We had our reception there  almost 29 years ago but they have expanded the venue and even added a hotel since then. it us no longer the quaint English hunting club style but it was lovely and elegant

My meal was filet mignon served medium rare, tender and perfect with a lovel wine sauce, a few asparagus spears, a carrot, some mushrooms and tiny roasted tomatoes and a wedge of of delicate hash browns.  I wish I had my camera for my description does not adequately describe the dish or the lovely presentation

The other meal choices were chicken breast, salmon, sea bass (very popular at mt table) and a vegetarian, gluten free dish of which I cannot remember the name

The cocktail hour was huge there was one table with all Italian ant pasta items including a fresh mozzarella that was being stretched and double and cut to order...a seafood table with shrink, scallops, mussels, crablegs, a pasta table with rigatoni in a pink sauce  and I g forget the other items....
Title: Re: THE EMOTIONAL NOTES
Post by: vixmom on May 22, 2016, 04:25:27 AM
Knowing there would be an excellent meal to follow I restricted my self to a couple of steamed dumplings, one  scallop and one shrimp (they also had the fried versions of each) also a  Couple of small pancakes of Peking duck from the Asian food table and a couple of small pieces a flank steak from the carving table oh a a quiche from the passed trays.  They also had tiny glasses of tomato soup with a tiny piece of grilled cheddar cheese sandwich as a garnish. That was good too

Besides a slice of wedding cake (alight  lemon cake with a chocolate chip cannoli cream filling) I had crime brûlée and a waffle wedge with fresh piped whipped cream and fresh strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.  Ther had to be at least 50 other choices...but I was too full by then to indulge.

There was also a aperitif bar with a large selection... I did have a drop of kalhua in a dark chocolate cup... Vixdad passed on the offered cigars

I got some needed dleep last night, ad I hope there are no problems tonight. I had several weird dreams, ut i only remember the last one which included a band rehearsal for "Dr. Crippen" in which the band parts did not agree on number of bars. It was a shambles. I remember that I was being wheeled around on a platform to do some filmed commentary.

A Viennese hour is where they have a selection of desserts and aperitifs. For the desserts they had at least 30 different types of cakes, cannoli so, crime bruises, brownies, napoleons,  cream puffs, eclaires, chocolate pudding, jellies, rice pudding, ice cream, tiramisu, fresh fruit, a chocolate fountain, two or three types of ice cream and all the toppings you can imagine, waffles with fresh piped whipped cream and fresh fruit, and I know I am forgetting tons of things

Crime bruises? When people get mugged afterwards in the parking lot? Or maybe some of the guests fighting over the last of the desserts.

We've already been contacted by one theater who had a show fall through, but I'm not raising money for the show, and that's what would have to happen.  But she called because the buzz from the folks who've seen it has been so incredible.  I know what would be optimal and we're meeting about it this week.  Send excellent vibes and xylophones about that.  But when every show is pretty much sold out, something that never happens these days at LACC, that's really saying something.  I already miss the show and especially the entire company including the tech folks.

The food was amazing wth a huge cocktail hour to start and Viennese hour to finish

I know what a cocktail hour is, but what is a Viennese hour?

A Viennese hour is where they have a selection of desserts and aperitifs. For the desserts they had at least 30 different types of cakes, cannoli so, crime bruises, brownies, napoleons,  cream puffs, eclaires, chocolate pudding, jellies, rice pudding, ice cream, tiramisu, fresh fruit, a chocolate fountain, two or three types of ice cream and all the toppings you can imagine, waffles with fresh piped whipped cream and fresh fruit, and I know I am forgetting tons of things

Oh my goodness!  That sounds incredible!  AND incredibly expensive!

The Long Island economy is alive and well. Several new car dealers just reported an uptick in sales. Customers came in talking about this big wedding they've been catering and how they're treating themselves to a new car. One couple said they need a vacation to recuperate from all their hard work. The wedding venue reported plans for yet another expansion. The tux rental place wasn't so happy. "Bunch of cheapskates!"

Today was our second annual day of service at church.... I was in charge of the clothing drive my team and I sorted and bagged 45 large trash size bags of clothes

Were these JRand's?

The person running that activity shared this story:

A woman came over wheeling a shopping cart with five bags filled to the brimmed with canned goods she said I only came in for butter... Took her lb of butter and lefts the rest for the food drive!!

So Vixmom isn't the only one eating well this weekend.

Vibes for "Act II" of LA NOW AND THEN.

Were you thinking about a theater about the same size as LACC's? It's less than 99 isn't it?

Glad to hear you'll be directing more shows there, Bruce.

I learned at the last minute that Richard's neighbor wanted to attend. Richard's been walking her dog because she's recovering from knee surgery. When he told her where he was going, she said she wanted to come, too. Richard said she can't really walk around on it yet, though. So, maybe next time. She's the daughter of John Payne and Olivia de Havilland.

Just to clarify... They did NOT have "crime bruises". They did have creme brûlée  (which in my opinion was the better choice)

I think chocolate fountains are fairly common. They flow with chocolate and you can dip strawberries or fruit in them. yummy.

A chocolate fountain? I don't think I've ever heard of one. Is that a fountain made of chocolate or a fountain flowing with chocolate?

John G, where are you?

It is a fountain running with melted chocolate.  The have fondu sticks and cut up fruit, angel food cake , marshmallows etc and you put you choice a fondue stick no stick it in the fountain to chocolate coat your treat

What's really nice about it is that the person who had applied for the restorations/reconstructions then asked me to edit because he wants to learn from me.  I like mentoring, and i would have done it for nothing, but the payments a nice bonus.

Starting to watch Macbeth. The beginning is wonderful and different. It features Lord and Lady at the funeral of their child with Banquo and his son watching as are the three witches. Then we switch to a battle scene in slow-motion, while the witches and the Macbeths' child watch. Very brutal.

Two years ago a childhood friend of Keith's had a bone marrow transplant.  Today the friend and his family went to Poland to meet the donor, and his family, in person.  They had an emotional meeting at the airport.

After a quick stop to settle into the hotel, our friend and his family went to the donors house were they were served awesome appetizers (that they thought was their dinner), then an AMAZING home made dinner, followed by and a  cake with our friend's picture on it.  For the grand finale... they had a firework show in front of their house.

All that after saving the guys life-nice people :)

Crime bruises? When people get mugged afterwards in the parking lot? Or maybe some of the guests fighting over the last of the desserts.

Well, Michael Fassbinder and Marion Cotillard are fine Macbeths and the visual staging is interesting, if somewhat Hollywoodish (cathedrals lit with hundreds of candles on all kinds of nonsensical levels far above the actors' heads  and not part of chandeliers). But the pacing of this movie is deadly slow.

Failed for all the usual reasons, but you'd never know that thanks to a room filled with nothing but friends and family, although I was at my usual front table with the parents of the performer and all three front tables just applauded as they should, unlike the rest of the tables with their cheerleading and woo-hooing relentlessly.
