Well, you've read the notes, the notes buckled down and Winsockied, and now it is time for you to post until the buckled down cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: COSMOPOLIS!
-
First post after BK!
-
T.O.D.
THE STAND
THE DEAD ZONE
IT
-
I really thought I was going to love 11/22/63, but I read the first half, and never picked it up again.
-
I wonder what I did with the DVD of THE STAND? I would love to watch it again.
-
IT was a very good miniseries, until they made the mistake of showing the audience It. Better for the audience to see It in their own minds.
-
Good night!
-
Good morning to all
-
TOD
I only read: Carrie (Which I don't think was well written) The Shining and his collection of short stories whose name I have forgotten. There were some really spooky stories in that book.
-
Good morning. It was a surprisingly busy week at the tax office, so I'll have to try to catch up on what I've missed on HHW during the weekend.
-
Good morning. I thought I would sleep in this morning until 4:30, but Joshie thought I should get up at 3:30 to feed him.
-
Still no car.....and I have a board meeting tomorrow.....I may have to borrow transportation.....ugh....
-
Travel vibes for DR TCB.
Good news from DR VIXMOM about her uncle!
-
TOD:
The Shining
Christine
He wrote a book about horror movies and growing up, but I can't find the title....it's non fiction.....I had the paperback. It might be DANSE MACABRE....but I'm not sure.
-
Yes it IS Danse Macabre......
-
Good morning, all!
-
I had a very bad night, physical sickness not at all related to my back or leg, and slept quite late.
-
I need to do laundry, but I have no energy at the moment to accomplish anything. I may spend the day lying down and procrastinate until tomorrow.
-
DR Ginny introduced me to Stephen King. I had a tonsillectomy in 1976, I think, and she brought me "The Shining" to read while I recuperated. It terrified me, and I then read "'Salem's Lot," which did the same. I thought "Carrie" was weak and that the film was better than the book.
I really liked "Danse Macabre" and the short story collections as well as "Christine," "Cujo," and "Pet Sematary." After that, I felt he no longer cared what an editor thought, and the books grew longer and the content meandered. I wanted to like "It," but I thought it was far too long, never lived up to its opening chapters, had a ridiculous conclusion, and I never read another of his books.
-
I liked Salems Lot very much and the first half of the Stand terrified me, especially as I was read the beginning of it while in the waiting room of the local ER during a flu epidemic.... And I have never driven through the holland tunnel since reading that story..bridges only, baby.
The second half of the book was less satisfying
-
Good morning, all.
-
I am sorry to hear you are unwell,Elmore I have to go into the city now to meet client I was hoping we could get together for a meal
-
Well, our long national nightmare is just about over.
This evening, provided the day's thunderstorms have completely passed on by 5 p.m. or so, we will have our closing night GYPSY.
If it has to be called, we do it tomorrow.
-
And nobody wants to have to do it tomorrow.
Show-wise, it's been pretty good. But it's time to stick a fork in it.
-
It's a Lazy Saturday, but I have way too much to do to indulge in the lazy part.
-
I have not read any books by Stephen King.
-
Ok I am leaving for the big apple if any NYC DRs care to meet me I think you all have my cell number. I do not have a smart phone so I will not have email access
-
And asking vibes that the threatened thunderstorms stay away
-
One more cos I like how my post count looks
-
Ok I am leaving for the big apple if any not Drs care to meet me I think you all have my cell number. I do not have a smart phone so I will not have email access
DR vixmom, we simply have to plan this sometime. I can't join this weekend, but a lot of them coming up are perfectly doable.
-
Vibes DR Elmore enjoys a forced day off, as it were, and recovers from his horrible night.
-
I had my own horrible night -- I guess it was Wednesday. Thursday was a recovery day in which hardly anything got done, then yesterday was fine. In fact, it was downright wonderful in contrast. But man, I hate that.
-
I have such a spotted history with Stephen King, because I'm afraid I've let many of the stories that are such an ingrained part of our culture pass me by. And that isn't to say I won't catch up with them one of these days, both for better and for worse.
He is such a wonderful writer when he's good. His drawing of characters, and his ability to introduce a place and a situation in the early segments of a book, have never failed to suck me right in. In my view some of them are nothing short of genius. Unfortunately, especially in the latter and really bloated novels, what we're left with is an unfinished masterpiece.
There are so many things I love about certain of his stories that I find it really difficult to make a simple list. Basic highlights would be THE SHINING, THE DEAD ZONE, CHRISTINE, THE LANGOLIERS (people don't often mention that one but it's one of my favorites), the short stories (including '1408'), and THE STAND (oops, I haven't actually read much of that one). Maybe THE DARK HALF, don't remember a lot of it now.
I know I'm leaving out some good ones.
And yes, his non-fiction writing is wonderful.
-
That post was so brilliant it cleared the room almost instantaneously.
-
But in the words of DR vixmom...
Why so elk heck.
-
;D
-
I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep and now I must jog.
-
Another rattlesnake this morning. That's four in the last two weeks.
-
I'm SO glad that's not something the rest of us can say. :)
-

