Well, you've read the notes, the notes were pretty good and spoke of tacos, and now it is time for you to post until the pretty good cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CHIASMUS!

~~~Vibes and Xylophones for BK's Guest Star~~~
First and second posts after BK!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I have to leave the apartment just before 8:00 to make my eye appointment on East 22nd by 9:15.
-
I think I will get drops to dilate my pupils this session and I really hate that. I'll be blind for some period of time after, and I need to make my way to 8th Avenue and 43rd Street for our rehearsal at noon.
-
DR JRand65, pack up those instruments and get to New York fast. We're so low budget that we cannot afford your travel, but there's always room for a virtuoso performer on spoons or washboard.
-
I am really saddened by the news of my beloved Marni Nixon's death. She was a truly beautiful person. and the world is a little less bright today. I didn't see her often enough in the thirty years I knew her, but they were always wonderful surprises: sitting directly behind her at the penultimate performance of the Broadway production of RAGS, being able to offer her our extra ticket at Juilliard for a performance of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, running into her on 72nd Street after BK's Kritzerland show, the last time I saw her.
-
I do not want to step outside today. My air conditioned cocoon is so pleasant.
-
No political thought to this - Both VP nominee Tim Kaine and his wife Anne graduated in my law school class. I remember Anne very well from school days, but I don't remember Tim from school at all. I wonder if I was in the same classes as Anne more often.
-
Good morning, all.
-
DR Elmore just struck a mighty blow with the news of Marni Nixon's death.
This one hurts. RIP, beautiful woman.
-
Well.....some bastards stole some of the roofing materials our of our driveway late last night or early this morning.....
Work was supposed to start tomorrow.
-
DR Elmore, here's a snapshot I didn't even know I had until at some point long after the event.
I don't think I ever posted it, either. But even if I did...
-
And of course...
-
Well, I must get me busy and prepare to get to my post-veneering checkup at the dentist.
Thankfully, the rest of today, all day tomorrow, and the morning and afternoon of Wednesday, are MINE. And boy do I need them.
-
When we were in Ireland, filming THE DOORWAY, Roy Scheider and I had a lot of late night discussions about "the business".
We both agreed that THE RUSSIA HOUSE began the downward slide of his career. It's not that he shouldn't have taken the role, but he should not have accepted the below-the-title billing unless it was a special billing (e.g. "and Roy Scheider as...") the same size as Connery & Pfiefer.
Indeed, career-wise, billing is more important than money in this business.
Monday morning greetings...
We were so thrilled to meet Marni Nixon that night on 72nd Street and send our condolences to all who love her.
-
Well, it certainly is Monday.
-
I did nt get drops in my eyes and thought, I'll head home. I can be there by 10:30 and then re;ax for 45 minutes before I head to rehearsal. Nope, thanks to damned traffic. It took me an hour to get home. So I'll leave in 10 minutes. I think I can bus to Columbus Circle, then take a subway to 42nd and 8th Avenue.
-
Richard has seen the chiropractor today and I've been to the post office. Home now, plugging away at Project Mom.
-
From DR TCB:
And yes, if I decide to direct 34TH STREET, then I won't be appearing in WONDERFUL LIFE.
Vibes you get the show you most want to do!
Though we would prefer to see you on stage we will do our best to go up to either show.
-
From DR George:
But then there won't be the possibility of us acting together. :(
I know. Oh, I guess there is the possibility we will need to go up for two shows, maybe an evening show and a matinee.
-
I think I will get drops to dilate my pupils this session and I really hate that. I'll be blind for some period of time after, and I need to make my way to 8th Avenue and 43rd Street for our rehearsal at noon.
Does NY offer any kind of shuttle service for people with disabilities? At times I believe you would qualify.
Do you have to pay for that or are the roofing people insured?
Thank you for the nice photos DR Chas.
Vibes and xylophones for the possible guest star!
I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep.
-
Slept in much later than I thought.
Good morning, all.
Welcome back, bigbuck
It was my friend Ping's son who lives in Santa Clarita, and he got evacuated last night. So, vibes for all of those affected by the fires there.
The policeman said there have been a lot of thefts of things lately. The roofer was here to give him an inventory of what was taken. I think his insurance will cover it, but it may have to go through our homeowner's insurance. We shall see.
Tonight is my first rehearsal with the cast of 1776....we shall see what happens.
-
TOD:
Sean Connery: All of the Bonds, The Man Who Would Be King, First Knight, The Wind and the Lion
I am still trying to figure out her "staggering beauty" which was written about in the reviews of her movies.....she looks pretty ordinary to me....
Oh...wait....I did like her in two movies:
To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
-
Topic of the Day:
Sean Connery:
The Bond movies (I haven't seen all of his, though)
Good luck!!
Decided to get the two-and-a-half mile jog over and done with, so that's good.
