Well, you've read the notes, the notes were half forgotten, half remembered, and now it is time for you to post until the forgotten cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SOCKDOLAGER!
-
TCB - re the toys that come to life number in Mary Poppins - that was the best thing about the dinner theater production I saw last week - they cut it, which shaved ten minutes off act one. I hate that number.
-
First post after BK!

I wish they had cut it in tonight's production, too.
-
Actually, the 85 minutes and 55 minutes were the times listed in the program. I think tonight's performance was longer than that. I would bet the first act was, at least, 20 minutes longer.
-
Last night (actually, just about 15 minutes ago), TCB asked me, "Did your sister come over to your folks for enchiladas?"
Yes, they did. I think the enchiladas had chicken. There was some texture, but I'm not sure. ::)

I hate it when the estimated times of a show are that far off.

How did you know I was going to ask about the meat?

I wouldn't mind seeing most of those. I don't really have any desire to see BUDDY.

It always surprises me when I stop in late at night and TCB & George are still up.
And what's YOUR excuse, Jane?
-
I have not slept at all. I read the last half of my book.
-
I was answering your question while you were asking it 😁
-
Often I fall asleep only to wake up in an hour or two.

I should say goodnight again and see if I can sleep.

Sweet dreams.

I would like to see SISTER ACT and SPAMALOT. And maybe THE ADDAMS FAMILY. Hopefully I will be doing a show in the same slot as MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS.

Good night, George.

Good night, Tom.

Have a good day, all. :)

I'm going over LATE to the book sale.
The hell with 'em. Just didn't have it in me to get up early to fight for parking and have to stand in a long line.
I'll go late and it will be a nicer experience browsing what the early hordes didn't scarf up.
-
After that I'm going to hie me to a Barnes and Noble to scarf up some Criterions that have been released but so far ignored by me in the past few months.
-
And if I go to the one I think I'm going to, I shall treat myself to lunch at Shake Shack on a gift card I was given last year.
It's been WAY too long since Shake Shack and I have enjoyed each other's delightful company.
-
TOD:
French and Caesar
-
I was lucky enough to see Jack Albertson and Sam Levene in THE SUNSHINE BOYS at the Shubert in Los Angeles. Fantastic!
Years later I saw an Equity waiver production with Brian Keith and Howard Morris. Terrible.
I thought the Matthau/Burns movie was okay, but the TV version they did later with Peter Falk and Woody Allen wasn't.
I love the play.
-
TOD:
Best Caesar dressing I ever had was at a restaurant in a building across West St. (which I really still insist on calling the West Side Highway) from the twin towers. That was in the mid-1990s and I haven't had one to rival it since.
Second best was, oddly enough, at a friend's wedding reception.
I don't recall other "best of"s at restaurants, except for whatever they made the chopped salad with at the La Scala cafe (not the formal restaurant but their lunchtime place, I forget exactly what they called it) on Little Santa Monica in Beverly Hills in the late 1970s). I'd love to be able to recreate that salad.
Store bought:
Favorite thousand island is Ken's Steak House brand.
Favorite oil and vinegar: Newman's Own.
Favorite ranch: Hidden Valley.
Favorite russian (the red kind): Wish Bone.
Interesting how we come up with such favorites. I think part of it is long held associations. Nevertheless, those are what I go for every time.
-
Good morning, all! I slept in, then showered, and here I am. I'm pondering today's events beyond the Guys & Dolls work.
-
I like EYE-talian dressing - but since I'm a cretin from Indiana, I have only ever had it from a bottle......
-
DR TCB, not only is the stage version of Mary Poppins darker, but it makes no dramatic sense, and there are a lot of issues brought up that never go anywhere. I still wonder how long Mr Banks is unemployed. He isn't rehired by the bank until that loan he made makes the investor wealthy; did it take six months, six years, six days?
-
And I'm still here.
-
I only know BUDDY: THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY from the London Cast CD, which I think is terrific....the music is all hits from Buddy, so I guess it's sort of a jukebox musical....but i love the CD.
Of course, you have to find a real BUDDY or you're in trouble. And the musical says Buddy records on Decca....which is NOT TRUE....his records were all on a Decca subsidiary called Coral Records...

