Well, you've read the notes, the notes were on toast, and now it is time for you to post until the toasted cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: TOCSIN!
-
First post after BK!
-
good morning to all
-
Good morning, all! This is the morning of my hip injection, so I want to leave here around 8:30. i have no idea how bad the traffic to Fifth Avenue and 50th Street will be.
-
I am a bit apprehensive about the procedure, but we'll see how it goes.
-
Last night was the first episode of MAJOR CRIMES on TNT. They've moved it to 10:00 and that pisses me off.
-
Bed made, trash taken to basement, and I'm pondering breakfast.
-
My friend Peter Foley is coming by this afternoon to look at some orchestrations I've done for him and to see what fixes I have to give him on the Provencal Carols he's been helping me with. It should be a fun visit.
-
I need to call Joshie and see how last night's event went. I want to know that his orchestrations got lots of nice comments from one and all.
-
Injection vibes for DR ELMORE.
Great photos from DR JOHN G yesterday - congrats to the happy couple!
Yes DR TCB - we want to see photos of the new furniture. Where did the recliner end up?
-
And as I suspected, the rehearsal last night confirmed that working with this particular man as Norman is going to be tedious......he stands still when he is supposed to move, and moves when he is supposed to stand still.....and he is convinced he has to "act" old......
OY!
-
Don't we already have a cast recording of this show?

Great illustration and Collier's cover!

TOD: An amateur magician (who was a lot better than he ever let on) put a quarter in my open palm. I closed my hand, and somehow he made the quarter appear in the table underneath my hand. It was as if the quarter went through my hand. I realize it doesn't sound like much, but I was astounded. It was my hand, and he didn't do anything and yet the quarter was not in my hand but (for lack of a better explanation) fell through it. And it was a glass topped coffee table, so you could see nothing happened underneath the table. I still can't figure it out.
-
TOD:
I enjoy magic. In fact, when I was a kid, I spent all my spare money at Gene Fowley's Magic Shop in Seattle for magic tricks.
-
Tuesday morning greetings! I woke up way too early with many things on my mind.
-
DR Elmore, I hope your procedure goes smoothly this morning and helps a lot!
-
DR ELMORE WISHING YOU GOOD VIBES THE INJECTION HELPS YOUR HIP!
-
DR TCB, I only stopped in last night to say goodnight and then immediately fell asleep. For the first time, in a long time, basically slept all night. I woke up at 6:00, then dozed again until 6:40.
-
Good morning, all.
-
We are very excited about the next five evenings in nearby Hamilton:
Ohio Chautauqua (http://www.ohiohumanities.org/ohio-chautauqua/hamilton-2016/)
We have traveled all over the state in previous years for this. Now it's in our very own county!
-
Craziest night EVER, with one dream at three in the morning that had me sitting straight up like Jimmy Stewart in VERTIGO. I got up, visited the necessary, and walked around for a couple of minutes just to make damned sure I wouldn't fall back into that dream.
Which worked. But throughout the rest of the night and morning (I slept in a little later than my usual), I still managed to create one astounding world after another. Each was fascinating. And I could no more write them out, even for my own satisfaction, than fly to the moon. A bizarre night.
-
I didn't know there was an Ohio Chautauqua.
I also just learned how to actually spell the name. Holy cow.
Anyway, that sounds great, DR Ginny. Enjoy!
-
I am off to replenish my supply of coffee, and I'm going to bring home a few everything bagels and cream cheese along with it.
-
Ohio Chautauqua is put on by the Ohio Humanities Council. We haven't been since 2010 when we went to it in Ashland right after being with DR Elmore in Canton for the weekend.
-
DR Jane, you will be glad to know that I've just made plans for us to have dinner with former DR Jason in Orlando a week from Monday.
-
Ashland was one of the least visited but most important Ohio towns in my youth. My favorite of three great-aunts and her husband had made that their home in the 1950s and they first had a small farm outside of town. She later had a wonderful house right in the heart of town, just off their main street, which I remember as being a very nice small-town downtown. It was a magical place for me to visit. No one remains there now (except, sadly, in the cemeteries), but I took a drive through it a few years ago and loved every moment of it.
-
(I started typing Chautauqua by leaving out the first "u", and it went downhill from there.)
(But it's easy, once you know it's two "au"'s and a "ua".)
(Oy!) :)
-
Sorry for Ashland digression. Now, on to the bagels!
-
DR Jane, you will be glad to know that I've just made plans for us to have dinner with former DR Jason in Orlando a week from Monday.
Very glad and I know he needed cheering up.
-
Sorry for Ashland digression. Now, on to the bagels!
I enjoyed your Ashland digression. We found the town quite charming. I met there with a Chautauqua performer who was willing to mentor me in preparing a portrayal of Ohio author Dawn Powell. I never followed through with that because several weeks after that visit I had a heart attack and now I'm older than Dawn was when she died.
-
I still have some time of the Ashland goodies you sent me.
-
Oops, wait, I just did the math and determined that I'm not older than Dawn Powell was when she died - I have a few years to go!
-
Good Morning, All.
-
All of this morning, a tune has been running through my brain.
-
That tune is:
C'est si bon
Lovers say that in France
When they thrill to romance
It means that it's so good
C'est si bon
So I say to you
Like the French people do
Because it's oh so good
Every word, every sigh, every kiss, dear,
Leads to only one thought
And the thought is this, dear!
C'est si bon
Nothing else can replace
Just your slyest embrace
And if you only would be my own for the rest my days
I will whisper this phrase
My darling, my darling...
C'est si bon!
-
I don't KNOW why...
-
Good morning, all.
-
Pourquoi pas, Ron?
-
Ginny, Dawn Powell is one of my favorites. A Time to Be Born and My Home Is Far Away are among my all-time top novels.
-
Good morning.
-
And I am home. I like the doctor a lot. he kept me talking while the procedure was accomplished. there was some pain but ut was not nearly as bad as I feared. I think this will help. We'll see.
-
DR TCB, I'm still waiting for a photo of you riding your chair.
-
Ginny, Dawn Powell is one of my favorites. A Time to Be Born and My Home Is Far Away are among my all-time top novels.
My book group loved My Home Is Far Away when I made them read it several years ago. I haven't read the other - I'll look for it!

