I've always believed that "luck is preparation meeting opportunity".
So, why is it that so many young show business wannabes I've met in recent years think that they can skip the preparation part?
Yesterday, I counseled a recent film school graduate who wanted to direct movies, yet this person had never heard of Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock, Ernst Lubitch, William Wyler, nor had she seen CITIZEN KANE, THE MALTESE FALCON and Clark Gale was "that guy with a mustache".
What do they teach in film school these days?
I want to be a brain surgeon, so just give me a knife. Why do I need to go to medical school?

Continued rehearsal vibes for MR BK & Co.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I'm a bit down today and it took me a long debate with myself to get myself out of bed and in motion..
-
Then I neede to answer an email from a good friend, which led to my spending time on Amazon looking at reviews.for things.
-
So, here I am. i need to call my pharmacy and refill my meds and git the market today. I may spend some time playing with the DVD player.
-
I think I've settled on the sequence for the Appalachian piece:
1. Lonesome Valley - Chorus
2. The Unquiet Grave - Solo, Chorus
3. Conversation with Death - Solo
4. On the Banks of That Lonely River - Chorus
5. I Am a Poor Wayfarin’ Stranger - Solo, Chorus
I'd like to spend a part of Saturday at the Lincoln Center Library, checking out their folk music collection before I freeze this.

-
Good Morning!
-
I had some dreams this morning....several, in fact, over a short span of time.
I awoke at 4:59 a.m. I was still very sleepy despite the fact that I had retired at 9 p.m.
I lay back down and began dreaming. I kept looking at computer screens and my mind was actively searching for time hacks on each screen
Invariably, there would be one for 7:46 a.m. which I though must be an HHW.com post with east coast time.
Then there was a 5:46 a.m. time hack which I took to be Mountain Time.
I rolled onto my back and closed my eyes once again. Again, it was 7:46 a.m. on some computer screen.
I got up and saw that it was 5:29 a.m. "my" time. I stayed up and made a cup of coffee.
It never pays to "push" the snooze button for me.
-
I done started Page 2.
Whoo-ee.
-
Why does this Thursday "feel like" a Friday?
-
I'm up, I'm up - maybe seven hours, maybe six. And my throat is a bit sore, which I really don't need and which I hope goes away very soon.
-
Good morning, all.

A fun one.

Thursday morning greetings! After yesterday morning's excitement, Richard and I are easing into today. We sat at our breakfast table and watched the tree guys perform their version of Cirque du Soleil. Some of it, I couldn't watch...

I want to add DR ELMORE and DR JOHN G's choices to my TOD......
And:
Valley of the Dolls
-
And the word of the day is: AMANUENSIS!
I saw that on Broadway with Tim Curry.
-
Back from a haircut - and I decided to get an omelet and a bagel, since I'll have no time to eat until after eight and I don't really WANT to eat after eight.
-
I have some City center time tomorrow. Joshie may come by to look at this DVD player. He think it may be the new cable and since I know nothing, I'm letting him handle it.
-
And the word of the day is: AMANUENSIS!
Ftatateeta!
(The word of the day always makes me think of Her First Roman.)
-
DR JOHN G - watch your phraseology!

DR JOHN G - watch your phraseology!
Ha!