That poor library sale. Whatever are they doing without me?
-
But I shall get there soon. Like, within the hour.
-
Now that we've had a Tish Tash day, I wonder when we'll have a Pish Tosh one.
-
Hey, it's food for thought. And a post.
-
Of course I'm not sure I would enjoy being in an audience that is encouraged to act like participants in a rock and roll concert......
-

The Mega Millions winner was sold in Indiana....it was not me....
-
DR CHAS SMITH the book you're looking for is being handled by riffraff right now.
I know, DR Jrand65. I know. It's horrible.
I just checked the schedules. The next two Saturdays are also not-miss book sales for me, and both are a little better than this one for things I like to see. The final big one of the summer season is Labor Day weekend.
-
Okay, I'm finally off now. The next thing anyone says to me will be said to my horse's ass.
Later! :D

TOD:
I like all salad dressings except the ones that are cheese-based like blue cheese and roquefort. I also don't like vinaigrette. But I like everything else: thousand island, Russian, Italian and honey mustard, to name a few. I'm not real big on ranch, but I'd eat it if I had to. The best dressing I ever had was at a Marie Calendars. I don't know what it was - it came with a yummy salad that had pears and apples and walnuts in it. It was kind of a sweet dressing. I think I ordered the same salad at a different Marie Calendars, but it came with a different dressing and it wasn't nearly as good. And of course, I don't know what to even ask for.

SISTER ACT
THE LITTLE MERMAID
The Cabrillo Music Theater in Thousand Oaks is doing The Little Mermaid this season and we have tickets for a week from Thursday. Next season, they're doing:
Sister Act
Evita
Peter Pan
I'm really looking forward to Evita, as I've never seen it in any form. I'm also looking forward to The Little Mermaid and Sister Act. I think I could live without Peter Pan, but I've never seen that either, so I guess I should.

It must have been bittersweet for George Burns getting a great role due to losing his best friend.
-
I have a friend planning a trip to New York and is finding the price of hotels rather high. Where can he find lower priced apartments?
-
Jane, what does your friend consider a high price? I'm told the Yotel in our neighborhood which is well-located at 42nd Street and 10th Avenue often has rooms under $200 a night. Is that what they consider high for a hotel?
-
For the TOD: I'd say Caesar salad dressing; my absolute favorite was at Pietrasanta on 47th and 9th, though that's now under different management than form when we'd go there regularly.
-
And wow, page 3 before noon EST!!!
-
Saturday morning greetings! Fr. Richard is prepping for his last regularly-scheduled trip to Lima tomorrow.
-
I have a friend planning a trip to New York and is finding the price of hotels rather high. Where can he find lower priced apartments?
DR Jane, any hotel room under $200/night is reasonable, in my book. For apartments, we've used vrbo.com several times. It takes some blind faith, but we've never been burned (knock wood).
-
I'm up, I'm up - barely. Six hours of sleep.
-
Every one of these kinds of theaters do that kind of season - it's typical and of no interest to me whatsoever.
-
Thanks DR Ginny. I shall pass this along.
-
I've been listening to Dearest Enemy and copying out a violin part for one of the Appalachian pieces. Our MD Brent will put it into the new vocal score. I hope the auditions tomorrow go really well.

Ditto!
-
Why is it the original cast recording and the rental orchestration of "A Bushel and A Peck" have so little in common?
-
Back from stuff. Got everything done that needed doing.
-
I like ranch dressing. But my favorite is the ginger dressing that you get at a hibachi restaurants
-

Well, the building management won: our super and his family moved out of the building today. I am sorry to see them go.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
For a few years now I've turned to the NYT each day for the news, but with reluctance, because so much of the news has been so dismal. The events of this week have only added to that. I stopped watching television news long ago because I find it far too graphic and often without any sensitivity. I can learn all I need to know from text--and prefer that.
I can only say how saddened I am by such events.
-
After that I'm going to hie me to a Barnes and Noble to scarf up some Criterions that have been released but so far ignored by me in the past few months.
I'm looking at seven titles right now. I compared prices on Amazon and there weren't any new copies as cheap as the B&N 1/2-off prices.
-

TOD:
There was a little fish restaurant not far from my office in San Diego that I frequented. A wonderful little place. I've never liked blue cheese dressing, but one day I tried their from-scratch gorgonzola dressing. So good! I asked for the recipe and made it several times.
Follow Your Heart makes a very good Lemon-Herb dressing that I've been using for several years. I'm now trying to avoid canola oil, though, and it contains canola oil. EVERYTHING contains canola oil, it seems. Frustrated, I turned to my friend Jose, who is the owner of a Culver City eatery that I frequent, and asked what sort of oil he uses in his dressings. (All his dressings are made from scratch and are very good.) "Olive oil." "No canola oil?" "No." So I asked him to sell me some. I'm now using his utterly delicious balsamic dressing.

Well, the building management won: our super and his family moved out of the building today. I am sorry to see them go.
That's too bad, Larry.
-
While we're on the topic of food, if DR Chas "Mr Everything Bagel" Smith ever wants to go gluten-free I have a gluten-free everything bagel I can recommend. It's from Canyon Bakehouse. I'm not an everything-bagel kind of person, but gluten-free bagels aren't that easy to find and I have to say this one is very tasty.
-
My CD player has been kaput for many weeks now, but I was busy with Other Things. I was NOT born to shop. A new CD player has now been ordered. Hopefully, I'll have it next week.
-
Vibes to Larry that all goes well at the audition and you find the perfect people.
-
Good weekend vibes to all.
TTFN.

