Well, you've read the notes, the notes were ME notes, and now it is time for you to post until the ME cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PANTECHNICON!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
First post after BK!
-
Good night, Tom.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I'm up exceedingly early for a Sunday morning, but I have an exceedingly busy day ahead of me.
Yesterday afternoon my score reading/annotating software refused to perform a critical task. It would perform it on any other score, but not the one I was using. So I had to take about ten steps back, reinstall a raw copy of the score, and do various things in a different order to get to where I needed to be.
Finishing that up, and I might as well do a hat while I'm at it, will take the next few hours. And then I must pack everything up and head out to our little band rehearsal and sitzprobe.
-
So, first posts in the morning.
And I think we all know which one I mean. The real one, of course. The one and only east coast one.
-
Yesterday a strange thing happened. I stepped out on the deck to start the grill for a few hot dogs and noticed a sudden and very distinct change in the air. It was, of course, very warm, reportedly just over 90, but there was also a fairly strong wind. And that wind, dear readers, was dry. The first words out of my mouth were "it's just like a Santa Ana. I feel like I'm back in the Golden State."
So I got the grill going and, back inside, I checked the weather on three sites. Ninety-three degrees and twenty-three percent humidity, that latter being practically unheard of in these parts for a temperature like that. It was glorious. Of course the wind wasn't anywhere near as strong as a Santa Ana, but I was loving it. I was sorry I had to go out to see a play because my real desire was to stay home and sit out there in the shade and soak up that delicious warm dry air.
-
But it was my last chance to see my friends' production of [ title of show ], so see it I must. This was my first exposure to the show. The production was seemingly flawless and was brilliantly acted and sung (it sounds like a bitch, vocally), but I wasn't wholly enchanted by the material itself.
-
At some point I'll watch and listen to other performances and see what I think.
-
I should not be waking up with the East Coast folks. Good morning DR Chas.
-
I have been awake for an hour.
-
Good morning, DR Jane.
I'm afraid that's it for me, for now. Got to get busy reinventing a wheel.
Vibes to all for a lovely and enjoyable Sunday.
-
Have fun reinventing the wheel 😀
-
Getting online a little late this morning.
-
Good morning, all! I have been awake since 6:30 but too lazy to get out of bed.
-
I finally started moving around 7:45, and the laundry is in the washers.
-
I do need coffee.
-
I had lost of dreams all relating to The Manchurian Candidate, which I first saw around ten years ago. I had forgotten so much of it, mostly the things that freaked me our last night, like the young Bobby getting shot and the entire John McGiver-Leslie Parrish tragedy.
-
Today I must get through Act One of Gentlemen, Be Seated! and either ask for more fixes or dign off. I've found one typing error so far.
-
Good morning!
-
TCB: I'm so glad Nicky is home! I was laughing picturing him walking from room to room and chastising you!
-
Watching "The White Cliffs of Dover" on TCM. Love Irene Dunne.
-
Good Morning, Everybody!

We were commenting on that last night how wonderful to have a dry heat!
-
Thanks to everyone! Closing night was fine. I NEVER have to hear this production again.....I took to snapping my fingers for the beats it took one actor to pick up his cue or start talking.....it was never less than three and sometimes as many as eight.....
We were finished with the strike one hour and forty minutes AFTER the bows which was great.....so on to 1776!
-
URINETOWN.....include me out.

Good morning.

I had a nice ME day yesterday. We went up Snowbowl Mountain to look for butterflies. Saw lots of things in addition to butterflies.

TCB, you should have heard Joshie yelling at me when I brought him home from having all his teeth removed. I will admit that was a traumatizing event for him.
-
DR LAURA - I was behind a FISO truck for several miles yesterday.
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! When we pulled up outside baggage claim at the Dayton airport last night and Richard spotted Mary Linda, he said, "That looks like one tired human being!" She crashed as soon as we got home, but we were all up in time to leave at 9am for her church. She had altar duty, so Richard and I dropped her off and went to Starbucks for coffee. Back in time to deliver her some caffeine before the service, during which Fr. Richard took notes on logistics because he's celebrating there next Sunday. We went to lunch at First Watch and now we're all glad to be home in the air conditioning. It's hot and humid here in SW Ohio, which can be really miserable.
-
...I so-o-o-o need a ME day...

I've been tied up all afternoon with fixes in the new Gentlemen, Be Seated! vocal score preface material and writing an Editor's Note. My mind is fried.

I just heard from Steve Young, a college friend I have not seen since March 1974. He will come to the Aug. 1 reading, and this makes me very happy. We have spoken several times in the past 42 years and when he was last in the City in 2014 and wanted to get together for a drink, I was in really bad shape.
-
I'm up, I'm up - a wonderful ten hours of blessed sleep.

