Good morning, all.

Too early on the Saturday of a three day holiday weekend.

But I'm accompanying some people in a few songs in a "presentation" this afternoon and must be off my arse and leaving in a couple of hours.

Tomorrow is our annual Open House at the theatre.  The director has decided we will do a full rehearsal.....usually when I do the opening show, we just do a number every 20 minutes or so....so the entire cast doesn't have to attend.

And it is race day....so who knows how many people will be around?

Time will tell.

This is a work day.  I think I'll hold off on the laundry till Monday, but i need to tidy and vacuum. Then I have one of three projects on my desk:
  1.  the Moross score final edit
  2.  a look over the two Provencal Carol arrangements that my friend Peter is working on
  3. that Appalachian requiem

GUYS & DOLLS now waits for the next word from Music Theatre International.

There are flying birds everywhere and they will fly right in front of your face.  We are sitting in the lovely park here while Keith smokes a cigar.  A bird just crapped on a man sitting on a bench across from us.  Keith was then reminded of the bird that crapped on his shoulder this morning.  He wasn't laughing then but he is now.

Lucky for Keith, but not fast enough, I had an antibacterial wipe in my pocket :)

TOD:

The Wizard of Oz
Babes on Broadway
I Could Go On Singing

I think I liked watching her movies before they were available every day on DVD or on the movie channels.  Seeing a LOT of Judy Garland in a short space of time is almost TOO much.  I like her best on occasional viewings.

I have her television show on DVD and I watch an episode now and then....they are also being shown every Monday night on GET Tv....although there it is edited to get in more commercials.

Exactly. I detest her when she gets all manic.  I want to prop her in the corner till the drugs wear off.

I like her in these:
WIZARD OF OZ
MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS
THE PIRATE ("He asked for me.")
Half of A STAR IN BORN (too damned long!)

I just finished viewing BEHIND THE RISING SUN on TCM.

It's an anti-Japanese propaganda movie, made in 1943.  I wanted to see it because it was directed by my late publicity client, Edward Dmytryk, and it starred Tom Neal, one of the principal characters in my play, B MOVIE.

I certainly don't want to get into a political debate here, but while watching the movie, I couldn't help but wonder if it was a coincidence that TCM scheduled this film at the same time as our President's controversial visit to Japan.

 ???

Oh, one more thing.  The TOD.

I'm going to throw in A CHILD IS WAITING just because no one else has.  In spite of the fact that I haven't seen it since early 1963 when it had just been released.  I don't remember a thing about it, but a Blu-ray has either just been released or will be in the near future, and I always look forward to returning to that type of movie from that type of year; i.e., the early sixties.

Back from a Chinese chicken salad.  As I was leaving one of my usual waitresses at Jerry's was doing a check and realized the party that had just left had given her a one-dollar tip on a sixty-dollar check - a group who probably were so stupid they couldn't add or thought they were leaving a ten instead of a one.  I felt bad for her so I gave her the difference.

Saturday evening greetings!  It's been a lovely family-filled day here on Poinciana Road.  I picked my sister up at their hotel at 11:30, stopped at Kroger for lunch stuff, and got home in time for the arrival of DN Laurel, her ever-lovin' husband Jim, and 13-month old J-Dub.  He entertained us for a couple of hours and then they left to attend a graduation party.  My sister and I picked up her daughter at the hotel and the 3 of us visited Mom.  When we left there I called Richard to put the lasagna in the oven and DN Laura called Olive Garden to order salad and breadsticks.  She picked up her dad at the hotel, the food at OG, and we all gathered back here for dinner.  Rob and Mary Linda are here, too, of course.  Sister's fam left about half an hour ago and I'm exhausted.

Tomorrow we'll gather here again for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.  Our grandmother always said she knew her kids and grandkids would either be at the race or listening to the broadcast and we won't let her down this year.

Well done bk

Savion Glover was amazing. There really is no other word for it. His dancing is inspired, and in an evening devoted to percussion, he turned his feet into an instrument that stood its own against Jack DeJohnette's drumming.

Plus, there was such joy in him as he danced that he had the entire audience beaming.

I managed to sneak a visit to one of the Half Price Books in town. It was kind of sad to see so many wonderful Broadway discs in the bargain bins, including several from BK and Elmore. But I did manage to find the Jay recording of Kiss Me, Kate, which I didn't have, for $1.

I agree with Jane and vixmon that Bruce should see a GI specialist. I don't know how Medicare works, but with my HMO, I have to see my primary care physician first and then she refers me to the specialist.

Funny, I thought I had removed the fact I agreed after Keith said that it might scare Bruce. ;D

Scare Bruce into what? - into getting proper medical care, proper medication, and feeling better? What's so scary about that? ;-)

;D

That it is cancer.  It could be a hernia or an ulcer, or just reflux ;)

Who said anything about cancer?? But now that you mention it, chronic reflux that goes untreated can turn into Barrett's  esophagus which can lead to cancer of the esophagus. So, if we can scare Bruce into seeing a doctor before things get worse, then that would be a good thing. ;-)
