DR JRand65, Tatiana Troyanos' career began as a nun in the chorus of nuns in the original cast of The Sound of Music. Those butch broads in 1960 had big operatic voices.  Now the dumbass directors cast chirpy little Broadway chorus girl sopranos and altos.

Here's The Mystery of the Signed Books.  Whenever I see third-party sellers on Amazon selling any of my books for three dollars (hardcover) or thereabouts I purchase them as it's much cheaper than ordering a new copy from the publisher - normally they're always in excellent condition.  But of late every single book I buy (mostly the two memoirs) is coming signed by me.  Usually it's my typical "Enjoy!" which means I didn't know them and they either bought it online from me personally or at a signing.  Now, the only places I did signings were NY and LA for this book.  So, I wonder why anyone would pay full price for a book, get that book signed, and then sell it for a dollar, which is what they're getting for it if a dealer is selling it for three.

I thought Tatiana was the STAR of the WSS documentary.  She was a lot of fun.

She was a wonderful actress. Her early opera career was in Germany, where she became a star in the premiere of Penderecki's opera THE DEVILS OF LOUDUN playing the hunchbacked, repressed prioress Jeanne des Anges.

I didn't know there was video of that, DR Elmore.

I have the original LP box set (same performance, apparently), which I probably listened to all of once back in the...1970s?  So I just took it out as a reminder to listen to sometime soon, and here's something funny -- the back cover of the liner notes/libretto book is detached, and the front cover is missing altogether.  This is really odd, because that kind of thing simply can't have happened under my watch.  And I'm just about 100% certain I would have bought the thing new and sealed at Phil Harris or some such store back in the day.  Bizarre.

I want that video, but I ain't payin' those Amazon Marketplace prices for it.

A couple years ago, a friend of mine who is very bright but doesn't always review his bank statements carefully had a similar experience. In his case, there was a charge to a water utility in the Midwest. He lives in California. They'd been billing him incorrectly for several years. I was so appalled that this could happen that I called my bank. According to them it can happen quite easily. It could be the result of an honest mistake or it could be fraud. Your only defense is to CHECK YOUR STATEMENTS REGULARLY.

Media check:

I tried THE SYNDICATE last night, a British series about a lottery win. Bleh. Don't know if I'll watch any more of it.

Netflix now has PERSON OF INTEREST on streaming. I liked the first two seasons, so I'm giving them another pass. Netflix is going through another period of being very slow on many new releases. They clearly don't wish to be in the DVD business any longer. My respect for the company has greatly diminished.

First Daughter Suite is also supposed to be available, but I haven't had time to listen to it yet.

I have THE FIRST LADY SUITE, so I probably should get that, also.

I like some La Chuisa, especially Giant.

I REALLY like GIANT.

My nephew graduated today. He won several awards and will be headed off to the University of Kentucky this fall on a full-ride scholarship. He'll be studying music education as well as performance. I hope he continues with his French horn work. I think he could excel in an orchestra. Would love to hear him try some Mahler.

Congrats to your nephew!

Thank you. He's a good kid. I guess I'll see him in July when I go visit the family.

Not anymore.  The show ended.  Everyone visited for a bit.  I had to lock up the theater.  I then drove a friend home, and now I'm home.

I auditioned for a show singing THUNDERBALL.

My friend Margo, in the early 1990s, was talked into auditioning for a local production of SHOW BOAT, and didn't really know what to sing.  She ended up singing "Happy Birthday" and was cast as Parthy. :D

The charming hotel we booked did not have a room for us.  They moved us to an uncharming hotel, into an ugly room, with a very uncomfortable bed.  The rooms here are reminiscent to the communist-era rooms we have stayed in.

That's terrible!  I hope you get a refund!

Thanks.  Noisy troom, for Keith, they might move us into a quieter, not as nice, room later today.  It is very unsettling.  Kind of distracts from our romantic anniversary trip.  On the upside, Krakow is beautiful.  This hotel business has cut into our time to enjoy it.