Thanks for sharing your photography, as usual I enjoyed it.

It is nice to reconnect with old friends. I'm glad he can make it to the reading.
-
Yesterday was a ME day for me, and today will also be a ME day. :D
-
I just had a phone call from a friend of mine and Dr Ginny's who is having a hard time with her mind. It worries and I am frightened for her.
-
Oh, DR Elmore, I'm sorry to hear that...
-
DR ELMORE - I didn't see my name on the poster.

The Aug. 1 reading poster? I was told you were too busy.
-
Well, my interview is up and i have no idea how to hear it! I'm sure I made a complete ass of myself, but my brother Randy just sent me an email saying he enjoyed it1

Back. And showered. Man, it's hotter today -- and our regular humidity is partly back -- so of course the A/C in the dance studio/rehearsal hall STOPPED halfway through.
-
A cool drink is in order. Says I.
-
Hmmm. It says "Listen to the episode NOW:" and there ain't nothing after the NOW.
At least not on my browser. (Firefox, Windows)
-
I'll try it later on another "device".
-
That's what happens to me also DR CHAS SMITH.....maybe NOW means something else on Broadway.
-
Maybe I am too busy DR ELMORE....I will check my August 1 calendar.

You better be a proficient on jew's harp, washboard, or spoons. Otherwise, don't bother.
-
DR Jrand65, you need to make sure your people don't overbook you. Visibility at a gig like this can open doors.
-
Well, I opened the link on Opera, and just under "Listen Now:" there is a listening band. It doesn't show on Safari, and i have no idea why.

I have both Chrome and Firefox on my tablet, and neither works (no surprise there). It does work on Chrome on my desktop computer. I was able to capture the audio, so I have the MP3, if anyone wants to download it to keep. :D

Quite an interesting interview! I found it quite fascinating.
Yes, there's a band at the bottom. It's a bit tricky. I had to just keep trying, but once it worked it worked well.
Congrats, Larry!
-
It was very complimentary to BK, too. The interviewers asked about Larry and Sondheim (the Pulitzer story), Larry and John McGlinn, and Larry and BK. That's good company to be in.
-
I just listened. I'm too nervous and i hate my lisp. I cannot believe they included the Kiri te Kanawa story, but i'm happy they did not include my breakdown talking about SHOW BOAT. I completely lost it; there was too much emotion about McGlinn and dead friends.
-
On other matters, it's hot again today in ole LA. Yes, it's hot almost everywhere. We don't usually get much humidity, but it's a bit humid today, so it feels warmer than it really is. I went out for an hour, but now I'm staying captive in AC.
-
3?
-
Everyone's nervous during interviews. I thought you were having a great time telling interesting old stories.
-
Stay cool, everyone.
TTFN.

It's thoroughly enjoyable!

I love BK! I hope they will ask me back to talk about more of our recordings together. I'll be calmer the next time.

Beautiful, Laura.
-
Looking forward to listening to the podcast, Larry. Have to finish watching Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House.
-
I felt like the Helms man this morning. I got a late message asking me to go fetch the doughnuts for church. BK's song kept running through my head as I went to get them and deliver them to the hungry congregation.
-
Vibes for the friend of DR elmore and DR Ginny!

We had a very lovely weekend and I am only sorry we waited so long to go

DR ELMORE I am proficient at both washboard and spoons. There was NO slacking in my musical education.
-
I shall have to go to Opera and see if I can listen.....
-
Larry, I'm halfway through the podcast and love it.
-
Does Patricia know you've done it?
-
Looking forward to listening to the podcast, Larry. Have to finish watching Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House.
I love this movie!!!
Love the cast and I enjoyed the movie, which I think I saw in recent years but had very little memory of it.
-
What's it going to take to move this sucker to page four?
-
Got any more Kiri stories, Elmore? That was fun.
-
I have spent too much at Barnes and Noble during the Criterion sale. Yesterday's extra 10% off didn't help matters much.
Picked up the David Lean directs Noel Coward set, Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress and Renoir's A Day in the Country as well as a Christmas present for a friend, all for the regular price of the Coward set.
-
Of course, I won't have time to watch them before I leave for Louisville.
-
I did finish Muriel, or The Time of Return.
It contained the following wonderful lines:
Can you help me find a mate for my nanny goat? I mean, you know a lot of people (pause). For my nanny goat!
-
Then there was this one, with no context:
You had barred your door to us. You lived in a bathrobe and you ate yogurt.
-
And then later in the movie, because you can't let a good line die:
Hey, Monsieur, have you found a mate your my nanny goat. For my goat. For my goat.
-
Four!

