Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a Copland Opening, and now it is time for you to post until the Copland Cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ORTHOGRAPHY!
-
First post after BK!
-
I was about to post this yesterday, but the day was locked, so here is my post from last night:
I never received anything about the e-book settlement.
Is that because I bought all my e-books from Amazon?
I thought my coworker told me that Amazon e-books are part of the class action lawsuit, but you should've gotten an e-mail about it and responded to be included. I've purchased many Kindle titles, myself but I don't remember getting an e-mail about it either, so maybe that's not correct.
-
First post after George, after BK!
-
I'm taking today off from work. We're taking my aunt and uncle up to Seattle for the day. We're going to Pike Place Market and the Space Needle at the Seattle Center. We may go to the pier. I don't know where else we might go, but we'll be up there all day.
-
And now, to bed. 8)
Have a good day, everyone!
-
I should really be in bed, but I have Hanson upload fever. So, while I'm importing - one more CD to go - I've listened to Symphony No. 1 "Nordic" and am now into his masterpiece, Symphony No. 2 "Romantic." These are the Mercury Hanson Conducts Hanson CDs, and there are none finer. The sound is amazing and no one conducted Hanson better than Hanson even though some will tell you otherwise. However there are a few symphonies he didn't record for Mercury, so for those there are other choices, but the ones I have are Gerard Schwartz conducting - he really championed Hanson in the 80s and their quite nice - one wishes we had Hanson conducting, but these at least present the music simply and well if without Hanson's passion.
-
Now, for those who don't think they have a clew about Hanson, my guess is at least a few of you have heard a portion of the Romantic because Ridley Scott used it for the end titles of Alien, much to Jerry Goldsmith's chagrin. And then others of you will, if you have keen ears, realize that Mr. Stephen Spielberg most obviously temp-tracked the final ten or so minutes of ET with the final movement, and Mr. John Williams basically used that as his inspiration and guide. I once played it with the end of the film and it synchs up very well.
-
First after BK, TCB, George and BK!
-
Another bad night of sleep: I keep getting charley horses and have to get up to massage my legs or stretch them. I was thinking that my legs were getting cold, but now I suspect it's a physical need for more potassium. We'll see.
-
I have to go to Music Theatre International again this morning to pick up photocopies of the full scores for Guys & Dolls. I rhought they were being shipped to me, but . . .
It will be nice to see everyone I know there.
-
The Appalachian casting continues . . .
-
BK, have you heard Deems Taylor's "Through the Looking Glass" Suite? I think you might like it.
-
Good morning to all
-
Good morning, all.
-
I slept the sleep of a Benadryl taker, and boy did I need it. Yesterday was HELL, and there's nothing like a good Benadryl sleep to cure that. We'll see what today offers, but I'm sure it's more of the same.
-
This is truly making me want to listen to some 20th century American music. Well, I could damn well do that later, after getting some necessary errands done this morning.
-
I can totally understand getting one's fill of Copland in a given time. Nothing against the man's music, but that makes sense to me.
-
I LOVE THOSE MERCURYS.
And you know what? These never go into retrograde. Not once. Not ever. A certain misbehaved planet could take a lesson from these fine recordings. (Hah. Fine recordings. Anyone know what I did there?)
-
One of my favorite Gershwin recordings is Hanson conducting with Eugene List at the piano: Concerto in F, Rhapsody in Blue, Cuban Overture. On MERCURY, of course. This recording entered my life at age ten, same year as Porgy and Bess.