DR vixmom, I am so sorry that I will miss you today! I'm staying inside and doing little.

Sorry about your car DR Jrand. I hope you still enjoy your weekend.
-
I am sick of lying about. I'll see if I can accomplish some Guys & Dolls work.
I made a run to the market for some soda to settle my stomach, got back, and found there was a bottle at the back of the fridge. If I get senile, someone, please walk me to a bus stop and push me under it.

I have been watching the Olympics today. Really enjoying the swimming.
How many different channels are the Olympics on for you guys? In Canada it is on CBC, TSN1-2..., RSN1-2... plus NBC. So many different sports to watch.

TOD:
THE DEAD ZONE
SALEM'S LOT

Saturday afternoon greetings! I spent several hours at the StampawayUSA trade show, shopping 'til I dropped. Bought some paper, some stamps, some stencils, and a gizmo for precision stamp placement. Visited with some of my Thursday and Friday classmates and with one of my Thursday instructors. There were 46 vendors there this year.
-
Back from lots o' stuff - I had some matzo brei to tide me over until dinner - about three hundred calories.
-
Also did the jog.
-
It's been a very very very quiet day. I like that. I have begun reading George Martin's wonderful All You Need Is Ears.
-
MARS NEEDS WOMEN!

I have absolutely no idea since I don't watch any of them ;D

It sounds like you had a fun, and successful, time.

I think Keith is planning to make some for us tomorrow morning.
-
There are several cable channels showing Olympic events today....and there are live events tonight on ABC.
-
Or maybe it's NBC.....
-
Stumble-through was REALLY good, and then a few of us went to Casa Vega, where I had two beef tacos - those have less than three hundred calories, so with my matzoh brei earlier I'm still a bit less than 1000 calories, plus whatever amount I jogged off.

My day did not go as planned
-
I was supposed to me the client around 1 I Times Square. After arriving and parking in a garage I called to let him know I arrive only to be told he was in New Jersey and would not be there fir another hour
-
So I wandered a bit and finally walked down to Macy's
-
I called again and was told he would be another hour or so....then at my third call he announced that I should meet him down at 22nd street
-
So I walked down there and met him more than 2 hours latr than planned, 25 blocks away from my car
-
I met him at a restaurant where he had clearly just had a meal with someone else as two plates and glasses were pushed to the side
-
I did not express my annoyance at having my day wasted while he had lunch... Just Had him sign the papers and went on my way
-
Then I suddenly realized I was in Chelsea
-
And I further realized that two people I liked very much and had not seen in much too long live in Chelsea.
-
I made a phone call and invited to me to meet me for ice cream and was in turn invited to visit
-
Shortly after I arrived the skies opened and the rain came pouring down but we were happily catching up in the dry
-
Then the rain stopped , the sun came out, and we went out to a local diner and had a lovely dinner
-
So a potentially crummy day turned into a very lovely one
-
And I am niw home
-
And here endeth my tale...I pass the talking stick
-
Good evening, all.
-
Spent the day talking about rose' wine up on Fredericksburg at a winery and then having a picnic under the olive trees while the sun set.
Lovely. Relaxing.
-
Except I discovered that one of my front headlights has gone out. I need to get that fixed -- and soon.
-
TOD:
I've read everything of Stephen King's and have forgotten more than I remember.
The Stand
It
The first half of Gerald's Game
Bag of Bones
The trilogy of Mr. Mercecdes/Finders Keepers/End of Watch
-
TOD 2:
The worst of Stephen King is his attempt at a musical. Written with John Mellencamp. Called Ghost Brothers of Darkland County. Oh, my, did it stink.
-
Busy time. And I still haven't started packing. Oy.
-