When pondering paint colors we often talk about the wonderful scene with Myrna Loy and the painter.
-
That scene, Jane, is what I remembered most from it.
-
I have to retire.
-
For the night, at least.
-
Good night, all.
-
I'm on Safari and it shows for me - I liked it!
-
Page four? Really? Let's stop this malarky. Well, finished with my viewing and I guess I do have a little work to do so I may as well do it.
-
I'm on Safari and it shows for me - I liked it!
Shows? It's video? The Chrome browser on my desktop computer didn't have any video. I'll have to check out the other browsers that I have so that I can view it. I did enjoy the audio portion, though.

It's probably because I still have Windows XP. :-\
-
Good evening!
-
Today was a nice day.
-
It was warm, but not hot.
-
It is a bit muggy tonight.
-
The weather didn't really matter to me.
-
I didn't even leave the house today.
-
Come to think of it, I didn't get the newspaper at the front door.
-
Nicky seemed more mellow today.
-
He slept in the recliner with me this afternoon.
-
Mostly he slept on and off in the bedroom.
-
Today I watched assorted things on the TV.
-
I watched a few more episodes of the first season of THE FLASH.
-
I have seen them all a couple of times, but I enjoy watching them.
-
Then I watched GYPSY.
-
This was the version from London starring Imelda Staunton.
-
I didn't care for her in the beginning, but she grew on me very quickly.
-
Quite a powerful performance.
-
One more post.
-
Five
-
Hello, 1 Guest!
-
It was actually a very good production.
-
I got a little weepy during "Rose's Turn."
-
If you haven't seen it, I would recommend it.
-
It is currently available on Broadway HD.
-
Then I watched a favorite old Disney film.
-
THE ISLAND AT THE TOP OF THE WORLD.
-
The film stars David Hartman.
-
Not a great film actor, but he has a nice relaxed acting style.
-
Tonight I watched more of the ABC game shows.
-
Mindless, but I wasn't in the mood to read.
-
I skipped THE MATCH GAME and watched the news instead.
-
Tomorrow I am taking Sandy out for lunch.
-
And two weeks from tonight I will be in Las Vegas.
-
Or, as they say, Lost Wages.
-
That scene, Jane, is what I remembered most from it.
:)
-
Nicky seemed more mellow today.
Wonderful.
-
Mostly he slept on and off in the bedroom.
Aww.
-
Tomorrow I am taking Sandy out for lunch.
Have a nice time. I hope Sandy is feeling okay.
-
Today we saw "THE LEGEND OF TARZAN". Not knowing much about this I thought it was going to be the original story. It was a new story.
-
The scenery was beautiful as were Tarzan and Jane.
-
I guess tomorrow we will decide if we want to see a show while we are there.
-
'night
-
I would be happy to go back to Goldberg's, but Sandy wants to go the buffet at Snoqualmie.
-
Good night, Jane.
-
George it's not video. I mean the audio bar shows up on my screen in Safari.
-
I submitted my name to possibly direct MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET this fall.
-
And yes, if I decide to direct 34TH STREET, then I won't be appearing in WONDERFUL LIFE.
-
I would like to read the adaptation they are going to use, before I make my decision.
-
SIX
-
It is almost midnight, and I am not a bit tired.
-
I am also thinking of auditioning for DRACULA.
-
Obviously, I am not going after the role of Dracula, but rather the role of Dr. Van Helsing
-
The show is being directed by a friend of George.
-
George must have gone to bed early.
-
George it's not video. I mean the audio bar shows up on my screen in Safari.
Ahh...thanks.
-
Elmore, congratulations on the interview. I will have to listen to it tomorrow.
-
TCB: I'm so glad Nicky is home! I was laughing picturing him walking from room to room and chastising you!
Thanks, Kevin, it was really pretty funny.
-
And yes, if I decide to direct 34TH STREET, then I won't be appearing in WONDERFUL LIFE.
But then there won't be the possibility of us acting together. :(
-
But you have to do what you have to do. I definitely would love to see it. :)
-
It is almost midnight, and I am not a bit tired.
The story of my life. ::)
;)
-
TCB, you should have heard Joshie yelling at me when I brought him home from having all his teeth removed. I will admit that was a traumatizing event for him.
Poor Joshie.
-
And yes, if I decide to direct 34TH STREET, then I won't be appearing in WONDERFUL LIFE.
But then there won't be the possibility of us acting together. :(
I wouldn't worry about it, George. I doubt it will happen.