Sounds like a nice visit in the making, DR Elmore. As does this entire project.
-
Have I mentioned that I have to go over to the Comcast Xfinity store and exchange my modem/router for a better working one? Well, I do, and that's going to get taken care of this morning. It's always such an ordeal, getting these up and running. Pray for Rosemary's Baby.
-
And that's about all I got for a while. 90+ degree Wednesday vibes to all!
-
Heading out to MTI. Sooner there, sooner back.
-
Rainy Wednesday here.......
-
Heaven!
-
Every bus connection worked this morning, and I made the entire round trip in just under an hour. I am amazed.
-
We watched an interesting, albeit disturbing, movie last night; EYE IN THE SKY with Helen Mirren and, in his final film, Alan Rickman.
Very well done. It certainly makes you think.
-
I'm up, I'm up, and there are no tree people here, and if they suddenly show up at nine rather than eight I shan't be happy as I could have used the extra hour of sleep and gotten seven rather than six hours.
-
Two.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Rolling blackout at 4 am prompted the sleep machine to cut out and wake me up. Glad I did because I had to reset the alarm clock.
-
Tree people part one have arrived and are waiting for tree people part two - then they'll begin and I asked them to please begin in the yard before doing anything to the front.
-
And so I suppose I'm up.
-
And will continue with my Hanson listening for now.
-
I wonder if they put the Hanson does Gershwin on CD - I bought all the Mercury CDs so I'll have to check.
-
Tree work continues - pool man will not be able to do anything today, that is clear so I'll ask if he can please come back tomorrow or Friday, otherwise the pool and hot tub won't be usable until NEXT Wednesday.
-
Got through the first three Hanson symphonies, all of which sound amazing under Mr. Hanson's direction and Mercury's amazing recordings. Then we get to Symphony 4, 5, 6, and 7, all of which are the Gerard Schwartz recordings - and the sound is the kind I just don't respond to - distant and washy with none of the detail of the Mercury and so they are less compelling and certainly Mr. Hanson would have made a better interpreter but it's nice to have the complete symphonies to hear. Mr. Hanson did record some of the later things for Mercury but in mono, which is why, I assume, those haven't been released on CD - too bad, as I'm sure they're quite good.
-
After yesterday's discussion, I decided to explore using some Aaron Copeland music for my scene changes and act openings.....I found some very nice things.....and I will see tonight if they work.....

Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
Wednesday afternoon greetings!
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
I took Richard this morning for his appointment with the ophthalmologist, who diagnosed a probable small stroke around the 4th cranial nerve and ordered a prism that will be applied to his right glasses lens to treat the double vision. For the first time since my theatre days, I heard the word "Fresnel" in conversation.
We then went to lunch, did a small grocery shopping, and arrived home just before the heavens opened. Richard is now sleeping off the drops that were put in his eyes.
-
Page two? Really?
-
Haven't seen a trace of the pool man, who may have just driven up, seen what's going on, and left, which means he won't be back for a week and I have to live with a filthy pool and spa for another week.
-
Vibes for RICHARD.
-
Outdoor maintenance vibes for MR BK.
-
Vibes for RICHARD.
Thanks, DR JRand!
-
Vibes for RICHARD.
Ditto!

More vibes for Richard!

Here is a picture of Ethel and Norman.

-
One of them will be lucky to survive the rehearsals......
-
More vibes for Richard!
Thanks, DR FJL!
-
Vibes for DH Richard.
-
And more vibes. How fortunate that they can give him a prism thingy for the vision.
-
ChasSmith, did you know that Half Price Books now has an online store? It's HPB.com, I think.
It's also dangerous.
-
Definitely on CD:

Woops, sorry about the large size.
-

I did not, and thanks for the heads up. I've only been in one of their stores, up around Carrollton. We so need that kind of thing around here.
-
We watched an interesting, albeit disturbing, movie last night; EYE IN THE SKY with Helen Mirren and, in his final film, Alan Rickman.
Very well done. It certainly makes you think.
We felt the same way.
-
And more vibes. How fortunate that they can give him a prism thingy for the vision.
DITTO and yes.
Is this something to be concerned about?
-
I wish I had time to browse the B & N sale so my little credit could go farther.
-
Briefly home from taking our guests sightseeing and have to deal with Electrolux regarding our refrigerator problem. They keep putting me on hold.
-
In the year we have had it they haven't been able to fix it, yet they continue to send out repair people instead of replacing it. I'm trying to find out what the person who is coming on Wednesday will be doing. We thought the frig had been turned in for a replacement and they left us a message a new repairman will be out. Of course that is all the message said.
-
This day has simply one of music and distractions, the latter all coming from the work being done, which was very noisy and messy. They're cleaning up back there - I'm assuming they don't have to come back, but the pool man not coming for a week is just bad - it's a green ol' mess. But once he cleans it and gets rid of the algae, we should have no more problems, as the fruit balls are gone and there's no shrubbery left to even have a chance falling into the pool.
-
I did do a jog, and I have to go to Gelson's soon. I had a little package of rice pilaf (you just microwave it - 400 calories) and a little ham sandwich (app. 350 calories) so my net calories after the jog are around 500. I'm thinking of a salad with vinegar for the dressing (no calories) and adding some shrimp cocktail shrimp (less than 100 calories), and then get some melon balls, too, and some raw almonds. The latter, according to what I've been reading, actually increases metabolism, despite not being that calorie friendly. So, I'll have a couple of ounces every day.
-
I know I have the Gershwin/Hanson CD - the question is, will I ever find it. There are only two Gershwin CDs that I can actually see, so the rest are buried somewhere.
-
I'm ready to tackle "A Bushel and a Peck."
-
Replacement modem/router up and running fine, thank the gods and goddesses.
-
Vibes for DH Richard.
Thank you, DR John G!
-
And more vibes. How fortunate that they can give him a prism thingy for the vision.
Thanks, DR ChasSmith - we'll see about the prism. The doctor says the double vision usually clears itself, but it can take several months.
-
And more vibes. How fortunate that they can give him a prism thingy for the vision.
DITTO and yes.
Is this something to be concerned about?
Thanks, DR Jane.
Well, we'd rather it hadn't happened at all, but the doctor was pretty calm about it.
-
Good on the second part.
-
Page THREE? REALLY?
-
What the HELL is going on here? Certainly no one is listening to their new 2-CD set and writing Amazon reviews, that we know, so why are we an page three at eleven damn o'clock on the East Coast.
-
Hello, 1 guest!
-
What's your name?
-
What's your favorite jackfruit recipe?
-
I'm cooking up jackfruit for the first time.
-
It's odd. It has a slightly rancid aroma.
-
Yet I like the taste.
-
It's supposed to be the food that helps fight starvation in Southeast Asia, because each tree can grow hundreds of fruit, which are anywhere from 10 to about 100 pounds each.
-
But it was rather difficult to deal with.
-
There are all sorts of seeds and the rough exterior is hard to peel.
-