The library where I work bought the CD. I listened to it but I didn't care for the style of music at all. I like Stephen King but I didn't enjoy this.
-
I'd read a lot of King's early novels, but at some point I just stopped reading his stuff. I liked his writing style and the stories, but his endings just crapped out.
-
It got to be a little annoying.
-

I agree with you. Under the Dome started out well, but when he reached page 1,000, he just seemed to lose interest and just stopped the story in about 15 pages.
-
Also, the Dark Tower series just filled page after page of nothing, and the ending was worst of all.
-
Watching an Arthur Miller play called Incident at Vichy. Very good cast, including Rene Auberjonois, Richard Jordan, Harris Yulin, Barry Primus and more. Not Miller's best writing. But it's good.
-
GYPSY is done. D.U.N. Done. Finished. Kaput.
Yay!!! :)
-

I only read the first three books. There was too big a gap until the next book and I lost interest. I haven't read any of the others in the series.
-
Now it's my turn to sit in a diner waiting for people.
-
Good evening!
-
I have to be at the airport in less than 12 hours.
-
I am really not ready to go.
-
I mean I am packed - sort of.
-
Page 4? Really?
-
I don't know what my problem is.
-
I am not sick or anything.
-
Just out of sorts.
-
I will be ready to go when the time comes.
-
Anything I forget to bring, I can always buy there.
-
For three times the price.
-
I did take my scooter in to have the battery(s) checked.
-
The scooter seems a little slower than it was when I got it.
-
They said the batteries were fine.
-
One of the employees took it out and tested it in the parking lot.
-
He said it seemed fine to him.
-
They tested the batteries several times just to make sure.
-
Maybe I am just getting fat.
-
I just didn't want to get down to Vegas and have it die on me.
-
So I feel more secure about it now.
-
I still need to pack my charger for my scooter.
-
So I feel more secure about it now.
That's good, Tom.
-
In fact I have several chargers to pack.
-
Plus my IPad
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
And my phone.
-
And my UNDERPANTS.
-
I know I will end up over packing.
-
One more post.
-
Page Five
-
First post after TCB on Page Five!
;)
-
Rich Little is still appearing in Vegas.
-
I honestly didn't know he was still alive.
-
That is the problem of not having variety shows on TV.
-
When we had Ed Sullivan and other shows, there was a place for a wide variety of acts.
-
Rich Little can, at least, still play Vegas.
-
But where do the plate spinners perform?
-
And whatever happened to Topo Gigio?
-
The little Italian mouse (for those too young to remember him).
-
Maybe I can talk Sandy into going to see Penn and Teller.
-
I understand they do a great show.
-
And they always come out front after the show.
-
THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW was indeed a very special part of TV history.
-
Hey BK, if I go see Penn and Teller should I pass on a "hello" from you.
-
Hey BK, if I go see Penn and Teller should I pass on a "hello" from you.
That would be cool!
-
Hello, everyone.
-
TRAVEL VIBES TO TCB and DF SANDY!
I hope you have a great trip!
-
Hello, Jeanne!
-
Vixmom, how nice that your day turned around. But your client sounds like a real bum.
-
Thank you.
-
Continued health vibes to DR Ron, Elmore, DH Richard, TCB, DF Sandy, and anyone else needing them.
-
Tom, when you bring your scooter do you still need a wheelchair in places or can you take the scooter everywhere?
-
I watched PARIS UNDERGROUND (1945). It's a lovely film that holds up very well. I liked Constance Bennett very much.
-
I was able to get a few things done around the apartment today, which always pleases me. Still LOTS to do. One day I need to borrow some of JRand's ruthless culling energy and go through my books again. I've been in the mood to get rid of more. I hope it lasts until I have the time to do so.
-
Tom, when you bring your scooter do you still need a wheelchair in places or can you take the scooter everywhere?
I can take the scooter anywhere.
-
Vehicle vibes to JRand and John G.
-
I think I need to call it a night.
Good night!
-
So a potentially crummy day turned into a very lovely one

No, I am leaving for the airport in the morning.

TCB, yes absolutely tell them hi for me.
If we go, I will.
