Well, you've read the notes, the notes put the blame on Mame, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently putting the blame on MOOm.
-
And the word of the day is: BILDUNGSROMAN!
-
Topic of the Day: I don't believe that I have ever seen any Rita Hayworth movie.

First post after George after BK.

And speaking of the weather...it's 79.4°F up here in my bedroom right now. It's not the warmest that it's ever been, but it's kind of muggy, which is never comfortable. :P
-
Too darn hot to fall asleep. The air conditioner is now back on for another hour.
-
I sure wish I had some root beer Fizzies right about now!
-
I had a dream, I dreamed it for you, June. It wasn't for me Herbie. And if it wasn't for me, just where would you be, Miss Gypsy Rose Lee?
-
Hmmm. It must be heat stroke.
-
The bedroom is now down to 74 degrees.
-
Heat wave expected in New York starting tomorrow!
-
First East coast post!

The new book of (mainly show and film tune) parody lyrics "21st Century Oldies Volume 3" is up on Amazon. Createspace did well for me on this one, and were a joy to work with, as seems to be their style.

The book really doesn't take any political sides, but has fun with everybody involved in the foibles of current events.
If any of the HHW regulars want a free copy, happy to send one - just PM me your address (and if you end up liking it, an Amazon review is always appreciated.)

Good morning, all.

BILDUNGSROMAN! Same toe I stubbed last week!

This morning I must finish getting the place ready for the Refrigerator Delivery Gentlemen Callers who are scheduled to get here sometime between ten and noon o'clocks.
-
Weird dream(s), which I'm not having much luck bringing into focus.
-
I will put GILDA on top of the to-watch pile.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Yesterday's Ohio phone call still has me puzzled. I got to bed later than I intended, but I did sleep well.
-
Randy wrote me this morning, saying he knew nothing about this.
-
I know I've seen Rita Hayworth in more than one fulm but all I can think of is her version of Carmen without the music..
-
I need coffee.

Everything's ready upstairs, cats are in the basement, and I can sit back now and wait. I hope Godot doesn't get here before they do.
-
I just realized I sometimes conflate the names Rita Hayworth and Susan Hayward.
And having had said realization, I must segregate and better define them in my little mind once and for all.
I think THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI and PAL JOEY are the two I mostly know Rita from. Susan is I WANT TO LIVE, and off the top of my head I don't know what else.
-
DR Elmore, I truly hope the strange phone call portends better developments in the future than in the past.

Thursday morning greetings! Continuing with Project Mom until mid-afternoon when Richard and I will go out for errands. Tonight my book group discusses Kristin Kimball's The Dirty Life: On Farming, Food, and Love. Sorta like Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, but not as preachy. Also reminded me of Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman, but not as "cute."

LOL, DR Jane! I liked the book more than I expected. It was recommended to us by one of our original members who has since moved to Cincinnati and become active in the urban agriculture movement. I hope she joins us tonight at Katie's!

Thanks, DR Jane! I'm really looking forward to seeing my girlfriends.
I do miss mine, however, I get to spend more time with Keith living here which I love.

Chatting here now I have calmed down a bit as we received some terrible news this morning.
While with our friends to visit their niece we also spent time getting to know her three sons, all of whom we liked very much. We were especially moved by how close they were to each other, and how atentive the two older boys were with their much younger brother. We sat across the dinner table from the 20 year old middle son the first night and truly liked him, a nice good looking young man.
Yesterday he died in a bicycle accident. Now I'm crying again.
-
DR Jane, sorry to hear the news that's making you sad...
-
Elmo: I understand your feelings about never planning to see them again, but....did the issue about the disposal of your father's house ever get settled?
-
And since it's really none of MY business, I'll accept that replay without any ill feelings.

I will really be glad when the RNC madness is over. Tonight is "last night".

Meanwhile, there is music to be listened to, songs to be sung, films to watch, friends to chat with. Life is SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT than the exhibition of evil in Cleveland right now.
Just my point-of-view. I don't mind if you don't share it.

That is some brutally shocking news, DR Jane. Vibes to all concerned.

What color is y0ur new icebox DR CHAS SMITH?
-
DR Jrand65, I apologize for forgetting and leaving that unanswered the other day. Hang on a sec and I'll produce some photographic evidence.
-
It's a regular size GE bottom-freezer model, replacing a counter-depth side-by-side one. I wanted to change the configuration because, whether absolutely true or not, it makes more sense to me to keep the coldest air where it settles, and not have it fly out the door every time you open it. Also, while the old GE Profile (counter depth) was nice looking with the cabinets, there ain't nothing wrong with a full depth model, especially when it's on the end like this.

You have a lot of room there for it. If ours came out we wouldn't be able to open the door without hitting the counter across from it.

DR ChasSmith, the new fridge we got about a year and a half ago has the freezer on the bottom and we like it. It's nice to have the stuff you go after more often at eye level.

Hello, everyone.

I saw my Thai Torturer today. I knew he'd talk about the election. He has some interesting insights. Don't know where they come from, but we chat as he digs his thumbs into my scar tissue. I swear I want to hit him at times. It does help me, but it's tough to go through.
-
Sorry to hear Jane's sad news.
I have some of my own. I had a call early this morning from a good friend. Her daughter is in intensive care and isn't expected to live. Anna's known this was coming for at least a year now. There's nothing more the doctors can do. Her daughter is in her forties. The cause? Drugs.

I had a bottom freezer once and really liked it, for the same reason DR Ginny stated. I'd never seen one with side-by-side doors above, though. Hope you're very happy with it.