That must be why it is on my Goodreads wish list. The library doesn't have it.

Sounds like fun.....DR GINNY.....the Chautauqua that is!
-
I first remember magicians on television....especially Mark Wilson and Nani Darnell.
-
Nice thunderstorm here now....cooling things down.

Old photo of Ashland, Oregon
"Ashland’s Chautauqua dome, rebuilt and remodeled twice since its creation in 1893, sits prominently at the end of Lithia Park in 1928. Today, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Elizabethan Theatre occupies that same site."
(http://www.opb.org/images/upload/c_limit,g_center,h_1000,q_90,w_640/Ashland_dome_km7vpl.jpg)
-
"In the 1800’s, America’s Chautauqua movement was gaining popularity across the country as a campaign of adult education, featuring lecturers, musicians, preachers and entertainers. Nationally, many Chautauquas took place under canvas tents. Ashland was one of the few towns that constructed a building to house these fashionable events.
Constructed in 1893 in just 10 days, Ashland’s Chautauqua dome held 1,000 people. Rebuilt and remodeled twice since its construction, the dome was dismantled in 1933. Two years later, on the site of the building’s ruins, the First Annual Shakespearean Festival was presented in the tradition of the open theaters of Shakespeare’s time. This stage evolved into the current Elizabethan Theatre, built on that same site in 1959 to seat 1,200 people."
-
I don't think I have any particular incidents that stand out, but I do really enjoy magicians and I'm always fooled by them.
I heard about that show but never saw it. I can understand other magicians being upset about that being put on the air, but I will happily watch some episodes, as I have no personal stake in it and I won't give away any secrets. I even imagine I'll "get" some of the tricks, then fall for them again, in amazement, next time someone else does them. So, no one loses.