Trying to decide whether I should write a little missive or not.
-
Good
morning afternoon.
-
Saw the Drama Desk nominations. Very strange. Nothing for Tuck Everlasting. A few for Lazarus, but not for David Bowie's score. Shuffle Along, yes; but not for Audra or any of the cast.
-
In addition to the many TOD titles listed, I must add:
The Bad and the Beautiful
Two Weeks in Another Town (albeit it's about "location" filming in Rome)
Inside Daisy Clover
Saving Mr. Banks
Blazing Saddles (sort of)
Under the Rainbow
-
You guessed it, ladies and gentlemen: another morning performance for the area schools. The last one, thank the ye gods.
These kids got quite het up at the Marian and Charlie Cowell scene. I can't see the stage. Did he take her by force? You'd think so from the audience response.
And in the footbridge scene, I do believe our man Hill must have ripped Marian's bodice right then and there, judging by the hooting and hollering.
-
Congrats to BK on the replacement actor.
-
Congrats to BK on the replacement actor.
And may the replacement actor be filled with ardor in the delivery of his role.
-
I'm not quite ready to celebrate having the replacement actor yet - he has not been communicating despite my asking him to do so - so if he shows up on time today we should be fine - if not, he will rue the day, oh, yes, he will rue the day.
-
I HATE that in an actor or musician or just about anybody.
It's a huge red warning sign, however good the person is otherwise.
-
Let's move on.
-
Three!
-
Trying to decide whether I should write a little missive or not.
Did you get my last email?
-
I remembered what Joshie thinks my DVD situation requires: an analog=HDTV converter.
-
I remembered what Joshie thinks my DVD situation requires: an analog=HDTV converter.
Ahh...that's something to consider.
-
Barely starting page three at 8:20 p.m. would be shocking, but at 3:20 p.m. EDT and 12:20 p.m. PDT, I guess it is okay.
-
Last night's frenzy was a great deal of fun. It reminded me of the good old days when late night chat was all the rage at HHW!
-
And it was great to have Cilla present last evening.
-

That's a very big grin, DR George.
-
Four years ago today, I hauled out my vinyl copy of Eubie! as I started work on a rather lengthy paper about Shuffle Along. And the new version opens tonight in New York.
-
DR TCB, where are you today?
I believe the Captain said that we passed Normandy this evening and tomorrow morning we will be passing the white cliffs of Dover.
-
Three years ago, we stopped in Dover on this cruise, so I have actually seen the
gray white cliffs of Dover.
-
Elmore, I am sorry that there was delay in answering you, but I was taking a short nap.
-
Tomorrow is really the last carefree day at sea. Saturday is full of last minute items like packing and printing hotel confirmations and boarding passes.
I hate packing!
-
Hello, 1 Guest! What is your favorite cookie?
-
There was a rumor going around the ship today that it was snowing in Copenhagen.
-
Hello, 1 Guest! What is your favorite cookie?
I don't know about the guest, but I usually like the one in front of me best. :)
-
According to the Internet, on Sunday it will be cloudy with a temperature of 52 degrees.

Does anybody else remember what they were doing 54 years ago today? I was Junior Bridesmaid in my sister's wedding:

And I wore nylons for the first time.

And I wore nylons for the first time.
Well, you've got me beat.

Ginny, what year did you meet Elmore?
-
We must get going on these posts.
-
We need to turn the page.
-
One more post.

Four!

Four!
Do you have both socks off, Tom, or just the one for this page?
-
And I wore nylons for the first time.
Well, you've got me beat.
:D
-
Ginny, what year did you meet Elmore?
It was late 1973, I think. I'd moved here to start working at the local Miami University library in the fall of 1973 and he was one of our "community patrons."
-
Elmore, I am sorry that there was delay in answering you, but I was taking a short nap.
You do non't need to apologize. You're on vacation! Enjoy it.

It was late 1973, I think. I'd moved here to start working at the local Miami University library in the fall of 1973 and he was one of our "community patrons."
But we really bonded when we were in a truly awful production of Auntie Mame in the spring of 1975.

I did not get to market so there's next to nothing in the place for dinner. I guess it will be grilled cheese or peanut butter.

Beyond awful.
-
I thought Joshie or Eric Dietz was coming by to check this analogy-digital quandary, so if i need to purchase something, I can. Unfortunately, neither showed; there was no guarantee since Joshie is tied up with Encores! and Eric is playing on the Bright Star baseball team this afternoon. And so I didn't get out of the house just in case one of them showed up.
-
Very chilly today.

Four!
Do you hvvave both socks off, Tom, or just the one for this page?
It was tough.

At least we survived the fire...

Good afternoon. I spent the morning doing my every-other-day hike up the mountain. It was unusually cool the last couple days, which I am very happy about. Last week it was almost 100 degrees.

Here's the BRIGHT STAR baseball team. Mt friend Eric is standing, fiftyh from the left. My friend Stephen Bogardus is second from left.

No offense to Stephen, I just can't tell with the baseball cap.

Well, 1 Guest, it's you and me again, kid.

I just found out that tomorrow night we move our clocks ahead one more hour.

I suppose I should get ready for bed.

It is after midnight.