They're very 'in' now, and they're called French Door models. I never knew about them before starting to look around last week.

DR John G, you are very fortunate that your employer is so flexible with leave. After my mother died I needed to return to California to help my dad take care of all sorts of things. I asked for an unpaid leave. I was told no, that they didn't want to do the paperwork! They advised me to quit, then let them know when I was ready to return. My immediate boss told me to look for a job with a better company. Those were my feelings, too.
-
It was a real surprise how many co-workers approached me at work before my departure to say how much they admired what I was doing. What?! It had never occurred to me to do otherwise.
-
Glad to hear your dental visit was relatively smooth, DR Chas.
I have another one coming up next week and will be glad to have it behind me.
Did you know that the average dentist makes more money than most doctors?
-
TTFN.
-
Back from a two-and-a-half mile jog. Before the second rehearsal I ate two of my low-cal hot dogs on the low-cal buns - the two together nets 330 calories (I know, amazing, right) and then I just jogged off about 250 calories, so I'm down to 80 - instead of doing what I was thinking about, I'm making a very small portion of Wacky Noodles - 400 calories of pasta exactly, and with the other stuff that goes in I should net out right at 1000 calories for the day.

I can't begin to tell you, Jeanne, of how blessed I feel because my employer talks about putting family first. And they mean it. I've seen co-workers on all levels leave, even with projects hanging in the balance, because of a lockdown at one of their children's schools or because of some other family-related emergency.
With desk space at a premium now, it will be good to have me working from home, even if that home is in Louisville. One of my co-workers lives in Colorado Springs and does everything from her home. Another co-worker here in San Antonio decided he didn't want to brave the traffic anymore, so he works from home. Both are on my immediate team. Another co-worker decided she wanted to work at our downtown office, and everyone was fine with that. None of this interferes with our getting the job done.

Vibes of comfort for DR Jane.

Starting to watch Wim Wenders' Alice in the Cities, about a German journalist in America who becomes more interested in photography than in writing. Interesting German indy that I somehow missed. It's the first of that recently released Criterion trilogy. The black and white photography, recently restored, is gorgeous.

TOD:
I love Kerry's list, especially You'll Never Get Rich, which isn't a great movie, but all five Cole Porter songs are overlooked gems. You Were Never Lovelier has a great Mercer-Kern score, including I'm Old Fashioned and Dearly Beloved as well as the Shorty George.
Cover Girl, Lady from Shanghai, Down to Earth, Gilda and Only Angels Have Wings are other faves.

Why, when it was 102 outside, did I get a hot cup of decaf from McDonald's? And why, despite the heat, did I enjoy it so much?

Hello, NO Guests!

Nine of your brothers and sisters are hanging out at other days on the site.

I just got kicked out of the site, and then it closed itself.

Maybe it is the phase of the moon.

Or a plot by our nine guests!

Or not.

84 beautiful degrees here in Tacoma today.

Finished with my viewing.

I think it was a little warmer in Georgeland.

Jane I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend's son. Tragic.
-
Jeanne, I am so sorry to hear about another drug tragedy.
-
And for both Jane and Jeanne, vibes to both of you, as well.

After a beautiful day of weather, we are expecting showers tomorrow, and then sunshine all weekend.
-
I can live with that.

Another night without Nicky.

He is still doing well, but he is still radioactive.

I am thinking that he will come home tomorrow, but I could be wrong.

It seems like the entire country is having a massive heat wave.

I am glad that we didn't join the rest of the country.

Thank you Tom.

I am thinking that he will come home tomorrow, but I could be wrong.
I thought the original expected time was longer. Vibes he will return home tomorrow feeling much better.
-
It is currently 66 here. I don'the know if it reached 80 but it was pretty hot walking this afternoon and a wee bit muggy. It should be cooler tomorrow and might rain.
-
I should have gone swimming today. I haven'the gone this year. I planned to do so in the morning. I hope it is warm enough.

'night
-
I am thinking that he will come home tomorrow, but I could be wrong.
I thought the original expected time was longer. Vibes he will return home tomorrow feeling much better.
The average time is 4 to 7 days, but can be as little as one day and as many as ten days.

Jane and Jeanne I am so terribly sorry to hear your devastating news. Vibes and prayers for comfort

It is officially Vixdad's birthday.
-
How are you, Ms. Vixmom?
-
As per family custom he was presented with gifts and a card at the stroke of 12 (EST)
-
SIX
-
They were well received
-
Today I left work on time and ran to have my hairs cut and coifed in preparation for the weekend excursion
-
Happy Birthday to Vixdad!
-
We shal be visiting the wilds of Conneticut ....
-
Happily DR Chas has a new fridge and is skilled at making Texas Toast french bread so we shall surprise him by arriving for breakfast... I am sure he will be thrilled
-
Shhhh.... Don't tell him, it would spoil the surprise
-
John G it sounds like you have a wonderful employer... I wonder if I could work there and live here...
-
Actually one of the banks I work with, Guaanteed Rate, inc. seems an amazing place to work. A large numbe if their employees work from home. One of my contacts recently stopped working in the Manhattan office and began working from home. She took a couple of week holiday in between one day we were chatting and she mentioned she was no longer in NY.... Yes I said I know you wri from home, you're here in ( mentioned hand if Long Island town)... "No", she tells me, "I've moved to Hawaii "
-
Well I must get to work early tomorrow as I left something undone which must be done by 8:30
-
Good night all
-
Earlier, when I typed in "vixmom" auto correct said "Vixmom." I guess computers can still learn new things.
-
We are on page six, and there is no one here to interact with, so I guess I might as well sign off.