Well, the building management won: our super and his family moved out of the building today. I am sorry to see them go.
That's too bad, Larry.
The whole situation with a super has become very strange, It sounds as though there's now a super in absentia and a young handy man named Brian who comes by every day to deal with garbage, sweeping the sidewalk, etc. I have no idea how the management intends to handle a problem at 4:00am or anything of that sort. Brian is very friendly but I hope thaqt our landlord clarifies things.
Soon.
-
Super Vibes for DR ELMORE.
It sounds like The Vixter is a real Floridian. Remind her that using turn signals is optional in that state.
-
DR CHAS SMITH must be looking at a LOT of books.
-
Or waiting for a really good parking spot.
-
Well, I've been at home watching TV, but I need to shower, get dressed, and run a few errands. So, I'm off.
Until later.
-

I'm sorry. I suppose it will be fixed up to rent out at a higher rate.

I did the jog - so hot out I could only do the shorter version (a mile and a half).
-
We've been out on the front porch watching a few hot air balloons. The weather conditions are not ideal, but a few flew tonight. Maybe we'll see some tomorrow morning on our way to Lima.

I love that ginger dressing too, vixmom.
I'd suppose it's available in stores, but I've never thought to look for it.
-
So we are back from dinner where we ate no salad
-
Or salad dressing
-
My brother and SIL and mom shared a pu pu platter for three
-
Vixdad had a General Tsaos chicken and I had something that had shrimp, scallops, beef, asparagus , green beans, peppers, onions and mushrooms in a brown sauce
-
And we all shared pork fried rice and some lovely jasmine tea
-
I did spend more time there than I'd thought, DR Jrand65, but I did come away with a few nice little things.
There was a huge stack of vintage sheet music priced at $1 to $4. Some attractive stuff, but nothing that quite rang my bell, and almost no Broadway.
-
My Criterion collection got a nice facelift.
-

-
DR Vixmom, Happy Birthday to your mother.
-
There are several early 1930's films on TCM that I haven't seen, perhaps I shall watch those tonight.
-
I love the Creamy Walla Walla Sweet Onion Salad Dressing I have been buying.

Beaches, the restaurant on the river that we can walk to, makes a delicious Asian salad. I wish they bottled the dressing, or offered the salad more often than the occasional special.
-
I used to make a delicious thousand island dressing but I rarely eat it anymore, all that mayo.
-
Bryan makes a wonderful ginger miso dressing.
-
We went for a long stroll this evening. We have now walked over 18,000 steps today and that is just what we walked together. It does not include Keith's morning workout or my morning walk.

Nice.
Pretty soon I'm going back out and try to see the fireworks from Smith Park.
-
TOD - J. L. Hudson, the late Detroit department store, had lovely cafes where they served something called a Maurice Salad. It was basically a chef salad, but the dressing was fabulous. I've tried to replicate it, to no avail.
-
Thank you for the Criterion reminder. I just bought Vixdad two films as birthdays gifts
-
Watched a half a movie but kept dozing off - probably slept over an hour all told.
-
And in about twenty minutes its off to the dinner thing.
-
DR Vixmom, Happy Birthday to your mother.
Thank you!
-
Good evening!
-
I was a real potato today.
-
My big excitement was going to the grocery store.
-
I did watch the Broadway version of SHE LOVES ME, again.
-
Happy Birthday, Vixmommom.
-
One more post.
-
Six!

Where is everybody?
-
Hello, 1 Guest!
-
What is your favorite math equation?
-
I didn't get much sleep last night, so.......
-
'night.
-
Well, I just took a nice little nap.
-
It was not planned.
-
Thankfully, Nicky woke me up.
-
And he almost gave me a heart attack at the same time.
-
Good night, Jane.
-
I did not sleep long and am already awake again
-
Well, I just took a nice little nap.
It seems a nap is all I had.
-
I am going to try and read myself to sleep.
-
I am not tired, any longer.
-
I guess those short naps really are wonderful.
-
This doesn't seem like Saturday night.
-
But my Datexx clock confirms the day of the week, so I guess I can't argue.
-
Back from an excellent dinner thing - I could have really overeaten, but in the scheme of things I did not - I "may" have had 1400 calories but I jogged off some of those and that's not a terrible amount.
-

You could still claim it as a once only "cheat" day.
-
My Criterion collection got a nice facelift.
So did mine. :)
-
Since I got home, I have been on my computer...
-
...as opposed to my tablet.
-
I went to www.maple-films.com and was able to download the DVD files to a 4-1/2 hour fan edit of "The Hobbit."
-
You have to burn the files onto duel-layer DVDs.
-
They are too large for standard DVDs.
-
What the guy did was take the three "Hobbit" movies and edit them down to pretty much just what was in the book.
-
He had reasons for the things that he left in that were from the extended versions but weren't in the book, but they worked.
-
And since we're so close...