BK, that's pretty darned cool that you were able to get the actual magazine for your illustration. Every once in a while, "Antiques Roadshow" will have someone with a magazine illustration and a copy of the magazine that it was featured on. That sometimes increases the value of the original illustration. Not by much, and not always. But it's just neat to have the actual cover. :)
-
I didn't know there was an Ohio Chautauqua.
I also just learned how to actually spell the name. Holy cow.
Anyway, that sounds great, DR Ginny. Enjoy!
I've never heard of "Chautauqua" at all. :-\
-
I have most of the covers or magazines or books that I have art for.
-
I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep, I think.

I'm not surprised. I don't believe I had until we moved to Ashland.

Elvis Presley played a Chautauqua advance man in his movie THE TROUBLE WITH GIRLS.....
-
Hmmm, I wonder if I knew what he did ;D
-
I think we here at HHW could organize a great traveling Chautauqua about any and all subjects!!!
Movies, tv, theatre, recordings, directing, library science, ballroom dancing, acting, real estate, orchestrating, photography, dogs, and now magic....
There is NOTHING you cannot learn about here on HHW - The Chautauqua Of the Internet!
-
I made a copy of the Hamiltony Awards for my friend Vickie who plays ETHEL in On Golden Pond.
She has DISH Network....and Sunday night....lost CBS....
Miss Vickie is unhappy with DISH and will be changing her provider this week.
-
I doubt that any 1920's Advance Man dressed as Elvis did in TTWG.

I forty-five minutes we will be finessing mixes. So, I must get ready and then be on my way to the engineer's home.