Well, I am finally able to start listening to the interview with DR Elmore!
The audio link doesn't even appear in Firefox on my Windows laptop. Likewise, in Safari on my iPad. But using Chrome on the laptop, I get it.
What is UP with this???
Anyhoo, on to the interview!
Greece 2 wasn't great but I enjoyed it. I also remember thinking this woman is going to be a big star.
Vibes nothing else is stolen before the roof is completed.
We have our new refrigerator door and we expect the problem to be fixed. To begin with this door fits better as well as opening and closing properly. They should have replaced the door after the first visit with the repairman, or at least after the 3rd visit but not over a year later.
-
The door looks better too as the dent I put in it is gone. A reminder to myself, do not open the oven door when the refrigerator door is open.
-
It just got darker than HELL here. Thunderstorm's about to come through, and the air outside has that incredible earthy, pre-rain smell. It's positively intoxicating.
-
Thanks DR JANE....I hope so.
-
DR elmore I am sorry I could not open the podcast and listen to your interview.
PAGE THREE DANCE!!
Pick a dance...any dance. :)
-
Wonderful interview/podcast!
I love how relaxed and conversational it is. Why, it's almost like noshing with DR Elmore at Artie's. :)
-
Listened to some more Ned Rorem: "Eagles" and "Air Music" on a still-sealed LP I'd picked up - probably at the Tower Annex in the Village - back in the early '90s. Louisville Symphony. Good stuff.
-
Had a very nice work session with Kerry O'Malley for the Sterling anniversary show - I made a few suggestions that everyone agreed with. Tomorrow we add the other singer, Mary Callanan. After that, Hilda, my lighting gal for the ALS show came by and we mapped out the stage and where the band goes and I will finally have my two aisles for entrances and exits - I wanted them last year and the year before but unfortunately our MD was too involved and doesn't understand layout and space well - this time we kept him out of it and it took exactly three minutes to figure out the layout. I remember him coming in and seeing where the band was going to be for the LA show and thinking they'd never fit - well, I laid it out, they fit and had room for another two instruments.
-
I am home, slightly damp, and really exhausted. It was a long but very good rehearsal and we covered much of the harder vocal material. The cast sounds great, and I like them very much.
-
Got the email, DR Elmore, and have just sent in my ten (actually $11.50) bucks! :)
-
Loved your interview, DR elmore!!
-
I'm sorry to hear about Marni Nixon. I'm so glad I got to meet her at Bruce's show a couple of years ago. Thanks for introducing me, DR elmore!
-
It reached 100 degrees in DC today for the first time in 4 years. The heat index was 111, I think.
-
TCB: Too bad you're not arriving in Las Vegas a little earlier. Barbra's concert is on the 6th.
-
Nice photos, DR ChasSmith!
I was just about to complain it is 80 degrees here and slightly humid. I won't complain now.
When we saw Tarzan yesterday there was one line for two box office windows. Normally that means two lines, one for each window, however, a woman was standing in the middle so I got behind her.
When we went into the theater she got into the snack bar line and I stood behind her while Keith gave our tickets to the door person. The woman then realized she had not handed over her ticket, got out of line, and I graciously offered her spot in line back to her and she said "thank you".
I am leading up to something here ;D
-
This woman noticed there were people ordering food at a second window at the counter and began walking over to it. I hesitated thinking we were in one big line again. A man that had been in front of her called out and said we were all waiting in one line. Does she return to the line, NO. She argued with him, said it didn't work that way and proceeded to go in front of everyone to be next at the other spot.
-
I then left Keith in line to go get our seats. He heard her complaining at the counter that people were rude to her about going into the other line. What really got to me was that she seemed nice and polite.
-
Why didn't you just get a new fridge. So bizarre!
Good afternoon.
And of course...
I think I may have taken that picture with your camera, Chas. Elmore very kindly introduced me to her as well, and Ms. Nixon very generously pretended to be as pleased to meet me as I was to meet her
I doubt she pretended anything! She was such a charming and friendly lady. DR vixmom. I am certain she recognized a kindred soul.
I just finished listening to your wonderful interview Elmore!
Thank you George!
I could not tell that you were nervous at all, I agree with Chas, it was as if we were sitting in Artie's !
Laura, can you share the story behind your quote?
Thank you George!
My pleasure, Vixmom!
You are a good woman
-
Well, I need to leave work now. I'll eventually get home, but not just yet. I need to do a little shopping first.
Be back later.
-
Either I got him calmed down or he began drinking. I guess either is fine with me.
-
Laura, can you share the story behind your quote?
It was part of a dream I had a week or so ago. We were watching a skit about going to hell, and a kid looked distressed. I asked him if he was ok, and he said to me, "I'm sorry; I'm from Minneapolis."
-
Why didn't you just get a new fridge. So bizarre!