Sleep well, Tom!

Good evening!

Sorry I missed TCB!
-
BK: I am enjoying Patrick Bronstein Presents very much!
-
Page 5!
-
Enjoying a quiet evening at home watching this and that. Haven't had one of these in a while.
By the bye, whoever said this has felt like a Friday all day ... I agree.
-
Just watched Act One of ACT ONE on my DVR, and the last ten minutes of BYE BYE BIRDIE on TCM.
I'm thinking maybe just some music next.

DR TCB, where are you today?
I believe the Captain said that we passed Normandy this evening and tomorrow morning we will be passing the white cliffs of Dover.
I hope you get to see them.
-
From what I have been told the best view is from above them, so try to go to the top of the ship when you pass.

I'm not sure I have a favorite cookie.
I like peanut butter cookies, oatmeal, ginger, almond macaroons, to name a few.
I really miss Pogens which I used to buy but were discontinued years ago.

Be back later.

I interviewed Stephen a lifetime ago when he was staring in a touring production of Chess with Carolee Carmelo. It was coming to Proctor's Theater in Schenectady.

Tomorrow I'm going to be home all day watching a live webinar. I'm glad because Callie hasn't been well and I'm hoping having me home will help.
-
She was fine, but had some bad teeth and had to have surgery. Her recover started well, but went down hill fast. She completely stopped eating. It's triggered her old problems and yesterday I had to take her in to the vet for an enema. She still isn't eating and is pretty weak. I think she's slowly perking up tonight, but I've been seriously worried about it.
-
Dear reader Kevin, glad to hear it and hope you'll write an Amazon review.
-
Back from a very long day. Kritzerland rehearsal went very well - one of our gals was sick so she'll come in early on Saturday.
-
We were missing all our shared actors today, but still got a lot done with the choreographer, and I worked on sketches. I made one actor change in a sketch and that's enormously helpful, actually. And the new actor was a bit late but there and doing everything he needed to do - he'll have a couple more difficult travel days then he'll have his car back and it will all get much easier for him.
-
I am thrilled that I figured out how to hook my computer up to my tv so I can sit in my recliner and watch the webinar. I had planned to drive to Des Moines for it. I haven't seen a lot of those people for a long time, but I'm doing it this way so I'm here for Cal. One of the speakers is Dean Strange, one of the lawyers from Making a Murderer. I know Jerry Buting, the other defense lawyer and may have met Dean, but I don't know for sure. Guess I won't be able to ask him that now
-
April has been insane for so many reasons. Mostly just every think I'm involved in had events in the same month, I had to rewrite a couple appeal briefs and do the regular stuff. I didn't do much sitting at home.
-
I did start Weight Watchers again. I want to lose 50 pounds. I could stand to lose more than that, but I'd be thrilled with 50. I'm at 4 in my first week....long way to go

Congratulations on your progress so far, Cillaliz. The beginning of any program like that can be a pain.
Thanks. I've done it successfully a long time ago, so I have the tools, but you're right getting started is a pain

Good night, all.
Good night John

Happy Birthday Eve to The Vixter

54 minutes ago I was leaving the venue where we saw a very good Kansas concert.
-
Oh, I used to love Kansas. Haven't thought of them in years. sounds like you had fun
-
The opening act was Edgar Winter. He and his band p,aged for an hour it was a great set also
-
It was really good and we were sitting 10th row aisle dead center great seats
-
Time to go sit with Callie for a while and get some sleep. The Webinar starts at 8:00 AM. Heck, I could watch it in my jammies if I wanted to. I'm liking this idea more all the time
-
And to think I was going to spend a total of 6 1/2 hours in the car tomorrow. Much better
-
And since the average age of the audience was between 55 - 70. We were all content to sit in our seats rocking in time and singing along. No mad jumping up and down. So everyone could see the stage.
-
Definite it sounds like the webinar is a wine in Colla
-
It definitely sounds like the webinar is a win win Cilla

Stooooooooooooooopid iPad

Well since I was up at 5 and at work by 6:30..... Good night all

This afternoon we met up with a friend and went to a lilac farm about 30 minutes from us. Having bloomed early this year the lilacs were almost done. The trees were magnificent so we were happy.
