internet.
-
I've learned there is now a bar package as well. Since I like the a better quality of liqueur than on the package, and don't drink that much wine, this won't work for me. If I could pay the difference between what is offered on the package and what I want, then it might be worth it. That isn't an option.

Now I know what you are reading :)

They may also be offering it as an incentive. I suppose these things might also depend on the travel agent you use.

If you use one.
-
During Richard's procedures today, I started reading Lee Smith's Dimestore - A Memoir in Stories.
DR Elmore, I think you would like the Appalachia nostalgia...
-
Glad to hear DH Richard's tests went well, DR Ginny!
-
Thanks, DR KevinH!
-
Oooo...a frenzy! BK will be happy!
;D
-
And George is probably doing work.
Still. ::)
-
Glad you're enjoying your cruise!
I will hate to see it end. Like you at a Streisand concert.
When you said Roslyn, I thought of her, too.
That was Kind of you.
Good thing there's no groaning allowed!

Norwegian's bar package is $79.00 a day per person and it must be purchased by everyone in the same cabin and all those traveling together. For a 14 day cruise, you figure the price.
-
I was so happy to read that a cast recording of She Loves Me is coming. I'm really looking forward to it.

That doesn't sound fair to the non-drinker in the cabin, if there is one!

I think they would be hard-pressed to enforce that one.

Okay, you kept me posting an extra hour. I should have been asleep by now
-
I am off to bed.
Good night!
-
Good night, TCB! Nice chatting with you!

I added it to my amazon wish list.

Because everyone traveling together drinks at the same level ::)

That's utterly ridiculous! And why everyone in the same cabin or "all those traveling together"?? That's extortion!
-
I'm sure they do it to avoid sharing. Still, it is unreasonable.

I'm reading the ARC (advance reader copy) that I got at ALA in Boston and will send it to you when I'm finished.

The raspberry loquat pie is in the oven. My boss's birthday is tomorrow. And yes, I can be a suck-up.
-
Watching a very old Japanese movie from Yasujiro Ozu called "There Was a Father." Excellent, heartbreaking story of a single father who wants what's best for his son but who might be making all the wrong decisions.
-
Belated Happy Birthday greetings to DR Jennifer!
Thanks.
-
Good evening.
-
$79 per day for liquor??????
-
How much are individual drinks?
-
Glad to hear Fr. Richard is feeling well tonight.
-
Hello!
-
Good grief, didn't realize I haven't posted in a month until I just looked
-
Has anyone seen the movie Elvis and Nixon? I really want to see it. Hopefully it will be here soon
-
Hate to post quick and run, but I must.....Smooth sailing to TCB!!!
-
How much are individual drinks?
My thoughts exactly. Bet you can't get a good deal on a bottle of wine at those prices.
-
Good to see you back, Cillaliz. Don't wait so long next time.
-
Working on one's resume is still no fun. And I'm still not finished. Oh, well. Another day.
-
Good night, all.
-
Got back about forty-five minutes ago and ate a salad from the Gelson's salad bar with super low-cal Eyetalian dressing - very good. Dennis Kyle was late by forty-five minutes with no phone calls and I was already trying to book another actor, but he showed up. learned stuff, and is fitting right in - his car is in the shop and he's coming from Fullerton - hopefully his car will be out shortly. Anyway, he seems committed.
-
I did a lot of detail work on act one - first time I've actually directed the sketches and as soon as people began to understand the rhythms they instantly got better and funnier.
-

I would be surprised if a good bottle of wine is included and not just discounted.

Looking forward to hearing dear reader Kevin's thoughts on you know what.