Because they were able to fix it. For some strange reason they just weren't willing to replace the door at first. Instead they spent money on replacing all sorts of things.
The frig would "sweat" when the humidity went up to a certain level. We are high right now which is a good way to know if the replacement truly fixed the problem.
Thank you. They are settled in at a friend's house, but still worried, as you can imagine, about smoke damage or worse.
Ha!
-
We're having a nice little thunderstorm happening outside right now. And a much-needed amount of rain.
-
It'll be great for the two plants I put in this Saturday, a tiny avocado tree in the ground and a plumbago in a large pot.
-
And while the plants are getting a dose of fresh water, I'm watching the stale, dreadful lies of "Night and Day" with Cary Grant and Alexis Smith. Even the music feels muted and dull. How do you make Cole Porter music dull?
-
Well, there's no way I'm going to make it through this tonight, but I started THE RUSSIA HOUSE which I'd never seen, and it's wonderful.
Got about a third of the way through it before realizing sleep would overtake me before long. Will probably just start over tomorrow night, picking up details that didn't sink in this time, then carry on from there. I like to attack movies that way sometimes. Either that way, or watching it all the way through and just absorbing whatever I absorb, then do a little reading or something on it and ravenously devour it in another viewing. Movies that have anything much to do with spying are ripe for this kind of approach, due to their inherit complexity.
The power is flickering off and on.
-
The power is flickering off and on.
We had a couple of incredible storms this evening, and while the power stayed solid, the landline phone went dead. That's highly unusual. It must have been off for four hours or more, and I just noticed it had a dial tone again.
-
Maybe they don't make land lines like they used to.
-
Hey, you know what pleasantly surprised me? Ken Russell, playing a role in this one. I suspect he's more or less playing himself, but it's perfect.
-
Five!
-
Tell me that Ken Russell is not speaking with a Russian accent.
-
The power is flickering off and on.
Our power was off for a couple of hours and came back on just before 10pm.
-
I just got off the phone with a mutual friend, warning her to be careful the next few days.
-
Boy, this movie is dreadful.
-
Laura, can you share the story behind your quote?
And the word of the day is: CHIASMUS!
CHIASMUS is five months from today.
-
I just listened to Elmores interview again
It was even better the second time
-
We had some wicked Weather here this evening but the electric stayed on
-
DR Elmore, I upgraded to Windows 10 and now my speakers don't work. When my IT guy comes over next (my son), I'll have him fix that so I can listen to your interview.
-
Ken Russell is wonderful in The Russia House - just doing Ken Russell but it really works.
-
Finished The Black Stallion Returns and watched half of another movie. In addition to the two tacos (I ate the leftover meat without shells or anything), I had two little flour tortillas (120 calories each) with a little low-fat cheese in them. I wasn't even that hungry but I had to get up to 1000 calories. But then I got adventurous and did another jog - this one a mile-and-a-half so today was a four-mile day. I probably netted out around eight hundred calories, and that's fine. I'm still full from the tortilla things and that means my tummy has definitely shrunk. This is now almost five weeks of being a very good boy and jogging every day. Pants are fitting much nicer now and the big part of what had become a little gut is pretty much disappearing, but I have at least twenty to twenty-five pounds to go, but I'm over the difficult beginning hump for sure and I've certainly lost at least twelve pounds. So, onward. I'd like to be down another six pounds for sure by the Kritzerland show and three pounds more by the ALS benefit, and then six pounds more by the anniversary show. That will give me a very good idea of how much further I need to go. I have a certain goal in mind - and I've tried to attain it during the last two diets but didn't quite get there - this time I will absolutely get there.
-
Well done bk. I have to get motivated to get back in shape... The pictures of me taken this weekend should have done it
-
Good evening!
-
It is 81 degrees in my bedroom
-
I am trying not to turn on the A/C tonight.
-
We are just starting with the hot weather.
-
It was 85 degrees today, but is supposed to be ten degrees less tomorrow.
-
Then Wednesday it goes back up again.
-
It'll be great for the two plants I put in this Saturday, a tiny avocado tree in the ground and a plumbago in a large pot.
How nice. May they both do well.
We probably still have two months of hot weather to go.
It is better to lose the landlines than power ;)
I am glad you have both working now.
Today was a beautiful day to drive up to Snoqualmie.
-
Sandy and I had a nice lunch.
-
One more post.
Six
-
Sandy and I had a nice lunch.
:)
-
Decided to finish the second movie which was actually two movies in one.
-
Okay. I gave up and turned on the A/C.
-
Why should I suffer?
-
Sandy looked pretty good.
-
He told me that he was feeling small changes to his body.
-
I took that to mean negative changes.
-
Why should I suffer?
Exactly!
-
I took that to mean negative changes.
That's too bad. :(
-
I will probably pursue the topic, when we are relaxing in Vegas.