Here's a photo of one.
-
Right now, I have two dishes of it cooking.
-
One is a vegan barbecue, because it supposedly tastes like pulled pork when cooked.
We'll see.
-
The other is to be a puree for desserts and has just sugar added to the fruit as it cooks down.
-
And that's more than you ever wanted to know about jackfruit.
-
I don't know why they're all over the markets here.
-
But jackfruit ice cream is in the future.
-
Four!
-
I don't know if I'll get the rest of City of Women watched tonight, but I hope so. I don't think I've ever seen a movie as anti-woman as this one.
-
I guess the jackfruit page cost us our 1 guest. :D
-
I didn't get the chance to celebrate the fact that today was National Fried Chicken Day, one of our greatest holidays.
-
Elmore, do you know why A Bushel and a Peck was not used in the film of Guys and Dolls? Take Back Your Mink is a fun addition, but the song just isn't as good.
-
I haven't had the chance to listen to all of Act II of L.A. Then and Now. I've played the disc twice, but I was distracted both times.
-
July 10 is National Pina Colada Day.
-
July 30 is National Cheesecake Day.
-
The things I learn when I read my email.
-
Good evening!
-
Oh dear! Page four.
-
Continued vibes to DH Richard.
-
That jackfruit is one ugly fruit.
-
No offense, John.
-
Hello, 0 Guests.
-
Hello, John.
-
Elmore, do you know why A Bushel and a Peck was not used in the film of Guys and Dolls? Take Back Your Mink is a fun addition, but the song just isn't as good.
Both songs are in the stage production.
-
Well, at least, they were both in the version we did.
-
Today was a beautiful day.
-
Blue skies and about 75 degrees.
-
Oh oh! I have driven John away.
-
Hopefully he will return in a few minutes.
-
No vixmom. No Cilla.
-
No Jeanne.
-
Our wonderful (and adorable) Seattle Seahawks' quarterback, Russell Wilson married singer Ciara today.
-
They make a lovely couple.
-
I got my potato salad today.
-
It wasn't great, but it was good salad.
-
No offense, John.
None taken.
-
I had it with a grilled meatloaf sandwich with au jus.
-
Fellini is almost over.
-
Five!
-
I can rest.
-
Good night, all.
-
Good night, John.
-
I think I will skip that Fellini film.
-
I can't remember the last time I saw a Fellini film.
-
I used to watch, and I guess enjoy, a lot of his films when I was in my twenties.
-
I should probably try and watch one again.
-
I wonder if there is any Fellini films on Netflix or Amazon?
-
I am sure there must be a channel on my Roku that would have Fellini.
-
Speaking of Roku, I meant to watch SHE LOVES ME again today.
-
I believe it is going away tomorrow, for a couple of months.
-
They are going to hopefully remove the intermission and the seven or eight minutes at the beginning of the tape while waiting for the show to start.
-
They could also do away with the eight minutes of commercials for Broadway HD that they had at the start of the broadcast.
-
I don't know why they're all over the markets here.
I tried it once.
-
CATS, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, LES MIZ, and PHANTOM. They showed the same little clips over and over again.
-
I realize that this was Broadway HD's big chance to promote their channel, but enough is enough.
-
I am very sleepy tonight. I hope the fact that I ate too much today done not keep me awake.
-
Now that I have fulfilled my potato salad craving, maybe I will make my macaroni salad this weekend.
-
Today our friends said there aren't any good Chinese restaurants left in the Valley, where they are visiting from. I belive Bruce would disagree
-
'night
-
I suppose I could do all the chopping and dicing on a TV tray.
-
Oh hell, it sounds a little tough to try and do it myself. Maybe I could get someone to help me with the preparation.
-
Considering that I can't get anyone to help me get rid of my old recliner, the chance of getting a kitchen assistant seems unlikely.
-
Good night, Jane.
-
I hope Vixmom is going to buy a Mega Millions ticket for the $500 million.
-
That should take care of her job situation.
-
Good grief. One of the neighbors thinks it is still July 4.
-
One more post to go.
-
Six
-
Time to switch over to the IPad.
-
Just heard that John McMartin has passed away.
-
Just heard that John McMartin has passed away.
Oh no! How sad.
-
Greetings, 1 Guest!
-
What is your drink of choice?
-
That does not have to be an alcoholic drink.
-
For me, my drink of choice is one half cranberry juice cocktail and one half diet Sierra Mist / or diet 7-Up.
-
So, even milk is acceptable.
-
Except, as usual, our guests never answer our questions.
-
But I keep talking to them anyway.
-
Goodbye, 1 Guest.
-
I hope George and his folks are having a good time showing the aunt and uncle around Seattle.
-
Santa Claus is no more.
-
I shaved off my beard and mustache today.
-
It seemed rather silly to go to Lost Wages in the heat of the desert in August with a full beard.
-
I realize the trip is an entire month away, but I was in the mood today.
-
'night
I went right to sleep and am already awake again ::)
-
::)'night
I went right to sleep and am already awake again
Oh, no!
-
It happens way too often.
-
DR TCB how long does it take you to grow a beard?
-
What is your drink of choice?
Water.
-
There are many other drinks I enjoy.
-
DR TCB how long does it take you to grow a beard?
A fall beard takes about a month.
-
Not too long.
-
I am going to try and go back to sleep. Our company will be up early tomorrow.
-
Or two.
-
Sleep vibes to you, Jane.
-
Thanks. Wishing the same for you.
-
Thank you.
