Title: TRUTH IN ADVERTISING
Post by: bk on June 02, 2016, 12:09:37 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes told the truth and had some advertising, and now it is time for you to post until the truthful cows come home.

The Topic of the Day reminds me of this movie description:  "Transported to a surreal landscape, a young girl kills the first person she meets and then teams up with three strangers to kill again."  It is, of course, "The Wizard of Oz."  When I just did a search to find that quote, one of the links was this website that describes other movies in similar ways:

John Scalzi – An Experiment in Accurate But Misleading Movie Descriptions (http://www.amc.com/talk/2010/11/john-scalzi-a-3)

Almost 4,000 comment posts to the Times (which the article pointed out) sounds like a lot, but spread over eight or nine years, it's averaging just a little over one a day.  And I think while I was basically "at home" for a period when the economy was really bad, there could be quite a few in a single day.

The feline contingent was very kind in letting me sleep in a little bit this morning, which felt damned good even the last hour or so (well, it sure seemed like a damned hour) was dominated by a silly dream about The Fantasticks in which I had to discover -- or reassemble, actually, since the last person hadn't documented it -- the correct color scheme for each song, and pack the set miniatures up into a large mailing envelope or small box for easy carrying...

Oy!

Coffee!

Today, some work on the keyboard, and I really need to take advantage of the clear dry weather which is supposed to take a downturn tomorrow and cut the grass at some point.

Tonight, I attend the high school's annual spring jazz thingy called "Footpath Cafe" or some such.  It's always enjoyable, and, for my taste, showcases the best playing and singing heard all year.

I have an event with some Irish friends to attend tonight. Niall O'Sullivan played trumpet with the Orchestra of Ireland on my three Dublin recordings, and one of the other players is Vinny Lynch, our rehearsal pianist.

Here's something that bothered me this morning: on CBS THIS MORNING, they interviewed a country singer, Kip Moore, who's working with skateboarding kids.  The scroll under the interview said, "Roll Model," not "Role Model."

Is he the Pillsbury Doughboy stand-in?

Am taking an unexpected day off tomorrow to take my car in for an annual "everything".

My mechanic is SO very popular it's increasingly rare you can get your car in and back in one day.  He has promised me that tomorrow is the ideal day for it. I made an offer to rent a car while I left my car with him for however many days it would take, but he said it wasn't necessary.

Back from the table reading of a musical - saw some chums.  Sadly it was pretty terrible, which pains me since it's by Richard Sherman and Milt Larsen.  They've been playing with this for years - it's problems are very basic and with some work and focus it might be fun to play with.  I'll be having lunch with them to tell them my thoughts.  They were taking comments from the audience of six but I had to leave.

WJR's studios were (and I guess still are) in "The Golden Tower of the Fisher Building."  The Fisher Theatre, in the lobby, became the Broadway touring house in the early 1960s.  Often the morning drive-time DJ, J. P. McCarthy, would interview someone from the cast of the current show and play selections from the cast recording.

Oh, TCB, I'm glad your new table will be a traditional coffee table instead of the trendier cocktail table. Some things should just stay as they are.

I'd never heard of a "cocktail table" before TCB mentioned it.  But then, I've never been "with it" or trendy in any way.

Home from the American Irish Historical Society.  The concert was quite enjoyable.  I have to get to bed. I am being interviewed at 9:40 for a Penn State podcast. I hope I sound informed.

Well, it's time for me to leave work and go home.  Tonight, I've got to be at a paper tech for the next show that TAO is doing, "The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged)."  Again, I'm running sound.

Until later.

For years I have been wanting to visit Barcelona.   We should have made this trip back then.  We did not realize there is a problem with over population from tourist.  We don't like loud noisy cities.

I had the same reaction to Rome after a week in the country.

I shall shortly be off for the opening night of Little Women....I hope our audience enjoys the show....and I hope the ensemble is quieter backstage than they have been....  One is more likely than the other....

Saw a lovely double rainbow tonight after the early evening thunderstorm. (To differentiate it from the early afternoon, the late afternoon and the late evening thunderstorms we have had or are expecting, of course.)

Starting to watch Black Mass. Don't know that I can watch all of it tonight. I guess it depends on the thunderstorm. It also depends on how much of the violence I can stomach. Five minutes into it and there's already plenty.

What is First Daughter Suite?

Michael John LaChuisa's latest musical. It's a supposed fantasia about former first daughters, including Julie Nixon, Amy Carter, Laura Bush and Susan Ford. The first moms get in on the musical action, too.

Because he was paid a lot of money.