Unfortunately, we could also do a panel discussion on dealing with aging/aged parents...
I am dealing with yet another of those issues I'd rather not have to face :'(
-
I bet not DR JANE!! LOL.
Yes DR GINNY....another subject to touch on.....
-
Finessing vibes for MR BK. I guess he didn't see my link about the new recording....
-
Heading off to block Act ONE Scene Two of On Golden Pond....in the rain.

~~~Vibes of Comfort and Coping!!~~~
-
Hello, everyone.
-
continued MEGA VIBES to TCB's friend Sandy!
-
Vibes, too, to our E&T Dan M.
Has anyone heard from him?
-
I enjoyed your photos, DR John G. You're looking quite distinguished.
-
Coping vibes to DR Ginny.
I don't have any siblings and was VERY grateful for that while taking care of my relatives. It all fell on me, but at least I didn't have to deal with THAT stress.
-
Good evening!
-
And I am home. I like the doctor a lot. he kept me talking while the procedure was accomplished. there was some pain but ut was not nearly as bad as I feared. I think this will help. We'll see.
Good news! I'm really pleased that it's over and you don't have to worry about it. IMO, the worry is often the worst part. I hope it gives you considerable relief.
-
Another beautiful day in the DC area. Tomorrow, though, rain is forecast and of course the humidity will be back for the rest of week.
-
Good news, DR elmore!
-
DR Chas, all those "a"s and "u"s! Most troublesome!
-
The drama here is that our thieves once again broke into our mailboxes. Did I tell you? Maybe. In any case, it's a real pain in the behind. One neighbor says he can do everything he needs to do electronically. I do what I can that way, but that's not 100%. We need our mail!
-
Congrats to John G on his promotion!
A shame though the best weather is on a weekday.
-
Well, I must be going. Tonight (actually, in about a half hour), the Washington Center for the Performing Arts is going to have their annual volunteer appreciation night! There'll be door prizes and raffles and other assorted things, and food! So, I don't want to be late, so I'm off.
Be back later!
-
DR Jane, you will be glad to know that I've just made plans for us to have dinner with former DR Jason in Orlando a week from Monday.
Very glad and I know he needed cheering up.
Sounds like a hug from Mickey Mouse cheered him a little :)
I will take your two compared to what my sister was like any day. She made the Macbeth's look good.
Bummer. Great show. I think it'll have a good life in regional theaters, but it should have been a hit.
;D
Happy anniversary?
-
I'm on episode three of Cop Rock (there were 11 in all). It was an interesting experiment. It doesn't really work, but the original songs are occasionally effective. And so is the choreography. And I like the overriding story of a somewhat crooked cop who's being investigated for shooting a cop killer.
-
LOL, I posted it on FB and knew no one would know what to say. I don't even think about that time anymore and wouldn't even remember if it hadn't happened on flag day
-
But I know I'm happier than I would have been if I was still married to him :)
-
Fun day finessing mixes. The stuff sounds much better than it has any right to, and I'm very pleased with it overall. It's got a real "live" presence to it that I really like. More in the notes. Then I went and had food, picked up a couple of small packages and am now home.
-
I am so happy. My former assistant the most wonderful Brittney is coming back as a full fledged legal assistant She is going to be starting almost immediately
Prayers and vibes for Ginny
Jon you look very dapper in white tie.
Congratulations on the promotion
As the episodes progress, it's apparent that the folks behind Cop Rock got a better handle on what they wanted as the show went on. I'm on episode six now, which actually worked well. The humor, the music, the tension, the satire all seemed to serve a purpose, and they were handled imaginatively. But I guess people had lost interest by that point, however.
-
Hi, TCB. Hi, Jane.
-
Five!
-
Congratulations on the promotion
DITTO!
-
I need to get to bed.
-
Congratulations on the promotion
DITTO!
Grazie.
-
Today was a strange day.
-
And good night.
-
Good night, John.
-
I was more bothered by Orlando today, than I was yesterday.
-
So, I didn't even look for the camera today.
-
Tomorrow is another day (fiddle-de-dee)
-
Nicky loves the new chair.
-
At least, when I am sitting in it.
-
Finished with my viewing and am about to listen to a new Kritzerland project.
-
DR Elmore, I hope the injection does some good.
-
DR Ginny, I am so sorry for what you are going through with your mother.
-
At least, when I am sitting in it.
:)
-
On Sunday, my sister and her husband will celebrate her birthday for her; Father's Day for him; and their wedding anniversary for them.
-
Actually, it is the anniversary of the second time they got married.
-
If they had stayed married, in September they would be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
-
No Guests to harass tonight.
-
But there are two guests exploring other areas of the site.
-
Our weather is supposed to turn nice for the weekend, and even nicer on Monday for the first day of summer.
-
I'm gonna harass someone pretty damn soon, like all the errant and truant.
-
Don't look at me!
-
George is still at his volunteer appreciation event?
-
I am trying to remember when I was really stunned by a magician.
-
I would say probably the first time I saw Siegfried and Roy in Vegas.
-
This was before they were headliners on their own.
-
This was when they were part of "Hallelujah Hollywood" at the MGM Grand in 1974 or 75.
-
One more post.
-
SIX
-
I had hoped to hear from Sandy tonight about his test results, but I have heard nothing.
-
Today is the 25th anniversary of my divorce. As I left the courthouse the flags were flying!
Happy Divorsary, Cillaliz!
Hi, Tom.
-
Hi, George.
-
Did you win anything?
-
On Sunday, my sister and her husband will celebrate her birthday for her; Father's Day for him; and their wedding anniversary for them.
Congrats to both of them!
-
Did you win anything?
I did! They had raffle tickets and you got to pick your prize. My ticket was picked about halfway through, and the thing I liked enough to pick was a ceramic robot vase (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ARRTQR8/).
When I got home, I figured that I had better balance my checkbook. It had been WAY too long since the last time. It actually took me about an hour and a half, but it's all balanced...finally.
-
Then, I bought a pair of Birkenstocks on Amazon...the ones that I have now are very old and are falling apart.
